this is daisy daisy's a bijon she has not been groomed and oh it's been a couple months daisy's mom actually suffered a pretty bad health problem unexpectedly and daisy was unable to come in and see me that's going to make our groom today more fun because it's going to be quite a transformation i'm amy lee i am a certified professional pet groomer since 2003 i am also a content creator on youtube i have a youtube channel called go groomer and on that channel i bring a new voice to the pet grooming industry one that includes pet owners as a valuable consumer by sharing my secrets of the pet grooming industry on my youtube channel it allows me to give pet owners the opportunity to provide quality care for their beloved pets at home increasing value to their pets lives as well as increasing the bond they share with their pet it's pretty awesome she's not matted she's slightly matted in the ears but not bad we can work through it especially with some good conditioning spray like this banish and i like to use this flexible soft slicker brush this is by artero i'll link everything in the description guys if these are products that you're interested in so getting daisy secured on the table nicely we're going to begin brushing her before her bath so that i can be sure that i can get a beautiful clip on this girl today i'm gonna just spray a little bit of banish in her coat and we're just gently going to take our time and brushing daisy out she's a very soft coat and she is a bijan we can easily get this nicely brushed out before the bath good girl daisy the banish spray is a conditioning detangling finishing spray all in one really nice spray it really makes it easier to brush out our dogs when they may be a little bit in over need of being brushed so it makes it easy and daisy is a very touchy dog so if if this was hurting her she would let me know she's very vocal and she's not tolerant if something bothers her which is nice for me because it lets me know if she's comfortable or not she will definitely let me know she's my good girl another benefit to using a brush out spray when you're doing routine brush outs with your dog is definitely that that little bit of moisture back into the coat actually closes up the hair follicle and makes it easier to brush out if you can believe that it's very true also adds a little more elasticity to the hair so that it's more pliable and we can brush it out a lot easier easier for us easier for the dog more importantly so we'll get daisy all brushed out here and then we're going to the tub after she's brushed out and i always check my work with a comb if i can get a comb through the dog then i know we're all brushed out so now we're going to focus on daisy's little ears and her head now her ears they are a little bit matted you can see that so i'm gonna put a little bit of spray in there i'm just gonna kind of loosen up that a little bit we brush first we never go for a comb first that's just going to snag in the coat it's not going to do anything and it's just going to pull the hair and it's going to make your dog mad so always brushing off the ear leather the way the the hair grows and lays off the ear and then and as you can see it's brushing right out and the dead hair that we're getting in the brush that's important this is what causes the mats so we are taking that out of the coat so we have a beautiful healthy coat to start with when we bathe the dog which is the first thing that we're going to do for the groom the haircut is not the most important part of the groom guys it's the skin and coat care so and then you want to move the hair around and out of the way and you'll find more areas that need brushed out flip that little ear over and brush straight off the ear leather and that's how you make sure that you have done a good job of brushing your dog and when you can get a comb through it like this you did good you did good too daisy gently brush back off the top of the skull having a decent brush and a nice brush out spray will definitely get this done gently and easy for your dog and for you so we're not you know frustrating our dog and we're not getting frustrated during our brush out good job days gently good daisy good girl so we're going to be using some new tools today this is the first time i'm actually going to try the kenji flash 5. this is a brand new clipper i'm so excited about this it's a 501 clipper one of the cool things about the new flash five kenshi designed these really nice guard combs that easily attach to this clipper as well as they are universal to other five-in-one clippers such as the wall rivera and the shern bayo i believe and as well as the wall arc normally i would use a detachable blade clipper such as my wall km10 with my stainless steel guard combs made for detachable bleed clippers so light that i'm really anxious daisy is a small dog very little dog so this is a low vibration clipper as well as its low noise and it's very lightweight so it's going to be very comfortable to the groomer trying today for the first time as a brand new pet comb they requested to send it to me and i checked out the product and i was like yeah i definitely want to review this product the company is chicago comb this is made in the usa these are pet combs this is a brand new product