[Music] [Music] [Music] hello and welcome everyone to the third round of the intelligent money british gt championship we're heading into the middle part of the season and we've already enjoyed two nail-biting races so far most recently the silverstone 500 a race which kept us getting right until the end let's take a look back at some of the action from two weeks ago three hours of racing the silverstone 500 then martin codrick for two cc's motorsport on pole had a battle in the number one car from while well boat sport alongside him the thunder roars as they head towards cop's corner oh sideways at las machinski around leo andrew howard and kelvin fletcher who did a brilliant job to avoid him great battle here in gt4 oh matt topham there getting a hellboat out of the way first by john ferguson and then by matt cowley in the 61 mustang member on board with him now slicing and dicing goes back to the inside of top and there near he is late on the brakes into stowe now you see there how he's he's he's offsetting himself both on entry to the left and mid corner on the right there trying to find clean air because that's downforce when you're behind that car you're getting dirtier and you feel the lack of grip and he's got that move down what a beauty beautiful move because that's such looks like they're gonna have to retire the car you can just see the disappointment on the young man's body language there he just absolutely gutted at long last comes the race leader hunter abbott thinks right the thing's nearly out of fuel the tires are almost walled down to the canvas uh oh maybe i'll let martin cottage have a go now we have a fight for the race lead dennis lynn could not be any closer to martin coddridge purple fastest middle sector for linde on this lap surely is where lin will have the edge he goes up the inside of codridge in the vehicle corner godrich cannot close the door they are wheel to wheel for the lead of the race codrick's on the outside and lind has done it battle here between scott mckenna in the toyota gordon colebrook in the number nine century motorsport bmw he's going to have this done i think he's got the move done he's now alongside he's just got to hold the inside lovely move lead battle is on there turner has done the catching now he's got to do the passing and darren turner is about to move into the gt4 class lead yes because burton thought about turning in incomes hunter abbott so yeah they're going to stick this is what we said isn't it they're going to stick codrich in for the uh last hour and five minutes this is banggong q really isn't it we thought that dennis lin would try and do the last hour and there are 59 minutes and 20 seconds left on the clock so dennis lin will get in oh no and that is martin plowman martin plummer has stopped the paddock motorsport bentley that looks like it's down at club uh this meanwhile is for positioning gt4 around the outside goes andrew gordon-colebrook and he moves into sixth place in gt force this will be the lap that caesar's uh break the 500 kilometer uh distance is for second place on the final lap of the race defensive line by the dennis lind they're going to catch the andrew gordon colbrook bmw as well lin to the inside mitchell in the middle there's a big big squeeze they almost made contact just about aboard each other right around the outside for mitchell now there is oh he's gonna have the inside line down to club is he mitchell late on the brakes he has done it mitchell into second place what a battle that was the 2021 silverstone 500 it's gonna be won by two seas motorsport sandy mitchell does hang on from dennis lind what a battle between the teammates gt4 then darren turner is gonna do it he's gonna win his first british gt race and he's gonna do it in style with matt topham on his debut in the championship matt topham has dreamt of racing in british gt for years and he wins on his first attempt the race victory went the way a two-seas motor sport with martin codrich and hunter abbott winning at the silverstone 500 so as we arrive at donington park the gt3 points leaders are leo machitsuki and dennis lind in their barwell motorsport lamborghini but with only 12 points covering the top five it's still way too early to be picking out any championship favourites there was bitter disappointment last time out for the team abba racing squad whose mercedes amg gt3 climbed from 10th on the grid to third spot during richard neary's hugely impressive opening stint but the father and son duo ran into trouble shortly after their first pit stop when the car got stuck in gear just a couple of laps into sam neary's stint so after all their impressive early pace it was game over we've obviously looked after and it was actually a gearbox compressor issue uh which left me stuck in third gear on my second lap of the race you know it's just one of those things we're either hoping to bounce back this weekend fp1 went really well i didn't actually i went in for one lap just to check the car was okay with the setup and then richard did an amazing lap time really looking positive but then an fb2 uh i went out for my first flyer and we've had a right front brake this failure so i went to press the brakes successes and it uh it's exploded hoping to bounce back this weekend so we'll see how we do in gt4 it was a great debut for the aston martin pairing of darren turner and matt topham who secured their first british gt victory on their first attempt together it was a strong race too for the only audi on the grid piloted by richard williams and sennan fielding they qualified on the gt4 pole and had formidable pace throughout the three hours eventually missing out on the win by just over three seconds obviously silverstone was a great weekend for us um the silverstone 500 normally always suits the pro-ams so we have an extra pit stop time penalty compared to them so three pit stops it added up to make it really tough but it showed how competitive we was only finishing shy of three seconds to darren turner so like i said i think stella did a mega job the audi was faultless all the way through the race and it was it was a great race it would have been so nice to get the win there obviously being their home circuit but like it was great points for the championship now we've just got to move on [Music] here we go then round number three of the intelligent money british gt championship for 2021 coming to you live from the donington park grand prix circuit the first of two visits to donington park this year this now sort of traditional summer date coupled up with the donington decider for the season finale at the end of the year it's a circuit that is steeped in british gt history some of the most memorable moments of the years of this championship have happened here i'm sure we're going to have a few more to add to that list today the weather is actually not too bad it's warm track temperature in the high 20s as it has been all day and that humidity has come down by about 20 from what it was this morning there was a threat of some rain but we're hoping that that has uh sort of disappeared now 20 degrees ambient temperature uh a thoroughly pleasant summer's day for the fans at the track to enjoy they're out in their limited numbers but out in force nonetheless cheering on the drivers enjoying the sights and sounds of the cars and uh hopefully gonna enjoy a great two hours of racing uh british gt gaining an even uh bigger fan base as the years go on which is so great to see cars are lining up on the grid then in a moment or two we'll head down to bryn lucas who's on the pit lane beforehand though let's introduce the commentary team andy mcqueen up here delighted to be joined once again by joe osborne uh joe this championship it just keeps us guessing doesn't it and this year i know we say it's always wide open but it really is isn't it yeah it's been brilliant so far i've seen third round we've been at brown's hatch on the gp track silverstone for the big sort of blue ribbon event at the 500 where we saw plenty of action plenty of crashing which was good and now we're here at donington which historically has bred really really good close racing and that's been backed up by qualifying yesterday both classes gt3 and gt4 we're looking at mere 10th of a second covering the whole field so i think we've got some good ingredients for a good race hopefully lots of action and uh two hours of fun yeah four different makes of car in the top five of the uh gt3 grid this is the car that will start fifth on the grid morgan tillbrook at the wheel of the enduro motorsport mclaren uh who are due some good luck really morgan had a crash on the warm-up lap at bran's hatch marcus then had a collision at silverstone which he said by his own admission was a mistake on his part not one that he's going to make again if he can help it and that car has been qualifying really well hopefully we'll see it run well in the race as well two-hour race then joe strategy always interesting in these races you're throwing these success penalties as well and i think we have got all the makings of another classic haven't we yeah definitely the am starting is always quite spicy it's not their day job so they're allowed to make more mistakes that we're kind of used to so it definitely adds a huge fun element uh to that part of the race yeah most definitely and uh we're looking forward to seeing how the opening stint of the race gets on one of the drivers that's gonna be out there in the first in this nick jones starting from fourth brim yeah they've really really improved over the last uh last few days really and i was talking to nick jones teammate scott malvin about this nick the car seems to really be coming to you now yeah no we've spent uh obviously quite a few uh a few days testing uh up until the start of the season but it wasn't really coming together but uh thursday we had a bit of a eureka moment and uh we know the direction we need to go and i think that's where a lot of the improvements have come so i think it'd be interesting to see what it's going to be like racing um but you know it's much nicer being at the sharp end so uh we'll see how we get on i think it'd be good the car is really good now yeah absolutely well good luck for the race nick yeah no thank you cheers thank you yeah thanks bryn and uh it's so nice to see the team parker racing porsche on the pace it's a car that goes well in europe isn't it team parker starting now to get there wrap their head around in german obviously they had the bentley for a good three or four years both generations actually and i think nick was struggling maybe as an arm in that car the porsche definitely seems to be a little bit more unfriendly especially here in sector three the big traction zones where the porsche has got the engine fundamentally in the wrong place it is great for traction so i think that cars can be really strong in the final sector for me yeah it comes out of those tight corners really really well and that is their best qualifying effort of the season so far on poor position though is a front engine mercedes it's the ram racing car and yama berman is down there whitbring yes a lot of empty track ahead of the elmo you must be very happy with the performance of the car over yesterday and today so far yeah definitely i mean ian's done a great job being quickest in his group then i had to go and do the same basically which was tough it was extremely you know tight extremely competitive the times were very close and we had some some misunderstanding i would say about uh the definition of the track limits here uh but anyway in the end i managed to uh quite late in the run still put a good enough lap for pole position so that was great it didn't seem to cause you any problems though because your third fastest that was pretty good too but you've got this 10 second penalty you're starting on the front where are you aiming for at the end well we're just going to see i mean for sure we're going to try and keep or ian's going to try and keep the lead after the start and you know just have a steady steady but quick pace and see see how far we can get and we all know overtaking here is possible it's not that easy but i mean we've showed good pace in all the practice and uh we're confident that we can you know finish uh somewhere up near the front yeah anything's possible good luck exactly thanks yeah ram racing then on the pole position for this race and uh it's gonna be interesting to see how they get on with a 10 second success penalty remember now in gt4 uh we have a similar situation actually where the car that's on gt4 pole position has a success penalty because it's the new bridge motorsports aston martin uh that really kind of seemed to dominate gt4 at silverstone they only won by three seconds in the end but darren turner and matt topham did a brilliant job darren cannot be here this weekend though so he's being uh subbed by uh darren burke who uh joe i know you know reasonably well really impressive driver yeah really really good darren's been around for years like myself coming through the ranks and hasn't had the break for his talent to be fair so he's going to actually have the bit between his teeth to prove that he should be there obviously darren turner we know he's got a relatively good cv he's been around for a few years and obviously new bridge didn't have the budget to get a driver that wasn't called darren so i've got darren burkin and uh i think he's going to be a bit of a star the show especially later on in the race once he gets in uh i think those guys are going to be really hard to beat either with their uh success penalty of 20 seconds yeah 20 seconds because they won at silverstone last time out and uh speak of the devil darren burke is uh down there on the grid with bryn lucas excited about this one i'd imagine brim yeah you've got to swap out darren's haven't you when it comes to teams darren you're stepping in for darren turner and you've done pretty well so far yeah it's been a really good weekend so far obviously we can't ask for much more from the team and and matt i think i did a pretty good lap in in qualifying but definitely uh matt made my life easy so we're in the right position for the race obviously we've got a 20-second penalty in the pits so we have to do our best and get ourselves on the front row we've done that and uh you know anything can happen in a two-hour race but uh yeah i've stepped in to feel some some big boots and uh we're doing all right so far what is what is the overall game plan though the game plan just to keep them out of the front really hopefully we can build a slight gap to the other pro-am cars maybe go with the the silver class car that's next to us he's going to be very fast so if he can keep with him and build a bit of a margin before we hit the pits that'll be good we don't know what the weather's going to do so that may may play a role in it as well but it's looking good it's going to be a tricky one is it with the weather but it's all hopefully going to come together absolutely let's hope for it and uh hopefully see us on the podium at the end yeah good luck thanks very much yeah it's been a dream start to the season really they missed bran's hatch that team but they uh came back with a vengeance at silverstone and as i said they were the pacesetters but he makes a good point that alongside him is the silver cup mclaren number four from team rocket rjn so that car in theory might be quicker over the first stint of the race but we'll have to serve an extra bit of time in the pit lane the silver cup cars in gt4 have to spend an extra 26 seconds in the pit lane uh during their mandatory pit stop compared to the pro um entries right back down to the grid then back into gt3 now and a man who had a day to forget yesterday sam neary who's father richard will start from the back of the gt3 grid brim luck hasn't been on your side but i bet you're hoping for a change in circumstances yeah definitely uh walmart we showed we're really quick being p1 in warm-up rich has been incredible this weekend he's been so fast so no definitely looking forward to this race we really think we still could be in the chance for a podium yeah absolutely we wish you all the best we'll keep an eye on you thank you very much thanks dan thank you so uh sam neary then i mean if ever there was a team that deserved some good look joe it's team abba is now i mean they've been quick from the moment they arrived at brands hatch at the start of the year but every weekend something has gone wrong and there's something that went wrong this week was uh pretty dramatic wasn't it yeah i think abra just gonna be sort of give me give me give me a break and i think with the brake disc exploding and doing so much damage yesterday firstly the team the group of guys working there to get that car back in contention and running well in warm up we know it's a fast car and uh yeah richard is definitely a driver that likes to be on the front foot i think it's a polite way of saying he's very aggressive so that car starting last in gt3 i'd be surprised if the front bumper is unmarked by the end of two hours put it that way put in a brilliant stint at silverstone did richard near he came from 10th on the grid which is where he starts today to third by the time he went to hand over to samir he was voted driver of the day as a result by you the fans at home and uh unfortunately it was when sam jumped into the car last time that they had the car got stuck in gear and that was really their day done well the grid is cleared then we're about to head out onto that green flag lap and uh this is when the tension starts to mount ahead of two hours of racing it's a long race but you can we see time and time again don't we that things can go wrong at the start and in fact for ram racing here last year different drivers but sam to ham when he was driving for ram racing last year he did spin at the first corner of one of our donington park races and then only came back to win the very same race so you can bounce back from early adversity but that is certainly not in the game plan for the teams out there green flag lap then underway let's ring you through the grid for round number three of the intelligent money british gt championship ian logging on pole position with mike ligo for wpi motorsport a welcome return to pace for the lamborghini outfit another lamborghini x adam balon in the number one car and nick jones for team park racing that porsche really on the pace this weekend morgan tilbrook for enduro motorsport is fifth alongside stuart proctor in the balf motorsport mclaren ahead of kelvin fletcher in the paddock motorsport bentley and andrew howard a little bit off the pace this weekend beach team can they move forward from eighth on the grid leo machits knight after a spin in qualifying richard neary at the back of the gt3 grid as a result of not setting a time in qualifying after that break explosion then in gt4 matt topham from new bridge motorsport in the aston martin on pole alongside harry hayek great to see the rocket rjn mclarens enjoying a return of pace this weekend john ferguson in the toyota because he racing uk toyota is third in gt4 alongside a seto motorsports ginetta started by uh it should be mark samson then we've got uh on the next row of the grid uh senate fielding in the audi although again that should be richard williams i think alongside uh will more yes in the academy motorsport ford mustang then alan bellant and jordan collard in the number two silver cook entry for team rocket rjn and getting towards the back of the grid not a place that we're used to seeing will burns or either of the century motorsport bmws really uh ashley marshall company they're on the tenth row of the grid overall behind them chris sulkeld the second of those bmws the pro am entry for century with dave whitmore's car gods with sicily motorsport mercedes next then we get right to the back of the grid where fox motorsports nick halstead will bring up the rear of the 23 car grid across the two classes lots to look forward to here gt3 gt4 pro am and silver ammo silver cup in gt4 classes as well wherever you look in this race there is going to be drama there's going to be action and it all starts in just a few moments time then with the in loggie on pole position and michael i go alongside i go remember with phil keane won the season opener at brands hatch and that red and black lamborghini needs some points really uh after a disappointing silverstone where they dropped to third in the championship it's incredibly tight though just nine points covering the top four teams in the championship what will the championship standings look like in two hours time i wonder we're about to get the first piece of the puzzle in place because round number three of the intelligent money british gt championship gets underway now the raw builds as the field pours towards red gate corner it's absolutely level between uh ian logging on the inside and on the outside michael i go into third place look comes nick jones in the team park racing porsche and they're all around again goes the wpi car mike ligo is collected by leo machitsuki the second year in a row the wpi car has spun at redgate corner on lap one richard neary joe osborne is in second place from 10th on the grid i know you said he was on the front foot but that is astonishing absolutely mad start there there's quite a lot happening in the mid pack adam ballen was slow to get going but bentley actually hit him as we run over the start finish line and yeah it looks like jones and wpi of igor have got together and spun around and i think machisk is going to be out with front left damage safety car is out rather unsurprising as we see morgan tilbury off in the background as well so it's going to be a race of attrition after one lap a lot of damage on the 63 lamborghini they're going back to the pits but that's going to be day done it's definitely got a front left puncher the sparks indicate some kind of suspension failure as well i would suggest so i think we're definitely one car down and it all depends on nick jones and iger if they can get going as well blimey well i think jones is still in the in the order although further back than he should be i go i haven't seen so i go could be in the gravel at redgate we'll try and