hi guys good afternoon happy monday happy first monday of spring that is that is where it's all about um i don't know where you are tuning in from but if you'd like to make a comment here to say hello and where you're from that would be wonderful but no matter where you're from yesterday was the very first day of spring which happens to be one of my most favorite days of the year because it means that things are changing the seasons are on there we're on our axis we're we're swirling and twirling out here in outer space um on planet earth and we are rocketing to a new season which is spring and i gotta say all of us here have endured change a lot of change this past year with covet and with self quarantine and social distancing and everything fun in person that we enjoy being cut out um but one change that i'm sure we are all very super happy to welcome to our lives is the change of the season so welcome spring 2021 thank you for for showing up um and today i am live here on the jesse james page my name is sarah james and i will be sharing with you a diy sun catcher tutorial so jesse james beads is part of the mojo bead group if you have not yet joined mojo2 mojo m-o-j-o and the number two that stands for makers of jewelry and other stuff if you have not yet joined this group on facebook please do um and what we all us vendors involved are doing this month is creating a craft project rather than jewelry we're going craft with all of the different brands that are involved in mojo so you've got beads from jesse james you've got stones from dakota stones there's findings from beagle on we have metal components from tierracast leather from leathercord usa and stamps from impresar so what we are going to get into today is a multi-faceted sun catcher project i've got all kinds of tools and supplies here on my desk um and we're just gonna get our hands dirty and play around with some sparkle and some fun i've got some basic stamping to share with you guys like super easy super easy stuff um and a little bit of stringing layout and design we will do some crimping and just some basics some basic skills some fun and easy stuff focusing on design and just having fun so i have this project mapped out let me flip my camera around oh hi guys hi trisha hi deborah hey sandra that's sandra lupo on here nice to see you hi anne from central michigan oh my gosh lucinette from beaver pennsylvania hey girl hi leah hi sandra hi janet hi guys thanks for joining today if you wouldn't mind giving this video a share we at jesse james and myself personal would be very happy um for that if you would oblige us in that request and i'm gonna flip this camera around i've got a picture in front of me that i sketched out earlier this afternoon of where we're going with this project and um let's just get the beads out of the map and see see where it takes us just some fun afternoon monday crafting all right cool hi heather from alex from allen texas sylvia from rainy omaha hey stephanie hey girl all right i'm flipping it around hi filamento from boston you guys are coming in from all over the map i love it all right so this is what we're working with on the table i've got some beads i've got my tools um impress art stuff is over here and then this is this is our course of action alrighty so what we've got here on the bottom is our big sparkly this is like get ready for this one guys big sparkly sun catcher component right and this is at the jessejamesbeads.com shop i know it is large and in charge very heavy um and do you know what i'm realizing i don't have right here is stringing wire um anyway so what we're gonna do is attach the big big thing wanda i'm laughing at your comment get it girl she's talking about the sign on my desk right there okay we're gonna attach the sun catcher part first and use some stringing wire to string some beads a combination of a jesse james beads feature bead strands featuring dakota stones and some jjb glass then here this is a component from impress art we're gonna hole punch the bottom of it and then attach it all together create some little dangles using tierracast bits and bobbles and then tie it all together with some leather cord to be able to hang it in our window or what have you okay so like i said i have um i have not made this exact project so it is a bit of a wing it design on the fly but we have a we have some clear direction of where we're going alrighty i think it's helpful to sketch out your designs to just give your mind a little bit of a road map and then there's no rules we can break apart from this it doesn't have to be this way and that is the beauty of creating and jewelry baking alrighty so we have got here let me just lay out the mat and let me get the beads that we're going to be working with out so this is um it's the crystal sun catcher i don't have the size of this on hand but you can just tell that it is very very big and if you like rainbows um and sunshine then this piece is definitely one for you okay so we got the sun catcher piece i've got two glass jessie james strands but i really feel that we're i think i'm just gonna go with this one and then this is a jesse jam strand featuring dakota stones which has this deliciously ever so