hey guys brian beeler and rick ricotron vanover coming at you from veeam and i've noticed rick you've lost a little weight oh well thank you i did maybe possibly prompt you to the matter but no the year of staying home it lets me have a little bit more control on what i eat and drink and don't drink i've been thinking maybe more like rock instead of rick rock van over that has a nice ring to it i'm too nice so we've got rock van over here and we're uh working on upgrading our vm environment we're on veeam 10 right now we're going to go to 11 what's going on with 11 what are you excited about oh boy we don't have time to fit it in this stream but it is the biggest release we've ever released that's what you say every single time i know isn't it so nice anyways so what do you all right you you brought once i let you have one slide one slide give me the highlights yeah so for the listeners and watchers viewers and you know gather the family this is a big one v11 was released probably almost a month ago i guess and it's biggest release ever five major new capabilities and enhanced capabilities i should say but these are the ones that made the cut out of 200 plus and it's really a four in one solution now backups replication storage snapshot magic and continuous data protection that's the one that has had a lot of interest cdp yet another way to be resilient against ransomware with the linux repository the the cold storages in the cloud new instant recovery with databases file shares and portability to hyper-v as well as some service provider and as a service capabilities so much and i encourage everyone to check out that little short url down there i made a nice little guide for people to get started with v11 so i know you're always interested in ransomware protection we've talked about that in the past you highlight that on your your slide what's the latest there in terms of what people are thinking about or should be thinking about well you know and i use this language yet another way to be resilient against ransomware that's very important it's not like okay it's 20 21 let's tackle the problem it's it's real it's out there our customers are fending ransomware off every day they need many options and the newest capability is the hardened linux repository so any storage system you can have linux on there and you can put backups on there with immutable attributes on the file system so it's there i call it a near line immutability you don't have to go to cloud you don't have to use a special storage engine you can still use those in fact i think you're going to see a lot of organizations get into double immutability whoa that's advanced i think you know i don't want to lose the data i don't think it's it's unheard of in fact one of the other experts that are going to join me here on the screen we did a video where we had the uh korin had done the immutable backups on linux and then using the capacity tier also optionally with immutable immutability in the public cloud right so you know general purpose servers i could see a lot of people taking uh general purpose servers or luns and making that a linux target and you can you can really do a lot of good stuff with that so really versatile stuff so give me an idea too because we use veeam obviously we're backing up in our environment of a couple hundred vms with v10 now we're going to migrate to 11 here in a minute um our target is an exagrid unit so we're getting some some nice uh well resilience and data compression on that thing which is the big story but i think there's a lot of small businesses people in our position too that are thinking about how do i use the cloud to get that next step of data protection to get it off site i know you're a big off-site guy we used to run little hard drives to my uh home and safe in the basement so that's how we were getting a copy off site but we really haven't done a great job or as good of a job as we could because we don't have that much production data in taking that next level off site and i don't know if that's a problem you're seeing with a lot of small businesses where they're where they're not really following those best practices well you know at veeam we've taken that three two one one zero rule very seriously it's your zip code isn't it burnell florida represents that's right um three different copies of data on two different media one of which being off-site that's the base rule throw it a bone and have one copy immutable offline or air gapped and then have zero errors with sure backup recovery verification now the off-site element is important you know fire flood and blood right there that's how that's the justification for the off-site and i have nothing but evidence of bad things happening to good data over at the case studies over at veeam.com right so it's like you have to prepare for that today and i i would almost conflate ransomware and dr sometimes right is a similar type of incident they both require a lot of response authority like everyone has to be in agreement we're declaring a ransomware incident everyone has to be an agreement we're declaring a disaster and how we kind of execute on that right so there's a little bit of a conflation going on but um the offside element is important and i think the public cloud is a great way to start storage replication is a great way to start in fact extra grid is a really good way of moving it around in fact that i'd argue storage systems move data off site better than veeam will i've always said that and i look at what we do with some of the snapshot orchestrations on primary storage snapshots off-site are a good off-site angle as well right and that's the beauty of the three two one one zero rule it is starting to look like a