[Music] these are the days and everything's still possible [Music] hey guys welcome back to the channel uh today we're going to talk about the newest addition to the farm here which is uh the tractor we finally pulled the trigger on a on a kubota it is the first thing in my life that i've ever bought brand new off the lot so we went with the kubota it's actually it's not an la 765 so for those of you that are looking at buying a tractor the numbers on kubota's can be a little bit deceiving and i'll explain to you this number that you see right here is actually for the loader it's not the actual tractor this is a l4701 and if you go to kubota's website it'll actually make your head spin when you're trying to figure out what tractor is right for me because there are so many models uh so many variations a lot of them look the same and it's just hard to wrap your head around i would encourage you to go to your local dealer and ask questions um and i'll go ahead and give a shout out to another channel on youtube uh it's uh messick's i watched a ton of their videos um they sell kubotas and uh that guy over there that does videos he does awesome videos lots of information um and you can learn a lot from from there but this is the l4701 uh there are four um uh as of now tractors in that series um there's a 25 a 33 a 39 in the 47. so the 47 is the biggest of the of the l series before you move on to the next series which is uh the mx series tractors [Music] one thing you'll notice about the the 47 compared to the other three little brothers that it has is the 25 the 33 and the 39 actually all sit on the same frame they all have the same loader the only difference is the motor that they put under the hood horsepower that's it what you'll notice about the 47 if you stacked all four of them up in a line is the 47 actually sits on a bigger frame um to my knowledge it is the first uh motor in the capota line that goes to it is a four is a this is a 4 cylinder everything else below it is a is a three cylinder 47 horse works out to ride around 40 horsepower at the pto the other reason why i went with this bigger frame tractor is you get the bigger loader um this is the la-765 loader uh it comes in with a lift capacity right around i believe 16 1800 pounds reason why i wanted that is we have trees we have brush that's going to have to be cut down and moved year to year and i wanted to grapple i bought a grapple bucket um grapples are heavy uh they weigh you know four or five six hundred pounds depending on what you buy whether it's a root grapple or a rock grapple there's a bunch of those out there but they're heavy made out of made out of steel so one thing to consider when you're looking at your tractor especially when you're when you're looking at attachments is um when i put that on there it's going to take away from some of my lifting capacity so i went with the bigger loader to kind of compensate for when we put the grapple on there we can still actually pick up a substantial amount of brush so we're going to start with the loader here at the front we're going to go over the quick attach and a couple things that we have on the front but one thing that i want to tell you that i learned through this process um that was i guess frustrating to me but but i don't know i just thought it was interesting i guess the loader is not really considered to be a part of the tractor um it is considered an attachment um this loader actually comes off there's some legs that fold down there's quick disconnects up here you you disconnect the hydraulics there's some big pins over here you pull the two pins out and you actually curl the bucket and this whole loader mechanism will come off of the tractor so you just have the tractor the loader is priced separately from the tractor itself so when you look at your bill and they say the loader x amount of dollars it's not included in the base price of the tractor so i thought that was interesting it's considered an attachment it's not permanently affixed to the tractor itself but so the first thing that we'll start at is here at the front of the tractor um that i want to show you and and this is this is usually across the board kind of standard now on most of the tractors that you're going to see is a quick attached uh bucket meaning that it's not fixed to the loader you can change it out so it in a matter of just i mean seconds really uh you could take the bucket off and change it out uh real simple just pull up here and pull up there you get back on the tractor you curl out and right here this is going to come off and it's going to leave your bucket sit behind the camera here i have a set of pallet forks um that i just drive up to same deal load on to it get off the tractor push them back down and we're back in business we're ready to go so that's a really nice feature to my knowledge from what i've been told is this will fit attachments that will fit on the front of a skid steer meaning it's not a kubota specific uh you know quick attach assembly meaning that if you find something for a skid steer this is supposed to fit it see right here just up there and that is what is called the third function valve well this is actually the connection the valve is up there but what this does is it puts hydraulics to the front of my loader which is needed for the grapple to run the hydraulics on the grapple but also if we have a loader or a i'm excuse me a an