effervescently yellow butter jasper matte round beads these guys are awesome they're some of my favorites kayla from dakota stones introduced me to this particular stone at beat button wow it must have been like two years ago now coming up on and i'm so happy to have it in one of our brand new strand that features dakota so okay we got this and that then also a new little bead set our metal mix sparkle and standout and antique silver this is our tierracast component of this set of this project um what else got leather cord to go up top i've got my beetle on tools some findings oh and of course the impress art stuff so here is that um that moon component that is going to be the centerpiece of our dangling suncatcher and this suncatcher project i have dubbed live by the sun and love by the moon okay so i just need to grab some stringing wire i'm hoping there's some in my desk right right over here on the other side of the office just sit tight got it heck yeah this is going to be a mixed metal project which if you follow jesse james beads you know that we are super into mixing our metals sometimes it's fun to keep it all the same but sometimes it's fun to spice it up a wee bit all right so my first portion of this is going to be the string the big fat chandelier pendant sun catcher component to the wire and the reason why i'm going to start at the bottom of this piece of the stringing portion is because this this sucker is so heavy it's a lot easier to do your first crimp with this dangling rather than it be the second crimp on your stretch of string i have chosen to use betalon's 49 string wire 49 string if you're familiar has got 49 individual teeny tiny little wires wrapped up in this nylon piece which is like really mind-blowing to me that there's 49 pieces in there but that is um that's what they tell us and i believe them beetle i wouldn't tell a lie and see the reason that i have chosen the 49 strand is because it's very strong it's not as flexible as some of their other wires but it's super duper duper strong and that's what we're going to need to hold onto this piece i was in san francisco a couple years ago and walked across the golden gate bridge and um right at the base of it there's like i don't know i don't want to call it a museum exactly but there's like some information and they have a portion of the cables that hold up that suspension bridge they have a portion of that cable like cut in half so you can see like what the inside of the cable looks like and it was wild because it was it is it is just like this 49 strand wire it's all these teeny tiny wires well they're not teeny tiny for the bridge but smaller wires that are wrapped up inside a big metal casing and that's what gives that's what gives that bridge its strength and a good thing too because it carries i mean it's a bridge nobody wants nobody nobody needs their london bridges falling down all right so i'm getting out some crimp beads now these are number two size number two size works well with the 49 strand wire i'll just pour these out into a little dish here okay so now as you notice or maybe you didn't but i kept the wire on the spool for now and we're just gonna string one end of the oh no i guess we're gonna have to cut that right away never mind so sorry we do need to clip this wire i do not have this wire measured out right now of how much you're going to need but i can get that for you later to post onto the blog so you guys have the measured bits okay so now i strung this through here through the component sticking the crimp tube on one end and then back up through like this okay yeah barbara everything seems to be smooth here with the video i think someone suggested to pop back out and pop back in sometimes facebook can be funny or your own personal internet connection can cause some troubles okay so i just pulled both of these pieces through it's not too tight can wiggle around a little bit and here comes the crimp so crimping is a two-step process there's two divots in your crimp tool the first one here makes like a little macaroni shape can you see that that's crimp number one and then the second step rolls the macaroni over itself so let me just give it okay okay just gonna give it a little squeeze to make step one okay see that it's not perfect but it'll do okay and then you just turn this piece onto its side take your crimp and squeeze again and there you have it okay so now we are ready to string the first portion of our design i am going to bring this down in front of me rather than up against the wall so i have my road map plan of action okie dokie so i got these two strands and i thought why don't we just take them off of the string that they come on here and do a little bit of string ink one of the things that jesse james beads that we love to do that we are known for is for not only having really beautiful beads but for not only having beautiful bees but putting them in these really beautiful patterns and if you are feeling like just fast and furious jewelry these seven inch strands string up into stretch bracelets very nicely but if you're feeling a little more creative there is an even number of beads except for the center piece to be able to design symmetrically if that's your