for them this is an anti-static carbon fiber comb it's very light it's easily used in the tub as well as on the table with grooming it has your coarse teeth as well as your fine teeth so i'm excited to use this today with daisy too and let you guys know what it's like i will link all the products today that i'm discussing and using in the description of this video so if you're interested you can go check them out and purchase them for yourself because they're available to you too and the comb is going to have a discount code if you like what you see go pick it up it's a very affordable comb [Music] daisy's all brushed out and ready for her bath this is all the coat that we removed from her the dead coat that we removed during our brush out and you can see the dirt buildup that's what dead coat's supposed to do it's supposed to collect that crap and it did and now we've removed the dead coat from daisy so when we give her a bath it's going to be very effective she's going to get a good clean and i always condition every dog i'm going to show you how we mix up the conditioner right now we're also going to be trimming daisies little nails you see how long they are guys it's been a while since they've been trimmed no problem we're going to trim them we're going to make her a lot more comfortable i trim the nails after the bath they're less brittle after they've been in the tub with the water less likely to crack and be brittle so we'll be trimming those nails in a minute now we're going to mix up our conditioner i'm using this easy shed which she's not a shedding breed this is a wonderful conditioner and i can use it on all coat types it's just very nourishing and does a good job so this is made by nature's specialty it does dilute it dilutes up to 24 to 1 means 24 part water one part conditioner believe it or not i don't measure i know by the consistency of it after i mix it if it's right i'm going to put in and she's only one dog so i put in about this much conditioner now i'm gonna add warm water to that and then we're gonna shake it up that's good it is important that you do dilute your dilutable products because then they will perform the way that they are supposed to perform for you on the dog but also now you're not wasting product that's important shake it up real good guys we used warm water not hot not cold good daisy and now it's ready and we pretty much made like a froth which this is going to be wonderful i'll show you in a second so now it's time to bathe daisy i use a prima bathing system which is basically like a giant frothing machine it's wonderful it produces a foam that's me that's shampoo water and air mixed together in the prima bathing system and there's no better clean i have been grooming for 20 years and i've tried so many methods of bathing dogs this is the best it also rinses so clean and free from the coat so we're going to i'm going to save the head for last because that's the part they least enjoy and we're just going to wash completely wash daisy with the prima bathing system you'll be amazed how quickly you can wash your dogs with this system and effortlessly so no more hand scrubbing good girl daisy it rinses so quickly from the coat anytime we shampoo a dog we always want the shampoo to be in contact with the grime and the dirt for about four or five minutes okay guys so that it can the shampoo can adhere to the dirt and dander and really get your dog clean so for her ears i just hold them down yep i know same thing over here i am going to wash her face with a gentle facial wash we're going to be using one by eye groom today so i wait to do that and while i wash her face that allows the shampoo to sit on her and do its job so make sure your water is just lukewarm not hot not cold good girl days and i'm just going to wet this area she has a lot of buildup here guys you can see we're going to take our time and we're gently going to get rid of that in the tub shaking up our eye groom this is a tearless facial shampoo we don't need a ton of product that should be plenty and we're just going to start massaging this around the mouth and the eye area because this is safe in that area and it does not burn the eyes that's why we're using it i test these products on myself so that's how i know that they truly do what they say this does not burn my eyes good job baby we don't want to rub it into her eyes but we're just loosening up all that debris there she had some buildup here in her mouth so daisy i'm just going to try to separate that a little bit and i'm going to show you how we remove this stuff off of her face the easiest and gentlest way to do so so i want that to sit on for a minute or so so it can soften up all the build up that we're trying to remove then we're going to take the fine edge of a comb and we're gently just going to slough that right off guys look and it's just coming right off isn't it days i know it's gross but that's the easiest safest way to remove build up on your dog's mouth and eye area when you're bathing them it's the safest time to do this i am using a safe tub leash on daisy so there's nothing pulling on her trachea dogs will often pool when they're in the tub and try to get out and if they have something around their neck especially a tiny little dog like daisy could really