clear that up in a moment but well i've said it would be a dramatic uh start to the race i did not anticipate it would be quite that dramatic i'm hearing that igo is still stationary at red gate corner so if they can't get the car started again uh they're going to be out of the race unfortunately in gt4 it looks like matt topham has actually fended off in fact where is uh hayek gone he's dropped right down into sixth place the number four mclaren that started second in gt4 yeah that car's going nowhere is it joe no so that's obviously the front left of machisky hitting the rear left of igo uh i i feel igo is probably innocent in this in this regard where he's spun in the corner it probably looks like he's been turned around by another car and that's just done so much suspension damage unfortunately race cars are super strong as we see machisky not able to make it round the melbourne hairpin uh obviously probably get round left hander's okay but when you're loading that corner and there's no grip coming from that front left and that's going to add a little bit to the safety card delay it's actually going to be a lot of work for the guys to get back so both of those cars are done for the day unfortunately so i think i go as a bit of a favorite for the race that's really uh scuppered his plans as we see leo managed to get the car going and yeah lee had a problem in qualifying yesterday he was further back and that happened so often in motorsport you have a bit of bad luck and that breeds more luck he would have felt like he was out of place and uh yeah i have to feel sorry for him i'm not as sorry as his wife his uh ex-wife has actually turned up to over five kids to watch the dad race so i saw that before the race so hopefully i can get back home and don't have to talk to leo too much oh dear uh right so let's recap then ian logging leads richard neary has defied the laws of physics i think it's come from tenth to second within two corners of that race stuart proctor is third for valve motorsport adam ballon fourth for barwell nick jones dropped to fifth be interesting to get a look at the front of that porsche to see if there are any witness marks any potential damage to the front of the porsche into the garage goes the 63 championship leading lamborghini don't forget that incident at term one took out two of our top three cars in the championship because the 18 car was third coming into the race right then joe what are we seeing so i'm seeing a slow start from the number one balance you watch the bendy actually hits the back of the mclaren there so that's all we started off the kind of the mood for the term one and as we get this long shot let's just watch that blue porsche on the inside is going to be my gut instinct so he's got a good start initially nick jones who's got to the inside so you would have thought he's probably safe but the cars are full of fuel compared to like in qualifying they're 80 kilos heavier at least just on fuel cold tires cold breaks see a bit of brake dust coming out it's just out of shot you can actually hear it though i think the porsche just nudging the lambo and igor's got no hope of saving that machiskey is an innocent bystander the gt4s actually do a really good job to not get involved as we go on board with igo so let's watch this you won't see too much to his right hand side you may just see loggie come forward under brakes he'll turn in and listen yeah just hear that noise coming from the rear right and he's just on side and then the secondary hit i can literally hear the pound signs on that second impact that's not nice to hear so we're going on board andrew howard by the looks of it see stuart pot to get a rocket start so he's sixth on the grid but he gets to the inside in front of baron who had that slow start then nick jones can't quite see it can we but without definitely saying he's guilty i can't see how he's innocent and then that then opens up in the mirror you see just scampering through little scouse charm there gets them all the way up to second he got a few before turn one though i think richard henry there you can just see richard actually in the background look the mercedes benefits i think from this congestion with morgan tilbrook and kelvin fletcher getting together goes to the outside which you think would be the wrong place to be through redgate given what's about to happen and somehow slices and dices his way through this was on board with morgan tilburg there's the uh back end of the shunt and andrew howard there you can see delayed in the aston martin as well but joe this does have potentially huge championship ramifications because the 63 car was leading the points the 18 car was third johnny adam who was between them johnny adam and andrew howard who was between them in second in the points down in seventh place as well so there was always the potential i felt for this race to really jumble up the championship standings in gt3 and gt4 in fairness and given what we've seen in the first five minutes i think i'm right yeah definitely i can't bridge gt as a proper championship in how they do the scoring that you're not allowed to drop around so some championships allow you to drop your worst round which obviously a dnf inherently becomes because you don't have that luxury the dnf double hurts you in this sort of championship and it is really really painful uh and it looks like potentially we've lost another column the gt4 cars yeah i think i caught a glimpse of the audi richard williams stationary on the exhibition straight i don't know if we can find a shot of that but it looked as though uh the audi had pulled over now they've had electrical gremlins all weekend joe i don't know if that's a return too early to say obviously we can only speculate but that's a real shame they were definitely contenders today yeah and they're already a lap down so even though the safety cars out and the race pace is a good minute slower than green flag racing once you've got a lap down it is almost impossible to ever get that lap back so that's gonna be a long day if they even can get that car re going we're looking at like probably in this lap for the safety car for me if that audi can be clear the wpi car's been dragged out of the way really quickly rather on turn only but uh jcb seems to be stronger than that beginning and it's worked in that instant so there we go so yeah great call spotted it right drivers out the car which is normally quite terminal in terms of that it's not in a safe place for me uh that in terms of its proximity to the circuit the speed there but you've got the exhibition center so there's nowhere the car can be pushed to so again that might have to be a tow job out the way i think to clear the track marshall's in good spirits though so richard clearly entertaining them as he chats away to them right then bryn lucas has made his way down to barwon motorsport and he is with i'd imagine a pretty dejected leo majitsuki yeah i think it's fair to say i'm with quite a dejected leo machitsuki here leo talk us through that from your point of view uh well the start was relatively clean i moved up from whatever we were p9 uh probably about p4 p5 um i saw ago spinning and as she was spinning off the track the the rear of his car started pointing back onto the track and he for some reason released the break and the car rolled into the pack and took me out and for you in the car is it something that could be repaired and sent back out do you think it can but it will take a while it's taken out the front corner so it's going to take a while and we'll you know possibly score some points but it's it's a real shame hugely frustrating for yourself and for your teammate as well really yeah absolutely yesterday leo thank you very much thank you well uh leo muchinski was never going to be a cheery bloke to chat to uh worth getting back out there though isn't it joe because we only have 10 gt3 cars entered this weekend if you can just finish you'll get something from your afternoon yeah definitely uh leo's an interesting character i've worked for him for quite a few years that definitely wouldn't be on the wrong side of him but uh yeah mark lemmerick bower will tell him to basically shut up and get in the car and get some points like you've alluded to so safety car in and that is an awful restart from alba considering how great a start he's done that is that's the cardinal sin of motorsport your safety car restart is the best time to get on the front foot and attack and that is a huge gap left from richard new so he'll be kicking himself over that as you see the gt4 is trying to get three wide with morgan tilbury now obviously trying to recover the time loss that he had on that off as he went around the clean so ginetta on the inside of one of the mclarens it's gonna be an interesting run down there as the car actually gt3 wise siding through the traffic it's so awkward that sort of miscommunication is gt4 leaving a space always just run wide so yeah morgan i think is probably on the air airing on the side of caution as we then see the m4 get down the inside and depending if we've got the race directors from red bull ring f1 they're going to be given penalties out left right center for stuff like this so that is matt topham who was on the pole and was leading gt4 but interestingly on the timing screen says he was overtaken on the previous lap by john ferguson and will moore with previous levels by the safety car there's another shunt the assetto ginetta was involved there was a mclaren in it as well and i want to say maybe chris salkheld in the sentry motorsport bmw heavy contact there for the number 90 mclaren there that's the valve motorsports ashley marshall started car you can see mark sansom in the geneta and under one of the rjn mclarens it was i don't think it was the bmw uh and let's see what we can catch of this it's all sort of happened already has it looks like another one of those sort of first lap essentially incidents where one car gets spun and everyone just sort of piles in yeah just trying to look at the running orders they came over the line and i couldn't even really work out who was in front when wow oh damage on that i'm not sure if it's because of the football on and everyone wants to get home but i've never seen the rate of attrition in a gt race like this we're with five cars down now that's pretty much gonna be out of the race unless they've got literally a few kilos of tesa tape to get that back together i can't see that being fixed so yeah i think i think the ginetta was limping back to the pits the valve gt4 looked heavily damaged on the front end so again looks like a concertina kind of effect but this early on everyone just needs to get their heads together yeah it's a two-hour race this everyone you can uh you can ease your way into it but uh well there you go uh into the pit lane it was the number three mclaren by the way of alan velant was the rjn car that was involved in that shunt i can see that because he just pitted at the head of the field by the way richard neary fastest lap of the race so despite not being on his toes on the restart he was eight tenths of a second quicker than ian logi over the rest of the lap and look at the way that richard neary has caught the race leader words i did not think i'd be saying eleven and a half minutes into this race absolutely nose to tail as they head through the foggety s's once again and stuart proctor in the balf motorsport mclaren is right there with them yes brilliant and although they're both mercedes amg's you can see a slight difference to it so the bdi guys at home may notice on the front grill there's a difference so the pink car in front of the ram car is the facelift as another safety car gets called i hope the mclaren gt is being fully fueled for the afternoon uh but under safeguard you get to see the difference in the grill so the neary car is actually the previous generation car so slightly different bop so it's almost hard to know what the similarities are so i actually think although they're the same car you will see some nuances and difference in performance in different areas as obviously the safety car was needed as we see the three car go back and three cars got a lot of damage high up on the bonnet which is quite rare so it looks like it's almost like got underneath something which maybe could be the genetics a bit lighter and it's kind of shoveled it out the way but uh yeah there's a there's a lot of cars and a lot of repairs that need doing 12 minutes into a race yes now this safety car is bad news free and loggy um he was already under pressure anyway but really what he needs to be doing is building a gap here because he's got this 10 second success penalty to serve from pole position with a penalty uh to serve at the pit stop she really want to make your break early uh and he's not being able to do that because we've had two safety cars in the first 15 minutes but uh on the plus side it gives him a bit of respite because richard neary was certainly starting to ask some questions of him uh matt topham never made it back to the pit lane either so that and the uh balf mclaren of ashley marshall the two cars that need to be moved hence the reason for this oh and the generator as well so the only one of those cars that made it back was the number three mclaren as it turns out so the marshals are going to be kept busy another shout out to all of our marshals who are here in force as always and uh it's it's great that we can have their services at our disposal volunteer marshals here in the uk the best in the business and uh we thank them for their hard hard work uh i'll tell you what that the driver of the live snatch vehicle wasn't hanging around absolutely 2 for the jcb um it should be a relatively short safety car in terms of being able to get that out of the way i'd say the aston careful of that mr marshall it's probably about 15 grand um the aston is in a safe place and it's just a geneta and there's actually the old pit entry for when f1 used to be here just on his left so i think we get back to green flag in the next five minutes at least and then as you said ian loggie then needs head down and he needs to try and check out on these guys to overcome his uh pit stop penalty of of 10 seconds that he's gonna have to serve and that's awful just sat there as all the other guys are circulating at full racing speed and when you're looking for tenths of a second then suddenly you've got 10 seconds extra you realize how much that is to overcome so obviously elmer berman no mean driver mercedes factory driver he'll be able to do some work but it's now really trying to work out the order of where guys are going to be and i'd say the nearest are really in the driving seat at this moment in thailand the proctors are also they're both 500 sun combos so it's a good dynamic to look at morgan tilbuck's there and i think marcus clark has been quicker weekend so it's still really wide open it's just we've taken out some of the sort of top contenders in my opinion uh wrongly because they're obviously not going to finish so uh it's now working out who's whose favorites to do well uh in gt4 by the way the toyota leads the way of john ferguson another team that really could do with some good look having had a non-finish at brands hatch uh they are leading that class from wilmore in the ford mustang leading early on though was the uh aston martin from new bridge motorsport and down at the new bridge garage now is bryn lucas yeah start of the race andy i was talking to darren burke about how good this race was looking and it's gone from good to bad very very quickly yeah that's a massive shame matt had such a good start the aston was looking looking good from the from the get-go he got the jump on everyone else um it's a real shame about the gt3s tangling up at term ones i think that's led to a chain reaction so then the safety car restart hasn't been perfect for us i'm not quite sure what happened with the toyota passing us around the last corner before the restart but um a chain reactions happen i think they all look like they went into mclean's trying going for the same part of the track at the same time and a few of them have collided obviously we've got big damage on the car matt's had to pull the car over so that's that's game over it's a shame because uh we were looking looking tasty it's a bit of a baptism of fire for you isn't it stepping in for darren turner and you didn't actually get out to race which is a real shame yeah it's good that you i've got this mask on really because you can't see the disappointment on my face but uh yeah it would have been would have been great and uh even better if we could have you know made it onto the podium which i think we had a good chance of doing well let's hope i can get out another time with uh with matt maybe it's uh another stage in the in the year or next year maybe yeah let's hope we get to see you out here again yeah look forward to it hopefully thanks very much brian and uh unfortunately bryn delivering quite a lot of bad news for us uh today so far hopefully this is not the trend for the rest of the race so in logging leads later richard neary second uh you were talking actually about the different uh mercedes amg's we've got on the front sam was telling me something uh the the team abba car is the most successful mercedes amg chassis that mercedes have ever made apparently as far as numbers of race wins in lots of different categories they've never won in this championship but they race it a lot in other series and uh fairly successfully now joe you've been trying to piece together what happened here i mean it might take a bit of piecing but uh what are you what are you concluding so i'm thinking the aston has got held up is slow going on what darren's saying in mclean's and then the number three car of alan valante has hit him because he has front damage and then i think that's caused the geneta to check up and then ashley marshall's got nowhere to go so it's a four-car incident i don't know what the sort of detonation point was in terms of the aston being slow but there's a lot of energy damage-wise so there's been some big speed deltas in that corner at some point and interesting that he lost two places before the safety car restart it's um yeah and an odd one that i'm not gonna be able to sleep tonight on until i work out it's like a murder mystery um i think we're getting safety car in this lap so the mclaren gt is uh nearly leading the race to be fair i think he will be 16th overall by the uh the end of this lap 620 horsepower so we are lucky with the safety car that mclaren supply is a proper weapon of a vehicle and that will be able to keep these guys all warm obviously that's the point the safety car needs to be going fast enough where everyone can keep tyres and brakes warm so when it does go green flag there's not a danger the tyre pressures get too low uh and you can get tire failures so seeing some big gaps again so kelvin fletcher needs to wake up a bit nick jones and these guys should all be nose to toe he can't overtake before the line but you can be no stone my trick is i shouldn't tell everyone i like to be alongside the guy in front because as long as my transponder's behind i've got the run on him and it's easier to hit him as well if i'm already alongside him so these guys need to get a bit of red bull down and get some anger going it's all a bit tame for me well richard neary has woken up this time thankfully staying right with ian loggie right then take three let's try this again as we go racing once more with an hour and 41 and a half minutes to go on the clock and richard neary immediately is on it goes to the inside to the outside back to the inside again richard neary for the race lead and he gets it at red gate corner mercedes goes ahead of mercedes and it's richard neary from 10th on the grid to the lead and now stuart proctor comes alongside loggi as well and this was always the danger on the restart if loggie lost one place he could lose more but actually did well where to fend procter off yeah it's a hard corner to go side by side hollywood into cranials and working straight over the years he's super super aggressive but super calculated as well so i think he probably would have seen that as maybe a diminishing return on investment so backed out of it wisely and also logging is quick he was quickest in qualifying in the am session so he's not the worst guy to be following it might have been near he just kept those tyres a bit warmer and it's got the jump on the restart but you're seeing how close these cars are and fletcher is now all over the back of bala and it's going to be eyes in the front side and back of your head for the next 10 minutes i think for a lot of these guys kelvin was looking pretty quick actually in qualifying and practice yesterday and look he's right on the tail now of the number one barwell motorsport lamborghini neither surviving barwell motorsport well the surviving lamborghini full stop uh in the race being driven at the moment by adam ballen sandy mitchell the reigning champion will take over the number one car later but what position will it be in it's defending fourth place at the moment as the loggy train starts to develop niri's getting away second third fourth fifth sixth seventh and eighth place basically the rest of the gt3 field all stacked up behind the ram racing mercedes which isn't slow and ian lockheed isn't slow but i think he's just driving on the mirrors a bit at the moment doesn't he yeah definitely it's so hard like you're losing to once you lose one position to refocus and get into your rhythm he's been on pole so he knows he can be quick he's now just got to harness that and again the ever the flow of these cars it's easy to forget that all of these cars generate their laptop in such a different way an sro do it honestly i'm not being sarcastic because it's a brilliant job to balance the performance and making these cars fast how can you ever imagine a bentley the same pace as a mclaren it's not possible but here it is and but those cars would generate their lap time in a different way the bentley's the quickest at the end of the street it's the worst traction so they've all got to work out where their sort of nuances are and attack on the weakness of their uh their