thing so i'm going to start with the dakota strand and just take out this middle portion and i want to just get like hmm i really love this sparkly one okay and gosh this is tough i kind of like this sparkly one too maybe just to like replace that there and then i might take this one out and put this one in instead all right i think we'll start there and i love how dakota stones has these really beautiful large hold stones so this is perfect for sliding down over this crimp bead crimp tube excuse me because check it out it's gonna just cover up that crimp and sit perfectly on top of our sun catcher crystal okay all right so now it's like that now's the time i just have fun with it right there's no right or wrong way to string up beads and i'm just gonna pick up the ones that feel right to me i love like i honestly love all the beads in both of these strands so it's kind of hard to make a decision and say like oh you're cut oh you get to stay and if i did all of them it would be too long because the glass jesse james glass strand is seven inches and the dakota stones the jesse james dakota stone strand is five inches i mean not to say that it would be too long it's you're a sun catcher you can make your sun catcher as long as you want i feel like even if you didn't have the large crystal just to string some of these super sparkly glass beads and have them hanging in your window for the spring and summer time looks so pretty come on now is it gonna go through okay perhaps this is where i'm gonna just trim that wire tail there we go oh kidokey i don't think i like that one i'm gonna go with this green stone bead instead yes yes yes yes so you guys getting excited for springtime it has been like i don't know like the sun comes out and it just feels like nothing but good vibes like the spring season is coming at the perfect time i think we're all ready for some sun and light longer days warmer days and i don't dislike winter i definitely don't dislike winter but man crank up the sunshine and the heat any day for me please okay cool so i think i'm gonna end my pattern here okay and lucinette says vitamin d right like it's good for our bodies it's good for our souls crank up the volume on the vitamin d trisha says the sun is giving her life girl i know it i know it like even just the workplace today everything just feels revived to come into the office i am in bethlehem today but to come into the office and drive here and have the sun be just beaming through the windshield ugh okay so this is where i'm stopping on the first half i'm going to end here this piece is going to connect to our moon component that will be stamping a little bit so i'm taking one of these bead stoppers you guys have these these bead stoppers are the bomb i kind of forgot about them for a while and you just they clip like this i look almost like little wings of a bug and i'm just gonna put it right there so everything stays put um and now i want to do the top portion okay i'm gonna follow the same pattern that you absolutely do not have to debbie i know all about that debbie is from florida and she is saying that you get very tired of the heat in florida okay so the very first jessejamesbeads.com warehouse was in pompano beach florida i lived in fort lauderdale for three years and when we first decided that we were going to sell beads retail on the internet um was when i was down there so found a little 900 square foot warehouse like 900 square foot hot box warehouse we couldn't work during regular business hours in the summer time we'd come in from 7 to 11 in the morning go home and then come back in the evening because it was so darn hot 900 square feet okay here i'm doing that pinch again i think you can see the crimp a little bit better this time see how there's two divots so we're just gonna make our macaroni first important to keep your beads whoopsies sorry about that it's important to keep the wire separated going into the crimp tube okay so you're going to create like two channels essentially put it into the macaroni spot turn your crimp tube into pasta and then flip it around and like someone else had just said in the comments i'm so sorry your name went by quickly give your crimp a little and kiss your macaroni and together okay it makes a little tube oopsies yeah so the first warehouse first jessejamesbeads.com warehouse was in pompano beach and it was we had no air conditioning and no windows it had a singular vent we had some rubber beads like this we had some rubber coated beads that melted one year like okay time to move back to pennsylvania the beads are melting so funny okay and now we do all of our production and our order pulling from oh little town of bethlehem pennsylvania whoopsies uh oh where'd my bead go oh please it's on the floor we have a runaway okay i said i was gonna do the top the same as the bottom and i'm totally changing my mind on that but yeah jesse james beads is a family business we are based out of bethlehem pennsylvania but because we're online we also have a couple remote locations right now i am in the bethlehem office and it is so awesome we have a really great team primarily women run business who run the world girls who run the world girls and it's national