auger for fence post we can run it too another add-on that you're going to want to do that i would recommend is this right here it's a bucket level indicator um it's like i don't know 75 or 90 bucks don't be cheap just get it um because it can be hard when you're in the operating station to kind of see when your bucket is is level um so this has a little little notch right here that just kind of this whole rod just kind of moves in and out and it lets you know when this notch right here falls into this cutout on this piece of metal it lets you know that your bucket is level all right so continuing on with the third function valve this is the actual third function valve here this is the valve and the bracket and the whole assembly this is a wr long one thing that you want to look out for when you're talking third function valves is is whether whether or not it's a true third function valve which this one is some of them will actually end up being just like a diverter valve which means that you won't you'll lose some of your movement when you're with your bucket so what i mean by this being like a true third function valve it means that i can actually close my grapple and curl my grapple and i don't lose it versus a diverter valve you may be able to do one but not the other so this is actually a true third function valve it's very very simple i had mine put on by the dealer if your dealer does not offer uh the um wr long uh option um you can order them um i believe they're around a thousand dollars give or take um and you can have it drop shipped to your house and you can put it on yourself i actually watched a video uh on how to do it it's very very simple um it's literally a couple bolts um you know wire you got to do you know a modification to your loader stick but it's very simple basic tools nothing too hard so this is a uh the rear of the tractor here's a three-point hitch um it is a category one uh hitch and um i believe it's it's lifting capacity is like 20 it's either 23 or 2800 pounds it's it's pretty stout and three-quarter inch pins um very basic three-point hitch nothing fancy i will say you know as the newer models come out you don't have chains it's a couple quick um quick pins you pull so you have some adjustment here you got your turnbuckle uh to adjust your your implements you know front and backwards and then this way you can this turnbuckle here will help you adjust it um as far as if you want to get like an angle on your box plate or something another attachment that i got here is what you see is this six foot box plate this is actually made by land pride um and i have used this quite a bit i keep it on here as a counterbalance um for when i'm doing loader work but i just kind of keep it on here for when we're doing uh you know fixing the driveway so another option that you're gonna get when you're looking at tractors is uh what kind of tires do you want um these are what is called an r1 tire or an ag tire um you know it just it's a tractor tire kind of a pretty aggressive tread on them the other thing is going to be an r4 or what they call an industrial tire is also an option um the industrial tire the r4 is is a little bit more money um i mean in the grand scheme of things i think it's like maybe two or three hundred dollars um those are kind of your main ones they have some other variations in there as well i think but on your bigger tractors i think it's more whether you want the the ag tire or do you want the industrial tire originally when i had this track respect i had it specked with the r4 after some research and some discussions with a few buddies of mine that have some tractors they kind of talked me into just putting the regular old ag tire on here there are advantages and disadvantages for it i would say that if you are in the setting where your major majority of the time gonna be on pavement or you're gonna be on you know say some landscape grass that you kind of care about you don't want to tore up don't get these tires get the industrial tire they're going to be a little bit they're going to be easier uh on your turf i believe the other one is a turf tire i think they offer them on the bigger tractors i know on the smaller ones the turf tires you can get them it's basically like a lawnmower tire um but those those industrial tires are going to be a little bit more um they're gonna be a little easier wear and tear-wise on what you're driving on these you drive across your lawn um even when it's dry not so much when you're going straight forward or backwards but if you turn it's going to leave a mark it's going to tear up a little bit of your grass i was doing some loader work out here behind the shop about a week or two ago and where i had grass is kind of just grass and dirt now that's okay i'm gonna put gravel down there anyway so it's not a huge deal but those are some things to consider if you're looking at buying a tractor they're gonna ask you what kind of tires you want on it and you know you're going to have to decide you know what you want when it comes to traction though you can't beat these guys these guys will grab all day long the other thing that they do that i would definitely make sure that they get done and is usually pretty standard is these rear tires are filled with radiator fluid to also add as a counterbalance because all in all these tractors in the rear end are pretty light so you can put have them fill them up