bother her trachea injure it as well as it makes it hard for her to breathe so these tub leashes are handmade and there is a link in the description an email address of where you can get yours custom made they come in different sizes depending on the size of your dog we're going to start rinsing her body and then i'll rinse her face daisy again lukewarm water guys never hot never cold lukewarm that means just warm not hot and i don't put conditioner on the dogs until they are rinsed because i want to rinse all that out there i want to rinse any dirt off of the coat and out of the coat before i condition them it's very very very important to condition every dog that you groom even if it's your own dog because it puts moisture back into the skin and coat and it will keep the skin and coat balanced and healthy and also help you people think that your dog will not dry as quickly if you condition them that's not true if the coat is clean and conditioned and well balanced it dries just as quick and balancing the skin is very important guys so don't skip the condition tilt the nose down and cover the nose when you rinse it hold the ears against the head so water cannot enter the ear and rinse your dog thoroughly guys rinse everything off your dog it's okay baby girl [Music] and now it's time to apply that conditioner good job you can get these mixing bottles i'll link them below they make it easy they make it easy to apply the conditioner and because we diluted it and shook it up and sort of frothed it it stays right where we need it to do to be it doesn't run down the drain i let the conditioner sit for about three four minutes i want to make sure it can get in to the skin and soften it and do its job even those little feet get them all moisturized this is a nice product so take advantage of getting your paw pads and everything nicely conditioned and hydrated hydration is important good job girlfriend you can comb through the ears while the conditioner's on this will actually help to detangle those ears a little bit better we thoroughly run stacy with lukewarm water and then we'll get her out of the tub good daisy rinse from the top down and let gravity work the product off of your dog good daisy cover the nose good girl i use an absorber towel to dry all the dogs that i grim the more this towel absorbs the drier it makes the dog and it can hold three times its weight in water they're easy to clean they're linked in the description below if this is your first purchase of an absorber towel and you click on the link you'll get 15 percent off i traded in my towels for the absorber towel that is what i use on all the dogs good girl good job honey which is the best way to dry your dog clean the ears while the baby's still in the tub boy she feels squeaky clean you feel clean and you smell good my favorite ear cleaner is by bark to basics and it contains witch hazel so it's very gentle and you saturate a cotton ball and you squeeze that down into the ear and gently wipe only as far as you can see and you massage it down in there so that when she shakes good girl that will bring everything to the surface and if there's any dirt or grime in there you will be able to wipe it out with a clean cotton ball her ears are nice and clean to begin with i'm going to trim her nails now while she's up on the table after her bath i'm going to gently gently go through daisy's coat thoroughly with the lay of the coat and brush her with this gentle flexible slicker brush gently because her skin is wet so it's very soft right now and we've already pre-brushed her there's no tangles in this coat so we're just seeing if there's any more dead coat that willingly would like to come out so we can get the most beautiful groom on this dog it's okay daisy it's okay you're a good girl i know she doesn't like her feet messed with but she's tolerating gentle daisy good girl gentle it's okay look how long these nails are oh i can't wait to trim them she has a little wart right here she is an older dog i believe daisy's uh 12 or 13 years old little warts are gonna happen right daisy that's normal if you do this step guys of brushing your dog again after they're exiting the bath before you dry them your dog's coat is going to be amazing and we did still get some dead hair after the back now we're going to trim these nails i start with the back legs i like my dogs to be comfortable standing and well harnessed on the table so they can't spin around it makes them feel better when they're safely secured on the table i'm going to gently pick daisy's foot up and use my finger to tip this foot back so i can see and i'm using my finger my thumb to isolate each individual digit and when i see a little pink dot because she has a clear nail we're going to see a pink dot just like that i can't go any further if her nail was black i would see a black dot and i can't go any further i would like to because they're so long but then i would stand the chance of clipping into her quick and we don't want to do that to daisy right daisy she don't do that to me gentle hold that out so you can see it good daisy now daisy doesn't like this but she's tolerated she's snip she's snarling saying i don't like it but i respect you because you're respecting me and she's allowing me to trim her nails