learn the proper way to bathe a dog we didn't condition her cuticles are open right now they're ready to receive dirt and grime again conditioner will help you get rid of tear staining conditioner is also a Degreaser I can come in with a comb remove that stuff dispersing this conditioner moving it through each strand all right all right how about I just show you all my professional secrets so you can get professional results at home and save time now every bath starts with the dog being safely secured in the tub and I use the tub leash that I designed it goes across her one leg through we put the middle of this o-ring and right at her shoulder blades bring the other side underneath between the two legs and crisscross and back through the loop now we've just created a harness that's not going to pull on Buffy's trachea dogs when they're in the tub they often pull to get out of the tub and this is made of paracord shock cord it's mildew resistance mold resistant and it's waterproof and they are linked in the description of this video email the contact person and the video because they're handmade we're going to position Buffy get her secured safely in the tub she's hooked now we're ready to learn Proper bathing shampooing and conditioning and the benefits of that so the bathing starts with shampooing and we are going to be using two products today that I hope you take advantage of trying they're Linked In the description below I am affiliated with petals and Tails you can get 15 off your order every time you order if you take advantage of using the code and the link in the description below so we've had the shampoo for quite some time they make different sense this is the rosy Rose we're going to use on little Buffy today these are high quality shampoos hemp pet shampoo pH balance all natural the ingredients are very natural and there is CBD oil in here to help improve any skin issues that may be going on here behind the scenes maybe something we don't know about with Buffy promotes healthy skin and coat and it also helps to improve healthy skin and coat we're going to be using the rosy Rose conditioner from petals and Tails and thank goodness they just came out with these conditioners they are fantastic we have to dilute these products now it doesn't say on the bottle to dilute them but I dilute everything you want to experiment with all of your products and get a dilution ratio that works well but rinse as well one of the reasons why dilute is is rinseability so I can get the product back out of the coat another reason I dilute is because we're wasting product if we use it straight up full strength we'll just be wasting and this is way too thick we don't need that thickness boy does it smell good you want to smell it but so we want to save product and we want a product to easily rinse from the coat if we use this straight up it's going to take us a lot longer to rinse it out of the coat and it's very important it thoroughly rinse every dog some of you don't have a great situation and set up for rinsing so you certainly don't want to add to that dilemma by not diluting your products so I have mixed the conditioner I mixed it 16 to 1 which means I had about this much product and the rest was water you shake it really good and then your conditioner is ready now I'm going to show you a very unique way to apply your shampoo so we want our water lukewarm not hot not cold let it run for a second or two and make sure it's going to be a consistent temperature for you and I'm going to wet Buffy's skin and coat you definitely want it wet to the skin okay it's very important so it can soften up anything in that skin that needs to be lifted from the coat with the shampooing process good job Buffy good in there oh boy oh boy rinse those eyes good just turn your dog good Buffy we're going to be showing you a way to use your shampoo that's going to push your lather to all new levels and save you product there too very important I want you to grab a bathing loofah get one of these they're like a dollar let it be for your dog this is your dog's bathing Looper I want you to wet that bathing loofah we've already wet the dog shake your shampoo always shake your products before you use them we're going to add about a teaspoon of product get it nice and lathered in that loofah look at that guys this is what we want and we're going to begin washing Buffy and this is the best way for you especially at home or if you don't have a bathing system and you're a professional this is the best way to wash a dog the loofah acts as an exfoliator as well as it produces great lather in our product so that's important because we want to be able to disperse this all over Buffy evenly and effectively good girl what our shampoo does guys shampoo and conditioner do two different things shampoo cleanses the coat we want a good effective gentle shampoo that's why I'm choosing petals and Tails It's very effective but it's very gentle so our shampooing is going to cleanse the coat then we got to come back in and thoroughly rinse the shampoo off this is where a lot of people make mistakes they put the conditioner right on top of the shampoo the job of the shampoo is to collect the dirt and grime through the surfactants that are inside the foam boosters of shampoos yes that is science it's a chemistry thing you have to trust me on that once we allow the shampoo to adhere to the dirt and grime in the coat we let it sit for about a minute two minutes so that the surfactants have a chance to adhere to the dirt and grime but as you can see I'm moving Buffy around by the time I get back around to her I can start rinsing that side