enemies basically and that is exactly what i love about gt racing because these are the cars that you aspire to own one day and uh they look amazing they sound amazing the racing as you can see is as close as anything uh and it's all really really well run by uh sro it has to be said right gt4 this is more like we've got a bmw fighting for the lead i was wondering how long it would take us to see this that is the 57 car up into second place now then that car was started by will burns he's moved ahead of will moore and he's got john ferguson in the toyota ahead of him and this is all as tight as you like it down the exhibition straight they go towards the braking zone at the chicane the mclaren there uh just peeking out of line that was jordan collard in the number two car as we ride on board with the mustang side by side for the gt4 lead though and on the inside line goes the bmw then and it looks as though will burns is going to take the gt4 lead away from john ferguson he does and the bmw then moves ahead of the number 15 car we ride again on board with the toyota this time that's just lost that lead position as it makes its way up towards the hair big good move that the bmw just quicker off the chicane yeah i got a great drive off the corner you see a bit of damage on that toyota didn't see that before so i wanted the mustangs just eating it and they go through a bit of a rallycross moment giving jordan collard a run he's on the outside into redgate but he looks a long way past and actually i think he's gonna be fully clear and now we're seeing harry hayek on the attack as well as that mustangs lost two places and not even a corner which only was straight so that was quite bad um but yeah that toyota just doesn't quite seem to have the pace almost a similar story of loggie really was in the lead has lost that place and then the new leader this time in the bmw's starting to pull away dear wilmore with a huge twitch there through the crater curves the rear trim of the toyota falls off right in the middle of the road absolutely perfect but at least that means that they're not gonna get called in by the race officials to get it repaired that though is gonna need to be retrieved i don't think they'll want to leave it where it is and well you know what that might mean worth pointing out as well john ferguson is an am surrounded by silver graded drivers right now so you would kind of expect the toyota in second place to maybe struggle a bit in this part of the race but in the second half they can stick their pro driver in the silver cup entrance have to spend this extra 26 seconds in the pit lane the toyota has no success pedal or has a 10 second success penalty excuse me but i do think this car will be back in contention again later on yeah so the net 16 seconds up so as long as john keeps within 16 seconds of the leaders as we see him as a an aggressive bizarre defense there on collard and this is going to start bunching up and i think kayak has actually hit the back of collard you can see a little bit of damage on the front i mean hitting teammates is always fun but that's a lot of race left to do yeah this is definitely going to start bunching them up and you see that the positive of that toyota for me was its traction how well it pulled away as we go on board i think we're not going to see much blinking here from john ferguson he's going to be looking all in those mirrors working out his next plan you can see his radio plugged in i'm sure the team are belching orders at him how to hold on to that position but this is getting super exciting is that helpful for an am to be sort of given that amount of of detailed encouragement should we say or advice from the team or can it be a distraction depends who you ask when i'm saying it to them it's super important and beneficial and if you're the am listening to me then it's not it's you have to really be careful everybody's different some arms only want to be spoken to nearly his own body work they're not very good only on the straight some can be spoken to all the time but yeah you really have to be careful too much information can be a bit costly to see jordan really swarming all over the back of him here i think his best chance is at the end of the straight to be honest that toyota's a big old lump punching a good old hole through the as you see harry hayek on the front foot as we've got another safety card just flashing through so these guys will be getting told that over the radio and we see the marshals displaying the safety car board shortly just saw a yellow flag there so yeah stop overtaking and back to single file racing so i think that is probably for that bit of bodywork at old hairpins that'll be super quick a uh a marshall will nominate himself for 150 meter dash to go and grab that and we'll be back um i think we're going to get a replay i'm just seeing i think actually the debris has been hit a few times potentially so although it's not the biggest bit it's probably only plastic as well it'd still be five or six kilos and hitting that so richard near he's really panicked and gone the wrong way then everyone else has done it stewart sort of blindsided ballon into hitting it and uh i think the cards will be okay but then that's giving fletcher a run and he's got past balance so yeah he knew a bit of plastic trim from japan would uh cause so much drama uh yeah so that's interesting then i hadn't spotted that but you're right kelvin fletcher into fourth place now then in the paddock motorsport bentley they'll be very very happy with that right the geneta is in the garage we know mark samson brought a very damaged number 56 car in and bring can tell us more yeah a very damaged 56 and i think a very damaged mark as well mark what happened uh yeah really disappointing uh navigated obviously the first saved car incident and then the restart um there was already things kicking off frankly the first start and the second start so it's pretty sort of celtic race opening but i'd come to all of that unscathed uh the second restart uh lost a couple of places down the street we're struggling a bit with the weight we're required to carry this weekend so it's always gonna be difficult to hold people off but actually then getting the place back can we have the old hairpin up the hill when the aston ran wide onto the grass and then going into mclean's at the top of the hill uh took what i thought to be a fully defensive line hard to the right zero space in my right as far as i was concerned and then saw mighty thump from the second bmw on my rear three quarters which is caved in the right rear wheel structure um enormous here actually made the radio fitting fly off inside the car unfortunately i think then the green mclaren got caught up in the incident as well i'm not sure whether they already had an issue but um they said that's unfortunate for them um and just feels unnecessary you know the first five minutes were two hour race and just bumper cars out there holy unnecessarily um so i'm obviously pretty you know annoyed um but obviously that you know the students have got a better view of all the day to have a look at it and see what they think well plus side you've got some good pace in this currently hopefully we see you out in spa soon thank you very much you they're going to be inspired so look forward to that right then let's try this again again again as we get the wreath restarted once more with still just over an hour and a half to go the nearly two second lead that richard neary had built up over here and logging vanishes and this is an opportunity now for loggia i think to just calm everything down reassess the situation let's see whether or not he can stay with neary this time for second in gt4 though this is picked up exactly where it left off with jordan collard trying to get up the inside of john ferguson side by side through hollywood the mclaren versus the toyota the track goes left next but then right down at the bottom of the hill at the old haven conference and fend him off you can john ferguson is a feisty racer we've always known this and he wasn't letting jordan call up through there despite the fact that arguably jordan does look quicker yeah definitely looks quicker in every aspect apart from he's behind the slower car so you i think jordan potentially getting a little bit sort of desperate to get past he's seeing that bmw go up the road you really just need to save up one attack a lap if you keep doing lots of little looks just doesn't work and you lose your own rhythm and you can see that almost in regard of harry hayek being all over the back of him as i say that the mustangs all over the back of of of harry so yeah i think as i said i think the mclaren seems strong at the end of the straight so you just need to save up and have a proper look rather than lots of little ones and it's even when you always see kelvin down the inside of stuart proctor both leaving space i think it's going to be a drag race those students on the outside the clown's got the drag and now has the inside is actually clear of the bentley but the bentley switches back on him has another look oh my god we don't know where to go i need more than two eyes at the moment and it has got pastor jordan's got past harry hayek trying to follow through but he's on the outside see that toyota so much talk up the hill there jordan has gone the defensive harry's now on the outside really left space where they try to ease him out i think it was the latter option oh and the mustang's been caught up and i think harry hayek has been hit pretty hard in terms of all the smoke the mustang might be able to get going again but um the toyota's damaged leaking fluid everywhere i've got nothing to say everyone's an idiot i just i've never seen anything like this in my life so the toyota is out the mustang is in the wall the harry hayek mclaren is getting going but i'd be surprised if it's undamaged harry hayek let's see what it gets back on the road isn't it suspension so right okay well we know what's coming next don't we there's gonna be a safety car surely because at the moment we'll i know bill moore is getting going again there's a lot of damage to the right front court there's damage to the left fluid come out of this toyota i mean the teams need to be on the radio now a warning of it is obviously got suspension damage without staying there quite obvious but i did see a lot of fluid leaking or have a radiator in that corner i would have thought to cool it down wilmore is out so he's parked in a good place to be fair to him he's doing a good job but i think we need to be careful of this fluid it's obviously starting on the start finish line so the driver's engineer is first to it is going to see a lot of fluid into term one so let's see what happens sitting back and getting the popcorn ready yes while the leaders are about to come into that potentially slippery area any moment now there is john ferguson going through the gravel and the grass because why not rejoining the circuit again because why not here come the leaders then on board with andrew howard then howard is in sixth place you have propped her ahead some sort of fluid on the road potentially through this first sector will it catch them out howard up the inside of proctor lovely move for fifth position at redgate corner and he's gonna be followed through by morgan tilburg who's only been racing for a couple of years but his racecraft is always really good and he's got past the similar mclaren right this is where we were a bit concerned and that's loggie really under pressure from calvin fletcher for second place no one flying off the road though so i think we might have got away with that joe yeah i think you're right we have double wave yellows at the top of crainers for harry hayek's car on the left-hand side it's one of those marginal ones if we need a safety car to recover it or potentially the race director they do have uh what's weirdly called live snatcher where they can't grab the car under a local yellow flag uh without the need for safety cars so personally i think we need to try and get a flow of this race going the problem is of safety cars it punches everyone up gives an opportunity to smash each other out the way and get more safety cars which at this point we've lost a third of the field just in crashes so the charge is still limping back i think it's kind of brave of him but they're not going to repair it it'd be better just to part out in a safe place and get home for the football yes i had heard that was on tonight andrew howard is showing us why he's a former champion here isn't he because this is a really good drive having a go now at adam ballon there was a bit of morse code being tapped i think on the right rear corner of the lamborghini but adam holds on to the place and andrew howard is now starting to march towards the front and the one thing you can always be and i shouldn't be saying this probably you can always be fairly sure with andrew he stays out of trouble he is a very measured driver is andrew howard he can race he can overtake he can be committed and aggressive when he has to be but a bit like you were saying about stuart proctor it's always calculated you don't often see andrew going for that sort of uh gung-ho move that's going to end in contact yeah yeah definitely he's been around for so many years now andrew's super super experiencing and he's won the championship so he knows how to do it i just don't think anyone's got it in their locker today to be uh to be sensible so you see how much time he's lost to balan though so he needs to just get his head back down concentrate on just churning out some decent sectors as we see that toyota get all the way back to the speed works guys and i think they've uh realized it's day done get the skates in and uh close the garage door so i think we're gonna get a replay of this coming out the last corner joey just got the inside but hayek's a long way in front they're both coming together will moore is fully innocent in that so it's really working out could the charity have left him a bit more space harry was in front [Music] it's racing instance with an essence of it being john ferguson's fault but he is an am it's not his day job so you can't go great on board here let's see it so he sees the mclaren there kind of just keeps driving into him he for me should have kept a bit of left hand down a little less throttle they could have both ran into turn one side by side and had another hour and a half of fun that's the thing there's 90 minutes left joe you don't need to be driving into people and forcing people on the grass when there are 90 minutes left and the people that are passing you are going to be in the pit lane for so much longer than you so this is part of what you as a pro driver for example would have to teach and am patience patience is really really important you don't need to win every battle because there's a bigger war to be fought and ultimately the total was still looking good yeah everything you say is correct the the only interesting dynamic is when you're a pro employed by the am you have to be careful how you choose your words and let's not forget these amateurs are normally super successful businessman so talking down to them is in this interesting dynamic and you can state the obvious but the heat the moment is not always the easiest way to go um it'll be interesting i think we've got an onboard from the 61 of will more so this will give us a great insight so you see harry on the right hand side and the grey rgm mclaren good gap he's he's in front and then yeah they're close but it's just for me the the toyota can hold an inside line and and wilmore's got no idea where he should be going he's even left quite a bit of space but the toyota after the initial impact shoots left and wipes them out you see that front right that's a super sad looking car yes it is and they have had a bit of a season to forget actually by their standards really academy are a good team the mustang we know is a good car but they they didn't finish at brands hatch they didn't score very many points at silverstone either and that should have been a decent track for the ford mustang you'd have thought likewise here at donington but uh bad luck unfortunately and it really was bad look for wilmore you can debate whether the initial contact was ferguson or hayek's fault or whatever but wilmore had no part to play in that he was just wrong place wrong time right back to gt3 then richard theory leading by 3.2 seconds but ian loggie sets the fastest lap so now he's broken away from fletcher and balon he's calmed himself down he's got that clear air he's showing the pace that we always knew that he had yeah definitely he's only three seconds behind richard neary so if he can keep this pace going and it it might not actually be the drivers let's take some credit away from them it could be the cargo tyre pressures are a huge thing the nearest might have started them a bit higher and that turns the tire on as it gets the grip earlier on because they were so far back on the grid they would have wanted a fast car at the start of the slip most likely whereas loggie being on pole would have wanted a an even car probably coming on at this point to the end of the stick so it could be that the cars are now just changing dynamics and we might see a bit more of an ebitda flow the other way let go to all the other cars as well the tire pressures are such an important thing they are allowed tire ovens but start the race you'll sat on the grid for 10-15 minutes and you probably lose a third of that so it takes a while to build that energy back into the car fastest of all of the leading three cars on this lap though is the car that's just gone out of shot the paddock motorsport bentley of kelvin fletcher uh with a purple middle sector faster than anyone's been so far this race and tracking to take a good half a second i reckon out of the leading two on this lap so the bentley is closing in on the mercedes which is closing in on the other mercedes so this is building up quite nicely there is uh stewart propter in seventh with nick jones in the team parker racing porsche behind they'll have that contact at the start of the race with plenty of contact since then and uh will moore was involved in some of it he's down in the pit lane now with brooklyn [Music] and well i know you're very dejected but that's very frustrating we've seen so many cars dropping in this race so far yeah it's i think the you know the real fact of the matter is we're racing against the wrong people the way the championship's set up at the moment um you know the ans have got better equipment you know than the pros in terms of the balance um you know we're racing against the wrong people for fighting you know qualifying says it all really we were hoping to show you the the uh the live stream on the replay but your team have turned your screens off so i think that they're packing up and ready to go home because of football but um from your point of view what happened we might not play the pictures out while you're telling us i just got a nice run out of the last corner to go up the inside i can see the toyota and mclaren we're dicing we've got a really nice run up the inside and i think they've came come together and one of them inspired each other into me and i was just a passenger at that point what's going on why are we seeing so many incidents in this race i can say i think you know i think the the drivers have got better equipment in terms of you know the weight in the car and the balancing at the moment but we've seen that quite a few times haven't we we don't often see it like this donington sees you bringing out the best or the worst in people it it shouldn't be like this i mean seven cars out in the first sort of 20 minutes is you know driving standards obviously need to be addressed but yeah it's just disappointing for the team you know we've not had much luck this season thank you very much indeed anyway well done uh they both make good points uh the ams are obviously fired up they've got cars that are working well bryn also makes a good point though that this is nothing new you know the this is the dynamic this championship has always had for the other two races we've had this year uh it's been uh you know the same similar b.o.p it gets tweaked as we go through but similar uh so uh i just think everyone's a little bit giddy today oh man i don't know whether that other sport people keep talking about has something to do with it but there is a certain extra hype and a bit of an overdose of adrenaline going on out there isn't it so it's obviously when it's closer with qualifying like that it's always going to ensue that way so it's it's potentially just circumstances mixed with a a bit of the enthusiasm is probably the kindest word i use and it's just gone there but i generally never seen a race like this so we now need to settle into a rhythm and work out where we're gonna go there's obviously a lot fewer cars left so traffic's not going to be so much of a problem um and then we're just gonna go from there but we are seeing neary losing a little bit now he's also three or four tens over the last couple of laps to logging so if that can start to get in that's going to be an interesting race before they pick in 25 minutes now this car car number 9 chris sulkeld has a 10 second stop go penalty for causing a collision i'm not sure which one but uh the number nine car looks like the cleanest car out there actually i can't see any damage on it but it's been involved in some contact and chris salkill i'm afraid it's going to be uh handed a 10 second penalty as a result so the only thing i can think because we've seen so much action is that the gt4 crusher happened that mclean's early on that took out topham marshall with jeanetta and the rjn mclaren who never saw the sort of catalyst that i haven't seen anywhere else he could have been involved to be honest but yeah i think um yeah the other thing i've just sort of noticed we haven't had any track limit warnings yet i actually thought that was going to be the flavor of the race uh so over the stint each hour you get five five warnings before a penalty uh and it's quite easy to pick up around here at donington we haven't had any warnings yet so hopefully it continues that way