women's month i feel like every month is national women's month around these parts because we are a female run operation but isn't stringing just so so relaxing such a meditational aspect to putting beads on a string and just taking your time to choose which ones you want feels good i'm so digging these glass beads i almost wish i almost wish i put more of them on hmm maybe let me see what this is looking like here i think i'm gonna switch this one out and put this guy here nope i can't do it i gotta do this in my trade all right nice try sarah to do something unsymmetrical and i know that there's got to be you you got to tell me tell me if if you've had a moment like that like i just had right there where you try to sit where you tried do something asymmetrical and then like as soon as you put it out on your string like oh no abort abort i can't do it cool oopsies yeah i love i just love these glass beads so much we brought on this strand last year and i uh we keep replenishing it and it's amazing it's like the glass on it like just check it out look at these glass beads that i have left over so pretty so so pretty okay jody says ocd i don't think so i is that an ocd tendency to not be able to do something asymmetrical ah maybe i'm just afraid of failure in front of the camera today i don't know i'll try something asymmetrical eventually i'm sure okay again i'm gonna get out one of these stopper beads okay so now we have this top and the bottom of our sun catcher who is ready to hammer it out with some impress art stuff me all of us vendors in the mojo beach show um that have gotten that have been playing with each other's products so like i said mojo is made out of made up of six brands it's dakota stones um dakota stones tierracast leather cord beadalon impress art and ourselves jesse james beads and all of these um the design team from these different brands when they received the box of impress art stuff to play with because we all sent each other products from our companies to work with for this event we all were like yes the stamping is so awesome because it's like it just feels really fun to hammer something and we are gonna do that right now so let me just move this all to the side okay um so my friend rita a leather cord leather cord cheese voice that's michelle at leathercord my friend rita at impresar sent me this big box of stuff to play with and i just want to share this really cool tool kit with you guys let me just i'm going to take the tape off off camera so i don't actually cut myself all right so this is something that impress art sells and if you are not a hand if you're not a stamper yet this is really good i'm not sure if they can retail on their website and we definitely do not carry this at jesse james but you can get this box um you can get it somewhere on the internet it's called the essential hand stamping kit and it's got like literally everything you need to get going with stamping so i need for this the hammer and the large stamping block and i'm also going to grab some of this tape okay do we have a link from impresary i don't lucy i don't but you know what we can um we'll work on that for you i really think if you just search hand stamping kit the essential hand stamping kit from impresso you'll find it all the other supplies actually what am i saying like they have the hand stamping kit um this whole kit you can get from impresser but if you want just the block and the hammer which is what we're gonna use right here if you want just the block and the hammer we have that at the jessie james shop danielle can you make sure the impress art block and hammer bundle is added to the blog okay danielle's got a supply list down here for you in the event that you want to make some sunny goodness of your own just put that sun catcher right there okay so block it's like it's all greased up a little bit i'm not sure if you're supposed to wipe that off or not definitely hold on okay it just had a little oil on it so i just wiped it a teeny tiny bit there and what we have here is our tape this is going to hold our piece in place and i have these little moon shapes that i thought were really really cute now one if you are new with hammering the letters can be tricky though like putting the letters that definitely take some practice i watch rita panula do her letters from impress ours like damn girl you have got some skills but she's been stamping for a long time that rita she has been stamping for a long time so practice makes perfect but one of the really fun things you can do is add a little texture ah sarah says that that oil keeps your block from rusting and the stamps usually have it too that is great to know i figured it was the oil was meant to be there i'm just like wasn't sure if i was supposed to wipe it off okay so now i'm just cutting some of the tape here sorry i was doing that behind camera and i am going to just tape the tiniest little edge here just to keep her in place okay and now with the hammer they are just going to add a little bit of texture i like to do the texture around the edges because i think it makes it look like like it gives the moon like shading like as if you were drawing a picture and you would do a little bit of