phone number maybe next year yeah i'm sure by next vmon you've added a couple digits to the back end of that i'm a five copy type of guy myself so dear lord i don't think we have anything that is important enough to warrant five copies yeah probably not but the reality is it's so versatile you can get out of any failure scenario with that and it doesn't require any specific technology that's one of the reasons i like it so much all right so what's the plan today we're gonna we're gonna swap out we're gonna bring in kevin and corinne and they're gonna do the the heavy lifting we're just here yeah we're just here right that's right we put the pretty faces forward rock van over and brian that sounds like a great seven actually one of my grade school nicknames was rock sludge of all names it's funny you bring that up but uh i've graduated to ricotron okay so now we're going back to rock so we're going to swap out we're going to do the live upgrade we're going to apply a new license too uh we don't have to believe it or not really i know every time we do this we apply a license our number one or number two most asked question after a major upgrade is how do i get my new license exactly that's what i just said well one of our best innovations that we've been working on is the universal license and it will work for both so it'll be transparent okay so we've got that going on but as we've teased all week as we're doing this work we haven't practiced this we haven't prepared for this aside from throwing it in let's do it all right so we're going to swap out bring in uh bring in the doers here and then we'll uh we'll walk through the process now as we're going if you've got questions send them in the chat we'll be answering all of those and as a reminder we've got uh quite a bit of swag what is this grey thing well that's a travel kit if anybody's into that but i will say we're going to somehow pick three winners and um do we do we see the comments now we have one of our social media experts not here to help us but yes uh what i'm going to have to do is going to be let's just say subjective but defendable i'm going to take the three best comments from the stream and we're going to send one the best one to get a raspberry pi the next best one will get a veeam backpack the next best one will get a shirt i'll need a letter size and then i was told i have to promise five and then the other two will get miscellaneous boxes all right you're on okay so where do we start well we first want to make sure that we have a configuration backup so we're going to go to our drop down menu in the upper left hand corner and look for your configuration backups first of all you want to see which repository that's going to do you know where that repository is at usually i'm pretty sure i know where it is let's go ahead and make sure can you pull that up okay so this is i made sure i saved the password again because i think the last time it was saved was maybe 500 days ago and that's actually not a good idea so that's a whole other conversation if we're going to go that route it's here but we're all we're fine though because veeam is backed up with veeam so if it breaks i'll just recover it or something like that that's the idea yes so the critical thing here is you think you're in the right repository just double check the dates that are within those files making sure the dates reflect the most recent backup files yeah we're great let's head it back over to veeam and take a look at when the last time the backup is processed and you can go and hit that backup now just for a sanity check and that password if you're not sure what that password is you can either add a new password or select one that you do know what it is but since we've already got a password about one day ago i'm sure you know that right yes okay we're eight we'll hit okay and we'll close out of this product there's nothing else that we need to do here but it will still be an in-place update okay so do you have the iso downloaded yes let's go ahead and mount that and you can either hit the big green box on the left hand side for upgrade or the right hand side the top side there to upgrade as well we try to make it really hard to miss i like big green buttons so i'm going to go for this one fun fact the first time that we had that big green button and changed over that format you got to close the app before you do it i thought you closed it i closed one of the windows but it is there's just so many windows open could we have ever rehearsed and still made that mistake of course not but fun fact about us changing that interface to up date the console is we try to make it so big that no one could miss it but we end up getting a ton of calls asking where that button was because it was so big and obvious people missed it looks like it's thinking right now yep it's mounting that point in order to do the update oh notice you're running server 2012 yes not even r2 it's it's pretty old but no this is see r2 adds the uh the little button there we don't have the button let's see if it works well actually config backup is a great way to move it to 2019 okay well i looked at the conf i looked at the compatibility of this it looks like you guys still support even server 2008 uh r2 with uh veeam 11. yes yes we do we don't recommend it but we do okay you've got to work on that chief so this is just letting you know all of the components are going to be updated during this process and of course in the previous screen you signed away your entire life and contracts that you didn't read oh license look at that what is it if you don't have a license you'll go in community but it has a license yes your license in there is good okay look at that go ahead and hit the