Leaving My $1875 NYC Apartment… Forever

i'm moving [Music] oh that's the final box it's been like weeks and weeks of boxing and packing i also bought too many boxes but we've got eight of them here in the kitchen 11 out here in the hallway and the hallway closet 17 boxes here in the bedroom and then this tower right here this is 26 more boxes 26 plus 62 boxes i think i told the movers it was 40 boxes [Music] we moved into this apartment in 2017 it's rent stabilized the rent was 18.25 when we got here it's only gone up 50 bucks since then it's obviously not like a brand new luxury apartment that's for sure and the reason we're moving is for my daughter's school which isn't in this part of the city look at this bedroom this is absolutely monstrous we have a queen bed we got the crib over there over here we got some more stuff there is a closet and then over here there's like a sofa and stuff so great bedroom again kind of ugly kind of old and i don't know if you can see this awful plaster job here we had a couple accidents there stuff crashed into that paint peeled i tried to fix it and to get to the bedroom there's like this hallway again we got this full of boxes and look at the kitchen it's really long and narrow you could have put a small table in here if you wanted but you know we just filled it up with junk these shelves we're keeping they're gonna go in the storage unit that's in the new apartment we're doing the whole move today so we'll get to see the new apartment which i think is actually smaller than this the kitchen here is a little quirky we've got this metal countertop those are kind of an older design but when we moved in the landlord did give us a new stove that was nice we've been kind of hard on it but hey we used it the cabinets don't have a door i took the door off because look at this they've got so much paint on them they just don't close completely well that one does and then we got the living room this was pretty good we were able to fit our table a whole bunch of other stuff i think moving out of a place like this you feel like you're making a mistake because the rent is just so cheap it's so affordable but it's not like the apartment is my reason to exist here in new york it doesn't control my life it's great while i had it but if i have to move for some better purpose i guess it's what you have to do and that's the hard part about going from something rent stabilized to two full baths and we got laundry i know laundry we're so excited i'm not excited about the rent but i'm excited about the laundry windows are big and the kitchen it's good [Music] doesn't look like much but i'm finally gonna have a little place to work where i can like do stuff these lights are probably in the completely wrong position but for now this is something that one i wouldn't leave on if i were filming something it's just so that if i happen to be over here there's light this is like the most exhausting part you spend all of your time packing and we did that over a three week period so it wasn't like all at once but today it's like getting all this out of the boxes we're not even let me show you this room's probably going to stay like this look at the kitchen table that's a mess and then look at our hallway oh man these boxes these were the ones that we packed up last or first rather so we can open them last look out the window right there that big building that's one world trade we actually have a view of a prominent building in new york every apartment we've ever lived in had a view of absolutely nothing but this you know is better than nothing there's also this insanely bright street lamp across the street it's like coming right in the window this is today's video by the way see i work hard to do this stuff so i don't think we're ready for the proper tour yet but you know we're getting most of this stuff out of these boxes kitchen it looks pretty good it's small we've already pretty much packed it but this is also our first dishwasher apartment it's a small one but it'll work but yeah we've just got stuff everywhere this is gonna take days and my only other complaint is we don't have medicine cabinets that's not what that is we have a medicine shelf but look at this we've got some little lights and the water pressure it's not as great as i would have hoped it sounds like it's okay now but when it comes out of the shower it's like weak for some reason we have a hot water heater in here but i'm not a plumber maybe i need to like adjust that thing but i was able to set up the internet anyways hope you guys had fun subscribe so you can see