though she doesn't like it daisy has a dew claw so i'll get a hold of that with my finger and my thumb and trim that wow good daisy and make sure she knows that she's a good girl yes good daisy it's okay yeah you're doing good i know you don't like it honey she also has a little bit of arthritis so you know handling her feet is probably a bit uncomfortable for her so i'd like to get this done as quickly as possible for daisy's seat yes we got one more let's stand up nice and proud good hold that out don't bend on the foot that would hurt good daisy oh you're gonna feel so much better with these nails shortened up i know good job it's okay [Music] good daisy i'm using a stand dryer to dry daisy and i'm just gently going to fluff her as the warm air dries daisy bijans dry very easily especially if the skinning coat is well balanced which it is because we used good products in the tub and we conditioned daisy as well her skin looks amazing and if you fluff your dog while they're drying your dog will be fluffy if you just let her dry her hair is going to dry curly and we want her hair to be as straight as possible so i can get a beautiful nice precise trim on daisy she's going to look gorgeous when we're drying here in front of the eyes [Music] we like this to be as fluffy as possible so you just simply take your comb and pull it up as it's drying and it'll dry nice and straight same with these ears just gently brush off of the lay of the ear always brush your dog with the way the coat lays not against the grain not like this like this it would damage her hair follicles if you brush against the lay of the coat contrary to other beliefs they should brush every coat with the lay of the coat the way the coat lays naturally good daisy all right guys we're going to try the kenchi flash 5 clipper i have attached the half inch comb which is the number 13. we are going to start trimming daisy we're going to see how this is the first time i'm ever using this clipper i'm very excited so we're going to turn it on i have it set to three speed and we're just going to oh wow like butter coming down behind the base of the skull and this is a pet trim so i'm going to trim daisy's legs and her body the same length this is doing fabulous it feels fantastic what do you think daisy good job hold that tail out of the way and you can get on the inside of the legs here nice job baby girl nice job just doing great and guys if her coat wasn't perfectly prepared with all the brushing bathing and brushing and conditioning we did this wouldn't go through her coat no clipper would so if you're having trouble clipping your dogs it's because the coat's not prepared for clipping and don't forget my course which teaches you the very basics of dog grooming is linked in the description if you're interested in learning that it's a wonderful course we've sold over 200 of them i guess and i'm getting nothing but good feedback [Music] coming up and scooping off under the throat here good days oh don't be so mad at me don't be so mad at me yeah you put those teeth away don't be mean don't be mean daisy good girl you want to keep those ears out of the way we don't want to shorten that every now and then we have to remove our guard comb and depack our blade if you're having this this is going to affect your clipping so you just take a brush and remove those little hair particles from inside of the teeth of the blade slide your comb back on and we're back in business and that's normal especially on a fine coat like daisies to have the blade pack like that daisy's older and her legs do have arthritis especially down at her joints so i will go ahead and do what i can with this clipper but i will end up having to do some scissor work to tie all that together because that'll be more comfortable to daisy this clipper is fabulous absolutely fabulous love it holy moly i'm loving it good days i know you don't like it honey hey no biting good girl good girl okay i'll be gentle with you girlfriend you know that you know i'll be gentle with you okay daisy no bite i'm going to use the 22 which i think is three quarters of an inch on her head just to set the length on the head it's gonna be a lot easier for me to scissor this is just setting the length and then i will scissor it together this is doing a nice job i really like this clipper i'm using it on a setting of number three which is the speed it's nice and quiet daisy's an older dog she certainly does not seem to mind this one bit whatsoever around her face right daisy okay bless you good job girlfriend and this just makes it easy to set the length guys i can scissor it all together but now i know the length is even and i'll be able to easily scissor it together that's a good girl now i'm going to set this to a 10 right there and i'm going to trim right here in the corner of daisy's eyes daisy it's okay just especially because she gets so much staining there i'm just in an inverted v shape gonna clean this out so that she stays cleaner longer around the eyes you saw how much buildup she had before we bathed and groomed her today so this is going to keep her cleaner so we can see her beautiful eyes too same thing here on the on the just on the earlobe i'm just going to clean that up vent the ears she has very healthy ears so i'm not