install button that will get all of your components in the back end up to date so if you're using backup enterprise manager it might be iis types of services just anything to help make it compatible by the way joe brown in the chat says uh that we're looking at and i think he supports the idea of living dangerously joe seems like that kind of guy dangerously is this in youtube it's okay you just have to bring us back to do a configuration restore on a 2016 to 19 server so what is the typical start to finish time on this upgrade process considering there's 200 uh different components getting updated in the background a complete database free config not long usually 10 to 15 minutes at the max for an average install all right right now we're just getting your components up to date since you're running an old server well it's been nice i mean we haven't had to do anything so i guess right now we can click next that's just a warning and restart is required that's okay and i'm pretty sure i know the password now to re-log back into this after reboot not now so okay okay it's after the reboot well there's the reboot how about we switch the feed all right so what are you guys going to do now so we're going to wait for the vm to load back up and while that is loading we'll pop the remote desktop feed again and get that going all right so you'll do that rick we've got a quick question on high level on veeam for we often assume that everyone knows who you are what you're about what what's a a high level for what we're looking at while kevin goes and retrieves that that vm yeah good shout there uh veeam at the highest level is out there in business to be the most trusted provider of backup solutions that deliver cloud data management and backup is the word that matters the most so we're a backup software for on-premises in the cloud hybrid you know we're going into the container space and everything so that's the quick intro yeah the casting thing is uh is pretty cool very cool the containers being all the rage these days what what's your high level view on the container space yeah so in october i think last basically last quarter we made an acquisition in the cloud native app space by acquiring casting and you know a great offering there with casting k10 including a free edition by the way a lot of people are just getting started with kubernetes so uh we are there for them as well all right your vm came back okay so do we load the iso again and yes we do uh in this case there was an update to a service that some things you know when you update windows services need a reboot for them to take effect so once that update is complete we should be able to do the upgrade process now i've been the only one rooting for failure and i think i got a partial win there yeah i got slightly terrified for that totally going to knock you 2012 not even r2 seriously oh so you're going to blame it on heaven huh yeah all right yeah exactly i haven't had to upgrade it why well i think it's time you know because the config backup that thing we checked that is a great way to move to a new platform we talked to a lot of customers that deployed game as a physical server then they wanted virtual or they deployed veeam virtual and then they move it physical or they are going from 2012 to 2019 you can make a new one just import and go straight away now this is just your local user account if you had a database that was a remote from the server and you were updating maybe a console instead of the full installation you might have to worry about those credentials but as long as nothing's changed since we started this update process you should be able to hit just next and same here this is the sql database that's a local instance on your 2012 sql instance go ahead and hit next kevin you're being trolled on your client systems you got any running xp um no but i think i had some old like server 2003 things still chunking around from the vmark days hey i saw a blog yesterday rick on on veeam talking about mac support you guys getting a lot of oddball end end points like that well you know that is also included with the uh v11 the new mac agent so that is supported now to backup mac os agents and that's including remote workers so that's very interesting so yeah sure you know on the go this little device you have here could be backed up as well so a lot of lot of interest right but uh it's it has a couple limitations like it's it's basically a file backup it's not a full image backup so it's very v1 i guess i'll say so while this is running too we've got another question highlight this community edition of veeam before i ask the question what what is the community edition of veeam the community edition of veeam is pretty much what we give back to everyone for free it's up to 10 instances in an infrastructure forever there is no trial basis if you have a small home office configuration you can back up without needing to get a license for the software at all so nick's asking about the lack of support for the for the free version of esxi and it looks like there's some restrictions vmware has around that yeah so free exi doesn't have the api access like a paid version of vmware does alternatively you could use veeam agents for windows mac or linux to backup in-guest machines on that type of environment so you can do it just not agentlessly okay and then if you wanted to monitor that free esxi host veeam one does do monitoring of the host so uh yes but yeah answer nick's being a little salty about that but that's okay we'll move on what do we have going on on the screen here we're going through and updating all of those services that run in the background that make all of the components in being possible from those proxies to the