how you going guys Kurtis from cutting edge  engineering tomorrow's job we have a 12m grader   to do some work on the articulation steering  cylinders of the machine we've brought it in   tonight we've got it set up in front of the  workshop we're not going to go and put it in   the shed it'll take up the entire workshop and  we won't be able to get things in and out or pass it   or around it the reason we've got the entire  machine in is because we need to do some line   boring on it the articulation cylinders have worn  out the bushes in the chassis so hence the whole   machine has been brought here because they're not  going to separate the rear part of the machine to   the front part to get that fixed they did have a  mobile guy have a look at it and he didn't want   to do it it was over at our customers workshop  which is just up the road from us so it worked   out pretty good for them just to run it down the  road to me customer was nice enough to remove the   fuel tanks and all the other stuff that gets in  the way it is a quite a confined little spot we   have to work in there they have put a little fuel  cell on there so i can move the machine around and   manipulate it into what position i need to work  it in main part that's worn out here is the ear   on the front chassis section of the articulation  side of the machine articulation is generally used   for another alternative of steering the machine  so they can essentially crab down a job site or   crab on a road whatever they're doing there is a  massive amount of wear in the ear of the machine   the steer cylinder clevis itself is also worn  out to start this job we do need to get rid   of these hydraulic cylinders the articulation  rams so i will need to undo all these hoses   i'll cap all them off i need to undo the pin back  in the engine bay of the machine so that i can   pull the other end of the cylinder out i need  to get them out of the way it is quite tight   and confined in here especially for the size of the line borer i use we might have to jack   the machine up a little bit put the stands under  it to get a little bit more height out of it so   we've made some sort of plan of attack but we'll  leave it here for now and we'll see you in the morning hey what's up here caps hydraulic fitting caps don't lose that o-ring right wow got it all that for that pin they don't make them very accessible come on let go [Music] i don't know they're pretty loose the bottom ear's bent and that one's worn that one's worn out as well i think it's worn out righto guys so we've removed the bush out of  the left-hand side of the machine it was still   uh intact there wasn't a great deal of damage  there the bush did do its job it did wear out   a lot of graders will run a fibre bush which is  basically it's a woven fiberglass so very tough   very resilient to wear caught this one in time  there's no real damage on this side so we don't   have to pull any more of the machine apart we  will just put a new bush in this side new pin   put all that together again and then we'll crack  on the other side and um start to do the line boring [Music] perfect one side done righto guys so where we're at with the machine at  the moment we've removed the articulation ram   I did mic up the right hand side it is a little  bit oversized so we will end up line boring it   after we line bore that we'll fit the new bush  and then i need to clean up the articulation   cylinder i'm pretty happy the other one  turned out pretty good because trying to   get to the rod end of that steering cylinder  would be an absolute nightmare there's just   so much stuff mounted on top of it it would  have been a real pain in the ass to try and   get all that off get in there and get those  pins out yeah i'm happy it didn't go that way righto guys so the way we're going to have to  do this one because it is such a confined area   i'm going to have to set the machine  up with the boring bar already in it   i can't get my welding lance in here i can't  come in from the top so weld it up by hand   and then i'll mount the bearing block on  the bottom after i reset up the boring bar   once that's all in place and in alignment we'll  tack that on then we can start boring it out that's good fit's nice that'll do [Music] [Music] righto guys so the next part of the job we  need to repair the cylinder the cylinder   is quite worn out you can see  the hole is very elongated also the bottom ear is actually bent what happened  to this was the bottom bolt that holds the pin   in had um come loose it didn't break it had come  loose and fallen out the pin was then being hung   on by its retaining clip through this hole here  these hang upside down so you can access them when   the fuel tanks are on the machine that did fall  out and then the pin fell halfway out of the hole   and the machine articulated and it bent that  bottom ear something we need to repair we need   to straighten that we're going to grind out all  this material we're going to weld it up and then   bore it back to size the reason we're going to do  the repair that way we're not going to sleeve it   sleeving is a not a good repair in my opinion our  customers like to be able to put these back to   standard especially when they're out in the field  and they need parts they don't want to have to try   and find who put a bush in it and what size  they use it makes extra work in the long run   so that's why we're going to put them back  to standard that way you can buy standard   parts off the shelf put them back in  the machine and get them going again that'll work a little bit more weight on it [Music] perfect [Music] [Music] what's this what's that where is he there he is ready righto ready ready yup it's the part that I need to do the uh didn't say about the line boring we need to do some line boring on it [Laughter] [ __ ] train can't even do it now ah so what so righto guys so the uh righto so that's oh um ah sorry [ __ ] [ __ ] um yup what else was I saying for now i'll see you in the morning that's it for now and i'll see you in the morning [Laughter] so we've made our plan of attack but for now oh [Laughter] so we've made our planet attack oh [ __ ] [Laughter] okay look i'm in the field ohhh it's gone forever now fell down into the belly oh no where are they too much stuff too many jigs ah huh oh the last draw you check yeah always the way they sit back and go how do we put this in such a terrible spot no one can get to i know we'll build the machine around it what the absolute [ __ ] this isn't gonna be [ __ ] easy horrible tight confined [ __ ] situations you have to get in it's gonna be [ __ ] tight putting that in there this is gonna be a [ __ ] nightmare oh god you can't see [ __ ] oh [Squeak] [squeak] wind [squeak] that's heavy [Squeak] sucking [ __ ] banana why is there always something unpack this [ __ ] nightmare it's a boy what happened oh what the [ __ ] [ __ ] should've waited til the [ __ ] thing was dry look at that oh [Laughter] there's like a massive scrape oh no don't look at me like that you won't give it to me to throw for ya oh that's a safety hazard i could slip in that [Laughter]