worried there now we're going to trim her little belly and i'm going to come right up to about the navel she doesn't have a lot of hair here so we're just tidying up that's all i'm just going to hike this little leg up and i'm going to go towards the vulva and clean up you can see all that brown stained hair there it's just going to clean all that up same thing here good daisy girl towards the vulva good and lastly we're going to clean up around her anus so i'm just without pressure just letting this clipper gently remove the hair around her bum so that it stays cleaner longer this is a 10 blade setting now i'm going to clean my blade i'm going to switch it over to a 30 and we're going to do the paw pads right daisy your favorite i'm going to use a little cool care run the blade clean it up let that sit for a minute let it run through the blade and wipe it off and that's a disinfectant as well i'm going to work in these paw pads we're going to set to a 30. this is a very short trim of the 30 and she doesn't have a whole lot of hair here but we're just going to trim away what she stands on and she does have sensitive feet she's letting me know that i know daisy i hear you girl we we trim in an inverted v shape at the big pad because there's a tendon right there that looks good to me daisies it look good to you good job this little foot gently just grays off daisy you're fine good good girl what she will be standing on believe it or not dogs can get mats in the bottom of their feet and you may not know that gently good pull back on that pad okay daisy i know she's really not wanting me to work in here so i'm going to be very gentle good daisy that's a big girl now all of our clipper work is done and it's time for the scissor work so i'm going to comb everything forward and i'm going to hold her mouth shut and i'm just going to take my shears straight and tidy up what's hanging over her nose good and now i'm going to come from corner of the eye to corner of the eye straight not tilted back and just trim her visor comb it forward again you'll see more hair sticking out and we're going to do that one more time good job and now i'm going to angle this right around here like that good right around here now i'm going to comb everything on top of her nose up and i'm just going to round it out of her eyes good days and try not to get in the way of the camera all right so now she can see better take my jonathan david blending shears just soften that in front of the nose then it down so she stays cleaner longer under the eyes top of the head here we're going to blend this down into the neck i'm using my sapphire shears made by kenji this is my eight inch curve that i love so much and we're going to shape from above the ear to above this ear tilting the nose down a little and we're just blending in from the length on the neck to the length of the head and we're going to round this like this we already set the length with our guard cone so we're just tying it together good daisy and i want this ear the hair on top of the head to blend in with the ear i don't want to see a distinction good daisy now we're going to comb everything down and we're just going to kind of make a u-shape to the base of the ear a little bit we're just rounding that in good days same thing here comb everything down and lining up with what we the work we just did on the other side i've linked my shears in the description below guys they are wonderful good daisy you're a good girl come everything back now we can see what we need to take off that cheek just get that out of there a little bit to make everything look nice and round feel pretty girl days are you a pretty girl you sure let's make sure both sides are even lay that ear back just tidy that up look good daisy our coat is very soft so it's it's a challenge to scissor we're going for a nice round shape you want to get everything combed out of the lips because sometimes that stuff will stick out when we're done and sending the dog home and say oh that looks terrible hold the mouth shut then i take my blending shears and i'm just going to soften all the lines holding her mouth shut i'm softening all the lines that i just scissored so if i have any scissor lines they're going to disappear you see how soft that is this is how you get a flawless finish i use blending shears on every dog that i give haircuts to just blend down into that ear a little bit so everything blends nice and lays soft i'm going to trim her ears here in a second daisy you look marvelous you look mama yes you do pretty girl honey good you blend this hair down on the back into the neck so it lays real nice and transitions nice in those areas now we're going to trim these ears and i'm going to hold them out straight and flat and bring them to the front of the nose and i'm going to trim them to be even with the front of the nose okay girl you can let the ear hang naturally and just sort of tidy it up and curved shears make this nice and easy to do keep your dog looking straight hold that out with straight to the nose and that's how much i'm trimming off let the air fall and now we tidy that up to match the other ear i can also just measure by the length that this ear is bring my shears over and say yeah this stuff needs to go having your dog look straight