[Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] uh so um um may i never boast except in the cross of our lord jesus christ through which the world has been crucified to me and die to the world in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen the lord be with you r today we celebrate the franciscan feast of the stigmatization of our holy father saint francis brethren let us acknowledge our sins and so prepare ourselves to celebrate the sacred mysteries you were sent to heal the contrite of heart lord have mercy you came to call sinners christ have mercy christ says you are seated at the right hand of the father to intercede for us lord have mercy lord mercy may almighty god have mercy on us forgive us our sins and bring us to everlasting life amen glory to god in the highest and on earth peace to the people of good will we praise you we bless you we adore you we glorify you we give you thanks for your great glory lord god heavenly king o god almighty father lord jesus christ the only begotten son lord god lamb of god son of the father you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us you take away the sins of the world receive our prayer you are seated at the right hand of the father have mercy on us for you alone are the holy one you alone are the lord you alone are the most high jesus christ with the holy spirit in the glory of god the father amen let us pray almighty god you renewed the marks of the sufferings of your son in the body of our holy father francis in order to inflame our hearts with the fire of your love through his prayers may we be made conformable to the death of your son and thus share also in his resurrection through our lord jesus christ your son who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the holy spirit god forever and ever a reading from the letter of saint paul to the galatians may i never boast except in the cross of our lord jesus christ through which the world has been crucified to me and i to the world for neither does circumcision mean anything nor does uncircumcision but only a new creation peace and mercy be to all who follow this rule and to the israel of god from now on let no one make troubles for me for i bear the marks of jesus on my body the grace of our lord jesus christ be with your spirit brothers amen the word of the lord amen i have been crucified with christ [Music] man is justified through faith in jesus christ we believe in jesus christ that we might be justified by faith in christ christ loved me and gave himself for me christ will be glorified in my body whether through life or through death of god in christ to me life means christ dying is so much gain the life i live now is not my own christ is living in me i am i have been crucified with christ yet i live no longer i but christ lives in me the lord be with you and with your spirit a reading from the holy gospel according to luke glory to you [Music] jesus said to all if anyone wishes to come after me he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me for whoever wishes to save his life will lose it but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it what profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself whoever is ashamed of me and of my words the son of man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the father and of the holy angels the gospel of the lord i praise you lord jesus christ praise be jesus and mary [Music] today we celebrate this feast of the stigmata of saint francis and it follows up well with the feasts we've celebrated earlier this week the feast of the exaltation of the holy cross and then of our lady of sorrows and so here we are with saint francis special and particular participation in the mystery of the cross of christ and remember on our lady's feast day our lady of sorrows i mentioned that quote from padre pio that those whom god loves more he permits a greater participation in the passion of his son and so that was really evident with our lady of sorrows and it's also evident in today's feast of the stigmatization of saint francis because certainly saint francis was one of god's favorites in fact our lord revealed this to which saying saint margaret mary alicoak when he appeared to her and said behold the saint who is closest to my sacred heart and there appeared alongside of our lord saint francis and so saint francis is closest to the sacred heart of jesus and therefore it makes sense that he will also participate more closely in his passion so saint francis endured various trials in his life in his spiritual journey i think it was about 10 years that he endured what are called the passive purifications all right where god sent him various trials aridity confusion doubts these type of things for 10 years but saint francis desired even more now compare that to most of us right most of us mere mortals were on the level of where we pray for relief from our crosses right and and from our sufferings and hardships the more devout may at least manage to be okay with them and to bear them well and relatively patiently now when you get to the level of the great saints like saint francis there's actually a desire for the cross and saint louis de montfort also comes to mind where he prayed for crosses and difficulties and he wrote a letter to his sister who was a nun and asked her to pray that the lord sent him crosses and difficulties and so saint francis during this time of the year was on mount laverna this was a place where the friars would go for retreat to get away pray in solitude [Music] and he was there doing his 40-day fast in honor saint michael feast is coming up on september 29th and of course the feast of the exaltation of the cross occurs during that time as well just a few days ago so saint francis is there doing a 40-day fast and with this great desire to experience at least in some small way what our lord suffered for love of us and that's when our lord appeared to him in the form of a seraphim he had six wings also in the form of the crucified bearing his wounds and then impressed his wounds on the flesh of saint francis so it was painful right let's not think that uh that this didn't hurt right so this was two years before the death of saint francis on today's date september 17th and um so there we go he had the desire and his desire was granted and so for the last two years of his life he had those bloody wounds which were painful and uh which were an outward sign of the inward crucifixion and conformity to christ that saint francis had and so let's ask uh saint