catalog services for the enterprise manager and of course all of those agents in the background that you can deploy out to those machines to do in guest types of backups somebody asked about the price and i can actually honestly say i do not know yeah you just go and cr crank out your own licenses without that's true i can make my own license without care um but the pricing so talk about that then if someone wants to learn more if they play with a community edition they want to explore further in production what is the model it's all channel or what what's the deal yeah so rice you do bring up a good question and you know i i kind of just fully joke a bit but the reality is corrine and i are on the product team right we're focused on the technology and spreading the word we sell the brand and the idea we don't sell the sku that being said sounds very philosophical though it is i've been doing it for 11 years and practicing that but daniel's on the line he might be able to help you out with that by the way hey shout out dan from minnesota thanks for joining us but the uh the real thing is is that we do sell through the channel so you know rice if you purchase from cdw other stuff you know by the way i like how you're saying rice is if that's his actual first name well i'm just using my best guess here all right you know your channel partners can sell veeam to you and one of the recent innovations that we've done it sounds tacky to bring this up but i really want to highlight the versatility of the veeam universal license not only did it make this upgrade easy it also helps the way your environment will change if you have vmware virtual machines and maybe you move them to physical servers or physical to virtual or you know maybe you're moving from one hypervisor to nutanix or to the cloud it's one instance it doesn't matter yeah this is going to go for a bit by the way this is the hard part of the upgrade so we'll come back to this but nothing nothing really smoke and mirror or problems here so we've got another quick question or do you want to go i was going to uh lead up to rick and i have had this giant conversation about you guys even think how easy this upgrade process is right like it's nothing to get this service upgraded well we've even put out something on our community page here by rick on all of the things that you would need to think about before upgrading and we have it up here on the chrome to take a look at a step-by-step video all of these components and things that we went through to check the configuration backup and exactly what to do if something were to mysteriously go wrong yeah i'm going to put that link in the chat here for everyone that's a really good resource what i'm trying to do with that is i've worked reached out to tech support and i'm like hey what do you want to communicate with major releases because we get a lot of like requests from our customers we have like now over 400 000 customers worldwide but we get a lot of questions like how do i upgrade or how do i sort my license so it's like those are silly questions in a sense of things so the universal license helps out with one of the biggest categories there but then this resource that i just dropped again in the chat that's a great site where you know i've got some updates from r d i've talked to tech support about some of the common cases we document how you do the config backup that corrine showed so it's a really good starting point for sure maybe something for v12 to consider something more entertaining than a green line to uh run across the screen what do you think you've got us we're migrating well maybe next time we can migrate you to windows 2019 as part of the process all right did you put that link in the chat i did i think are you sure i didn't see it pop up it's rick brock look for me oh sorry my bad yeah rockatron and so all the different you know one thing i'll highlight you'll see veeam agent for linux redistributable and then the mac and windows will proceed well on the installation one thing that's interesting is that in conjunction with v11 all these other things get upgraded as well the agents plug-ins for enterprise apps and the veeam service provider console and disaster recovery orchestrator all of these things get upgraded kind of in conjunction so it's and there it is the azure plug-in aws plug-ins right so if you're running workloads in the cloud you can um enjoy some of those upgrades as well and no daniel we are not going to be putting in an alien an alien he's one of us too i don't know why he's saying he wants an alien or a v mascot maybe a golden doodle um is this the daniel that i know by the way i don't because maybe maybe it isn't anyway so as it's going through this process then uh what's what's the end result what do we expect if things go well everything to just work okay what just magically happened yep you just saw on the screen about uh two minutes ago the icons already changed and re-initiated the ice so to kind of map to all the things being installed in the background uh the database is being reconfigured to optimize and scale your infrastructure and of course the new mac agents if you guys decide you want to do remote uh machine backup as well and then it i don't know if you caught it corinne but it pulled in the cumulative cumulative patch from march 19th so the post ga situation has been incorporated as well so you're getting the latest and greatest right here perfect so we've already finished the initial install and now we're doing the patch update and it's done it succeeded yeah ah i'm so disappointed oh another boot all right so we're gonna get ready all right we're gonna kick that over yeah all right so we do have a couple more questions uh that