I Stay In A 5 Star Hotel In New York - I Was Shocked!

today I'm in New York and I'm about to spend one night in a five-star luxury hotel now this hotel doesn't need much introduction it's probably one of the most famous hotels in the whole of New York right by Central Park it's been in countless movies one particular movie which I think we all know about guest of the new celebrity Ding Dang dong stay at the world-renowned Plaza Hotel New York's most exciting Hotel experience I'm going to be spending One Night in The Plaza Hotel in New York to see if it's really worth that five star status come [Music] on Wow check out the Christmas tree I forgot to mention they actually put the decorations up only just yesterday I filmed this um Mid November wow love the classic New York lift amazing first thing you're going to notice about this hotel is that it is stuck in a little bit of a Time Warp as you'll see by my room in just a moment and also take note of the interesting paintings Henry VII a young version at this chandelier love this carpet though almost looks like it's gold leafed is that amberin I don't know but what's annoying me is that photo is not straight I've got to do it oh no it's just hung like that how very odd anyway here is my room well the room is pretty spacious I've decided to go for a tower room which also has a circular bed because I thought it was pretty cool rather than the bulk standard Square rooms I was hoping to get a view of Central Park which is the other side of the hotel I haven't got that I did request it but I didn't get it by the way I will tell you how much I paid for this room at the end new probably be very surprised but let's check out the room you don't notice that when you walk in it's not until you walk out you notice that nice touch Plaza there and all the door handles have got Plaza on them the lights come on the Posh hangers branding look on point on the hangers but this room feels very old I mean the first thing that struck me are these chairs now I'm always up for retro stuff and Classic Furniture but they look like something that's been pulled out of a skip I apologize if I have offended anybody out there but I do not like these chairs they are kind of comfy and what you've got here is like a little mini living room so you can uh watch the Telly cuz you can't see that telly from your bed at least I don't think you can now is this suede where it's oh no it hasn't been know that is just worn in fact that's dirt and there's dirt all on the arms and when you look closely there's stains all on them awful and I would say the same actually um the carpet in here isn't as nice as it is in the hall to be fair but anyway enough about these These are something that my nan used to have years ago but I just can't get over how um how dirty and how stain they are before you say this is how they're supposed to look but just for a moment look at the chandelier in here and in the bedroom that is pretty special again old England photos this also seems fairly old to be fair I've got a little marble coffee table and uh a wet bar again Furniture pretty old um obviously all this is marble maybe it's because it's old but that doesn't look polished to me unless that's kind of stained the glass but really really the mirror looks really really dirty in fact it looks like splatters isn't that or is that like Stained on there so it can't come off I don't know got a couple of glasses an ice bucket I also have a private bar even the menu's got a few stains on it so we're looking at $9 for a Coke chocolate chip cookies $12 okay so where is that obviously it's going to be oh got a microwave five-star hotel but a microwave from the '90s love it and then you got some sweets and that's that's where the cookies are I'm guessing the mini bar is here there we go everything in the mini bar you could want do love the Grand Furniture though it is pretty special I mean look at the detailing on that obviously this was where the VHS used to be back in the day if you're quite young you probably won't know what a VHS was ow course got have an overhang so we got a huge TV I did have to ask for some water to be put in my room because I went downstairs and said should there have been water and they said yes there should have been water but there's no water but so they did bring some up oh there's another big wardrobe space here oh there's no logo on the slippers in fact have we got any um we got any robes or did I miss them in the other one that is a huge iron here shoes and some laundry I can't have the full Home Alone 2 experience without a robe on don't you get them with this type of room for the price unan I thought I would have done antique furniture look at that but again can't help but feel it is really dirty and grubby and stained luxury art book wow oh it's all about the Plaza Hotel little notepad do like the desk with the leather lovely lampshade I do like the oldfashioned style curtains as well I've got a little bit of a uh a window there but it's the bed what I really like about this room how this sticks out on the side of the hotel and look at that almost makes you feel like you're staying in a um in a windmill back in the UK with that roof how it sticks out like that love that and the chandelier now I almost half expect this bed to spin round but it doesn't it does look very Grand very Royal look at the embroidery on the pillows very nice love the lamps let's have a look at the view outside look at that straight away noticed big stain there looking at me hello New