shading on the edges and i'm taking it around the other side also hitting my i'm using my hammer in the angle of the moon's curve as if you were using your brush brush strokes of a paintbrush to give dimension on a 2d surface that's the same whoopsies it's coming down a little bit here there we go just using the very very edge of the hammer just give a little bit of texture a little a couple little moon pocks oh my gosh i'm so sorry are you guys okay sorry i just knocked the knock the tripod over sorry about that give me like two seconds here oops we can add that to the blooper reel okay anna's saying have you ever used a hammer that has different patterns on it i have not i have not but yes they do make hammers with all different patterns on them i actually i have this bracelet that i wear all the time that's got this really amazing like tiny little ball hammered look to it like there's a lot that you could do when it comes to when it comes to texturizing all right now i want to give both sides of this moon texture because it's just we are making a sun catcher and sun catchers twist around in the sun flip them over the jesse james blooper reel danielle you're hilarious gosh all right i just heard my mom in the other room karen james is my mom our company co-owner and she goes what the heck is that noise she doesn't know this live is going on right now apparently come on all right cool that'll do it so this is where we ended up just a little bit of texture to give that moon some depth and another item that you could do if you wanted to take this one step further impress art has these really cool markers we have them at the jesse james beads shop too that you apply into these divots and then wipe away and it gives it a very antiqued metal look okay so my plan for this guy right here is we've got one hole up top this is gonna hold the top string of the sun catcher now we're gonna put three more holes on the bottom to attach the bottom portion of the suncatcher and also some dangly parts okay so alrighty here is the two hole punch makes two different sizes these are the actual size it's gonna make what do you think this feels like 1 16 inch to me sorry again okay now i believe what we're gonna just do here is unscrew this marika that crystal drop is from jessejamsbeads.com and i'm sure we can get a link dropped here for you actually all the supplies are on the bottom if you want to go there and get and see all the products that are being used in this one but you can certainly just grab that crystal ball as well okay so this is the hole punch that we're gonna use to make the three holes in this moon guy but before we go and do that i'm gonna mark where i want the holes to be i think that's gonna make i think that's gonna make life easier and i am totally just eyeballing this okay and i think that that is perfectly fine okay so now i'm going to line up set this down okay i'll line up my first hole my first little dot that i drew on there it's kind of difficult to see i used a silver i used a silver sharpie marker but there's my three little dots of where i want to poke holes in so dot number one on the very end all right it's held in place now i'm just gonna twist twist oopsies that it did we do it was it easy as that nice sweet check it out cool so now we've got a dot on the top a dot on the bottom and honestly you could just like we could just take it from there but we're gonna go one step further two steps further and make two more drill dots very technical term okay i'm coming around the camera from the other side i don't want to accidentally whack it again i'm drawing these these dots on is feeling like a very important step got it held in place and now i'm gonna really crank it thanks guys for tuning in on a monday appreciate you coming over to hang out a little while we typically on mondays at four o'clock do the jesse james rising star premiere that's where we give our our community the opportunity to share a project a design a tutorial with um with our following here on facebook so if you are a designer that likes to make videos or maybe you can like you like to design jewelry i would like to take a stab at making a video we would love to see what you got submit an application you send an email with your request to have a rising star premiere date to hello at jessejamesbeads.com i feel like this one's gonna be too far away now all right here we go this hole punch is so easy fingers crossed everybody okay great i'm happy with that cool so now we've got three terminals of which to hang our project from and we are moving on guys the hammering impress art portion of the program is complete all right what's next okay so now i'm gonna slide the beading mat back down here and we can work on we got another crimp to do on moving on this project guys who are tuning in right now where are you where are you all coming in from is it sunny about you you feeling ready for some sun catcher okay so now what we are going to do is attach this guy to here i'm going to use the middle finding the middle hole where are the crimp beads there they are crimp tubes excuse me okay so now just simple crimping again just a little bit of simple crimping slide the crimp tube on slide your wire into