how you going guys Kurtis from cutting edge  engineering today we have a bit of a rush   job from one of our local customers they have  a john deere tractor over at their workshop a   big big tractor tires are about yay tall  when i was standing beside it this morning the issue they have they want to put some  wider rims on the machine the rims they have   don't actually fit the machine they  did manage to find some new centers   for the rims we just need to do a little  bit of machining on them and then the   customer is going to weld them out this is  the new hub it doesn't fit inside the wheel well it fits in the wheel but doesn't fit where it  belongs so this part here needs to fit inside this   flange here so there's four of these to be  machines why don't they just buy the real rims for   the machine could be a number of reasons for that  they might not be available uh the wait time for   the wheels might be far too too long and they've  got a job for this machine to go to you do what   you've got to do in the times when you need to and  you just make things work so the first thing we   need to do is set them up in the machine we need  to reduce the outside diameter by about 15 mil we   then need to put a weld prep on it and turn a face  on it because we know that these pressed parts   aren't exactly always true and concentric first  things first we'll get it set up in the machine see how far out of whack the wheel is so it's set up in the machine i do know there  is going to be a fair bit of run out between   the center and the outside here being that  these are a pressed part and they're only   machined off the faces that get welded to they  don't machine where it goes on to the hub itself   or the back side of the rim so we've dialed in  the center of the rim as best we can get it the point one runout we have on the inside is not  going to be a problem these machines don't do   100 kilometers an hour down the motorway they  only burn around in a paddock so that's not   going to make much difference to the machine i  have spoke to the customer about that they said   they're more than happy for them to be exactly  the way they are but they have asked me to turn   a true spot on this space here so when they sit  that down inside the other wheel providing it's   running true and concentric and everything's good  in there it should be pretty close to running true   it is being held central on the three jaw chuck  we know that's good so we'll just chuck the dial   up here on the outside and show you how far  out of whack the outside of these hubs are [Music] righto guys so we finished machining on  the first one we've tested it inside the rim   everything's really good there so we've got  three more to do so we're going to crack on hey drop it drop it stay sit stay homeless stay get it [Music] a few people might be wondering about the weld  prep on this the idea is once they've got it   set up and sitting central and everything's  in alignment they're then going to go in and   they're going to weld across the top all the way  around try and get as much penetration as possible   then they can flip the rim over and they can then  back grind the other side back into the other weld   that way they're going to end up with 100 percent weld  penetration so we only left about three mil of   material there won't be much to grind through they  should actually burn into this or burn all the   way through it which will be sort of what we're  aiming for rather than putting a 45 degree bevel   on there as a weld prep we've given them a radius  it's a lot easier to get penetration into the   bottom of a radius rather than into a 45 degree  chamfer i've done everything i can do for them   they can weld them out put them on the  machine that machine's going back to work   customers happy job's done i'm going to  throw it on the ute and get it back to them [Music] first thing we need to do is oh so the first thing we need uh [ __ ] um everything's pretty good in there oh [ __ ] that up [ __ ] train am i talking about it yep got to put it in gear some [ __ ] turned the pump off that's a car coming in what WHAT nasty [ __ ] slinky go slinky go hot as [ __ ] ohhh
