Apparently SLMN is producing the podcast now. Letsgooooo!
Ah yes. Outlaws look way worse with Gargoyle... as they touch the Valiant spawn door...
The rare exception to Betteridge’s law of headlines.
I'm a support main, and dropped from D2 to G5 trying to one trick this man. I have 14 hours this season with him so far, and it's painful trying to get anything accomplished with him.
I don't want to repeat what everyone has already said about what makes him bad, but the one part of Lifeweaver's kit that is the reason you would want to pick him in the first place, Petal Platform, isn't getting any value currently. Life Grip is just a worse "oh shit" button then suzu or immortality because it can only save one person, and there's a good chance you're going to fuck someone over in a pinch yoinking them. Having to charge your heals, and then having a travel time on top of that makes saving people difficult, and having the down time between heal bursts make teammates susceptible to burst damage; and since you constantly have to charge your heal you're never able to deal damage (not even going to get in to how the needler is bad in it own right).
In his current state, he's a worse Mercy. His gameplay loop is trying to give his DPS an advantage while trying to evade the enemy team and keep your team alive. The entire point of picking Lifeweaver is to get your team places they can't normally get with Petal Platform, and save ONE person after they hard dive with Life Grip. You really can't blame your team for not using the platforms though, there's zero incentive to as it stands.
I honestly think a lot of his issues could be fixed with making his heal charge passively instead of actively, so you would be spending a majority of your time shooting the needler and sending out 65 hp heal bursts ever 1-1.5 secs. As well as petal platform giving 25 burst healing upon activation, and 25 hp per sec healing on the platform for its duration. Just some thoughts.
Weaver seems to just not have a way to actually win the fight for his team. He can save one person from feeding one time per fight and on maps with high grounds (but not really tall ones!) he can help you get up there... but most of those maps you would be playing someone who either can contest from range or get to high ground with their own cooldowns. His ult is awful and his weapon does no damage. He is fairly good at healing but at that point who cares? He needs something that isnt healing that he provides his team consistently.
I think the best route is buffing the tree to not be complete garbage. You can live with a healbot character if he had a win-condition ult but tree is the weakest support ult rn. Im not entirely sure how to make it not useless, though. Just giving the tree more healing output doesnt make it fun or interesting, since with more healing it just becomes a trans that can't move. I cant think of any other way to make it good, though.
I do also want to call attention to Custa's note that before Weaver was in comp, there were no legit throw picks. IMO Hog and Junkrat were the weakest but in my lobbies (GM5 rn), those two heroes werent so weak I felt like it was a throw. Good hog players can still get picks (its a lot harder, but good hogs find a way) and rat has some merit on maps with a lot of tight spaces where he can spam, so there is merit to the picks. The devs were genuinely doing a really good job of making sure none of the characters in the game felt useless. Genuine shoutout to the devs for that, very impressed.
Small things they can do right now:
- revert that idiotic auto reload nerf. Who gives compensation nerfs to a hero that is struggling as is?
- pink parts of his backflower to take no damage , similar how glowy parts of mercy wings dont take damage. I absolutely hate when hitboxes dont match visuals, but he needs something
- flower auto charges to max heal while he doing damage - there is absolutely no reason why he can't react to someone needing healing like any other support can at a moments notice if they are within his range.
- Increase mag size on thorns. I mean if hey want him to spam as self defense, let him spam.
I also personally think the community exaggerates how bad he is. he is certainly no dead weight, when he plays well. and he shines vs. mei, rein and zarya. But he does need something to help him out, and he certainly cannot be played vs. sombra. and struggled vs. d.va/ but consider that that those who didn't buy a battlepass are JUST coming around to unlock him. so you're seeing a second wave of first time players as well.
Has anyone been watching Dafran’s Lifeweaver streams? Some of the stuff he does is pretty amazing and looks like such a fun hero, but there’s only so much you can do. No carry potential at all.
Just buff hp to compensate for the hitbox
my wacky LW buff idea is make thorns apply a dot after you hit someone with a certain amount
