LEGO Star Wars BEST SET By Year! (1999 - 2019)

hey what's up studs right here or M&R frictions in today we're gonna be starting a new series that should run through this year and I plan to do one every month for the remainder of the earth and I'm gonna call this something along the lines of twenty four twenty lego starwars it's kind of a rip of the name thirty four thirty from ESPN except this is gonna be twenty sets in each set is gonna be from a different year from the first 20 years of Lego Star Wars so that runs us all the completed years of Lego Star Wars waves and sets that we've had so far from 1999 to 2018 so with that being said if you guys do enjoy this new series and you want to see more leave a like if you have a suggestion for what I could do for a 20 for 20 on Lego Star Wars would be at best minifigures best this worse that or something even different than that would be great let me know in the comments section below this first episode is gonna be on the best sets from the first 20 years of Lego Star Wars by each year so only one set from each year can be the best set in that year and that's how this list is going to go so let's get started with our first set on the list from 1999 the best set released in that year in my opinion is the seven one five zero TIE fighter and y-wing this was an excellent playset that packed two sets into one essentially you got a very nice and compact Darth Vader's TIE fighter and while it did look good at the time it doesn't quite look as good anymore but the y-wing is a very nice model also included you got three minifigures in the set you got a rebel pilot you got an astromech droid and of course you got the Darth Vader minifigure and who doesn't love Darth Vader but if Darth Vader standing there on the bottom right of the box and who's piloting Darth Vader's TIE fighter that's an interesting box art anyway yeah this is a really cool set and it's my favorite of 1999 I'm not going to go too in depth on all of these sets because I don't want this to become like a 25 minute video every time but moving on from 2000 in my opinion the best set released that year was the Trade Federation aat set seven one five five this included two very giant special molded UFO pieces I believe that they ended up using in this set for the front end of the AAT we never saw this used again now Lego uses different pieces but this looked really good for it also included some battle droids which was nice but overall this just had a really nice aat design of course I think people do like the tan color on this a lot myself included and I love the way they used those printed pieces to really add to this set because I don't think it would have looked that good without printed pieces moving on a 2001 we saw one of the first UCS that's not the first but one of the first it's the Tantive for and this is an incredible set I have it on my shelf and man I love this thing I didn't think I've ever owned this set and I'm glad to say I do own it because man this thing is an absolute monster II uses a pretty solid combination of printed and sticker pieces to get all of the detail on to the engines and the front end of the ship and even in the midsection that you can see just above some of the turrets but overall this thing is an incredible model and a very nice display piece and 2001 to me wasn't that great of a year for Lego Star Wars I mean you look back on it and there just wasn't that much that year other than like the TIE fighter in the imperial shuttle they were going pretty heavy on technic at that time and it just didn't look all that great so the set was definitely a highlight for that year moving on a 2002 I bet some of you guys didn't know this I was released in 2002 and hopefully we'll see it again in 2019 but the imperial star destroyer of course the UCS version had to be the best set 2002 like hands-down I originally was gonna say the republic gunship but then I was like yeah the imperial star destroyer was better sorry but yes this incredible model includes a very small tent at four down off to the side of it which you can actually I think hang off of it with like a clear still piece they include it just uses these it's one of the most menacing ships in all star wars in my opinion and this thing made it for a great Lego set especially for its time back in 2002 in my opinion the best set in 2003 was the for 483 80 80 or a DAT as some people like to call it for some reason anyway this thing was one of the sets that I never owned or still don't own but I've always wanted and I need to go out and buy it this wasn't the first Lego 8080 the first one was actually a motorized one and it looked yeah we're not gonna talk we don't talk about that one but this one looked very very nice and of course included a few snow troopers a Luke Skywalker minifigure and it was just a very nice large atat that you couldn't go wrong with so hopefully one day I'll own this one to me the best set in 2004 was the moss eisely Cantina you had this custom molded ooh back you had a very sleek looking Luke's land speeder which the design really hasn't changed all that much in about 20 years on that one and of course the Cantina itself with the exclusive Guido minifigure which used to be one of the rarest Lego Star Wars my figures not quite as much anymore because they've made new versions of him and people don't really care as much about the old one but I remember about five six years ago when this was a pretty hard to come by figure and it was very expensive it's a fun play set and one that I think a lot of Lego Star Wars fans look back on with a little bit of love now the set that almost made best set for 2004 was the rebel snow speeder I almost picked this one over the moss eisely Cantina mostly for nostalgia for myself and I ended up going with the Mos Eisley cantina instead did I make the wrong choice let me know in 2005 even with all of the Revenge of the cysts that's coming out and really I have a lot of nostalgia for all those sets I had to pick the Death Star to set 101 43 this is one of the best UCS sets ever made in a lot of people's opinions mine included and this thing is just a menace to society this set is an absolute monster it actually includes a mini Super Star Destroyer off to the side there on the boxart which is fun of course just kind of like the Star Destroyer included the mini tanta 4 it's just kind of a fun nod to have in both sets of course you have the large laser coming out of the Death Star which is always fun and of course