York obviously can't open the windows let's go around the other side Central Park is literally just over that side again this seems really old style doesn't it so let's do the bed test oh wow Echo that sounds really weird I tell you what looking up though that looks amazing and is it wrong to say I'm kind of of freaked out about the chandelier right over the bed like that now in my last few videos people have been saying you haven't been checking out the mattress and I normally do it off camera I don't like to do it all the time just cuz it will just get a little bit too probably annoying but let's check out a round mattress see what it's like ooh dear like a pretty old retro mattress that I if the camera picks it up cuz it's overly bright hang on but there is uh there is sand all in the mattress there like sand and congealed yellow sand so the bathroom and this is probably my favorite part of the room I really do like this a lot like how this wall is kind of angled a little bit but the uh the Mosaic on that that is one one very low bath though I know it sounds strange to say but that feels really really low like you're almost right on the floor sunk in look at that wonder if that's actually really goldplated nice little shower head never been in a hotel with one of these before so you can put it over you and grab the soap and do your stuff in the bath but look at the sink look at that Plaza logo all around the side I've never seen that before and I've never look at that what I let down that is not mine and I love the fact when people say you plant those hairs well my hair is not that long so that's a little bit of a shame that's not my hair lamp shades on the wonk love the mirror free stuff vanity kit shower cap what's this oh body lotion couple of flannels glasses tissues and there's the hair dryer notice all the floor is all tiled Mosaic as well here is the L No Frills in here I guess it doesn't need to be at least it's to the point and there's also a foam just in case you run out of L roll you might get the need to say can you get me some champagne please thank you look at the fluffy towels though love that and then we've got a shower as well so we've got a bath and a shower bath foam shampoo and conditioner there is some soap in there again more gold what looks like gold anyway but a pretty small shower you could probably only get about two people maybe three at a push but the rest of the hotel I have already had a look around and it does look totally amazing let's go check it out I thought these were pretty cool as well cuz you can dim the lights by pushing that down which is a a nice touch don't know what it is about the hallways but they're kind of a bit sess cuz there's there's like nothing on the walls unless they it's almost like they've just finished painting but haven't put anything on them yet well that room looks special wonder why that's like that look at the Christmas decorations though aren't they beautiful it's got these stairs I really do love the style to this hotel though look at this bar up here shame this isn't open look at that is this like a Bookshop hi hi wow you're a big book shop yes big books this is a book yes wow that's handmade that is amazing how much does something like that cost 15,000 that's 15,000 these are just crazy love that so unless your name's down you can't go in there only for hotel guests but you can come into the lobby and get your photo taken by these amazing Christmas trees and that chandelier is incredible let's go and take a look at the bar area cuz this is amazing I mean look at that that is incredible I was looking at prices earlier so a glass of wine here is around about $40 we do do some food in there but let's have a walk down this way the Oak Room Oak Room and bar down here so apparently there's um private residence here so people can have have their own I guess apartments and this is the restaurant oh don't seem to be open the lady said that was the restaurant down here M and M there got the famous people whove stayed at this hotel at the beats the shops the plaza and the food Hall Todd English well that doesn't look open what's going on why is said maybe this is open a different time the Plaza Food Hall shops oh maybe I'll have a look at this in the morning maybe it's closed now so at the moment I I can't really find much of a restaurant wonder if that's open love these Christmas trees look at that they are beautiful well this looks open there's like a shopping mall in [Music] here you may have found the ballroom wow so this is the ballroom I've kind of just walked in here no one stopped me wow look at this so it's an awards ceremony for a radio station in New York I just nobody stopped me I just walked in there cuz I thought well I wanted to go and check it out so I'm at the Palm Court bar I thought I'd get myself a cocktail one of their fam cocktails oh the cherry blossom sounds good so they don't have a full service restaurant here so you can actually order food at the bar or in the Champagne Bar it's mostly snacks and uh sandwiches some beef sliders on there salad some soup cheers wow that tastes [Music] amazing not sure about the edible flowers but definitely going to try something like that in my next Carver that cherry then I'll give it a kick it's lovely okay so I did go downstairs and actually talk to the manager and say look the mattress is really bad and I've spent a lot of money on this room I'm quite surprised that there's sand in the bed and you know it's full of whatever they've moved me to a