francis on this feast day or our own spiritual growth okay greater willingness at least you know let's make another step in the love of christ in in conformity to christ in bearing our own crosses with greater patience and with greater love for god and for souls in the name of the father and of the son and of the holy spirit amen blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness you have received the bread we offer you fruit of the earth and work of human hands it will become for us the bread of life blessed be god so [Applause] blessed are you lord god of all creation for through your goodness we have received the wine we offer you fruit of the vine and work of human hands it will become our spiritual drink um so pray brethren that my sacrifice and yours may be acceptable to god the almighty father praise the lord lord may the humble and devout prayer of saint francis sustain us through his this offering may we always experience within us the saving benefit of the sufferings of your son through christ our lord amen the lord be with you r lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for in the marvelous confession of your saints you make your church fruitful with strength ever new and offer us sure signs of your love and that your saving mysteries may be fulfilled their great example lends us courage their fervent prayers sustain us in all we do and so lord with all the angels and saints we too give you thanks as an exaltation we acclaim holy holy holy lord god of hosts heaven and earth are full of your glory o son in the highest blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord to you therefore most merciful father we make humble prayer in petition through jesus christ your son our lord that you accept and bless these gifts these offerings these holy and unblemished sacrifices which we offer you firstly for your holy catholic church be pleased to grant her peace to guard unite and govern her throughout the whole world together with your servant francis our pope and charles our bishop and all those who holding to the truth and on the catholic and apostolic faith remember lord your servants and all gathered here whose faith and devotion are known to you for them we offer you this sacrifice of praise for they offer it for themselves and all who are dear to them for the redemption of their souls and hope of health and well-being and paying their homage to you the eternal god living and true in communion with those whose memory we venerate especially the glorious ever virgin mary mother of our god and lord jesus christ and blessed joseph her spouse your blessed apostles and martyrs peter and paul andrew and all your saints we ask that through their merits and prayers and all things we may be defended by your protecting help through christ our lord amen therefore lord we pray graciously accept this oblation of our service that of your whole family order our days and your peace and command that we be delivered from eternal damnation and count and among the flock of those you have chosen be pleased oh god we pray to bless acknowledge and approve this offering in every respect make it spiritual and acceptable that it may become for us the body and blood of your most beloved son our lord jesus christ on the day before he was to suffer he took bread in his holy and venerable hands and with eyes raised to heaven you o god his almighty father giving you thanks he said the blessing broke the bread and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you indeed of it for this is my body which will be given up for you [Music] [Applause] in a similar way when supper was ended he took this precious chalice in his holy and venerable hands and once more giving you thanks he said the blessing and gave the chalice to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it for this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] [Applause] so the mystery of faith save us savior of the world require your cross resurrection hear us set us free therefore o lord as we celebrate the memorial of the blessed passion the resurrection from the dead and the glorious ascension into heaven of christ your son our lord we your servants and your holy people offer to your glorious majesty from the gifts that you have given us this pure victim this holy victim this spotless victim the holy bread of eternal life and the chalice of everlasting salvation be pleased to look upon these offerings with a serene and kindly countenance and to accept them as ones who were pleased to accept the gifts of your servant abel the just the sacrifice of abraham our father in faith in the offering of your high priest melchizedek a holy sacrifice a spotless victim in humble prayer we ask you almighty god command that these gifts be borne by the hands of your holy angel to your all drawn high in the sight of your divine majesty said all of us who through this participation at the altar receive the most holy body and blood of your son may be filled with every grace and heavenly blessing through christ our lord amen remember also lord your servants who have gone before us with a sign of faith and rest in the sleep of peace grant them o lord we pray and all who sleep in christ a place of refreshment light and peace to us also your servants through those sinners hope in your abundant mercies graciously grant some share and fellowship with your holy apostles and martyrs with john the baptist even matthias barnabas and all your saints admit us to besiege you into their company not weighing our merits but granting us your pardon through christ our lord through whom you continue to make all these good things o lord you sanctify them fill them with life bless them and bestow them upon us through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever and ever at the savior's command and borne by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our days that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ [Music] lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not in our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen peace of the lord be with you always [Music] have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world have mercy on us lamb of god you take away the sins of the world grant us peace so so behold the lamb of god behold him who takes away the sins of the world blessed are those called to the supper of the lamb lord i am not worthy that you should enter under my roof but only say the word and my soul shall be healed if anyone wishes to come after me he must renounce