but that will be another dynamic to add into the mixing pot normally when the pros get in because they kind of take the mickey a little bit more if with the rules and the arms are a little bit more polite but uh yeah i think that's another thing that we need to kind of keep an eye on definitely uh also that battle there which was developing between andrew howard aboard until because chris sulkel comes into the pits to serve the 10 second stop go penalty there you can see being directed into the stop go penalty box and so he's going to be drawn and become the first car still running to go a lap down within uh the field as the gt3 and overall leaders come through now so on board with morgan tilgruck then a driver who's only been racing for about two years full stop and here he is in british gt in a mclaren running now in the lead pack and uh looking like he's got the measure of andrew howard and that is pretty impressive yeah when you look at the of him but andrew had former champion adam balon current champion and calvin fletcher from emmerdale he's got to be pretty happy in his first year of gt3 uh it's obviously a car and nowhere and actually that car is one of our old development cars at mclaren so it's the first 720 i ever drove so he's blessed to have that one after i've touched it and you can see in his style that he's super smooth and i think he's gonna find a way past howard he's a couple of links behind at the moment but over the course of the lap he seems to be a little bit quicker and he's just got to find his way through but getting past andrew howard is no easy task by uh by any stretch of imagination no not at all at the front of the field by the way ian loggie was a full second quicker than richard neary last time two reasons for that one it was a quick lap by logging in fact the fastest of the race so far it was also quite a slow one for neri about eight tenths of his previous best so richard may have had a moment ian's really hooked together a good lap and the gap is down now under three seconds again as here adam ballen closing back in on kelvin fletcher a couple of laps ago fletcher was catching the leaders now he's starting to slip back it is fascinating to watch how the balance of these cars is changing as we go through and kelvin may be starting to overdrive now runs a bit wide at the final corner balan on the inside two more different cars you couldn't hope to find and then neck and neck across the start finish line bentley to the inside balance to the outside will he try and [ __ ] up the inside under breaking he does not probably sensible because that bentley is not gonna be an easy car to pass you sense it might come down to a mistake from fletcher rather than a move from balance you know catching traffic at the wrong point as they get the gt4 mercedes giving him the space adam's probably been a little bit more cautious actually than uh than fletcher in that instance and then needs to go again as we see howard until we're getting caught up with it as well and it's it's actually a shame that there isn't more gt4s involved in terms of that sort of making it a bit more dynamic the multi-class element is always wicked and yeah i think you've called it right i think fletcher's on the board of over driving here adam allen's going to be rubbing his long hair in delight at this and uh i know he actually got a warning from race control he's going to tuck his hair into his race suit and that's not a cool thing to be told as a racing driver i don't know what is that's definitely a new one to me he says drop back all of a sudden though from calvin fletcher as you said that traffic may be playing a part in that weird how these gaps keep ebbing and flowing one lap one car is significantly quicker than the one ahead and then they seem to drop back again but uh uh possibly just uh playing into that sort of disjointed feel this race has had really struggling to get into a rhythm that's the number 40 mclaren which really delays calvin fletcher out of the hairpin he now does get alongside the number 40 car there as it heads up the hill that was nick holstead in the fox motorsport mclaren but that allows fallon to close and ultimately get up the inside properly this time coming out i've got off the lamborghini has good traction the bentley has good grunt in a straight line though and apparently finds decent grip on the grass too because he's pulling back ahead now is fletcher and he's got the inside line for redgate corner balance will he brave it on the outside no instead tries to cut back to the late apex but kelvin places the car well there he just delayed getting on the throttle on the exit just to cover off that switchback for someone who hasn't really been racing for that long hell but i know he's got a few years under his belt now he displays and always has displayed really really good racecraft he understands where to put the car both when attacking and defending yeah that was brilliant i mean the the cut back by balan was the obvious move for him to do but for them for fletcher to read that in obviously tenths of a second and cover it off because what he should have done uh by being fast is get on the throttle drive the car out the corner and leave that inside gap open as you said he just checked up and it just stopped the momentum of balance so he had to get out the throttle and it stopped that gap sort of disappearing and potentially losing a place so really really well it sometimes looks easy from the outside but when you're in the heat of the battle that the time you've got to make that decision is so so small uh it's easy to get overlooked and lose a position and suddenly you'll be defending from andrew howard and before you know it he's he's all the way down in sixth place and johnny adam's got a lot a lot more work to do that shot there really shows the gap coming down well over two seconds now between the two mercedes and i think loggies has really really got his uh sights firmly set on getting first place back back alongside fletcher here for third but we know the bentley's gonna be better at the end of the straight now this time might ballon try and go to the inside he does have a look he's later on the brakes but not quite late enough fletcher left him room though just in case and that he's gonna compromise kelvin's exit balance on the inside through hollywood but again the bentley as it goes through the gears just edges back ahead again and andrew howard probably wants to get involved in this but i'm not convinced that's the best idea if i were andrew i'd just sit there and let this play out because again they are going side by side the bentley is really struggling mid-corner isn't it yeah again it's the balance of performance where the cars were that bentley is probably the slowest uh out of the corner but the quickest at the end so you've got that awkward crossover point and that's what we're seeing that lambo can get alongside but by the time we get to england straight the bentley has refounded sort of pace and was as strong again the aston interesting is kind of in the middle of both of them so it's not long enough left in the stint but we had another 20 minutes on top i'd probably say to balance to let howard go through and follow him through on the bench because i just don't think the lambo is strong enough in any one area to get past him it seems like turn one but definitely he already has two or three lengths of time they hit the break so it's going to be that or traffic and balance definitely looking racy he's he's showing intent and willing he's just got to kind of convert it into an actual move now it's nice to see from adam though because that wasn't always the way with balan uh sometimes when it came to wheel-to-wheel battles he would not always come out on top but uh definitely getting stuck in here again he takes that tighter line out of goddard looks great for him here but the next corner is a right-hander and the bentley just pulls that length or so as you say but ballon is closer this time might have a more concerted go on the inside he does again fletcher leaves him room but fletcher can leave him room because he knows he's going to come off the corner better or get up to speed better anyway once he gets off the corner and look at the gap he's pulled on ballon now that wider line through redgate gave him the momentum out of the turn uh and then balan's not close but when you get to the next braking zone yeah i mean that that bentley can always drive it like a nascar through terminal he's like taking a high line leaving that inside which kind of lets balance dive bomb him if he wants but he still gets the drive out of it and again we're seeing the sort of slight indecisiveness from the car behind in regards of showing its nose too easy and it then just confuses the driver in front i always find it's better to be black or white it's almost surprising with the overtake rather than showing five or six times of that an intent to overtake save it up and a real strike when the iron's cold in that way absolutely so back through the chicane again on board with andrew howard using all of the curve the pirelli rubber being given some real punishments as it rattles over those sausage curves on the inside of both apexes of the chicane there is andrew hard at work uh his face full of concentration as he focuses on the back of the lamborghini ahead of him and makes his way back up towards the top of the hill and goddard's corner the leaders are about to cross the start finish line the gap going back out again now uh between neary and loggie look it was a couple of tents quicker that time but uh nearly a second slower on the previous lap that is the race leading gt4 bmw being put a lap down now that's will burns uh in the lead and he stays nicely out of the way of fletcher and ballot you see the rarest thing ever in automotive world with bmw of his indicator on so it's always great to see a gt4 driver of so much mental capacity to be able to show the gt3 cars that he's staying to the left in that regard and getting out of the way i've been fortunate enough to drive in both classes and i know how it works both ways and if you and the gt4 can make it more obvious you lose less time so might seem counterproductive in terms of getting out of the way but they are going to overtake at some point in the gt3 so if you make their life easier and they don't force you off the road you're only going to lose a few tenths rather than a few seconds and likewise in the gt3 almost horrible to say but you get used to the good guys and the bad guys and when you get a bad guy in a gt4 you have to be harsh on them and even push them off the track to make sure they're out the way whereas the kind of guys you're more sort of lenient to and you're not so much of an idiot towards them the psychologies of racing drivers always fascinate me and the thought processes that you go through uh in the uh out there on track and so many things being thrown your way uh it's such a short space of time and the decision-making process has to be quick that is nick jones around i'm afraid at the chicane the team parker racing porsche was running in eighth position it was the last of the gt3 cars still running 5.2 seconds behind anybody else so i'm not sure whether he's tangled with that mark or done that by himself uh either way let's hope he gets the car fired up he does and gets back underway a race that promised so much for the uh team parker squad and he's just not going to deliver it yeah i think i work for mclaren but i don't think the mclarens hits him there i think that's a bump on the right-hand curb and it's almost kind of there they've left the bump on purpose now because if you cut the corner too much you hit this bump and the paw is where the engine is i think it's just like a pendulum it sat down and then sprung up and he's then just had a big old tank slapper and it sent him round so unfortunately for nick i think that's just him learning the car around donald park yeah such a shame for team parker really because as i said this was a race that promised a lot they've had their best qualifying effort yet with the car they got into third into turn one challenging per second and then the second they had that contact with argo it's just been downhill from there and uh they're gonna need another safety car now for scott mulvane to have any chance in the second stint of the race to get back into it we're not a million miles away actually about 10 minutes now from the pit window opening for the gt3 cars the ams will get out the pros will get in and uh we'll see then if the dynamics change at the front of the field certainly calvin fletcher uh he has been one of the quickest am drivers here this weekend the same cannot necessarily be said about martin plowman amongst the pros this car is running well now and if you're adam balon do you have that in the back of your mind that maybe you just leave this to sandy mitch while he's trying to do something about it himself as he again gets alongside has his nose almost ahead as they cross the start finish line they were thirty three one one thousandth of a second apart at that time and this time balan is still fully alongside by the time they get to redgate so every time he tries that joe he's getting further and further level and and staying there a bit better so tires going away on the bentley maybe here just helping the lamborghini keep up out of the corners yeah i think you're definitely right on that and i think ballon d'or oh that's a problem with the ballon d'or he gets to the door but then no further and he's stuck in that awkward limbo and he's actually perfectly sat in the blind spot of the bentley so he's getting to a really awkward predicament i think he needs a new move that's not worked the outside so he almost just needs to stay behind him and look at probably just trying to get to the inside because there's there's no way that that moves gonna work anymore i don't think and as you alluded to the tyres going off on the bentley's probably gonna open up another chance i think coming out of the first hairpin so we've got the chicane then we've got the first heaven after that corner i think there's a superior attraction on the lamborghini comes more prominent he's got a chance there into the last corner but yeah as you said ten minutes left he probably rates phil uh sorry as an old teammate was awkward like an old girlfriend uh when sandy mitchell gets in he probably fancies him over plain one but they do have that 20 second penalty to worry about as well so there's a lot going on in his world right now yes forgot about that the number one car 20 second success penalty the 63 car doesn't matter because it's out of the race and the 10 second penalty goes play of the number six car in second place which again is within two seconds of the lead again we're side by side he's not listening to you he keeps trying this outside line you'd think maybe you could dive back to the inside again into um redgate corner uh but he just doesn't seem to want to uh seem to want to to take that particular risk at the moment and the bentley is always just going to be that length or so further ahead because it is traditionally the fastest car uh in the speed traps and indeed yeah kelvin fletcher has set the fastest speed in the speed traps uh here as well this weekend so no wonder therefore that fallon is struggling to find a way through here big bentley fills the track as well and uh kelvin fletcher as we've said knows where to place it good to see them running well they ran well actually at silverstone for a period and then they they also had an issue which unfortunately saw martin plowman stop out on track an engine problem uh which put them out of contention ultimately they managed to salvage a couple of points from it or a point and a half i think it was but um maybe just maybe this weekend i think we're gonna have a few redemption stories out of stage race because actually a lot of the people that have run into trouble are the ones that have had good seasons so far yeah and that sort of opens it up for the guys who haven't had a strong here so from a jumping perspective it's really spiced up this first part of the race with how bad everyone's been so it's it's good for us in the long term um as we've kind of seen a bit more of andrew howard coming and unfortunately milgan took morgan tillbooks or he's dropped off a little bit so it's really a three-car battle and i think if baloney needed to make this move done he needs to be on the inside of that last corner and just needs to leave his car there and let kelvin turn into him that would break traction on that bentley and give him a better run into this first corner but they all they are being super clean and super polite at the moment and i think you know with such little time left of this stint they can box in the next 10 minutes that's probably now where this is gonna sit i think yeah i don't see anywhere else really that fallon could try this move and uh the movie keeps trying as you've said isn't really working on board with howard he didn't exactly make friends with the apex there through the old hairpin just you could see the momentum that leaves you if you mess up the old hairpin it's a long way up to mclean's and it's as quite a steep hill you're climbing so that is probably for a lap time one of the most important corners on the track [Music] [Music] he will just work away at that over the weekend as he really gets down inside he needs to rotate that car go you can see him leaving a big set of 11 so he definitely went and now hold fletcher to the inside and do like a cut back in the next corner i don't see that working oh maybe yeah maybe he's done it he's gone through it i saw that working i don't know if there's a bit of contact there because you see the bentley just have a little twitch it might not have been aided but he's made that work really really well after i said the complete option you telegraph that one well joe so uh into third place goes adam allen saw the chance well he created the chance really it was a it was a bold move and i have noticed that every time balance shows his nose fletcher leaves him room and i think maybe adam had realized that and thought well if i really show my nose he might just sidestep out the way and i actually think that's what happened so balon goes through now he's got to get away though because if he leaves himself vulnerable at the end of the straights the bentley could come back at him he is starting though to build a little bit of a gap we're gonna see a replay of the overtake then joe talk us through it so he's dived down to the entire i thought it wasn't on because of the gap behind and i think it is clean i think the bentley has his own moment on its rotation he'll be training the brakes in and the front of the car so we'll see andrew howard it's hard to say that the aston martin windscreen wipers protects any modesty of balan potentially being guilty there but a great great move nonetheless because it's done and he's got no damage on his car to show that he was wrong so he's now got 10 minutes to get his head down and let's see what pace he did have as we see that markers getting involved with the leader again you know how he said morgan tilburg wasn't really keeping pace with those ahead of him they just said the fastest lap 129.132 so that mclaren coming on strong as well and we know how good more uh marcus clutton is and he will jump into that car well it's sixth at the moment it will gain probably a position or two because of other people's penalties so that is going to be an interesting dynamic into the second half the race so is this as well ian logging back within a second and a half of richard neary it is odd the way the gap grew then shrank then grew again and now it's shrinking once more as we get right towards the end of the entire life on these uh pirellis now and ian loggie is starting to close back in now remember loggie has this 10 second penalty success penalty to serve as uh there andrew howard almost got himself ahead of calvin fletcher this is the next battle watch isn't it but just thinking ahead to the ram pit stop they're nearly nearly 10 seconds ahead of ballon but ballon has a 20-second success penalty so there's a chance here that yelmer berman could still come out with second place yeah and that'll be huge with the pros are gonna be so tight on pace that if they do get stuck behind one another it's gonna be so difficult to make that move work and yeah i think we're gonna see a really interesting last few that's actually as i got everything wrong not thinking it's going to change i think i think howard looks super strong here against fletcher and as you said morgan tilburg is flying the fastest lap of the race and we're so lucky to have all this timing in front of us and we can see these sectors and it is actually quite close to near and lobby in all the sectors it just looks like log has potentially got the sort of upper hand in the first sector uh so the interest to see if that's the same when the pros get in those cars now you were uh alluding to the fact earlier on that andrew howard might have an easier time passing calvin fletcher than adam ballen was going to have uh well let's see if that was true because howard is right on the tail of the bentley which does not like that final quarter at all and again fletcher is wide now we've seen ballon try this move against fletcher um dean times but the aston martin a bit better in a straight line might just be able to do it howard is crowding fletcher to the inside tightening his angle into the corner fletcher surely is going to go deep and howard t's up the switchback nothing fletch you could do that time and howard is on the inside now through hollywood side by side for fourth place the aston martin is gonna go ahead i think and calvin fletcher eventually realized he was beaten that was a textbook switchback maneuver really really good super aggressive from andrew howe squeezing them as you said down into redgate that was really really good then got the cut back down perfectly i thought fletcher did a good job of covering it but just not quite as much and the extra talk of the aston versus the lambo meant that it was a done deer and off he goes and this has been an interesting for morgan tilbury because he