it's already been a minute or two so that'll be just fine for that shampoo sit time and I don't want shampoo sitting on the dog any more than about two minutes that's it just a couple minutes you just have to allow this surfactants to do their job when we get around our face I'm going to use my hands to wash Buffy's face because I want to be a little bit more accurate you can use a loofah but I'm going to choose to use my hands add a little more water because Buffy has shook a few times and some of that water came off of her good girl baby and I'm going to just get the product and this is a safe product to use around the eyes not in the eyes we don't use any products in the eyes none ever and I'm going to start massaging this all through Buffy's face now how do we shampoo the face we get the shampoo in our hands we come down off of the eyes and this is the same way that I will apply the conditioner and you'll see that in a second we come down off the eyes good Buffy so we're not putting soap into the eyes we're putting soap in front of the eyes and coming down off the eyes so that we are sure to be washing that area we do have to wash it you can clearly see she gets a lot of build up there and that's normal she's a white dog and a lot of our white dogs definitely shows tear staining I'm going to tell you a secret about tear staining when we get to the conditioning process so is everybody on board with the idea of why we leave the shampoo sit for a few minutes to collect the dirt and grime so now it's time to start rinsing I started shampooing her hair I'm going to rinse this side first because the shampoo set on that side of her longer we're going to thoroughly rinse and then the magic is happening and that's conditioner good Buffy so while we're rinsing we're rinsing off the dirt and grime that the shampoo has collected and it's going away as we rinse the shampoo so that when we come back in with our conditioner which has magical powers and we will talk about that our conditioner is conditioning a thoroughly clean coat that's important that's one of the biggest reasons why it I say no never apply the conditioner on top of the shampoo the shampoo did its job now we got to let the conditioner do its job to add moisture back into the skin and coat to seal the cuticle to help prevent matting and when we seal the cuticle through the conditioning process because we're balancing out the cuticle that's actually going to add a lot of shine and luster to your dog's coat it's going to brighten the coat because we close the cuticles the cuticle is the hair itself that is the cuticle is the hair shaft itself tilt your dog's nose down so you can rinse off them I have her nose protected when I do that close the ears rinse off the ears if you need to rinse that cheek push the ear shut and gently rinse the cheek same thing over here push the ear shut hold it shut and you can rinse there you don't want to get water in the ears but in case you do that's the reason why I clean the ears with air cleansing solution after the bath in case any water got in there all right guys Buffy is rinsed now it's time for the magic the condition now I can clearly feel you can hear this squeaky clean but it will be dry if we didn't condition it this coat is completely stripped of dirt and grime and oils that's what the shampoo was meant to do and it did its job right baby now we got to let the conditioner do its job and that is to put the moisture and hydration back into the hair into the coat balance out the skin and coat seal the cuticles so that they are closed and not open if we called it good right now and got her out and dried her her cuticle each hair would be like a frayed looked like a feather duster it would be frayed when we seal the cuticle it is now solid closed and when we close that cuticle it does not allow dirt and grime back in after we send the dog home if we didn't condition her cuticles are open right now they're ready to receive dirt and grime again and we don't want that remember we're setting our dogs up for Success when we bathe them and that's why we always condition every dog every time I don't care what anybody says always shake your products again even though this is diluted when you pre-mix your shampoo or conditioner you could have applied the shampoo like this in the same manner by diluting it I like using the loofah it's much better this is only good for today's use I'm a professional pet groomer I'm going to use this on probably about three dogs small dogs you at home you would probably only want to mix about this much which means you would use about that much conditioner in the rest water and Shake It heavily you have to dispose of this because once you add water bacteria is in water and that bacteria will now start to breed and Brew if you let this sit for a day two days three days a week you have bacteria in here that has multiplied and bred other bacterias you don't want to put down on your dog's skin so only mix what you're going to use for that particular bath and throw the rest out you'll get good at determining how much you need for your pet so we're going to begin I start on the top of the dog and gently these are the Hydra mixing bottles I'll link them in the description I like them because they oh the smell this smells so good they're very accurate and where we're applying the conditioner always condition your dog's throat area that is actually an area that has a lot of sebaceous glands so you're going to want to balance out the skin and coat there for the top of her head I'm going to add a little on here good Buffy I'm going to seal that down in front of her eyes