so I let my yard get too long which I don't typically do but we actually had some rain and I've just been so busy that I haven't been able to keep up with the real mowing when we had a bunch of rain with that so today I decided be probably a good opportunity to test out a rotary mower since I let this get overgrown and also put a striper on there and see how that does with this rye grass so you're used to seeing this striped up but can you do it with just a regular push mower and have it look somewhat similar to the real mower we're going to find out [Music] also a very quick lesson on lawn striping for those of you who don't know it's simply the bending of grass blades and light reflecting off of those so if you think of a material like velvet if you brush it one way it looks lighter you brush it back the other way it looks darker it's the same thing with grass there's no magic trickery going on here no different types of grass no different heights of cut nothing like that is happening it's simply the bending of grass so when you have a roller it helps to really roll that grass down in the direction that you're going and the light reflects off of it better and especially also with a rotary mower it's helping you to lift that grass when it's getting cut and then rolling it over so that's what we're going to be doing with these striping kits that we're using and this is the Lawn Striper this is generation three so I've been using the Lawn Striper for a couple Seasons you can get this for your General Normal push mowers and it just rolls along behind you these guys are just a couple of guys who love Lawns who love striping who started this and they're nearby me here in Wisconsin since I've been working with them for a couple seasons and today we're going to be looking at the generation three so this one is new and improved it has some actual grooves in the roller to help better grab onto that grass and roll it down and also these are available now for many of the battery powered mowers you can check out all the different ones on my website in terms of which ones are compatible with this but now that we have so many battery-powered mowers on the market they wanted to make sure that they have a system here that works for you guys as well so I'm going to be trying it on the Milwaukee today all right so in this kit you're going to get some of these clamps like this and these are going to be what clamps around the handlebars and we'll show you how that angles down here in a second then you're also going to have these inserts these are custom to the size of your handlebar because you would think we could just make this all easy and everything would be the same but on each different brand but that is definitely not the case so they had to figure out which ones are which sizes and then it's very important when you do order this that you make sure you have your correct model because that's going to depend on this little thing here to make sure that it fits perfectly on your mower okay so on this bracket you should have this teeth on the outside it should say up here and then these are those inserts fit perfectly around your handlebar then you'll have two of the shorter screws come in from this side and there's a locking nut on this side so right here and then there's going to be a piece that goes over this that fits in those teeth and then we'll have a longer screw going through this right here foreign [Music] hopefully you can see this clearly now you want to make sure that these angle bars go down towards the mower and they're not sticking back towards your feet because that's going to be where it places the roller and if you haven't go back this way the roller will be back where you need to walk so they need to go at an angle here and you just have to adjust this bottom piece for width so whatever it happens to be on yours you can adjust it so that these fit in there perfectly and then everything just gets tightened down and now we need to fill it with sand get some weight in there put it on here and try it and since I just realized I don't have any sand except for in my old uh other generation of the lawn Striker I'm going to take this and see if it's dry enough to pour out of here into the other one maybe for a while so one of the nicest things about this system is that is easily removable and there's a good reason for that because if you've ever used a system that's fixed on the back of the mower that's fine but I like to go around and trim first and be able to get into areas and not have to back up with that striper on there and so especially that and also just turning around this is going to follow the mower so if you go around curves it has this Pivot Point here that allows it to actually move around the curve and it's not just fixed and dragging on the grass so that's one thing that I really like I'm gonna go and do my trimming right now and then I'll put that on there and show you what it looks like [Music] all right [Music] [Music] you can see I definitely needed to mow and so side discharge Shooters it does fit on there no problem but there's too much grass coming out here I'm gonna have to bag this so the nice thing as well is that this will fit a bagging system and you can leave that right on there and both of those can work just fine together [Music] foreign [Music] mowing at one inch where that's the lowest setting the mower will go if you have some taller grass than this as well the more it's going to roll it down the more the stripe is going to be even more profound and looking really great but honestly this does not look much different than being real mode especially when I'm cutting that low but the stripes look fantastic out here and I'd be perfectly happy with that if I decided I just want to go the rotary mower route but I want something to add some extra Stripes to it foreign so I haven't done enough extensive testing with this yet to see how it affects the battery life but as far as does it feel like there's anything major heavy behind the mower no I'm not even noticing really that there's any weight there and since you're only on a 22 inch the amount of weight behind there is not really extreme in this roller even when you don't have a whole lot of weight in a roller is just as long as you're rolling the grass down behind you it's still going to leave a pretty good stripe just wanted to comment on that because I know a lot of people probably are wondering what these battery powered mowers they're a lot lighter will it feel different I'm not really noticing much of a difference in terms of the feel foreign so the question is am I giving up my real mower no I'm probably not going to but if you have a regular push mower you want some extra defined Stripes this is definitely the tool for you so check it out on my website if you want to learn more about this we have them available right in the store thank you so much for supporting small businesses a couple of guys who had a good idea and turned it into an awesome product want to thank you so much for watching today as well we'll see you next time [Music]