the half brokenness of it they just did a great job getting all the details down on it and honestly if Lego was gonna release another ucs Death Star I would rather them do the Death Star 2 instead of the Death Star 1 I think the Death Star 2 has more charm because of that half-broken not quite spherical it's not completed yet has this more rustic look that I really like so Death Star 2 for 2005 quickly in 2006 a year were there were only about 10 sets I'm gonna pick the Imperial starter sure this one had great minifigures for $100 this one had some great mini figures including Darth Vader Grand Moff Tarkin some stormtroopers you really couldn't go wrong with this one let's not forget the Imperial Guards you had a really fun escape pod some fun turrets on the sides you also had these lasers that you could get to shoot out with a weird mechanism where you push on that red bit and it shot the lightsaber blade out I don't know it was weird I never really used it as a kid and I've never really figured it out you have this whole interior that you can open up to and overall it's just a really fun and well done set in my opinion the best set in 2007 was the 101 78 motorized 80 80 I honestly wish they had done more motorized lay with starburst sets and I have hope for the future that they might bring something like that back but this is just one of the classic classic Lego Star Wars sets like it really doesn't get better than an 80 80 that can walk on its own much like the original 80 80 you got a snow trooper or you got a Luke Skywalker and I think you also had a general viewers and an 8080 pilot inside the cockpit of it so was really fun and again the motorized function it was incredible works great the best set to come out of 2008 when the Clone Wars was released of course we have the Republic attack gunship this thing is a great model a lot of people that I know really hold this one in high regard it was one of their first big Lego Star Wars sets it's definitely one of the coolest pieces to have in a clone army especially back in the day when those are super popular a lot of people wanted to have a lot of these and that was just kind of a thing so this one definitely gets a nod Commander Cody estas ventures obi-wan Kenobi platoon and another clone trooper in there piloting the dang thing it was a great way to transport your clone troopers and overall Lego did a wonderful job designing it the only flaw on the design is that it didn't have a handle and often in a few would pick it up from the top with one hand it might fall apart in your hands so you have to be a little careful playing with this one if you're not playing with two hands following a similar theme in 2009 the Republic dropship with ATO T had to be the best set of the year another tanta four and the Venator were pretty good runner ups but this thing just trumped everything else I think it's pretty legendary at this point it's a very expensive set on the eBay in prickling you got six regular clone troopers and two cloned pilots which was a bad selection and I do wish they had included a couple more regular clone troopers to fill out your ATO tea a little bit but not bad at all the dropship of course could pick up the ATO tea with relative ease you just kind of put up the little stand and then you flip back the yellow thing on the dropship and then you connected it and it kind of closed on itself and it was fun it was a great little feature of course a big highlight of this side compared to the proper gunship we just took a look at it has a handle built-in with Technic like built into the frame it would never fall apart in your hands so that was a big plus to the set and I really loved the way this one turned out I hope Lego doesn't remake of this someday in 2010 the best set was the Imperial shuttle hands-down bar none nobody comes close to this or nothing comes close to this this is one of the best Lego Star Wars sets of all time and gosh dang I love this thing this is just a I think in general the Imperial shuttle in star wars is a really neat looking ship and this thing captured it perfectly I believe this was minifigure scale or pretty dang close to it I can't quite remember but it's pretty close to it if it's not you had plenty of weapon jury on this thing cannons for firepower you had landing gear that was included you could also swap out that landing gear for a very nice stand that allowed the Imperial shuttle to actually spread its wings and fly so have it in flight mode on display and that's how I personally display it in my bedroom and I think that's the best way to display just kind of in its full glory so that's the Imperial shuttle absolutely one of the best Lego Star Wars sets ever in my opinion come 2011 we saw the Super Star Destroyer and that's gonna be my pick for the best set of 2011 I actually have this set I've had it for many months and I have yet to build it so we'll see if that happens one day but the Super Star Destroyer this is a crazy cool model you had so many little details on the top side of this ship to kind of nail down that it's kind of a micro scale on the top of it and it looks incredible so if you could also pull off part of the top of this thing and access an interior section where you kind of could put it in some minifigures which was fun as well the other thing with this it includes a small imperial star destroyer which looks a little bit wonky in my opinion but not bad figure selection of course the stand was very nice this is a very cool set for display and definitely the best set in 2011 in my opinion 2012 saw the ucs r2d2 hand well you really can't go wrong with the ucs r2d2 I mean this is one of those popular characters in all of Star Wars and it was recreated very well in Lego form here even his dome looks pretty dang ground for being made out of basically squared-off bricks like Lego did a wonderful job again designing the head part of the r2d2 of course the rest of it is wonderfully designed as well you have the mechanism that allows the third leg to come in and out of the body you also have little tools that are two dudes who can pop out of his body which is really nice as well the head can rotate in the whole nine yards it's a very well done r2d2 model that's great for display and also pretty dang good for play 2013 was pretty tough for me to pick the best set to be honest and I came close to picking the Ewok village and the republic gunship and the ATT ii but eventually I landed on the UCS x-wing only really because I just built it a few