have come in a couple from before so one of the things rick that that gets talked about a lot especially for nas we see people using tools like rsync and there was a basic question of what's the difference like why why veeam and not just you know these other tools that are available so for nas that's a great question that was one of the big innovations that came in v10 the big thing about nas backups with heave is that we have a changed file tracking engine which is quite nice and that you can do incremental backups very very quickly so i'm convinced the increments will be much faster so that's one and then the other thing to keep in mind is that this could be a very nice kind of migration tool for nasa's like from this brand to that brand you can actually do that quite easy so you know my thought is we wanted to you know definitely do better than rsync and robocopy with this technologies well but i think i mean you talk about community edition we work with the home lab audience a ton and i think that there's just a certain um appeal to easy to pick up and go kind of tools and i think that a lot of things like veeam community may not even be as well known in some of that uh that that the circles of home libraries that could be taking advantage of these tools that are pretty cool and powerful absolutely and we're always out there to capture the hearts and minds of the it pros and then i would even go so far as to say that if you look at today the home lab is more than just what we thought of a home lab a few years ago you know it could just be all of your windows linux mac pcs i mean there's a great use once yeah and then throw them all to like a synology or whatever type of home nas you know that's something that the community edition can do as well i think i have 11 systems at home that i'm backing up with uh the agent for windows and linux we've got uh someone in the chat jamie declaring uh herself a winner i don't think that's how it works pay that you know what i said it's subjective but defendable is that your wife or who is that it should could be i don't know could be uh we've got uh another question on community um about migrating from community edition to live or paid versions so how does can you do that or do you have to start over no absolutely not so the thing here is that you might remember when when we went through the installer it asked we're going to use this license if there wasn't one we're going to function in community edition mode so the reverse applies if you have an installation community community edition you can inject a license and then expose and unlock all the additional capabilities okay okay that's all i get from that answer okay okay you did okay um talk about instant recovery a little bit there's some question about uh how that works how fast it is yeah good shout joe so instant recovery is a technology that being pioneered in 2010 in a version five that's actually one of the technologies that made me come to me in 2010 i thought this is cool it reverses the paradigm instead of waiting for the data to come back and then make it usable we actually make it usable from the backup storage and in the background move it back to production and over the years that was initially launched with vmware environments then hyper-v was added and now with this massive update it was also expanded to include enterprise apps like oracle and sql as well as instant file share publishes think of that like your hardware of your file share is hard dead down you can instantly publish that file share and then have a read-only copy if you need that data likewise if you have any image-based backup you can instantly recover it as a hyper-v virtual machine even on windows 10 which is rather awesome in my opinion so it's a really versatile technology and you know joe you're unlocking the interest of many things here because it also applies to cloud workloads so azure and aws backups as well as google compute cloud backups you can copy those on-premises and this is crazy talk but you can actually boot those up instantly as a hyper-v vmware virtual machine i think that's awesome all right so while rick has been handling some q a kevin is your your old vm has come back after a little bit of uh delay dos boot yes it wanted to do a uh finalizing task well before it shut down states while we're at look you get that r2 upgrade finally no not yet so while we it was a another near failure that would have been self-inflicted from uh running server 12. uh but it looks like what now what's going on right now if the service has started up already usually it takes like 30 or 60 seconds though it takes about 90 seconds because the service is on a delayed start if sql's on this server sql has to boot up first in order for us to initialize the database where this reads all of its data yeah so we're probably going to get a failure to log in initially and then failure governor question on resource utilization how much weight does veeam put on the hypervisor and how does it compare with the services of you know vmware esxi so really good question so the short answer is it's it's very well documented but the react the real answer is you can actually even deploy the veeam infrastructure on physical components and have zero touch so it's agentless for backup for cdp there are modules that get installed on the host so there is a little bit of touch there and then for the cdp capability the biggest kind of post ga question we are getting is how do i put it in there right so again the requirements are a good place to start helpcenter.veeam.com has everything you need to answer those questions okay all right so the service isn't ready yet okay so well if we click a lot of times it'll eventually come