would have seen fallon and then howard behind fletcher realizing where they've got past so the interesting civilian adopts the same sort of approach and real hustle into that last quarter that bentley looks awful in that last corner it looks such hard work as the gt4 pit window opens and that's obviously the gt4 mercedes and it's great to see the sort of sister cars are run here obviously the mercedes is the same car just toned down in gt4 and their minimum pit stop being 140 seconds they've got plenty of time to do everything safely yes and that's a good point actually there's a reason and i didn't know this until i asked you before that the gt4 minimum pit stop time is 140 seconds 30 seconds longer than the gt3 minimum pit stop time and it's because of the the time it takes for james tyres exactly so you see the century guys working there they're five stud wheel nuts which predominantly all road cars are and they just take longer than the gt3s which are a center lock as we see morgan to look down the inside potentially a little bit too far back what's fletcher doing he's going wide he's got the inside he has his own moment doesn't quite get the power down and i kind of stayed as quote as they leave that corner that that moves coming as well and i think that is the area it's happening is turn on that bentley seems to sort of accommodate all its issues into into one corner there so yeah back to the pit stops it's just to keep the safety up so the gt4s don't have to rush quite as much uh the mclaren g2 actually does have a center locking will not never really understand how we push that through the rules but it doesn't mean the mclaren gt4 has an easier pit stop time it's no faster but just easier so uh yeah we're gonna see every car change tyres everyone that's an hour out of these pirelli sticks they're wicked but they do drop off so everyone will want fresh tires for their pros now the 57th century motorsport bmw here of will burns has a nearly 10 second lead over jordan collard uh they are both silver cook cars as well so their pit stop lengths should be identical neither of them have a success penalty to serve so expect that gap to be pretty constant after the pit stop as well there is the number 40 fox motorsport car of nick halstead he is pitted we saw the uh mercedes in as well jake giddings now has taken over the 25 car and uh i think yes the number nine bmw came in as well salt hanging over to andrew gordon colebrook back to the scrap then for fifth position calvin fletcher hanging on admirably on in a car that doesn't really appear to want to go around any of the corners uh on a circuit that really is all about carrying momentum through the corners and uh actually on that occasion until but not able to get within striking ranger redgate now it looks less larry for fletcher that time so obviously he's going to be trying to adapt his style at that last corner to make it more drivable but it's difficult when a car was potentially good in qualifying looking at his pace and as the tyre drops off the characteristics changes that gap is evaporated isn't it 1.1 seconds over the line last time logging with the uh it's always when you flush your headlights as a driver it feels really empowering and the right thing to do but when you see it from the outside it just makes you look like a bit of an aggressive [ __ ] doesn't it but it does get in the psyche of the driver in front and is worth a go um so you might as well keep going with it he's probably got two more laps before the gt3s can pit uh and that's going to be his time to really stamp his mark on this race yes that's that's the thing isn't it we're heading towards pit stops now for gt3s in fact already nick jones is in to hand over the team parker racing car to scott mulvane so i expect these two in this lap to be honest neri and loggie uh and then remember the number six mercedes in second has this 10 second success penalty to serve in welcome neary in surely we'll come loggy as well uh does he does he does he yes he must have done so near he pits early loggie is a bit further down the pit lane success penalties joe one of the the comments that i see and i'm sure that the youtube comment section is filling up with these sort of remarks already why do we have success penalties i like them i really think it adds an extra dynamic especially to the second half of the race but for a lot of people out there it does seem odd to penalize those that have done well at the previous race so what's your take on it i hate them it's pointless it's um i don't like it it's always like sports day everyone gets to win these days it keeps the championship alive right so if someone is on a good run and maybe a bop is a bit open for one particular car it stops a runaway leader so it definitely adds a dynamic and listen all major championships have a success penalty outside f1 so it's it's not rare and it it's something that's set to stay so we kind of got to get used to it it just means as a driver when you do win you're kind of like yay and nay in equal measures because you know the pain is going to be there at the next race so uh yeah it's a hard one and the penalties are trimmed it used to be weight in british gt we went to time and i do prefer time because it's a physical measure it's not hurting your lap time or performance uh over a lap as we see the driver change going on it's great to see the inside so johnny adam getting in five point harness so he gets the buckle between his legs up around his space hoppers that belt's done and then he'll plug his shoulder belts in over his hands device tighten them andrew howard doing the window net for him thumbs up just make catching a bit and then they'll drop down and they'll be released and they'll be counted down to the exit line to make sure they don't go under that minimum pit stop time that's an important point as well minimum pit stop time is from the pit entry line to the pit exit line it's not the stationary time is it so there's an element of judging that and that's something the teams will practice throughout the two free practice sessions they have two hours of practice on the saturday and they can see sam neary now in the number eight car hopefully having time to pit stop correctly because he's going to come out with in theory about a 10 second lead but over who is going to be very very close it's just about yelmer berman ahead of johnny adam but only just that's kind of what i expected though he was about 10 and a half seconds ahead of adam and their pit stop was 10 seconds longer martin plowman comes out fourth and marcus club in fifth so that is your battle at the front of the gt3 field now what sort of pace does sam neary have he has been telling me all season long he's as quick as yama berman well uh sam when he weigh him out this time yep definitely i think uh both of them look like they're on used tires so it should be an even fight there's an allocation of new tyres over the weekend so you'll have four sets you can use them how you want some guys will use them all up in qualifying maybe a set in practice to get the ams eye in but ideally you really want to save a new set for your pro stint so you can get out there new tires you the first lap is half a second quicker then it would drop off a bit then you've got probably three or four laps where you'd gain two or three seconds over those laps and then it plateaus so it is a benefit having that sort of time in the pocket potentially up to three seconds and it'd be interesting to see if any of these guys have managed to save a new set uh the easiest way to spot it is that when they're leaving they're shiny and have a sticker on them and that's why the americans are quite simply just calling them stickers because that's what they look like uh yes indeed so the dynamics then change again now marcus clinton into the enduro motorsport mclaren martin plowman into the bentley run by martin and kelvin fletcher's own team these days paddock motorsport taking over from jrm and immediately plumbing is having to start driving defensively and this does the tyres no good either you know the more you have to defend in the early part of the stint the more you're then going to feel that pain later on so for a car that already is working the tyres quite hard this is not ideal for plowing them yeah definitely it's even worse early on when the tire is kind of fresh i if you grain the tire that stays there for the life of it so as you alluded to when you defend you're narrowing the corner so you need more steering to get around the energy then needs to be in the tire yeah he's he's got a long hour ahead of him unfortunately i think martin flower and that car really not suited to sector three here and i think marcus has got some sort of pent-up rage from silverstone from that mistake he made to get a good result for the team yeah he was talking to me after silverstone actually he is so determined to make sure that he makes amends for his mistake as he puts it at silverstone uh right in have come our gt4 leaders now will burns in the 57 car now the bmw will hand that over to gus burton and that is the number two car of james kell going out i think they pitted on different laps and that's not a change of position i think mclaren is gonna have to do another lap before the bmw comes out of the pit lane if that makes sense he joins just ahead of the team parker porsche now being driven by scott malvin who is in the low one minute 29 but then in fairness so were some of the quickest am drivers marcus clinton to the outside of ploughman into the hairpin at melbourne glam and runs wide mclaren has good traction on the exit could he clear him could he clear him yes he can marcus clutton then he's up into fourth position and already that bentley just seems to be struggling through these really tight corners and uh yeah i think that probably is the last that farmer will see if clutter yeah i think you're right it's now seeing what clutton can do with johnny adam it looked pretty similar pace between their respective abs uh so be interesting to see uh marcus was slightly quicker than johnny qualifying so did you see if that gap changes and we get a great view of those gaps and yellow bourbon is not that far up the road either so that's going to be interesting sam neary does have 12 seconds in the pocket so he's got a really nice stint ahead in terms of just managing his pace and not have to take any big risks yeah so sam neary leads them for team abba racing after 40 laps here in round number three of the intelligent money british gt championship 12.348 seconds exactly is the margin and he was four tenths quicker than yalma vermin on their first full flying lap berman is second in the number six ram racing mercedes then 2.3 seconds ahead of johnny adam in the number seven aston martin so that gap is going out berman quicker than johnny adam then it's 2.7 seconds back to marcus clinton in fourth now for enduro motorsport martin claum and fifth in the bentley eight and a half seconds ahead of stuart proctor who is uh sixth position in the uh motorsport um mclaren and it should be lewis brock at the time he's not changed over yet has it yeah you could hear the confusion in my voice so thank you for clearing that up let's just change now for you there we go they're listening to you joe then it is sandy mitchell now remember sandy mitchell had that 20-second success penalty or his team did so they've dropped out in seventh but sandy's just set the fastest lap and he's only 2.6 seconds behind lewis proctor yeah just seeing a three second stop go penalty for card 25 so that's givings in that one that's most probably a too shorter pit stop when it's a bit of a random number like that that is how much under the minimum pit stop window uh time they were so uh yeah and another random statue 43 of the cars are out of the race or in the pits so how's that for a bit of a scary number did you work that out yourself joe no i have to say a clever german just text me i would have been vitally impressed if you had uh so sam neary then is 100 in control of this race 12.3 seconds the gap it is not coming down immediately here but in the opening stint we did hypothesize that maybe the number 8 car is set up or to go well over a short run whereas perhaps the ram racing car will come on stronger later on but again that sort of makes sense they always knew they'd be having to dig themselves out of this 10 second success penalty hole that they were in and uh it looks as though maybe we'll have to wait a little bit longer to see the true pace of yelmer berman the true pace of marcus clinton though is immediately evident a 127 nearly a full second quicker than anyone else is going and look at the way he's reeled in johnny adam yeah purple sector one as well and half a second quicker in sector two so this is interesting uh uh marcus is super experienced he almost actually just needs to chill it a little bit keep a little bit of these ties he's got 50 minutes to go let's catch johnny adam up then get past him and then work on to yelmer i think he's on max attack at the moment you see the car darting and squirming around using every single uh percent of grip that tyre's got for him and yeah i think he's uh he's got a lot of pace it'd be interesting to see this mclaren aston martin battle to see where each car has got his strengths and his weaknesses i'd say the mclarens probably just got the edge in the mid corner but the aston martin teams have the top speed this weekend in the speed traps yeah this will be an interesting battle then and uh yeah you can see the car twitching around marcus is really really odd marcus has been around for quite a long time actually i first came across racing in the funk endurance championship in which he's one of the top drivers in what is a very competitive field though that's where he met morgan tilbury who started his racing career in the funko so they both have long distance racing experience and uh marcus as i was saying in silverstone a very underrated driver and uh looking now to make amends for what happened two weeks ago uh just a side note in gt4 by the way jake hittings will serve that three second penalty so he is back out in the uh number 25 uh car gods with sicily motorsport mercedes gt4 is being led by the way by gus burton uh in the 57 bmw so gus did indeed hold on to the lead over james kell in the number two rocket rjn mclaren um now jake gibbings was third but i having pitted now he will have dropped behind jamie stanley who might well be third now and andrew gordon colbrook in fourth place indeed the timing screen now starting uh to show that as the order yeah i love these onboard especially from mclaren which i know so well so you've seen this dash see the gear number four third might go to second for time one the rev lights go green yellow orange red all blue shift up and the cloud nicely if you over rev it it goes red again to just show you they've done a bad job they have his tire pressures out on the right hand side of the gear number so that's live so as a driver you know exactly where your tires are at it's pre-determined with your engineer you know what your optimal is if they go over you need to think about maybe chilling out and bringing them back down likewise if they're up there they need to man up a bit and get some more sense and yeah the steering was pretty busy so he's turning in well the car then on throttle just looks like it's rotating is what we're saying the rear actual just losing grip which is a positive because it gets rid of corner angle but he has worked the rear tire a little bit too hard potentially so he's looking good he's caught up to the aston now uh he'll be in what we call it is the dirty air you can see the big wing on that advantage in front and that's just creating so much turbulence as they get stuck behind a gt former car with james stanley and don't think he was quite close enough to get the run but that's what he's going to need to get that sort of pass done i think i did think that might be his chance because if there's any way you don't want to capture that mark around here i'd say the old hairpin is up there as the worst place so too the chicane and that's where they caught that latest one scott malvin is back in i haven't seen anything notifying us of a penalty for the porsche and no he's heading into the pit box rather than the penalty box did it sound right to you then as it came faster is it hard to tell on the speed limit i trust those yeah it didn't sound bad and it all looked square as in no problem but it's going straight on its skate so that's going in into the box and uh trying to just look at the team if they're looking at an area in particular uh i thought the pace was okay it wasn't amazing but it was amazingly slow but i can't see any marks on it but uh pace was absolutely fine um but uh the um yeah the team parker team will send bring lucas uh down there uh on the case to uh see what he can find from team parker uh brit apparently was just chatting to richard theory and he said richard you fancy an interview and richard said no curse of the commentator is is a strong thing isn't it and yeah i think richard doesn't need any more bad luck sending his way yeah yeah some people super superstitious and stupid so i'll let you decide on on that one and we've just seen the traffic flow again against marcus cotton this time and that gap has just opened up and i just wonder if marx is that being so much faster than everyone in front of him if he did have one of those new sets of tires at the start of the race which kind of got him up to the back of johnny adam but now as i said earlier they kind of plateau after the first four or five laps he's now just stuck in that limbo but they are both catching hillary berman and that gap is decreasing as well so this potential is going to be a three-car battle none of them are matching the pace of sam nearly so far as his lead extends and i think richard should be pretty safe to do an interview in the next 10 minutes so i think we should pressure him into it yes i i could absolutely understand his uh nerves though because uh so far this season it's been a remarkable season for the nearest it's always free practice too as well in the three weekends that we've had now they've always had an issue in the second free practice session the brand's hat richard went off into the barriers at silverstone he had pad knocker for went into the gravel and yesterday it was fp2 where he had his brake exposed stamina he had his brake explosion so uh i think the answer in the future is to not go out in fp2 because it's not really doing them a huge amount of good as it is gt4 there james kell here 10 and a half seconds behind gus burt and the gap is much the same as it was before the pit stops about to be caught though actually by the fight for sixth place overall sandy mitchell has caught louis propton out on the previous lap though was actually slower than lewis although traffic might have had something to do with that there you can see lewis flashing his lights he's called going out of the way we'll never know uh hopefully he saw him coming though as meanwhile the gt4 leader does not get out of the way of johnny adam yeah you can see literally that gap evaporating between the aston martin and the gt3 mclaren and the bmw did nothing wrong it was just bad timing and again it's just an illustration of the difference how they generate their lap time pretty much 10 seconds difference here over the lap between gt3 and gt4 and considering for me there's only really ten corners second to corner is quite a lot of time uh and it's given marcus a bit of impetus potentially to really get over the back of johnny again and almost push him up to yelmer as well and see what these guys can do 40 minutes left so there's there's plenty of life left in this race even if we haven't got many cars left yeah berman's less than two seconds ahead of these two now so adam doesn't really want to be defending here does he he wants to just have eyes forward focus on catching second place but uh marcus clinton's thinking well if i was ahead we'd catch him even quicker so uh it's an interesting one marcus could be tempted i guess just to leave johnny to it and follow him up to second place but i don't really think that's marcus's style yeah it's difficult she can't communicate especially when you're not teammates i think you you always just have to attack and hope for the best really you can sometimes play a long game and get too complicated and it doesn't work out so i think if an opportunity arises he will pounce on it and go from there i think it's just going to be this three-car battle really as you said that that leery avakai is so quick at the start of the stint no one is able to kind of keep with it but are we going to see what happened to richard in terms of logging reeling him in really with about 30 minutes off the stint gone the kind of tides changed at that point it's a very similar uh delta between those two cars at the moment as well it's about half a second the lap which is sort of what richard was taking out of ian loggie earlier on so yeah we might well see a result of that the difference is sam's going to have a 15 second lead which is something his father never had the chance to enjoy in his stint right here is the uh proctor mitchell scrap then this is for sixth position and sandy mitchell could do with getting this here because he's behind well most of the gt3 cars still running including some of those that he's fighting for the championship lead with mighty haven't got the inside oh guess two right he does a real lunge not much that lewis proctor could do about that really it was a committed move from sandy got to the apex stop the car yeah good stuff yeah really good move decisive from the body language of lewis and the mclaren it looked like he probably wasn't defending too much realizing you've got 40 minutes left of the race and sandy's obviously got some real pace it'd be better to let him go relatively easy with node 9 loss and hook onto the back of him and they potentially will catch plowman later on in a race and anyone else that drops off performance-wise so yeah i think we'll see that that lamborghini seems to have some real pace in the hands of uh sandy mitchell and what would have been if phil keane was out there