hello welcome to escape the Box piano it's Dan here in this tutorial we're going to look at a reasonably accessible Boogie Woogie piece the piece is actually taken from the joy of Boogie and blues I'll provide a link to that in the description below this is Boogie number one the book is a great book of increasingly difficult Boogie and blues pieces uh well worth picking up a copy if you're interested in either of those genres let's get going okay here's middle C and first of all we're going to look at the left hand so from middle C we're going to go down one octave to C below middle C and then another octave here like many Boogie pieces this is based around a 12 Bar Blues and again like many Boogie pieces it's in the key of C let's look at the pattern that we're going to be playing in the left hand but your fifth finger your little finger on the C itself and your thumb on the [Music] G in the middle we're going to play an E flat and then an e in succession we're going to play the C and the g twice and then E flat and e with a third and second finger together that sounds like this [Music] and the great thing about Boogie is we can take that pattern and we can simply move that around and repeat that pattern and the Hand shape looks very similar when we then put that down so we were on C and we're going to move that up so that our fifth finger is on F now and then our thumb is on C third finger on a flat leading up to Second finger on the [Music] a there's the F and the C A flat and a [Music] and then we can take that up one note so fifth finger now on the G thumb now on the D third finger on the B flat and second finger on the B you should practice that pattern a lot and then practice moving between those three positions between [Music] c f and g it's a worthwhile left hand pattern in itself [Music] take some time to get familiar with that pattern and to be able to move around quickly and accurately let's take a look now at a right hand pattern from middle C we're going to start on G with our second finger and we're actually going to start the melody before we even come in with the left hand pattern we're going to start on G and then a and then G then C then G then a then e and then [Music] g i play that again and it's when we get to the g at the end of that run that we come in with the left [Music] hand goes around twice in the left hand we then continue in the right hand g a g c e g a b flat and as we hit the B flat come back in in the left hand with the pattern on C [Music] at this point move our right hand up to Second finger on c one octave above middle C c d c f c d c now play E flat meanwhile having moved the left hand pattern to the f F position with the E flat over the top we're going to play the F pattern again and move down to [Music] C let go of everything so play that [Music] together so from the beginning of that run everything comes to a stop in the right hand we continue same position second finger on c c d c e flat c d c e natural and as we hit the e natural left hand comes in back in the C [Music] position that run [Music] again we now move up to third finger on the e e f g apologies that's just off screen and then back down to f e d c d and then I'm going to hit the D left hand is going to be in the G position let go of everything move the right hand down g b d [Music] c as we hit the C the left hand moves to the F position lift everything off f a c and then e and C [Music] and as we hit that chord of e and C left hand comes back down to the C [Music] position so that run all the way through from the e f and g [Music] and we can now repeat the entire piece that we've just learned so I'll play that through at a reasonably slow speed the [Music] the [Music] really you can Loop this as many times as you like and then to finish the final time that you've played [Music] it you can simply finish [Music] with and for good measure play the C and the G again with a B flat and a d around middle say [Music] so so again that's [Music] ending okay hopefully you have absorbed everything from that tutorial of course we know Boogie to be played much more lively than the walkthrough I've just given you um as a stretch um depending on your ability I'd suggest maybe about 100 beats per minute that sounds like this and see if you can get it up to that speed here's what it sounds like at that [Music] a [Music] I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial if you have please do give it a like leave some comments and don't forget to subscribe for more great tutorial videos I hope that I will see you again soon