not up or down straight here's going to be a challenge but these are some good tips guys to help you get those ears even and matching i have her looking straight ahead good daisy and i think this beautiful little head is looking good now i'm just going to touch up the edges as they hang with my blending shears so they don't look uneven or rough or or perfectly scissored i like everything to kind of look as natural as possible just scissoring with my blending shears good job days good job always watch that tongue i have a hold of her chin so that she can't turn around and and get cut that would be very unpleasant for everybody including daisy now it's time to scissor in the body so basically i've set the length with my guard combs so anything that's sticking out or not just that the guard comb couldn't reach correctly or obviously she has a little bit of yeasty westy legs i'm going to try to hide that a little bit with my grooming good job girl tidy up in that armpit area a little bit i'm still using these curved shears guys you can use these are flippable see they have the pinky rest on both finger and finger hole so that you can flip them keep the foot on the ground i'll pick up the back leg try to keep her from picking up her front leg which i could see some stuff in that armpit there but this will keep her from picking up her feet i'm just going to come around tidy up that foot you can also pick up the opposite leg and then she won't be able to pick up the leg that you're working with good job daisy come everything down good job days we're just trying to make this leg look kind of like the shape of a pillar so i'm only taking off what hair is obstructing that shape i'm going to tidy this up here around the rump stay good days the inside of the leg take that in a little bit tight to keep things clean in there good daisy comb this down and just tidy up on top of the tail lift the tail tidy everything up so it just looks kind of natural like a nice little round butt like a nice little round button stay good girl stay good girl your comb is very important when you're doing scissor work so you're combing up scissor down good job baby same for this front leg keep that foot on the ground okay we're gonna come around good i picked up her other foot because she's gonna wanna pick that foot up and move and it will be harder for me to scissor so i picked up the opposite leg good job comb everything up and our snap-on comb is already set the majority of our length so we're just scissoring off anything that is obstructing our little shape that we're after you can pick the foot up and trim around them carefully these pads are very easy to nick so is this little knuckle right there so always be aware of the anatomy of your dog good job girl also i'm going to remove her leash here and i'm going to tilt her little head up and i'm going to comb everything up and i just want to blend right under here nice and round so when she her head is tilted up it all flows together nicely they're so beautiful daisy girl is you're my pretty girl she's looking good now what i'll do is i'm basically just going to go over her entire body with my blending shear and anything that i don't like i'm going to blend off so it looks natural and then daisy is done and beautiful right daisy done and beautiful let me just check this out this foot looks a little a little uneven never rush your scissor work because you could cut a dog guys these scissors are so sharp good job girl i always notice what my opposite hand is doing because that is what gives me the ability to keep the dog working nicely for me it's very important yeah such a pretty girl that's a pretty girl now we're gonna come in with those blending shears guys and just blend off anything that isn't looking good and it's just gonna make it look natural and i'm scissoring with my blending shears i'm not going in and bulking out or anything like that i'm scissoring top line take a look at that anything that's uneven just gonna blend it off tidy this up good job baby always watch what my other hand is doing so important this is one of my favorite shears the jonathan david blending share it's a called lightning by jonathan david made by kenshi you can get it on kenji's website i will definitely link them below they are my favorite shears i've been using them for quite some time i really love them you are so pretty always lift the leg up as if they're taking a step so you can see what it's going to look like when they're walking and if any hair is going to pop out that's a good tip right there look amazing adorable as always you do yes you do good job honey i think daisy's going to get a red bow today because it's christmas say i'm such a good girl i am so beautiful hey you want to get down for a second sugar cookie scent to go with our shampoo i like to just spray it on the ears [Music] good oh my gosh that smells good put a pretty little red bow on daisy's collar i don't want to put it in her ears because i think it's going to matte up on her so we're just going to put it on her collar for christmas beautiful potty daisy girl daisy you gonna go potties let's go amy lee i am a certified professional pet groomer since 2003 i am also a content creator on youtube i have a youtube channel called go groomer and on
