proms are back with live audiences [Applause] let us follow the tradition and raise our voices in celebration of sir henry wood the founder conductor of the proms back in 1895 whose vision of access this year is help musicians kobe 19 hardship fund [Applause] [Music] supporting the many professional freelance musicians who have found themselves in considerable financial difficulties losing their livelihoods and careers due to the worldwide covet pandemic live music making was stopped across the world for many months and in some places it still is music that is core to human expression went silent orchestras choirs ensembles and bands amateur and professional were suddenly unable to gather for rehearsals and performances concert halls opera houses churches community centers clubs outdoor stages were empty the bond between audiences and performers was broken fortunately though we had the internet and recordings and tv and radio to see us through those long months from my home in finland i was able to keep in touch with the amazing creative projects put together by our bbc musicians and many many others during lockdown and then last august there were two wonderful weeks of bbc proms here at the royal albert hall without live audiences but broadcast on tv and radio so it's very special for us all to be here for the last night of the proms again with an audience to celebrate the healing and uplifting power of music [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and tonight let me remind us all about the five music rites championed by unesco the right for all children and adults to express themselves musically in all freedom to learn musical languages and skills to have access to musical involvement through participation listening creation and information and the right for all music artists to develop their artistry and communicate through all media and to obtain just recognition and fair remuneration for their work in large parts of the world including the uk we are once again able to do all of this but we should remember that elsewhere for many people in the world these rights are threatened or denied next year the bbc proms will start here on friday the 15th of july [Applause] but for now let's continue the last night of the prom celebrations with sir hubert parry's wonderful hymn jerusalem thank you [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] foreign