add a little bit here in her beard it's very important to get the conditioner in these areas you can let it do its job conditioner will help you get rid of tear staining if you condition every time every three weeks you bathe your dog you may find that the tear staining starts to lighten up why because the hair cuticle is closed we've cleansed it with shampoo and now we're closing it so no more staining can get in there over time you may find that the tear staining really lightens up a lot every time you bathe your dog you're closing that cuticle again so it can't invite more staining in as that grows out the staining may start to subside and that is really the only way other than diet that you can change tear stains in a dog don't forget to condition on the armpits down the legs here's a big tip in the pads of feet your dog can get real grimy in there in those pads of feet conditioner is also a Degreaser so any gunky stuff build up dogs can get some pretty nasty stuff going on in the pads of their feet conditioner is a Degreaser and it adheres to that I've seen dogs cocker spaniels come to mind right away that have matted nastiness in here it's like it's I don't even know what it is it's build up excessive sebum hair they lick it now it's got bacteria in it and how I remove that is I put a lot of conditioner in the pad of the foot let it sit we want our conditioner to always sit on the dog for about at least five minutes okay and I'm going to show you something else I do when the conditioner is sitting around your dog's bum that's an area that gets real grimy be sure to condition their condition everywhere the whole entire dog after this sits on her for a little I'm massaging it through so by the time I work my way all the way around Buffy and I've conditioned everywhere now I'm going to pick up a brush and do a little bit of detangling gently this process is going to change how your dogs feel how they look your brush outs will be different because you've balanced the skin and coat if your dog has a lot of build up here after this conditioner is set for a couple of minutes I can come in with a comb and gently this is just the fine side of a cone and remove remove that stuff gently and she says thank you you're welcome Buffy your tools are very important too guys now I use this artero flexible Slicker brush there's a dark side and a white sign I use the white side in the tub I'm very careful to apply no pressure on my brush but I can now begin to gently brush through especially the areas of Buffy that has longer hair like her tail her ears I'm going to gently brush in the lay of the coat gently dispersing this conditioner throughout her she still has the conditioner on guys this is just moving it through each strand of her coat so that it can seal it I'm applying hardly any pressure at all the skin is wet it can be easily damaged when it's wet so you want to be very careful if you're using a brush or comb on your dog's skin in the tub I'm letting the brush do the work and you're going to pull out dead hair now Buffy doesn't have a lot of dead hair but certain breeds would if I was de-shedding a dog right now I would be getting Globs of hair out because of the conditioner the conditioner is the secret we're going to gently just work down Buffy good girl Sweet Pea she is actually a Havanese in case you're wondering but I'm really mainly for Buffy today I'm worried about just evenly dispersing the conditioner that's why I'm brushing this through by the time I'm done brushing it through gently in the areas I need it's time to rinse the thought of leaving conditioner on a dog for five minutes sounds like a long time but you're busy you're brushing now look this has got a little bit of tangles in here we're gently going to work with that good girl Buffy separated a little and by the time we get her back out on the table to dry I'll be able to brush right through that so I just worked that conditioner let the conditioner do its magic then we're going to come back in and thoroughly rinse Buffy and then she's ready for the drying process and here's what a lot of people don't realize they think when you condition because we've been told this for years when you condition you're adding time to your drying process your dogs will not dry as fast that is not good advice and I'll tell you years ago that was the scenario everybody felt that way because conditioners years ago were not good they were real globby thick they were not made from ingredients like the petals and Tails or eye groom products or nature specially they weren't made with sunflower oil coconut oil avocado oil CBD oil they were not they were just globby nastiness emulsified products that's why conditioner didn't do Us justice in the past but those days are over we now have good products and conditioner changes everything in our Grooms and our dogs will dry faster because the cuticle is closed the skin and coat is balanced we don't have an abundance of grime an abundance of oil because we've removed that with the shampoo since the coat is balanced I promise you it will dry faster and I'm going to show you how long it takes me to dry Buffy today so that is a myth that is no longer true we do condition every dog with the products we have on the market today we get tremendous results the myth is the conditioner takes longer to dry our dogs that is not true so I'm going to show you that guys it's time to rinse we rinse all the product off so the shampoo set on her for about one minute maybe two minutes and then we rinsed it the conditioner sat on for about five minutes at least guys let it sit on there work it through and now it's