up well we just got to wait those 90 seconds okay that's kevin's approach you just click until it works it's like it's city on all flash let's have it come up as fast as you can but it's not it's not an i o thing it's the service is on delay because we want all dependencies you know not everybody's running on all flash yeah imagine that even some of my backups are all flash show off okay so these it cannot update the components on uh these particular servers do not live at this current uh state so so it should time out and that would be expected is that what you're saying yes okay so it's not an error i can't count that one but but they may come back is that a fair assessment yeah like every time i open up females say like hey i really want to update those no those individual ips those components stop the upgrade you that'll just stop the push to those things that are there that's what that is are those just servers that are off what would those be uh those are servers that are no longer in the lab but we have backup jobs and restoration points for those so we can't really remove them until we remove those backups but well we can remove the backups and one of the new things about v11 is we have a new way to track what i would call imported backup so if they sit on your disk like your repositories we'll have a new way of visualizing that so this will time out because those aren't there but in my opinion this upgrade has gone well minus a few observations surfer 2012 observations face release it still works well the funny thing is i'll tell you this might be the last major upgrade you'll get the 2012 base release you might want to upgrade to 2019 or something like that but uh um i can tell you right away we're looking pretty good so while we're here what is there anything that you want to point out that stands out so first of all are we declaring this as a success let's run a backup job and then let's see if it starts and doesn't immediately okay how about that so you want to i gave you the out to say this was a success i want to put me on this i want to redeem those half failures so um the one thing and while this launches here kevin um one thing i'll highlight is right away at the top of the screen you saw the cdp policy so we could configure that if we wanted to but um yeah we're going we're calling vmware to make some snapshots we're looking pretty good if you ask me um tell you what while that starts why don't you jump out of there and then just go look at that cdp policy or pass me the mouse up so while we're doing this if anyone else has questions or comments or while rick's driving through our infrastructure um if you've got any any other thoughts or questions about what veeam is how it works uh go ahead and put him in the chat and we'll hit is all of them probably or as many as we can i'm not going to do this uh in the in the kind of invasive form right now this is a look at some of the vms and some of the storage review lab resources the host infrastructure like if i wanted to i could take these hosts and start like adding the the filter to them you know that type of stuff like an instagram filter no like the uh the uh cdp filters right so those cdp filters you know those are going to be a property there it is right there um it's a property of these cdp i have to deploy these on the cluster right so this is the cluster probably i actually haven't ever done this on the ga build so i don't exactly know what i'm doing but over on my upgrade center i do have the information on how to do it but for those of you who want to do cdp you're going to see this right away so brian real quickly go back to that tab if you don't mind you told me no more slides well i'm not saying slides but on the upgrade center which is actually not how you use a computer but down here the cdp requirements when i one one thing i want to highlight real quickly this is that link i was putting out there um the cdp requirements that's one of those things that people are asking the most about so where can i find that see kevin you're getting trolled again for uh sent us four vms in the uh in the infrastructure anyways you have some old cenos ones in there all of this lots in this in this page here uh cdp proxies this is the one i was looking for for those of you clicking in there on this page you can get some information about that so maybe let's switch the stream back to the backup job and this is what i want to see so uh guess what the only red in there is good red yeah good red uh kevin you're being asked to upgrade to r2 live on this uh on this machine not at this current venture i'd probably just blow away the vm and uh move that configuration back up onto a new uh session so this is the right dan uh dan from minnesota drops in the va io filter which is what we're using for cdp quote is applied on a per v disk basis applying that filter if the host policy does not impact vms which are not in a cdp policy one thing i'll highlight for the listeners i gotta i got can i drop a little exclusive that nobody knows yet sure it's not even on the website but monday we're going to launch the website for vmon vmon.com we're going to have to do it virtual just one last time okay and we're going to have a 75 minute workshop end-to-end configuration of cdp from deploying the filters to making a policy failover fail back very specific things so i'll give these listeners a highlight i just got approval of that on wednesday and uh if those of you who are listening and watching are interested in cdp we've got a really exclusive thing coming for you at piedmont cool i think your job's gonna work yeah it's everything's smooth and working the way it should the three of you continue to disappoint me yes congratulations