suite I'm not going to give you the big room tour because we've already done that I'm kind of gutted because those round rooms were very unique but they have moved me to a suite I said you really don't have to just please just give me another room or at least two for the mattress cuz there was a lot of sand in that bed at least I hope it was sand rather than anything else but this has got a um bit more of a view which we'll see in the morning but just check this out God knows how much this is a night probably a lot more than what I've actually spent but the bedroom and the living room amazing and I'll just quickly show you the bathroom with a bath and a robe there were robes in my other one as well look at the size of that shower amazing it's fair to say that I'm a lot happier with this room I will check the mattress as always but uh you know what because I've been moving rooms it's actually now got really late so uh I will probably get my head down have a shower and I'll see you in the morning this just doesn't seem to be my night so I really want a nice hot bath I've been running this uh hot tap for 10 minutes and the water is barely lukewarm so do I need to put a switch on or something in here I don't get it taking absolutely forever like it's been on 10 minutes and it feels teid now I mean it's finally got hot but it's still I mean you can see my hand is underneath it and I like to have a nice hot bath but it's still not hot it's just the shower seems to work so you could say it's because I'm quite high up but I'm on floor 13 now rather than floor 18 I didn't try the hot water in the other room to be fair and all the cold water that I did put in the bath is now taking forever to drain come on that's just not going down down like really slowly no word of alive there wasn't actually that much water in it and it's been 10 minutes and it's still not going down look okay closing it that's opening it morning so yeah I've got a view of Central Park looks beautiful this morning okay let's talk breakfast so breakfast is included in my room right and and there's uh two different places where I can have breakfast I can have it in here or I can go and have it in the Champagne Bar or actually in the other bar as well downstairs so um I'm in two months cuz the last time I had breakfast to the room it was cold so I think I'm going to go downstairs let's go well if you have seen the movie Home Alone 2 you'll remember there's a scene where he is in the pool there is no pool here but there is a spa um and it's on level four let's go check it out wow look at this so you just use your card and then you can come in there's the gym and obviously can't film in there the spa but it's not open yet anyway that is a big breakfast menu light breakfast complete breakfasts and speciality breakfasts so the way breakfast works is that you get a $60 credit and so you can order whatever you want off the menu and if it comes to more than $60 you pay the difference so I've gone for um two Sunnyside eggs bacon CID hash browns and a coffee can't believe I'm actually having breakfast in here it's crazy thank you very much the only thing I was gutted about was the fact that I wanted a cup of coffee when I woke up this morning at 6:00 a.m. the restaurant doesn't open till 6:30 so I couldn't get a coffee in the hotel at all they directed me to the Starbucks which is literally just a block down there crazy right a hotel like this you thought well you could easily get a coffee there's nothing in the room to get a coffee with I would have thought there'd be somewhere in the hotel I can grab a coffee at 6:00 in the morning but no not until the restaurant's opened at 6:30 so yeah I had to walk to the Starbucks since the first time I saw Home Alone 2 in New York I'd always wanted to come to this hotel and if I'm being honest well it's not really like it is in the movies I was a little bit disappointed with my room I felt like the furniture was really old and dirty the hotel itself obviously is a classic New York Hotel so it is very dated but I think that's what gives it its chance there is no swimming pool in there like the movie I didn't use the spa but the fitness area looked pretty good so cocktails last night were expensive I think it was $30 for that cocktail that I had last night I understand that the food court has been closed for a long time and they're going to change that space into something else it was pretty cool to go and check out the ballroom while I got the opportunity the amount of times I've done a video and I've seen stuff in the room that I actually haven't said anything before but because I spent so much money on this room I thought well I'm going to say something and I'm glad I did uh the the room they gave me was probably over $2,000 a night in the end so how much did I pay and I'll tell you this in pounds it was $1,418 to stay in that Tower room now obviously there are rooms slightly cheaper than that in there but obviously I wanted that kind of Corner Room experience so I'm gutted that they had no more rooms like that but I wasn't going to complain with the room that they gave me I was really annoyed though last night when I wanted a really hot bath because I've been walking around New York all day and I couldn't even have that in a five-star hotel I rang up somebody and said look the hot water doesn't seem to be getting hot uh nobody came to my room the shower did get hot eventually but for some reason the bath water just stayed tepid it just didn't get very hot and it took for ages to