and dennis linden the two sister lambos that were wiped out on that one yeah well uh absolutely because uh sandy mitchell and adam balon were fit in the championship arriving here at doddington 12 points off the championship leaders who are non-finishing uh so they're immediately gonna get themselves ahead of their teammates in the points phil keane and i go out as you said but the other two teams ahead of them in the championship are beach team and ram racing number six car so uh sandy needs to get on with this and try and limit the damage being done um and uh well he said apparently they were aiming for fourth place today because that meant no success penalty at spa in two weeks and actually that might just be doable uh back to gt4 andrew gordon colbrook here this is the closest pair of gt4 cars that we've got in the race still and it's jamie stanley that he's chasing and catching half a second quicker on the previous lap on this lap he's on course to do a similar amount of damage i think to the uh lead that the fox motorsport mclaren has and uh this would be uh a good result for fox motorsport they can pull it off even if it does end up being behind the number nine bmw which looks fairly certain now uh they are taking advantage admittedly of other people not being in the race anymore but uh jamie stanley and nick holster nick new to gt racing as well and uh seems to have taken to reasonably well yeah really well and uh jamie's obviously coaching him which is bringing him up to speed really really quickly and i think it's a great championship to be an am in gt4 because you've got so much to benchmark yourself against and kind of see where you sit in the food chain and how good you really are and that's that's the fun bit about competition is uh that exact bit the interesting bit with the uh gordon colebrook car is it is winning the track limits race i've seen on his fourth warning so he is literally one track limit away from a drive-through penalty so yes it's a tactical game of the track limits you've got five an hour basically so it should be one per driver roughly and you want to use them up but in an efficient way so for me the chicane here is the best one to cut you could probably get two or three tenths by fully committing to the cut but as the tires go off and you just generally make a little mistake and run wide you just drop a wheel you don't gain any time but you lose up use up one of those five lives and uh it becomes difficult and as we get a long shot of the crowd it's it's great to have some fans back at motorsport not quite a full capacity here at darlington but uh yeah from a driver's perspective it felt odd racing with no one here it was like a sort of test day on steroids but when the fans are here and uh there's plenty more of them to come then it's uh it does add a huge element of atmosphere to a racetrack that's really interesting then because as a motorsport fan myself it's nice to know that you guys do actually appreciate the fans being here i think it's one of those things you don't necessarily notice until it's gone uh but yeah it does really add something extra to the to the vibe to the atmosphere of the circuit just having people here enjoying live motorsport and people that have been starved of it really for the best part of the last 18 months and they've certainly had quite the spectacle today to uh to witness at donington park so 37 and a half minutes still to go in the race sam neary is nearly 15 seconds clear of gail mcberman at the front of the field getting some news as well from bryn lucas in the pit lane that it's a gearbox issue for the team parker porsche so uh not a legacy therefore of the contact they had had earlier on just uh an unfortunate issue to add on to some of the other unfortunate situations they've been in this race yeah there's difficult reliability in these cars we always take for granted now they're built so well that uh you don't really expect a dnf from reliability as we go on board with jamie stanley at the gt4 fox mclaren it looks like he's been sniped out the windscreen has got a few uh chunks out of it i assume that's just gravel being kicked up by guys in front uh and there's that chord of coal with bmw's getting closer i think the rate of catching has slowed slightly that obviously is still happening so jamie will be looking at this 35 minutes or so remaining i i think it's worth putting your elbows out personally yes they're first uh in class and this is that battle it's the overall podium and again there's an ego as a driver the overall podium is kind of the main goal there the class one's cool but yeah the overall ones uh well the kudos really is yes because the mclaren is uh running in pro am so two is the bmw and so is the mercedes actually that was leading the program category then before it came in to serve that uh three second stop go so that really was a costly uh penalty for the car gods with sicily motorsports squad uh sorry gordon colbrook having caught jamie stanley hasn't really started applying the pressure that i've seen the rate of closure has slowed down a little bit and uh he's not really getting right onto the tail of the mclaren although he's now flashing the light so that's guaranteed to give him place any moment now as he heads down through that helter skelter ride through the crane of curves into the old hairpin a really satisfying border that when you get it right but it's not an easy one to get right so easy to overshoot miss the apex and just kill your speed all the way up the hill not what happened to go on cobra though he's right with the mclaren now so where is the bmw stronger than the mclaren how can andrew gordon colbert convert that into a move so you're looking kind of everywhere and jamie's on the defensive aggressively straight away to kind of nip that in the bud and try and uh stop the momentum of that bmw really but uh it's laying down some serious rubber it looks strong everywhere i think that even-ish that bmw's just got that little bit more everywhere at the moment so the top speed was was bang on even jamie covering the inside well just seeing if that bmw can get a cut back it's hard to see if they're illegal track limits there so the uh the hayfisher guys have done well for the drivers not showing their guilt through the chicane the right part is where they can really cut diving on the brakes see the front the car's diving down super hard on the brakes all these cars have abs braking so the drivers are able to hit the brakes as hard as they want and then the clever computer system works out where to put the brake pressure to which corner most efficiently the bmw's kind of prodding isn't he's looking both ways a bit of a an open-ended attack at the moment yes and uh they've got the overall race leader catch them now as well so uh sam neary gonna have to deal with these two i haven't seen much of sam in this stint which is just how he'd like it really uh he is well we'll get the official gap shortly but it's about 15 seconds his margin over the rest of the gt3 field and he's going to catch these two down through the crater curves and this is the difference between having a 15 second lead and maybe a half a second lead he can afford if he wants to to sit behind but he doesn't want to go straight up the inside of andrew braun colebrook nice move and it was a move you know we sometimes think of the gt3s passing the gt4s as being uh just wait for a straight and then drive straight past them but if you catch them in a corner it still has to be a legitimate overtake and it's still something that really requires some concentration to get right yeah and you you actually did call it 100 right again i'm not being sarcastic but as a driver sometimes it's harder to get out of your rhythm so yes he's got 15 seconds but if you go i'd normally do his overtake but i'm not going to do this overtake it just opens up like a new sort of chapter of possibility of stuff to go wrong and an example i've got firsthand as i was at spa a few years ago in the mclaren gt4 i had a 50-second lead and the tyre pressure is a bit low in the tee oh you see jamie stanley run wide and i think that's going to give the bmw a chance to squeeze him open so jamie's only hope now is to get on the brakes early come back get down the inside and drive out of this corner and get back in front of the bmw in time for this next left hander i think they're side by side by the looks of it and i would have thought the bmw's just got enough to keep the inside so jake we can do the same again potentially cut back longer over the grass on the inside if need to be i think the bmw's just got it just seems to have that little bit more grip out of the corner uh yeah that was an unorthodox way of getting past fragile and coldbrook i'm pretty sure he had two hills on the grass as he was turning into the melbourne head but then he takes a nice inviting wide line into red gates and uh jamie stanley considers getting back up the inside but uh wasn't quite able to do it i think now andrew should have the face he was about half a second a lot quicker than jamie whilst he was catching him but he should now be able to find that pace once again 6.7 seconds he is behind james kell that would be for second overall in gt4 and of course uh gordon colebrook is uh classified as a pro driver whereas kell and gus berkeley lead the gt4 category they are silver graded drivers so in theory should be a pace advantage here for gordon colebrook whether he's got the time to do anything with it though we'll have to wait and see yeah i've just seen on the timing screens actually suddenly mitchell has just done a fastest lap of the race which is a strange time to do it at the start this thing you're obviously full of fuel but fresh tires and that historically is the fastest point of your stint but as the fuel burns off you do kind of get a second life as 80 85 kilos lighter but the tyre's gone and he's really really really catching clown without array of knots here so i expect this move to be done pretty pretty similar um so the interesting i've seen the chicane you see the uh the rector cell on the inside's being hit there and actually taking off the fabric so we're starting starting to get more and more track limit warnings there yes uh yeah you if you hit that too many times then it will yeah black and white driving standards flag is what it officially is called uh we tend to uh associate it with just track limits but it can be shown for all manner of reasons if your driving standards aren't meeting the uh the standard that the race director would like and that was not really a racing line that met martin plowman's usually very high standards very wide at goddard in the end makes the job for sandy mitchell quite easy which is probably quite a relief for sandy because he'll have seen how much difficulty adam balon had passing that bentley in his stint and uh for sandy to arrive on his tail and get past pretty much immediately that's a big win yeah definitely just opens up the possibility of catching that sort of group of cars in front clutton adam and berman so we get some great stats these days from uh aws and unsurprisingly the uh bentley rocket ship fastest but actually alright surprising mitchell there third fastest show he's getting good drive same speed as sam neary bang on and then lewis proctor in the mclaren so again parking back to the bop the penalty is fast so we expect that it's almost a given but those those three cars the mercedes the lambo and the mclaren all very very similar and that's why we're seeing such good racing today yes and that speed trap is halfway down but most of the way down through the crater curve so actually the corner speed of the lamborghini i think is what's keeping it up there in the in that particular speed trap the other one down the end of the exhibition straight perhaps not right then uh second place three cars together here mercedes obviously but aston martin of johnny adam mclaren of marcus clutton they are all covered now by less than a second and a half with half an hour still to go yelmer berman has not yet started to close in on sam neary as we sort of predicted he would in fact the exact opposite is happening on the previous lap and that one as well a second slower than the leader so sam neary 17 seconds ahead of this group is bourbon struggling is this something you can see him maybe in the second half the sin bouncing back from and finding more pace it looks as though he is starting to slip back into their clutches a bit yeah i mean they're on pole position but it was really loggy that put them on paul yelmer was in the middle of his qualifying session so he hadn't had the pace in qualifying potentially as strong as as he and his teammates so yeah it's definitely not coming to him as well as it came to log at this point of his stint so i predict a three-car battle and they're it's kind of perfect for us in regards i think they're all the wrong way around i think the slowest guys at the front and the fastest guys at the back and sandy mitchell was just in shot there eight seconds behind so i think that's too much to get involved probably i'll caveat because i've been wrong a lot today but this is gonna really spice up and i think johnny adam is going to be super positive here trying to clear yellowman as quickly as he can uh yeah because uh marcus seems to have laid off johnny for a little while but as soon as they catch elva marx is going to then be keen to get back on with uh with the job of getting past johnny adam but all the while in the back of marcus clinton's mind is the fact that he went for a move at silverstone that he said he shouldn't have done and uh ended in contact on johnny adam as well just to add a little bit more spice to the dynamic so johnny is a lovely guy and i'm sure if there was any words it was only kind of i understand it was a mistake not a stupid move uh in that regard so yeah it's pretty well set up that's quite interesting from the few cars we've got left what the chances of that and just going back to that speed trap kind of gloss over it that's in miles and hours 145 miles an hour through a corner kind of shows you how quick these cars are i'm not sure how many people have done 145 miles an hour on the road but as soon as you get above that obviously in private conditions and all of that it feels fast so you can start to picture 145 miles an hour's like nose to tail with other cars while trying to overtake each other yeah absolutely it must be such a thrill and this circuit in particular looks like a lot of fun because it's fast but it's not a flat sort of silverstone-esque circuit it's got the undulation it's got the blind corners it's got you know there's runoff area but it's grass and gravel rather than tarmac so there's something there to to be wary of if it does go wrong and as a driver that is the kind of circuit that you guys enjoy yeah definitely definitely uh when you uh when i was coaching here or coaching people and let's resort to see this bmw getting close i thought he's gonna go for a lunch kind of a like darlington park a roller coaster but without rails and that kind of lets you crash quite nicely so if you get uh a customer is a bit too sort of arrogant shall we say that you kind of allude to it that's a big sliders he definitely wasn't on rails coming out of there it really has that feeling you get that sort of stomach in your mouth through the craters and then even the downhill into the into the hairpins really adds a huge amount of load in the car now james kell on the previous lap had a slow lap the pace in gt3 is sort of a low to mid 37 he did a 40.0 so kel had an issue on the previous lap that is why andrew gordon-corbert has caught him a lot quicker than we expected we thought he might get there but not this soon so this is for second place in gt4 gordon colebrook already has the pro am gt4 lead and he goes up the inside of the mclaren now into the hair but is that mclaren struggling do we think that is there an issue here there's a bit of damage on its rear right as he gets back past him and it could just simply be contact but i have seen previously on on the mclaren if you get hit from behind and it damages his exhaust i see all the hot exhaust gas ends up leaking in a part of the car it shouldn't and it could just be melting that rear part of the bumper and then it will be losing power on the back of that and we're seeing jamie stanley catch kell at a rate or not so that is pure speculation but i don't know if we'll see it but it's real right should be white and it is black and it might simply just be a bit of contact but as you alluded to his pace is really uh not in the ballpark as it were so you just get it now see it's a slightly darker color than the rest and here we are once again then in gt4 with a sentry motor sport one two gusbert leading by over half a minute now from his teammate andrew gordon colebrook they really have hit the jackpot this year haven't they century yeah really that bmw getting upgraded and it's always a race car is always fair with the bop but when it gets an evo you kind of get like a harmony sort of honeymoon period where the organizers don't quite know how good it is and if you get lucky you have that bit of performance in the pocket they definitely seem to be maximizing that and doing a good job if you get all your sort of lines uh sort of sorted you suddenly get results that seem to come quite easily yes now what isn't coming easily is third place for arkansas johnny adam is suddenly 2.1 seconds behind the albert berman again uh berman is matching now sam neary's pace so it's hard to tell whether this is adam having a slow lap or bourbon starting to find a bit more pace we'll monitor it over the next few minutes to see what uh what happens but what is happening is marcus clutton is seeing that pink porsche at pinkwasher pink mercedes disappearing off into the distance and thinking right johnny now is my time to get past you you've had your chance to go after bourbon you haven't done it my turn now yeah definitely and the gap has been pretty stagnant hasn't it but almost the whole stint half those first few that's what he caught up to johnny so he's he's really got to get that done and i i think he should at some point and it's for a podium so there is that added element there but unfortunately as a driver we've said his last race was a mistake hitting johnny adams so is that gonna which way is that gonna go is he going to go super aggressive to make amends or cautious to not repeat history in that regard so lewis proctor catching the back of plowman as well so only eight tenths there and he caught it by that much on the last lap so that'll be a done move relatively shortly as we go back on board with james stanley catching another mclaren in front yeah we did get a camera shot of it unfortunately i couldn't really see it look like the body was melting a bit but i might just be making it up but uh yeah this is gonna be a good battle for the last few laps i think yeah this for third place in gt4 then james kell number two jb stanley number 40 looking for his and fox motorsports first ever gt4 outright podium and it looks as though they've got a pace advantage here over the rocket rjn mclaren as they drop down into the melbourne hair bin rocket rj running three mclarens this season two of them for mclaren's driver development program and side by side here at gt3 mclaren going past the bentley that is lewis proctor into sixth position you sort of uh saw that one coming and that is a brave place to make the pass yeah as i like to see the setup of the move because we kind of saw it had already been done but that was at some point in the mid cranes and yeah i generally feel sorry for that that bentley that has looked hard work all day and then proper salt into the wound moment for uh for flannel there because he got overtaken then ran wide and would have got a track limit warning at the old airplane as well so couldn't have gone much worse you see jamie stanley down the inside and that has moved done that was again looked relatively easy i think james cowell hasn't fought that too much he must be looking at a bigger picture of the championship and not willing to risk it there too much yep so through the old hairpin we go then and make our way up through starkey schwan's curve speed building all the way up towards the right hand and mclean's corner difficult breaking point that you're sort of still turning left of it when you hit the brakes and then you swing your back to the right up over the top of the hill back to third place now in gt3 though and johnny adam starting to feel the heat now and drops another second since we last saw them anyway over yelmer berman in second place berman on that lap was three tenths quicker than sam heary but uh 22 minutes to go 16 seconds the gap i think sam can probably afford to coast this one home on ball with clutton over the curb on the inside hope for the curb on the outside use the curb at starkeys as well they really do use every inch of real estate available to them to try and uh carry the speed as best they can through the corners putting again twitching away there through mclean's corner the trouble for the mclaren though might be the grunt of that aston martin because again johnny adam is just able to gap him down the streets and the best places to overtake are at the end of those straights and uh we sort of saw this before with ballon and fletcher it seems to me like a similar dynamic here yeah and look at that mclaren it looks like it's running quite a high wing angle so that rear wing is fully customizable in its degrees uh so if it's running full wing it will have more grip more aerodynamic grip but more drag and that potentially is hurting as well as we go on board with johnny silky smooth one finger gear shifts he's uh very very smooth as a driver and that really translates into every element of his driver inputs sad to see heroes get old but you can see him wearing glasses now so he's obviously getting on a bit his uh eyesight is falling but luckily his pace is still there so quick check in the mirror as he comes over the start finish line and off he goes for another lap and i think he'll actually be quite confident that he's got the measure of clutter although quoting you'd say he's quick over the lap he hasn't