Kdenlive Vs. Hitfilm Express 2021 | Best free video editors

hello everyone i hope you're doing well in this video i'm going to compare headphone express with k live now we all know that headphone express is a very popular piece of software when it comes to free video editing softwares but on the other hand kitten live is kind of like an underdog to be honest upon comparing both of these softwares i was just asking myself this question how do people not know much about caden live it's an excellent piece of software and it gave a really tough competition to hitfilm express now these softwares are really good choices if you have a relatively low end computer and they also don't take up much storage space unlike most of the other video editors which need quite a beefed up computer so let's get started with the comparison [Music] [Music] both of these softwares differ quite a lot in terms of the interfaces headphone express takes a very simplistic approach with everything to do in one area while on the other hand caden live uses editing windows style like premiere pro and davinci resolve i would say that caden live's interface looks a bit outdated in my opinion while headphone express looks pretty modern now both of these softwares have a dark and a light theme and i quite like that about these but caden live offers some extra themes if that's something you're interested in both of these are highly customizable and can be used with dual monitors without any issues now all in all i would say that hitfilm's interface is a bit more mature and well thought as compared to caden lives as the arrangement of tabs and features feel much more intuitive [Music] well in terms of features i think both of these softwares go head to head both of them have all the effects which you're going to need to make most kind of videos but for features which are actually useful i think caden live is a better choice as it has almost all the features that hitfilm does but it also has some really important extra features like video noise removal spot removal glitch effects etc etc which are not available in hitfilm express i mean technically you have all these features in hitfilm express as well but you'll have to pay some money to get these features as add-ons which completely defeats the purpose of having a free software in the first place but if you're into 3d compositing hitfilm express is better than caden life i mean caden life does have some 3d abilities but hitfilm has enough to it and live out of the window so overall i would say that both of these video editors are pretty good when it comes to features and video effects both of them will get the job done for most kind of videos as i mentioned before now if 3d compositing is not your thing i would say go for caden live as it has much more features and nothing is locked out as add-ons [Music] color grading has never been a strong point for hitfilm express and it's not the case in this video either but honestly both of these softwares are not as good in color grading as compared to the likes of davinci resolve or premiere pro but canon live is much better than hitfilm express as it has tons of image correcting and color grading features you can also apply luts on your footage in caden live and to do that on hitfilm express you'll have to pay an extra 19 to get their luts add-on and if that's not enough caden live also features color wheels if you really want to get serious with that color grading now again hitfilm express also has color wheels but 19 kirin live also features a bunch of video color scopes which make color grading much easier so by now i guess it's pretty clear that caden live is much better than hitfilm express when it comes to color grading [Music] now both the film express and caden live are built for low end computers and they work really well on grow spec hardware and i think they're both equally fast but i did notice that caden live doesn't really make very good use of the gpu it's much more cpu dependent while on the other hand headphone makes use of the gpu whenever it's possible caden live also seems to use more ram as compared to hitfilm express which actually surprised me because i know that caden live runs very well on low end computers too in terms of hardware requirements and i'm talking about hardware requirements because most of us are probably students and we have a very limited budget so we have to make do with what we have so anyway caden live even works on a computer with 3 to 4 gigabytes of ram which has next to no gpu memory so basically you can run it on anything hitfilm also runs on low end computers but requires a minimum of 8 gigabytes of ram with a minimum of 1 gigabyte of gpu memory so when it comes to performance and running on low low-end computers i think both are equally good [Music] and audio is a very important part of the entire video experience so being able to fix and enhance your audio in the video editor itself is a pretty important feature to have so for audio i'll pick caden live as it has tons of audio connecting features in comparison to hitfilm express which really doesn't have anything so basically you'll have to use a separate audio editor if you're using hitfilm express now if you choose to use caden live on linux then you'll be able to use some extra audio plugins which will unlock even more audio editing capabilities and i think that's pretty great well technically hitfilm also has some audio connecting features but then again you'll have to get their add-ons so yeah i'll repeat again caden live is a much better choice for audio so it was a really difficult comparison to make as both of the softwares are really different and similar at the same time so now it all boils down to the end user if you want to do really good color grading and audio corrections but you also don't mind an application which looks a bit cluttered and messy then caden live is the option to go for but if you want to focus more on 3d compositing and want to edit really fast with a modern looking and properly organized interface then hitfilm express would be the right choice now as i mentioned before both of these softwares run really well on low end computers caden live runs on linux 2 and both of these softwares are absolutely free to download so the choice is yours thanks for watching this video subscribe to the channel if you love this