again right um so dan was also talking about uh restorative cloud function we've talked a little bit about the cloud as when we started but for anyone that joined in i think it's important so i want to hit it again when you think about cloud as part of the dr strategy just what does that mean rick from the veeam perspective well i think first of all i want to level set cloud doesn't have to be something that starts with an a or a g um cloud is the model starts with a c azure aws or google oh oh yeah cisco i mean cloud cisco starts to see i actually have a very funny cisco story if we want to tell this real funny cisco like it's i love cisco but it's a funny story but anyways um it's more about the model of elasticity you know self-service and dynamic consumption that's what i mean by that but yeah it doesn't have to be on-premises or it doesn't have to only be in the hyperscale public cloud we have a huge network of service providers the cloud story is really any way you want it that's what i'm trying to say that's solid um we've got the backup what's it doing there kevin well actually it's it's it's finishing yeah it's finishing it's working i can hear your disappointment i really i don't know why i think it was rick's confidence in the ease of the upgrade process that made me want to have it not work so much but what were some possibilities when the you said a few traps and i mean it could have broken in the live stream but not necessarily the vm would have broken just the live stream of it and we'll just have you pull up a 2016 or 2019 server and go properly so we kicked over the server a couple times the last one it took a little while to come back because it was doing some other nonsense but to my dismay and sad satisfaction i suppose the the upgrade to 11 work the licensing bit is is dead simple that's a nice touch it is i think it just makes it easier because i mean we're not quite in a model for backup and replication to be this like mobile app cadence that just slip streams in you know there's a lot of qa that goes into this release you know all the different modules and stuff but we're doing what we can to make the product simple to use flexible and yet reliable because already we're doing our backups and so what's i mean i know you guys are so excited about eleven it's not just launched but it's it's fresh what are you guys thinking about for what's next like what do you have to do to keep innovating well you know there's this there's this yin yang in this balance across the products and so through the summer you know you're going to see what i like to call the act 2 products each take some hits you know like updates so like our office 365 product which grin specializes in the cloud native backup products so azure aws and google those are going to progress as well the cast and product is scheming as well for a major upgrade aligned to kubicon in may so you know we're going to see things progress and we'll also see where possible and ready maybe capabilities get injected into backup and replication so it's going to be a very predictable behavior uh i've been talking with the product teams you know there's there's no break right well no it's continuous development right yeah so it rotates through there's readiness and qa that go into it and a lot of times i equate it especially the busy part of the qa cycle which is like the end of the year uh it's like a runway you know one plane at a time so one product goes through at a time you know and it just gets busy at the time and we have a couple storage arrays that are going to pop up with integrations as well did this guy finish it did that's a success not even a warning all right that's not so bad and actually just to compare it to last time corrine what's the run time the last time it ran what's that time right there 18 minutes and then this time was seven so it actually went quicker your incremental backup went quicker with v11 so am i did i redeem my little half points or reboots no i don't care how long backups take the last time it ran though so the last time it ran uh i forgot that the vm had been shut down for about a week and a half it was a big increment okay all right i was hoping nobody would think that through yeah well you know we run a very much a lab here and so you know for those that don't know in the room next to us we've got seven racks we've got a stow away from hp nimble in there too but uh lots of gear but it's always changing always being torn down torn torn up built up torn down something like refactored refactor that sounds like a slimy marketing term um but it's uh it's always in flux so we're always changing things and kevin's off and breaking things and that's why those what four vms don't show up in the uh it's a tight ship you can see holes through completely as if cannonballs had passed by uh but uh anyway the v olymp 11 upgrade worked um yet again it was seamless you guys all saw it live uh good stuff rick no i'm gonna i'm gonna politely creep the comments okay and i'm gonna identify five winners um i have a raspberry pi that i'll uh reach out to you get a shipping address we got maybe somebody throw me the backpack i'll hold that up that's actually the pretty cool one backpack yeah we got the backpack so bean bag pack easy door the explorer yeah and we've got um you were thinking it i just said it yeah we've got a shirt i've got you know i'm gonna send you what i can for the five winners yeah so we've got a bunch of goodies rick's gonna handle the shipping yeah i'll take care of that of all of this stuff and you know for the big winners i'll throw in some other little things too hey i'm gonna help out i'll toss in the free version of community edition no comment all right thanks for tuning