really been out to put any fight up any move it doesn't look like he's been on the cards at all in this sort of first 40 minutes of the ousting yeah i do wonder whether maybe marcus did elect to save the tires a bit through the middle part of the stint allow johnny to drag him up to bourbon but uh there seems to be more of a concerted effort now by marcus to do something about the aston martin trouble is he's not able to so uh perhaps he might regret now not giving it the full beams for the entire stint so they have saved some tires though may have a bit more tire life we've still got 20 minutes to go so there's a lot that could still develop in this uh it looks as though maybe third place is the highest that either of these two will finish though with uh berman continuing to get away from them samurai leads them bourbon second adam third club near on board within four now sandy mitchell is the other element to add into this because he's 4.1 seconds behind these two but laughing around three quarters of a second a lot quicker there you can just see him at the top of the shot the green lamborghini that will spur marcus on here as well won't it if he doesn't get on with this quickly he'll have to be defending as well as attacking and that's never ideal yeah definitely and at the rate you're not there catching and it it really is a slowing of johnny adam and marcus clotten rather than are speeding up of burma in front and mitchell's behind his pace has remained constant and yeah this rate of knots he's going to be there in the next five to six laps and we've got at least what 10 or 11 laps left so this is going to become a three-car battle just not the three-car battle i thought with bourbon so uh yeah mitchell's going to be rubbing his uh little scottish hands in delight here and hopefully not for the first time today it will end up a positive result i mean it's he did this at silverstone really didn't he came on strong right at the end of course caught past his teammate dennis lin on the final lap sandy has displayed this year he is not afraid to really go for it get the best result that he can you know some people when they get this 20-second success penalty at a track that barbell haven't traditionally excelled at either it must be said i know they've had bad luck here in the past but the lamborghini hasn't always seemed to be the car to have at donington they might be tempted just to bank the points for a solid top five or six but uh absolutely not the way sandy mitchell works you can see him in the background right over the curb up to the grass he wants to catch these two because unbelievably there is still the chance of a podium finish for them and that could be huge yeah i don't believe what you said earlier about them not wanting a podium ahead of spa for the success penalty sort of issue that we alluded to earlier if you can take the point at any point of championship you take them even if it comes with a 10-second success hangover the next round is worth having them in the bank so yeah i think um i'm just trying to think if i was marcus right now what would i be looking to achieve as we see another battle going that's the mercedes even off his drive through all the way around the outside lovely move but a unique one we don't see that work too often that well and uh yeah he's gonna get on his merry way looks like he's got some serious pace i mean full credit to jake giddings that was a great move and that was the position as yama burma has a close moment with james cal full credit good move but um i don't think all is well with james kell because he himself is a good driver and uh would probably not have allowed that move to be made on him under normal circumstances really see the difference here joe between the gt3 amg and the gt4 it's amazing actually how different they look it is basically the same car yeah you can't believe when you see the gt3 it looks like a road car but then when you sit next to the road car gt4 it really does and everything's just on steroids and things turned up and that gt4 car will be 200 000 euros and the gt3 will be 450 so luckily you can't see where that 250 000 euro delta goes to the manufacturer everything is bespoke on these cars so everything's carbon fiber everything's super lightweight and that gt4 car just has more road car parts in it to keep the price down and hence why they're slower and heavier and uh it is wicked to see the illustration and it just opens up gt racing to more people within motorsport of having that sort of dynamic of two categories yeah and gt4 is really booming at the moment as well especially over in europe with uh some really really big grids competitive racing and more and more pro drivers out and out pro drivers now actually seeing gt4 maybe as the place to be and uh here this weekend we did an hour and a half ago have more gt forecasts than gt3s so yeah gt4 perhaps for some is the future of gt racing you just can't beat the the incredible spectacle that is a field of gt3 cars and you can see the aston martin again catching the fox motorsport mclaren in the wrong place but johnny got through before the old hairpin marcus clutton didn't and you could see graphically there the time that lost club yeah and you might think that the gt4 mclaren should help the gt3 mclaren being the same brand but they are run by different customer teams there is no sort of brand loyalty across that element and it was just bad luck on marcus's fault and the only thing is sometimes once you've been on the tail of someone for so long like i said earlier it becomes a bit stagnant now he's lost that half a second seven tenths he's going to catch johnny adam back up most probably and actually understand where he is strong and he might then be able to carry that momentum into an overtake uh we are seeing more track limits warnings but no one's getting closer drive through penalty yet so i think uh pete today the race director has been pretty lenient today let us race which is always nice we do have completely different track limit rules in the uk for whatever reason so it is harder to adhere to as a racing driver excuse me in fairness to peter daley he's got enough on this plate without having out endless truck limits penalties i suppose there's quite a lot to discuss after this race number nine of andre gordon colbrook still second in gt4 gets nicely out of the way of uh johnny adam and marcus clutton and now you can see sandy mitchell flashing his lights he is a coming the gap now between uh clinton fourth and mitchell fifth is under a second so third fourth and fifth covered by less than two seconds clip this coming back towards adam mitchell's quicker than the pair of them and uh sandy mitchell is uh looking like he might be on for the podium down into the old hairpin he goes and yeah this probably would be driver of the race if it wasn't for the car that's leading this race still by over 15 seconds yeah they've always been in a class of their own considerably started last they didn't do qualifying they missed the majority of fp2 and they're 16 seconds in the lead as we lovely shot of it through the chicane super loaded and they've they've done mega and it is an older car than the ram mercedes so they are doing really really well as you said sam told you that he was as quick as yelmer bourbon which is always a cool story but to be fair he's converted on his promise and he's got 14 minutes to stroke that car home 19 years old sam neary that is astonishing and a really really bright future future ahead of him with gt racing i'm absolutely sure 19 years old and only in about his second or third season of racing anything no karting or anything 400 straight into uh gt cup i think he wanted a year in a bmw straight into the mercedes last year was winning races immediately in other series and uh it's been a long time coming potentially this first win in the british gt right there danny to get caught up from johnny adam marcus clutton and sandy mitchell now the dynamic starts to shift for club and he's had the best part of 45 minutes to try and get past johnny animal let's let's say 30 minutes by the time he caught adam he hasn't been able to do it he's dropped back now after that mark got in his way and he's not really been able to get back to adam and now he's got that uh kermit the frog lamborghini arriving in his rear view mirrors so at what point do you think marcus might start thinking right let's consolidate fourth place over let's attack the third i've never really thought something mitchell looked like the photo who said it but uh yeah he is a a serious serious uh disadvantage pace wise here to sandy so i think he's he's just got to go for it now there's there's no time left he's he's either going to finish i think behind sandy and johnny still in front or he's going to have to follow sandy through i can't see this move being invented without sandy kind of being the door opener for him um but likewise it'd be interesting to see now sandy's caught up with him what can he do can he make the move stick somewhere yes uh because actually the mclaren and the lamborghini i would imagine both being mid-engine they'll generate their lap time in a similar way so that should make it easier it's not gonna be easy to overtake markers but easier maybe for mitchell to find a way through he's not having to overcome that straight line speed deficit that uh that car suffered with against things like the uh the bentley and the mercedes for example who goddard they go and uh with that in mind where do you think the move comes so it looks like the the lambo to me is pretty good on the brakes i think the mclaren was okay but with the bop the weight they put in these cars the braking sort of phases one of the ones that's the most changeable fire weight and we've got some big brake zones here as i said earlier donald trump is so hard on brakes because of the amount of brake zones so i think he's probably best chances either the first or the second hairpin right at the end of the lap or traffic or a mistake and it was great that shot we had on the mclaren actually it couldn't have been better timing you could just see sandy really in and you can see the mclaren that rear wing actually generating the downforce the load is under it's squats it's brilliant we go back to it he's actually sat on the rear exhaust duct for the cockpit air i'm sure we've got a better word for it mclaren it's a load of vacuums but it's brilliant so this is the air coming out of the cockpit and it's just a hole at the camera sits in beautifully you can see the rear wing starting to shake at speed as it loads up more and more hit the brakes the rear will just sit up a little bit you get the concertina effect so that sort of over accentuates obviously gravel getting kicked up through the chicane that closing in speed but watch it as he goes under the brakes here definitely takes a length out just here locking slightly at mclaren let's see what the traction's like is a fair comparison definitely doesn't lose as much on traction as he gains on break so that concertina effect isn't as strong as i was hoping for mclaren yeah and again now he's watching his mirrors dropping away from johnny adam again they had actually uh closed back in again at the start of the lap glutton duels in the dirt there coming out of goddard ten and a half minutes to go i mean that is not a huge amount of time but with sandy mitchell on your tail it's going to feel like an absolute lifetime here and this is great news for johnny adam who does now have nearly a one second gap over these two through the crane of curves they go then sam niri still leads the way by 16.6 seconds at the end of lap number 68 of the race uh and then younger bourbon 5.1 seconds now ahead of this little trio which really is now becoming a two-way fight you'd say for fourth position behind them is lewis proctor in sixth position martin plant seventh and that's it for the gt3s unfortunately eighth place overall has over a thirty second lead still over andrew gordon coleman so we've got two fairly dominant class leaders at the moment but still a few battles to be settled behind in gt4 actually jake giddings has caught jamie stanley for third place oh except he's off the road well that was well timed wasn't it off goes jake jay giddings in the mercedes the car gods with sicily motorsport car was at the line three tenths of a second behind jamie stanley for that third place in gt4 sandy mitchell on the attack into the hairpin marcus clinton has to defend whilst also going up the inside of the gt4 leading bmw it's all starting to come alive again here at the end isn't it yeah the givings one was strange it was late on in the in the phase of redgate so it would have been the side to side contact when i first saw i was worried that mclaren that had been parked up was gonna come into play but he uh obviously got going no harm done get his head back down at least with him the rate of attrition that we've had he actually won't lose that many positions with that spin but yeah this mitchell sort of cutting fight again he's caught up quickly but just highlighting how error-dependent these cars are these days they're generally so much their lap time from downforce and like we hear in f1 rather boringly it's the dirty air it's so hard to keep that pace up let's have a look i can't see any damage just so quite late in the corner oh he's on the outside i can't really work out what's going on there to be honest i think i think he's just got involved in the stupidity of sunday race at donington park for british gt i can't see how the contact would have made him spin with stanley no it was almost like he was just on the grass and it let go but i think everyone knows driving on grass is a good thing so i'll let you decide on that one i'm afraid i can offer no further information myself that was odd but uh suitably odd let's say uh he has as you said um rejoined behind james kell actually so he didn't lose a place to kell but we know kelly's struggling because givings might be able to close the seven second deficit he's got now uh to reclaim that fourth place in gt4 uh having confidently predicted that clutton was dropping away from johnny hatter he's suddenly right back with him again so he once more have three cars for second place but every time clutton gets to johnny adam johnny seems to almost back him into sandy again and marcus really does have the toughest job in motorsport here he's trying to attack and defend you can't fully commit to one because then you naturally end up sacrificing the other if he goes for a move here on johnny adam and it doesn't work the loss of momentum he's likely to let uh let sandy mitchell grow yeah definitely you you're stuck between a rock rocking a hard place or between a scotland another scot so it's going to be uh seven minutes gonna be four laps so uh we're going for a replay we've got johnny adam here on on board so he's going up the gears checking down he's moving something down i can't quite see what it is it's a few things uh i don't know the vantage inside out something that's not on the steering wheel normally isn't super important so it could be brake bias it could even be him moving his pedal box the pedal boxes move forward and back for like taller shorter drivers and maybe he's getting a bit of crap i'm really speculating but he definitely had a couple of goes at it um so i'd be interested to see what that is i'll have to have to ask him what it is um really interesting it just shows you how demanding these cars are to drive it's not brake gears there is a lot going on and if johnny's doing it is for a good reason uh what else he's doing is exceeding track limits he's on his third warning now for track limits johnny adams so he's feeling the pressure here and it's not often that we see that from johnny but both he and andrew howard have been saying that car is strangely off the pace this weekend they both said the car feels excellent they get out of it at the end of the session they think yeah that's great set up spot on we're going to be on the pace but the lap times just haven't really reflected how well they feel the car is driving and so they have sort of been fighting that a little bit therefore all things considered the podium result would be a pretty good way to round out the weekend but that is far from certain because mark clapton and sandy mitchell absolutely have something to uh say about that top speed graphic through the craters and now lewis proctor has matched the pace of sam nieri and they've both gone a little bit quicker than the bentley had gone earlier on so fuel load i guess having something to do with that jeff yeah definitely that would be the dominating factor in that and lewis proctor looking like jason statham was obviously pretty brave and he's uh keeping his foot fully pinned through the craters and yeah it's impressive for the mclaren to be quick on the bentley in a speed trap so alcoholic sport obviously got that thing fully hooked up and like i alluded to earlier marcus clutton and the enduro mclaren they're running full wing maybe balfour found a happier sweet spot with less wing so less grip but more straight line speed so yeah interesting we say about johnny adams sometimes you get that with a car the car feels good but it's just not particularly quick and there's a bit of an old wives tale in motorsport that the fast car doesn't feel good and there is a kind of logic behind it that fast is a bit safe and johnny again as you said he is feeling the pressure track limits but now also a defense and i think he's probably looking to do exactly what's happened is back cluttering up into sandy and his best defense is actually sandy mitchell he's all the way around the outside he's not going to get that done and we're going to see the old balan look to the outside into turn one 58 times and hopefully one of them works but those cars are pretty even out there of acceleration there's not much between them yeah and clutton is not letting him have the inside line so balor mitchell does have to go to the outside watch for the exit speed though clutter is clever again but mitchell saw it coming goes to the outside and there's contact the lamborghini sideways you could see that coming clinton was never going to open the inside up so mitchell anticipated it went to the outside and then clinton said oh no you're not having that side either an edge them out over the curve in the grass that almost ended in disaster and it splits this little pack up now with johnny adam having gone away from them here's the on board with club great shot here so we'll see as you said sandy go to the outside he's got the run marcus just takes his road and he has nowhere to go and suddenly he has to have a big lift out of that from the rear shot the exterior shot we saw the rear actually kick up into the air so good car control for me fair and that's what racing's about the guy in front wants that bit of track it's his real estate to decide what he wants to do seeing killings getting caught it's uh it's always fun when you're the gt3 tracks trying to guess where you're actually going to get them so this is going to be really tight if johnny can get him before the apex of this first hairpin it's going to be tight and he's not and but then kel's holding up giddings and that's full position so this is going to go too wide potentially for gt4 johnny's probably going to get super lucky to get both of them before the last corner and then clutton's going to get the merc but not lee oh my god that's tight isn't it he's not going to get that mclaren to the hopefully the mclaren will go to the left leave clot on the inside and that will naturally let him defend from sandy once more into turn one see that there's not a huge amount of difference in a straight line between the two classes it is all the downforce through the corner gt3 cars have and then they're lighter as well i guess and they just carry that speed a little bit better than the gt4s that's where their lap time is the battle they just went past it was four position that is james kell trying to redefend his uh fourth place in gt4 from jay giddings who's had a spin and a penalty in this race and uh he is still in contention for fourth place james kell we believe is locking up quite a lot out there so that possibly feeds into the idea that something not right with the mclaren but it's down on power as well you can see it quite clearly yeah if he's if he is locking the brakes and that would be obviously an abs problem and he might not be able to attack the brake so it can come across like a top speed issue if he's just have to lift out the throttle gently then apply the brakes and when a car is designed to have abs and has an abs failure if that is what happened it becomes really difficult to drive and you literally will be two three seconds slower as we see clutter really really is caught up this is looking really really difficult for johnny's on the mad defense two laps remaining he's blocked the inside but there is a bit of a nose there so clutton can't get a slight run on but it looks like that aston has just got the performance where it needs it to hold it off the only way this moves happening is a dive bomb and by that i mean it is literally a send it and hope for the best that johnny doesn't turn in off the back of a an incident at silver zone as marcus got that in his appetite i would probably out on the side of caution and now mitchell's right back with clutton again as well this is getting a bit frustrating now the enduro motorsport driver who has a moment of his own actually through red gate mitchell is quicker off the corner can couldn't get to the inside they'll run over something there it's not not sure where that came from mitchell can't quite get to the inside and so they stay like a certain we believe that debris might have been from the sicily mercedes uh also bryn has been down to beach dean and asked what jolly adam is doing they tell him it's traction control that he's fiddling around with which i before would have been on the good cover story boys but i'm not buying it yes i i have to agree with you there uh right on the inside of a back marker they go despite the loss of time there for clutton he's already back with adam the bat market didn't exactly help sandy mitchell there either