time to thoroughly rinse the conditioner off thoroughly you do not want any product left in the coat some people may ask me how much of the conditioner do I leave in when do I know that I've rinsed enough of the conditioner out you want to rinse all of the conditioner on you don't want any product left in the coat ever it's going to add buildup and it's going to collect dirt if we leave product in when you see the water running clear which right now it is not we are not thoroughly rinsed I start rinsing from the top down let gravity do its work the thing is this guys once we let the conditioner on her for five minutes we let the conditioner do its job which was to rehydrate the skin and coat as well as balance the skin and coat and seal the cuticle close the hair cuticle remember each cuticle is each hair since we've allowed the conditioner to do its job for five minutes there is no reason to leave any product in this coat we already let the conditioner do its job which was to balance out the skin and coat and seal the cuticle there's the logic behind that guys years ago hairdressers used to tell us to leave some conditioner in our hair when we were rinsing that's only going to cause it to be greasy and cause build up quickly that's bad advice and that goes for our dogs too people would tell us to do that for our dogs so now the water is definitely starting to run clear I can see we are just about rinsed here but we want to make sure all is out of the skin and coat if we leave conditioner in the skin and coat yeah it's going to affect your drying time because you've left product in the coat rinse it all out we let the shampoo do its job we rinsed it out we let the conditioner sit on for five minutes we let the conditioner do its job now we're rinsing it out very important let the products do their job and then get them out of the skin and coat okay that's one of the biggest secrets to bathing let the products do their job and get them out of the coat another thing that I always do to speed up the drying process is I use absorber towels to towel the dog off so I can remove as much water as possible from the skin and coat helps with the drying process so the next thing I'm going to do here with Buffy before I tell her off clean her ears in case any water got in there during the bath we're going to use a safe ear cleansing solution that will flush that water out so I use the bark to Basics you like that baby this is uh has no alcohol in it uses witch hazel which is very calming and soothing to the skin you want to saturate a cotton ball with it I'm going to squeeze it down in there and just kind of wipe it out her ears actually look pretty gosh darn good don't they look great but we want to get that fluid down in there and massage it down their ear canal goes down and forward so we want we want some of that to get down in there that way when she shakes her head that stuff will come back to the surface and if we need to wipe it out we can same thing over here that's just a little wart guys or something something itchy so we're going to squeeze that down in there we're going to massage it down through and wipe it out and let her Shake now I'm going to use an absorber towel they are you wash them roll them up damp if they dry out you just add some warm water and squeeze them out and you're ready to go and we're just going to start squeezing the water off of Miss Buffy good job this is going to definitely speed up your drying time and I'll go through her completely you can wash these in the washing machine do not use fabric softener bleach and do not dry them you roll them up damp after they're clean if they dry out you simply add hot water bring them out and start drying your dog they're Linked In the description below I love the absorber towels I've been using them for years now ever since I've been affiliated with them they sent me a couple to try and I said I'm on board with this product can you get me about five of them I want them they're like would you like to be an affiliate nice and I think my audience would love this product so absolutely so it is like a giant sponge guys absolutely dry them everywhere get those ears dry good job little feets good Buffy if you're working on a big dog you can wring it out and continue drying your dog I'll show you what we got on a buffy here Buffy stand back I don't want to get water on you this is just what we got out of Buffy but can you imagine how this is going to shorten our drying process when we blow dry fluffy absolutely now I can continue after I ring it I can continue to pull more water out of Buffy's coat yes until we're gonna shorten that drying process and make this wonderful for Buffy getting the armpits getting those little feet pulls all the water right out of the skin and coat so it's definitely helpful good job Buffy so guys I want to show you hi this is Buffy up close and personal we have very balanced skin and coat we're going to see a shine on this coat like you wouldn't believe when she's dry I want to show you what's in the tub I told you the shampoo and the conditioner remove dirt and grime and oils you can see that brown tinge to the water and Buffy wasn't even that dirty some of that is just oils but the shampoo collects the dirt grime and oils rinses it away and the conditioner adheres to grease too so both these products together have removed the dirt and grime from Buffy but without the combination of the conditioner and the shampoo working together we do not have a balanced skin and coat so I always trim the nails after the dog gets out of the bath and right before I dry them Buffy goes for a lot of walks so there's not a lot for me to trim so now I'm going to turn my dryer on my stand dryer and I'm going to start fluff drying Buffy gotta let that warm up for a second I'm going to start fluff drying her ears and then I'm going to force dry her but what I want you to know is what time it is it is 120. 