the hole of your choice oh wow oh elizabeth and brenda are both from oklahoma that's cool are you guys friends yet okay slide this in here now i'm taking my wire and i'm stringing it through a couple beads just so that that wire tail isn't poking out anywhere and it it makes me feel like i can give this a little bit of a tighter tug okay so you want everything to be snug but not to the point that it can't wiggle okay now come back in here with a crimp tube handy dandy two-step process put the macaroni in the pot okay and then flip it around give her a squeeze oops tada oh my gosh i'm so excited guys like i said i haven't made this exact project so i'm i am very anxious and excited to see how it turned out yay oh my goodness so cute so far i'm stoked okay cool um next we are going to attach the top part to the top hole there remove our aren't these bead stoppers great just makes me feel a lot more secure especially with me dropping the camera on top of the beads earlier that could have been a mess if there weren't stoppers on these strings thanks debbie okay same process crimp tube on string on the portion here our hammered our hammered bit and i'm just going to string up through the crimp tube back up through that really cool spacer b that's one of my favorite spacers these like funky little cogs come on now there we go okay and just gonna like pull it so it's tight tight but not too tight and you'll feel that out if you're new with string and you'll feel that out if you've strung before you know exactly what i'm talking about okay and then now we're coming in here macaroni divot goes first my necklace got caught on the tripod again okay i almost feel like i need glasses to see this okay like doing the zoom in and out with my eyeballs okay two step process whoa cool all right sweet sweet sweet all right we are getting somewhere huh like does it look like the picture a little bit live by the sun loved by the moon catcher sun catcher all right i'm just gonna trim the little tail off here oops you know what i just want to get a tiny tiny bit closer in there 49 strand wire is a little stubborn and my cutters are a little old oh thanks for being patient with me do you know what i'm going to have to come in with my oh wait did i get it yes got it geez louise um your italian flush cutters won't do that to you they are those guys um a little bit sharper than these ones but anyway we did it hooray okay so next let's see we have got a jesse james beads sun catcher component we have got dakota stone strand the jesse james bead strand featuring dakota stones some extra jesse james glass we just did impress our and made some texture here we've been using some beetle on wire and crimp tubes now it is time to add in our friends at tierracast like i said this is this show today is brought to you by the mojo 2b group where all six brands get along and play so nicely together and the reason that we form this little coalition if you will is because we we all truly really like each other as as as friends everyone that's in these brands and our products just really work nicely together they um they're friends they like they play well in the sandbox so that is why this piece that you are seeing come together here has a little bit of everything from everyone so now i was thinking i was thinking i was thinking of thinking with hanging from these other dots here they are kind of close to this bead i wish i would have spaced them out a tiny bit more but i was thinking to hang some of these drops like this sparkle hmm it's gonna be a little tight in there what to do what to do well let's try it anyway okay and then if i need to finagle with it i will oh you know what it could be a cool place maybe we could add some leather in there i just feel like the jump ring is gonna be too small i was gonna use a jump ring in that spot and i feel like it's gonna be too clustered but i'll get them out and we'll um we'll just play around i did say at the beginning that this was gonna be a tiny bit of design on the fly so let's just let's try the jump ring first and then and then i've got i got a little bit of an idea what we could potentially do with this leather it might be kind of cool so let's just give this an open up and see to anyone who's just tuning in now thanks for coming by i hope your monday is going well let's just see what this looks like oopsies butterfingers okay good grip on there and slide her back wiggle it just a little bit anyone else always have a song in their head i feel like i could come up with a a jingle for absolutely anything okay let's see so that's hanging behind that crystal um it doesn't really want to be oh you know what maybe it's not terrible oh you gotta be kidding me shoot oh no well this crimp didn't hold this big sucker here that's all right we're gonna go back and do it again crimp tubes do you know what i'm going to do down on this end because i'm going to need a little bit of extra just slide some of these beads off yep that's exactly what we're gonna do slide some of these beads off and we are gonna take that one more time over again and maybe i just didn't crimp with enough enough gusto okay okay yeah marika you know what that's a good idea i was wondering i think