so they come out of the corner a little bit closer together maybe and yeah what's up weaving down the street which is a bit of an odd sign potentially fuel that's the only time i would really weave and you're not warming your tires and uh i mean that car has been battered the windscreen i don't know if you've seen all the cracks it's actually getting worse i'd say i've seen uh less cracks on a building site than he's got so hopefully there's not some damage from stones going through radiators and everything but yeah one more lap to go what have we got but that that aston martin pace is still dropping off i think the piece of that was uh yeah lost another second to yell my birdman that last one uh yes who is still 16 seconds behind the samurai as he has been for basically the last hour we are on to the 76th and final lap of the race then sandy mitchell with the inside almost have clipped there into red gate corner it's all gonna boil down to that final set of corners isn't it through the chicane through the um melbourne hairpin and then again into goddard but we are half a lap or so away from that yet johnny adam then in third place marcus clutton fought sandy mitchell in fifth uh or yeah eight seconds now behind the albert berman up the road through stark he's a bit scrappy maybe out of the old hair bin and so sandy mitchell is closer to him now than clutton is to the aston martin but this maybe is the part of the circuit where the mclaren might be a bit stronger now unfortunately sam neary has dominated this race so much that he's almost to the checkered flag so we're obliged to cut away from that battle to show what is the feel-good story of the season without a doubt this team has had nothing but rotten look all season long so far and sam and richard neary we think are about to become the first ever father-son duo to win a round of the intelligent money british gt championship sam neary crosses the line richard cheers him on from the sidelines a hugely popular race win yeah so i was watching the time square that mitchell didn't come through sector two but he's there there so it's fine it's last corner uh that bmw's just a little bit too far off the road to make it super interesting and yeah i mean all three pros have done a great job there they haven't traded any paint they haven't made any mistakes and it's ended up where they kind of started their stitch respectively but hard fare racing from all three second podium in three races then for beach dean aston martin they take the championship lead after the second round of the season with a third place finish for johnny adam and andrew howard yalma berman by the way had already crossed the line eight and a half seconds earlier in second place now gt4 it's again the century motorsport brigade andrew gordon colbrook has already taken the checkered flag in second place in gt4 ahead of jamie stanley in the mclaren this though was the dominant race leader by 35 seconds near enough uh andre gus burton in the century bmw there is richard neary who can probably hardly believe their look but also you know the fact that that was a sublime performance from richard in the first quarter really uh and then from he and sam throughout the rest of the race amidst all of the chaos and confusion they have come out as the class of the field same story really in gt4 for century motorsport as i said it's gonna be another one two finish for century then as out of the final corner and across the start finish line goes gus burton and he and will burns will extend their gt4 championship lead their second victory of the season and it is the second century one two that we've had in the first three races they've been on it from the very start of the season this team have really really deserved this race result i know we don't have favorites as commentators but i don't think there's anyone here this weekend joe who will begrudge the nearest this victory um and they really earned it it would be easy to say wouldn't it that oh well everyone else lost their heads and they just sort of inherited it but they haven't put a foot wrong yeah exactly and that's what i like when a a race winner deserves it in that regard superstar from richard great pace got past loggie fair and then sam just got in and it was quicker than everybody else in houston so yeah really really deserved and uh it's so cool father and son to win a race together i really like that dynamic yeah glenn and jim getty won a championship but never won a race so uh yes uh richard and sam neary then take the victory from yalma berman and ian loggie second johnny adam and johnny adam and andrew howard third position they're morgan tilbrook and marcus clutton for insurance were four barwells number one car was fifth the head of the proctors sixth position plummen and fletcher struggled in the end to seventh place and then into gt4 it was burns and burton who led another century motorsport 1-2 ahead of chris salkeld and andrew gordon colbrook who win gt4 pro am jamie stanley and nick halstead get there and fox motorsports first gt4 podium ahead of jake giddings and dave whitmore in the mercedes they had a penalty and a spin and still ended up fourth james kellen jordan collards struggled to fifth with their mystery issue and then no one else finished jones and scott mulvan had a gear box issue scott mckenna and john ferguson had damage so too did katie miller and harry hayek and unfortunately quite a lot of other cars as well that didn't make it to the end well may not have had that many cars running at the end of the race but it was still a very entertaining race actually once we got everything out of our system in the first half an hour some real quality racing actually uh throughout both gt3 and gt4 some really good side by side stuff and some real great stories as well sam neary his and his father richard's first victory in british gt i think he's pretty happy with that and uh that's nice to see as well yelmer berman coming over to congratulate him he's right there isn't he sami he's as quick as yama berman yeah proof in the pudding so it's now can he lead it on for a championship sort of every round doing it some cars some drivers go well and they've obviously gone well here uh luckily for them we do come back to donington park so they can try and repeat it johnny adam coming over so uh yeah as a driver is it's always nice to see a new driver uh especially someone like sam who works hard he's doing a lot of sim work as well and he's not just a driver it's a family team so he gets involved as his dad comes over probably going to tell me he's not going to get any pocket money this week or something because he did some track limits nice embrace that is cool as i said and uh yeah first father son winning british gt uh is another good start uh yeah absolutely and uh thanks for tom horsby for bringing that to my attention you're absolutely right you know about the championship i never would have thought at the start of the day i'd be calling richard and sam neary championship contenders but that win coupled with the fact that so many other front runners in the championship didn't score puts them on 52 and a half points joint championship leaders i think will be beech dean and ram racing's number six car and they're only 15 points ahead of the neary's so this one race over the course of two hours the entire complexion of the championship has changed yeah and again it shows you how competitive british gt is if you have one bad round you suddenly sort of drop out of the mix and you're then awfully praying that someone else has a bad round to get you back into it i see jamie stanley as you said fox motorsports first podium without mccain so it's wicked right then down in amongst all of the celebrations is uh britain lucas and this is uh bryn's had a few dodgy interviews to do today this though bring is gonna be it uh better one absolute fairy tale i think andy is what we'll say both of you i mean first of all let's go to your dad richard you drove like a real champion there that was brilliant yeah it was uh we were up against it i didn't expect to be able to get to the front so easily we in the track time we've had this weekend we have had good pace we've just been a bit unlucky we had a massive failure with a brake disc uh in fp2 so you know we were out of position but you know eventually our look turned a bit and we got through cleanly uh it was great the team has worked tirelessly to put that car back together it it was like it was 50 50 last night whether we could repair the car or not so you know all credit to them really you know great race great race could really i could really hear the emotions sound when you were given the keys to that car after your dad had his stint you had a decent advantage you you increased it slightly yeah rich rich sort of won me that race he was incredible in that first stint especially that first corner was just unbelievable we couldn't believe it in the garage and then from there i started pulling the gap first straight away uh and then from there just match the tires and uh listening to every single noise in the car make sure nothing was wrong and just bring it home so now really happy first ever winning british gt for both of you well done gents well done thank you thank you thank you very much [Music] well uh yeah bryn's had quite a bit of bad news to deliver today but uh that is one of those moments that i love in motorsport where everyone was happy everyone enjoyed seeing the neres uh getting the race victory uh in gt4 i suspect maybe some of the other gt4 teams are starting to wonder what on earth they have to do to beat century motorsport i mean the fact that most of the gt4 field imploded today definitely helped century and they will have the maximum success penalties again to carry into spa in two weeks time uh but nonetheless it's gonna be a very very happy gus burton and will burns who win in gt4 for the second time in three races and they're down there now with bryn lucas we had 10th the first in gt3 we had ninth to first in gt4 gus and well that was a phenomenal race wasn't it yeah yeah it's uh it's definitely a shock after qualifying i think our morale was pretty low this weekend um we didn't like set up and qualify and wasn't fantastic and uh yeah you know we're just so far away from the front we're just quite um upset about yesterday but we never would have thought we thought top three today would have been out of reach so to be a one-two for the team is so great and will for yourself what a strange race so many cars falling off well it was quite a messy race to be honest with the safety cars and stuff like that but i'm quite used to that when i when i was doing the geneta super cup there's a bit of like a sprint race it felt like so i was able to pick a couple places and then just push my way over to the front so i was just i'm so pleased that i could hand the car over to gus and we could come away with her first we never thought we would be able to do that so it's a great result for the first time bmw and century have won at donington so well done gents cheers yeah huge congratulations to century motorsport who i'm not going to say they're unbeatable in gt4 because we've seen today things can change and they could go to spa and really struggle i don't know and of course the bop will continue to be tweaked as the season goes on but rare is it joe that we see one team in particular have such a stellar start to the season yeah definitely considering one's pro among one silver silver as well so there's even that dynamic that's not kind of the same as everybody else they've done really really well and yeah i think again last year they had it really hard that car wasn't particularly competitive and i don't think that was the team's fault i think that was the car itself and bmw addressed that issue with the evo and it really went from there and they weren't the cars that finished surely everyone's got at least one trophy on that table you'd like to think so wouldn't you the podium presentation's then about to uh get underway then granville from sro about to conduct the um podium presentations and uh there'll be a lot of happy drivers quite a few feel good stories actually uh to uh to come out of that one we start then with the overall gt3 podium third place for johnny adam and andrew howard a fighting third place that by my very rough maths gives them the joint championship lead but we'll get that confirmed post race head over to british gt social media and their website of course for updated points in the very near future second place then overall and in gt3 went the way of yelmer berman um and ian loggie from pole position with a 10 second success penalty yeah i think they'll take that it's a shame in a way they had the success penalty because i think it would have been a great battle with this pair uh right to the end had they not had it but in the end it was sam and richard neary who take a long awaited and well-deserved and popular first victory in the championship and that will catapult them back into championship contention despite the complete disaster that was their first two races of the season this is a champagne shower that's gonna feel particularly special i think richard uh uh quicker than sam on that you can tell that sam's not done this too often uh now he gets the uh now he gets the cork out of the bottle and he can get get into retaliation against the other drivers but uh yeah but uh i don't think that's the last time we'll be talking about those two on the top stepper podium i think it's absolutely amazing i'm just looking at richard i think he's always in disbelief then he's drinking that champagne just what's going on with uh of him today and uh yes without the championship it suddenly just turns on his head they probably weren't thinking they were in the championship and suddenly they'll sit down tonight look on britishgt.com and go oh we actually could win this now and suddenly their mindset changes and they might do a bit more testing and then everything starts to flow a bit different so it really does change that element of it gt3 silver am now we're not allowed silver silver combos in gt3 anymore but you can have a silver driver with an am uh and so uh third place in that category um there's only two oh my yes so you've got the uh the proctors and the neres so uh uh real family affair there father and son procter father and son neri uh the two finishers in gt three silver and of course the nereys with the overall win take the class win as well and i haven't uh they were already actually leading they weren't they were joint second in silva ram coming into this weekend uh behind balf so bob will actually retain the silvram championship lead right onto gt4 now then gt4 overall uh in third position in the gt4 category there jamie stanley then uh gets up onto the podium with nick also they started last on the gt4 grid as well then you've got chris sulkeld who shares second place with andrew gordon-colebrook uh once again i think i'm writing saying they haven't won a race no it's their second second place finish of the year but it's the second first place finish for their teammates and gus burton and will burns very very happy with that and that will give them now a fairly convincing champion to read again because their nearest rivals stellar motorsport retired with some unknown mechanical issue early in the race so doubly good news for century yeah definitely a very premature spray from jamie stanley though she's done the trophies yet so carnage and shoes is quite a fitting way for this race right this is carnage everywhere and everyone's uh crashing out and having a good time relatively well yes defined good time the highs and lows of motorsport we've seen it all today haven't we over the last two hours and that's uh one last congratulations to your teammate for a good good job well done one more podium to get through there that's gt4 pro am not convinced we had three finishers in gt4 but we did just about have three finishers in the gt4 pro am because it will be third place in class for uh the uh car gods with sicily motorsport pairing of dave whitmore and jake giddings then jamie stanley gets back up onto the podium with nick halstead making the transition from front wheel drive to rear wheel drive this year and getting a a pair of podiums here pretty early in his debut gt racing season but then it is a win this time for andrew gordon colbrook and chris salkhell they win the gt4 pro am category after two hours of uh tough competition here at donington park and the car sponsored by ainsley harriott harriet's chariot as they like to call it i believe ainsley was planning on attending most of the races this year i don't know whether he's here celebrating with the team uh but uh yeah that's uh one of the more unique sponsors i've seen in british gt history yeah i guess when they cook the breaks they blame him or send it to him and he readies it up i don't know that is a strange link but anyone that sponsors motorsports a friend of mine so absolutely by ainsley harris latest cookbook or something when ainsley wasn't here at brands they were giving out some uh ainsley harriet branded couscous of all things in the garage so he was here in in spirit if not in person well that was quite the two hours of racing now this is hey i got it right my math teacher would be proud joint championship leaders ian logan yelmer berman with andrew howard and johnny adam ballen and mitchell are third joint third with richard neary and sam niren look at that that's only 50 yes 15 points between 15 points covering four teams that is incredible we are now marching towards the halfway point of the season linda machitsky who were leading the championship arriving here at donington well they have the other end of the stick don't they they are fifth place and uh nearly 20 points off the top now with igo and keane after their non finish six lewis and stuart dropped the seventh and nick jones and scott malvin will be eight in the gt3 championship so it goes to show how quickly things can change i believe we've got the gt4 points as well here they are and it's a slightly more convincing lead for well both of the sentry motorsport cars really 57 gusbertner will burns lead the way from andre gordon colbrook and chris salkheld in the nine car with richard williams and center fielding only dropping one place in the championship but joe they're a lot further off the top now than they were two hours ago yeah i mean those guys richard williams and fielding and below really need a season of two halves don't they they need to have the season that century have had up to this point that is a commanding lead and uh again just an illustration of what a good job all four of those sensory drivers are doing the team and bmw motors what i've done with that new gt4 car yeah a shame for topham and burke as well because they having one at silverstone were very much in contention despite having missed the season at rams hatch right there was an awful lot that happened over the last two and a bit hours let's remind ourselves of some of it then with highlights of the race well at the start of the race we got off with a bang quite literally a good start made by nick jones from fourth in the porsche saw him challenging for second into redgate corner it was a challenge though that would go completely wrong he dived up the inside of mike ligo and as they disappeared from shot there was contact argo spun and the lookless leo machitsuki cluttered into the side of him wrecking the front of the barwell motorsport lamborghini the safety car came out he and loggie had the lead and richard neary had come from 10th on the grid to second within the first corner now the next safety car was caused by some shenanigans in gt4 but topham was struggling getting elbowed onto the grass going out of the old hairpin and half a lot later there was a multi-car gt4 shunt that took out a number of contenders including that 27 aston martin that had won last time at silverstone after another safety car period richard neary was immediately on his toes to get on the inside obviously he seized the lead into redgate corner a lead that that car would never lose for the next hour and a half of racing it was a bit of a struggle in the early stages though for the bentley of calvin fletcher after gt4 another unnecessary bit of contact really took out another three quick cars as the toyota made contact with the number four mclaren and the lookless wilmore in the ford mustang got involved as well calvin fletcher was really doing his best to keep adam balon behind time and time and time again ballon got alongside finally towards the end of his stint he got through coming through the final hairpin into the pit window we went richard near he came in to hand over to his father a son sam uh to take over this for the second half of the race as johnny adam got into the beach dean aston martin they were hoping to leapfrog the number six mercedes in the pit stops but they weren't quite able to do it in gt4 the 57 bmw had a big big lead and retained it after the pit stops whilst martin plowman jumped into a bentley that still wasn't handling right through the slow corners and had a fired up marcus clutton on his tail sandy mitchell had to overcome a 20-second success penalty and did so in style carving his way through the order whilst the number nine bmw was also overcoming success penalties and was eventually move up into second place in gt4 after a good battle with the fox motorsport mclaren and then with the remaining rjn mclaren which had some sort of rear damage that seemed to be slowing james kel down the big battle throughout the second half the race though was the one before a third place between johnny adam marcus clutton and sandy mitchell off when jake giddings at redgate he still rejoined and managed to salvage a good result for sicily motorsport clinton was defending for mitchell robustly but fairly i think mitchell getting on the grass at one point but none of this mattered to the race winners sam and richard neary become the first ever father and son combo to win a round of the intelligent money british gt championship and after the torrid season they've had so far that was a real feel-good story gt4 was another one-two for century motorsport their second of the year you