with radiator fluid uh in the tires and always keep a box blade or an attachment on when you're doing loader work uh so you have counterbalance because last thing you want to do is is end up with your back wheels off the ground um but definitely uh another option that you want to look at i decided to go with the ag tires and so far i've been extremely happy with them go over a couple of the controls here in the operator station um you know like i said there's not a whole lot to these things um kubota actually makes kind of a so anything that it has orange on it um is going to be related to what drives the tractor so this is a hydrostatic transmission it is not a gear drive that's an option that you get to pick when you purchase a tractor they still offer a gear drive or otherwise known as a shuttle shift or they have the hydrostatic transmissions um there's pros and cons to both um i decided to go to hydrostatically has three ranges it has a low a medium and a high basically you set it to low medium or high whichever one you want to do you throttle up and down here on the floor you have the pedal the rocker pedal and it's forward or reverse and that is it down here on the bottom you've got uh your selector for two wheel drive and four wheel drive and then right here is where you can have to uh you actually have to push down with your heel and hold it and that's going to lock the diff over here on this side is going to be the control to raise and lower your three-point hitch and then right behind here is going to be the switch to engage your pto right here in the center is actually going to be a valve that controls how fast or how slow your three-point hitch is going uh to lower so if you ever uh actually get on your tractor depending on implement implement weight um so if you ever get on your tractor and you're trying to lower your implement it doesn't go down in between your legs it's probably right there you need to adjust that and it'll it'll start to go here is something else that i got with them set of pallet forks uh they're awesome i use them quite a bit even to take the trash out i've put i put the trash can on a pallet and anything else that we have and i use it to take the trash out but uh they're very they're really handy uh picking up stuff um i've used the use the heck out of them so i definitely recommend a set of pallet forks if you're gonna purchase a tractor so this is not a kubota or a land pride product i'm sure as you can guess uh it is a john deere rotary cutter brush hog uh shredder whatever you want to call it um we actually got this from a family member that was gracious enough uh to uh to give it to us they no longer needed it um and so we got to save a few extra bucks on not having to buy one and uh so that was very very nice of them we're extremely grateful for it it does need a little bit of tlc so i've got it sitting in the shop here right now um it was uh sitting out in the pasture for for a while uh so the gearbox was was locked up and uh it wouldn't spin and uh so we were able to flip it over we were able to uh give it a couple of taps and we were able to get it to break loose and now it spins freely um you'll see that uh we do have the pto shaft off i'm just going to go buy a new pto shaft here in the in the near future because the uh the pto shaft the adjustment in and out it's rusted and it's locked up and then the uh the yolk with the splines on it to actually hook to the pto are pretty rusted and messed up i'm sure with enough uh pb blaster and soaking and all that good stuff we could get it to work but um honestly it's uh just gonna be easier to go go down to the old tractor supply and pick up a new pto and be as good as new all right so i'm gonna take you guys out here and show you one of the last things probably one of my favorite attachments so far right there that is the grapple bucket let me tell you something that thing is sweet uh i use it for [Music] more than just moving brush so this is made by armstrong ag uh somewhere down south of me in texas and the guy at the dealership told me uh that he personally owns one personally uses them and he highly recommends them um they are built super stout uh built to work uh the joke that he kind of told me was is they're not near as pretty as the kubota he goes as a matter of fact he goes sometimes the paint's still tacky when we get them in the shop and they don't look as good as a nice pretty kubota one does he says but they work just as good if not better [Music] well that's pretty much it for this video if you have any other questions leave us a comment send us a message on our facebook or instagram page i'll try and uh and answer you some uh questions you know it's a shower tree homestead on youtube facebook and instagram um but the more vlogs we produce you're gonna see more more footage of us using this thing it really doesn't make a life a whole lot easier um as you know we put in some garden beds before we purchased it or we were kind of in the in the process of purchasing this we ordered uh like eight yards of soil and we shoveled it all by hand that was definitely a job that i wish we would have had this for but we didn't so we uh we just did the work but i really wish we had this but now we've been putting in some mulch with it all in all we love it very happy with it have a good one don't forget to like and subscribe to our channel and we'll see you next time thank you