months ago maybe have some recency bias there but oh man this is a really cool set the only detractor of this set is that that cockpit piece has a sticker on it and that sticker is really hard to put on in fact I didn't even bother trying to put it on I tried to put it on I failed and I didn't try to put it back on again so but other than that one of the coolest things about this set and I remember building it was the x-files the wings on it you the way like the mechanism works it's basically like I want to say a butterfly mechanism so it's kind of like the same that Apple uses on their keys for their keyboards I believe just kind of the way it's like imagine and then when you push down on it the X goes into a line essentially and that's how these wings work this was a major upgrade from the original UCS X Wing much more faithful color wise I believe and just overall a much nicer finish to this set so many different tiles and pieces used to get this thing actually look very clean and I think that's the best way to describe this set is clean 2014 was a pretty good year for legostarwars as well and they had a lot of good sets but in my opinion the best set from that year and it could have been the UCS Ankara lair but I think the moss eisely Cantina has to take the cake for $70 you got such a good Lego set here you had three bids musicians you had Greedo han Solo Luke Skywalker obi-wan Kenobi a sand trooper a completely new molded Dewback which looked really really good of course the Credo minifigure looks really good as well and so many fun things with this set you had the mode this is like the biggest moss eisely set they've ever released at least Mos Eisley cantina you had the bar you had a little place to musicians to play you add the Han and grito at the table where you could have once you first now you had another little room off to the side as well so this was a really fun set and all kind of folded into a nice little square for storage I suppose now you can fold out for play you also had a very nice and well done Luke's LAN suite again like I said the design isn't that much different from how it was back in the 2004 set but this is a very nice and refined speeder at that so in my opinion 2014's best set was the moss eisely Cantina I'll do the sand crawler ain't far behind the best model of 2015 came out on January 1st 2015 and nothing ever came close to touching it this was the year all the force awakens sets came out we even had the Imperial shuttle tydirium in the middle of 2015 and you guys know how much I like the Imperial shuttle didn't even touch the set it's the UCS slave one it just recently retired actually after about four years on shelves and I think as time goes on people are gonna start to realize how great of a set this really is I think if you didn't buy this set you are really gonna regret it in five years I think this is the best slave one that Lego will ever create I don't think I'll ever top this I believe this was another one that was done in May figure scale again you can correct me if I'm wrong but I think that was like kind of the thing when it was being released is that it was a minifigure scale he had a nice usage of stickers on this set to kind of finish off some of the painting on it and some rounding parts that on the windshield there looks really really good the windshield of course could be removed for you to access the interior we could place Boba Fett you have Han Solo in carbonite which you can place up under the overhang there of course the turrets on the front end move you have some missiles I can come up the side and the wings on the side also rotate with the ship as you rotated you also have a stand with this set so you can actually display it in flight mode which is very nice as well so this is the best set of 2015 hands-down 2016's best model in my opinion came from rogue one we didn't really have any good UCS sets that year UCS office so yeah that was 2016 but to me the best set of that year was the ATS T Walker this again was the most refined ATS T Lego has ever put out it looks incredibly clean give a nice cockpit area of course so many figure selection is based off working on suit like Chewbacca or anything but not too bad with Bay's Mabus and one of the rebel troopers and then of course the eight CST driver and for $40 it was a really good deal in my opinion so that was the 80s the best set of 2016 we have just two years left and the best set of 2017 you can't give it to anything else really it was the UCS Millenium Falcon this thing was a big comeback of course it would dwarf the old UCS Millennium Falcon as far as price and peace count of course the amount of detail on this set was incredible and way more than what they had offered back in 2007 ten years prior to the release of this set of course you had both the sequel trilogy and original trilogy versions you could make of the set with the different radar dishes what was really cool is you actually got many figures from both eras as well so man this is one of the best Lego Star Wars sets of all time if not the best Lego Star Wars set of all time just depends on who you ask so that leaves us with just one more year and 2018 is that year what was the best set of 2018 well to me that's gonna go to the betrayal at Cloud City this honestly might be the most controversial choice on this list let me know if you would have picked something different for 2018 but I think this was just one of the best place that's Lego has ever put out you had so many different rooms and areas in the set you had almost 20 minifigures I think it said you could create so many classic scenes from Cloud City in Star Wars Episode five that I just couldn't not make this the best set of the year like the slave one included is incredible looking it's like a very scaled-down ucs model looks so cool of course we got our first best bang cloud car in like 15 years in the set as well and again just look at those minifigures so many minifigures Han Solo with side leg printing dual motor legs you just oh my goodness the Luke Skywalker was incredible as well in the cloud car pilots are exclusive to this set and they are really really nice and let's not forget Lando Calrissian he looks pretty charming too but this has to be the best set of 2018 the only counter-argument to that in my opinion is maybe the TIE fighter or the ucs y-wing but in my opinion they just wants over-the-top with Cloud City that I had to give it to it let me know in the comment section down below if you would