121 to be exact okay so now we can say yes we are literally right now starting the drying process good job I'm going to use a half moon comb to sort of stretch dry right here around her eyes straighten out this coat a little bit and I'm going to use my artero flexible brush with the white side to gently start brushing and fluff drying Buffy's head but I I do go through the dogs one more time when the coat is still damp like this with a Slicker brush this helps to remove dead coat especially since our conditioner has balanced out the hair cuticles themselves so I'll easily be able to remove any dead Coke Buffy doesn't have a lot of length to her coat right now so we're probably not going to see a lot of dead hair in the brush but depending on your dog and the breed and the length length of coat you will I want to focus in on this little mat here that Buffy has so if we separate this a little it's okay Buffy I'm just separating the hair I'm going to come in here with my brush it's okay baby good job and we're going to gently yay so we're gently going to pick that dead hair out of there we separated it with our fingers good Buffy and now we're gently going to pick away until we remove all that dead coat that was just sitting in there causing the mat it's wound around the good coat how the mats happen it's not a severe mat but I we can't leave any mats in the coat you know that's a No-No so we have to get them out I'm protecting her tail by holding the hair her tail is behind my thumb so I'm only brushing hair because you can definitely injure a dog's skin with a Slicker brush if you're brushing too hard especially when their skin is soft because it was just in the tub it was just wet so it's very hydrated right now so there you go good job Buffy I'm holding the hair so I'm not pulling Buffy's hair we can just gently pick out the rest of that little mat that was that was dead hair that's all it was I like the heads and the ears and the tail to be fluffy so I tend to focus on those areas with the stand dryer and then I'll move along and start horse drying her after I get this all nicely brushed out and fluffed and the hair is separated then I'll come back to this one more time at the end and fluff dry her ears her head her face and her tail so they're nice and fluffy stretch trying just take your comb and lift the hair and let let the dryer dry it this dryer is set to warm and it's not on hot it's warm enough to dry her hair though that's the important thing and it is a commercial grade stand dryer so it good capabilities of controlling the heat there's also an airflow vent over here open it add more airflow or closure and the force dryer I'm using has some settings it has a speed setting it has an on off switch and then a heat switch so what I do for a dog Buffy size is I turn it on I go to half power in order to turn the heat setting on this has to be at half power that is a good setting for a small Dome I do not force dry their head or their ears I do all that work with a stand dryer and you will see me often moving my stand dryer around to position it in different areas so that I can get her her ears and her cheeks and her eyes and her top not dry good job Buffy you want to hold the dryer about an inch from the skin if your dog has longer hair you would hold the dryer away as long as the hair is long so if your dog's hair is that long that's how far away from the skin you hold the force dryer Buffy's got a short coat right now so I'm just about a half inch from the skin and because I did choose the warm setting I have to make sure that I constantly move this dryer and not hold it on her skin it could get hot good buttons so we'll check the time here in a second foreign and see how long it took us to drive Buffy all right guys it has been 12 minutes and Buffy is dry I am still like she's like Hey I'm trying over here I'm gonna fluff out her ears and her face but she is dry and her skin feels amazing her coat is well balanced I will give you an up close look at that here in a second that is one cool shot Marilyn Monroe this stand dryer that I have is an ademco they do not make them anymore so I will link something in the description that is similar and comparable I'll also link the force dryer in the description if anybody's in the market for a force dryer that adjustable sweet horse dryer is so nice you can dry if your dog is very very small you can adjust the flow down if your dog is very very large you can crank it up it's a very versatile dryer good job Buffy hey guys Buffy is all dry she's ready for her haircut you can see that her eyes look cleaner they still have some staining and hopefully we can start preventing it because we're conditioning her every time but you'll notice how shiny her hair is is so well balanced it it shines it's like the light is reflecting off of it her skin and coat is wonderful it's fabulous she feels amazing yeah so you're giving kisses to the camera good girl Buffy her Kell is all demanded looks great you look beautiful Buffy yes you do good girl now that you know how to properly bathe condition and dry your dog I'm inviting you to watch one of two videos the first video is a teddy bear trim which is the most popular haircut for any dog and the second video is more on Des shedding with conditioner and how to properly de-shed your dogs Buffy and I thank you