that i'm gonna take a word of advice from you and we're gonna try two crimp beads down here i like that idea i do let's go to do crimp below the knot so the little bead still hides okay yeah let's take that one off because this bead cap will definitely hide the crimp tube but right now i am going for function on this one because because because if your crimp bead sticks out you can always get a crib cover okay and i want this piece to hold arlene you can absolutely go back and watch this from the beginning and if you're signed up for our newsletters we'll be sending this one out to you bloopers and all okay cool so and this is like i mean this is just this is real life jewelry making this is real life crafting sometimes you do something and a mistake happens and you have to find a way to make it work so now i am just i've used two crimp beads here because i think we need a little more strength with this big honker on the end i'm pulling this tight but not too tight and now we're gonna do a double crimp here's the crimp tool alrighty this is like the part of the this is the part of the tutorial where i would love to just do a where i would love to just do a flat crimp but i know my friends at beadalon and around the industry will just recoil and probably half of you guys too but yes okay so we got two macaronis okay not one but two the wire is separated in there and i'm just going up this channel to make sure it's extra extra good and then now i'm going to flip it over and bring these two ends together oh boy is it sturdy are we staying okay this feels really good so two crimps is definitely the way to go with this honker um or maybe i just didn't crimp it hard enough the first time but i i think for the security the two crimps feels really good this feels strong and sturdy okay yay thanks for the hearts we did it guys and we did it together nobody got hurt and everyone is still having a good time okay now i'm going to just trim off the little end here oh my goodness thank the lord thank you for the love and the hearts you guys sure know how to make a girl feel real good we did it together thank you thank you to um yeah thank you to marika thank you marika for the idea to do the two crimp tubes that definitely definitely is working out here okay so there we go now um so with the leather cord and the tierracast my original thought was to just do some tierracast drops around the middle and tie the leather cord up top but i'm wondering let's see what time it is i'm wondering if we did a little bit of leather here and a little leather at the top as well thanks everyone so i've got this beautiful leather from lc usa we just brought some additional styles onto the site and i love them i'm thinking let's remove this guy here anybody else's bead stations look like a bomb one off by the time they're finished making a piece of jewelry i kind of think it's like in the same breath as like never trust a cook with a clean kitchen not to say that you couldn't trust a jewelry maker with a clean workstation but there's nothing wrong nothing wrong with like i said get your hands dirty so i was thinking what if what if what if this pretty leather was strung up through here and we just did like a little it's a cute little adornment let's see what that looks like when i give myself some extra on the ends donna says i think everyone has a messy station when they're done okay good god we're all cut from the same cloth and then how about just like a little bow here what's everyone getting into tonight i myself can feel my belly rumbling already so i think there's gonna be an early dinner and maybe a glass of wine in my future probably be nice after this monday at work cool so i just tied a little bow here uh i don't know if that's really doing it for me just like a little knot huh yeah i kind of like that like here let me back it up so you can see it like i kind of like how it's we're getting like this little bit of an organic look and i'm gonna tie some dangles to the end of this leather and put some leather at the top and that'll be that'll be it my stuff out of the way here we've got some extra beads from that strand and i was working with blue the other day huh that might be kind of cool like some blue drops on the end to go with the blue leather okay let's see okay i am going to take these drops and string them here kind of like raindrops you know that's how i wanted this piece to feel i wanted it to feel very much like just earthy but sparkly and speaking of sparkly we're having a design challenge this week it's not going to pull it down too much we're having a design challenge over in the mojo b group jesse james beads sponsored the prize is 200 worth of jesse james beat sent to you um and what we're asking you to do is post a picture of your sparkliest your blingiest jewelry or craft okay so your entry is due by next monday the 25th i think it is and the hashtag is i believe the hashtag is sparkleon and then we also want you to tag jesse james beat so he can find you now go to the mojo2 group you'll get more information about it there you know in this project like i said i had a loose idea for it in the beginning but as you know such is life like we play the weather sometimes things go as planned sometimes you gotta make it up as you go and there is beauty in all of that okay sorry i don't mean to take that off camera okay i'm thinking maybe like just take this oh did we extend the cherry blossom sale awesome danielle are we extended for cherry blossom sweet so we've got this really beautiful collection of beads it's pinks and tans this tan strand that we're working with is involved there and it is twenty percent off with the code blossom at jessejamesbeads.com i think that i want this to stay wrapped around here just taking it up and over thanks trisha it can be fun but it can also be like a little nerve-wracking like it's really fun when you're in your studio just designing whatever you want but then you're on camera like oh i hope this comes out okay oh my gosh i like it okay cool i'm gonna do this at the top too so just to kind of let me hold it up okay just show you like kind of what's going on here yeah i kind of dig it i kind of dig it um okay so let me just lay this guy down and we'll do some more leather at the top um i think i want about the same length so i'm just going to rosanna when you're right you're right girl how are you feeling by the way it's been really you know such ah we're all warriors in our own right i'll tell you that we got a strong strong group here online you guys are amazing okay so i am going to how are we going to attach this um i am going to i don't know i'm just gonna just twist it up and see what happens okay here comes the knot actually i'm taking my knot from the underside and going over because that is the way i want the cord to fall okay and i'm gonna pinch these two together hoping that that just kind of like cinches them as one sweet okay this is going to give the hook at the top a little more stability also and its whole end end and it's covering fancy knot thank you sherry and it's covering our crimp bead okay all right i'm just giving it a little titan squeeze not knots knots become knots when they are tugged from both sides so if you are ever making a square knot that's why it's important that you like tug on the um not just on the the tail end that you're tying up but also on the base so knots become knots when you tug from both sides okay now i think remember when i was saying i wanted to incorporate more of the yellow glass here she comes okay and i didn't get to work my tierracast charmin so i'm gonna do it right now i'm gonna use some of these tierracast spacer beads which are just delightful um did you guys get to watch the beadalon design challenge back in january it was when there's 24 designers from around the industry um jewelry with all the same kit of supplies and that was a mojo event as well man was it cool oopsies and um the tierracast stuff that we just recently brought on is the tierracast supplies that were provided for this design challenge i was just so excited about how pretty the um the tierracast pieces looked with the jesse james beads so if you're interested in getting your hands on some of the beads that those designers worked with you can find them over at the jjb shop and i know it is getting late guys this video is supposed to be over at five we try to keep the videos to an hour length because like i mean time is valuable we know you guys have other things going on there's a lot of media on online to watch there's a lot of creating to be done in your studios so for anyone that popped on today or if you stuck it out the whole time or even if you were just able to pop on for a little bit thank you so much okay just adding that little mixed media element to the bottom here or the middle okay i'm gonna add my little glass beads on and we are gonna call it a day michelle thank you so much i appreciate that i like it too i really do i um it kind of took on a new a new shape and form especially did not realize that the leather was going to be getting we were going to be getting this involved with the leather but man oh man i really i really like it okay i'm just doing simple overhand knots here and we say all the time at jesse james beast we say this all the time beautiful design whether it be a funky craft like this or a piece of jewelry beautiful design does not need to be hard no need to be hard you don't need to have like a million skills in your toolbox to be able to make something cool that you enjoy it's fun to just get some beads that speak to you some product that just makes your soul sing as a raw item and then let your creative mind and your let your creativity go to work just have fun with it like it should be fun right okay i feel like i might shorten these a little bit i think i might shorten these a little bit but i'm gonna do it off camera and hold this up because it is certainly getting to be right at the doorstep of y'all's dinner time i know it is getting close to mine so i'm gonna flip this camera around and show you this held up here is the live by the sun love by the moon sun catcher thank you sherry it's very sweet okay sometimes i wonder what i'm i look like when i flip the camera back around after making the toy like tired well the same person am i do i look more creative than before okay so here is let's see yay our sun catcher mixed media guys it is march's
