I was never a big like gift person like receiver for birthdays I was more of like um just having the experience with family and stuff so I I wouldn't say gift yeah but I would say like experience like I remember it wasn't a season I just I don't know I had a lot of good birthdays I just had excuse me yeah he had a lot of good birthdays I gotta give us a Jordan I would say if I had to get the best one I probably got it would say um my mom got me a cake but it was done up like it was like the first time she really got me a cake that was like done up yeah it was in the season and it was super dope I have it at the house still like kind of chocolate say no more steroidized cookies now that's interesting you say that though because like I I felt that way too like I would say like after like 13 14 years old like I just I didn't have that same like excitement for gifts it was more so just like I enjoy bringing it in with the with the fam with my peoples my homies like I didn't even care about gifts even on Christmas season so it's always like in the beginning of the Season yeah it's always like if you could get the experience and that means everything more yeah the gifts and stuff we had a position where you know like it is true like my mom said what do you get someone who has everything who has everything yeah it's kind of hard so that's my family yeah what was it something that you appreciate then I really had nothing so I was at that point I would probably say uh little things mean a lot probably I probably say like back in the day my dad and my mom got me like an Xbox I think it was Xbox three yeah can't go wrong there 360. well they went wrong with Xbox but you can't go wrong with a new system oh you do have that PlayStation pgs right yeah and we make them we used to make them in 20s we used to make them in 20 so but I gave them all out hello hearing you remember I was a Nike and I sent you a video of me throwing a Jersey this [ __ ] sent me a video throwing my jersey around here though I get the video no he was there he was sending it to me the video I remember the exact things I said they should have sent this out with the Super Bowl runner-up shirts that's cold for none of that [ __ ] P hearing that you messed your go-kart up in two weeks is so fitting because if people only knew the amount of just random stories that I've seen this guy driving anything it's dangerous so you only have a two weeks for a good time up the P is for push it to the Limit pushing that [ __ ] so in the nflp quarterbacks are known to get their offensive lineman gifts does that same type of principle go in within an NBA locker room and Carl this is a good question for you too do your teammates get you any gifts on your birthday so no one's gonna get you no like I I was going you wasn't lying I was going that's that's where I like our my recollection of how we met yeah and our days of going back like um I remember I remember that day you came over because at the time he was he was meal prepping this [ __ ] was working on yeah I was cooking I'm trying to tell you oh he was getting sweet he was getting ready for the [ __ ] ESPN body ESPN body magazine sick yeah about seven seven was when we really like locked in we got locked in at eight was like because what year is this I wasn't really like I was just trying to figure my [ __ ] out first and then I came back for my second summer it's going on eight or going on this is about to be my ninth one because it's going going on nine okay yeah it's been about seven years seven years ago isn't that crazy that's crazy time flying dog trying to tell you I was a little Kentucky kid in the gym a little bit uh it was a bay club whatever they called it yeah now it's like eight years in wait that's so you started you started at Bay Club what is it called it used to be called Bay Club right yeah yeah they changed um Don McLean that's throwback you was at Bay Club that's that's what I'm saying so I was over there and I really was that then I saw him pulling up in the Ferrari you know what I'm trying to say yeah I knew I knew what I was doing though I knew I knew the young fellas could handle it they they could see the motivation and they can run with it so that's all I was doing you know what I mean you know damn [Laughter] I used to ask all the teammates for rides I said [ __ ] is spending the money for that did you have any uh cause you you [ __ ] in a cold ass City too yeah and coming from it's still snowing there knowing like you know because the in Dominican y'all y'all got that good weather and [ __ ] yeah yeah yeah yeah did you have any moments like when you got to Minnesota where like driving and [ __ ] like when I was in Indy my first time driving bro I had a I had uh I had bought an Escalade right I was good in the Escalade okay but then the new Challengers and [ __ ] came out so I caught the Challenger and where my apartment was it was like a six-way and I live right downtown um like literally five minutes from uh the arena yeah but uh so I'm driving a shoot around early this morning look thank God I was the only person on the road slip sliding everywhere so it's a remember it's a six way yeah so I'm driving and I gotta make like a little like a it's it's not a straight but it's like a little left like a little turn to go left as soon as I hit I I'm at the light I'm going through soon as I punch on the gas a little bit that [ __ ] going my [ __ ] spins out right yeah so I'm like this like trying to gain control like I'm sliding middle of the intersection like yeah um and again no cars is there at this time like that's the only lucky [ __ ] about it yeah so I'm just sliding bro I'm stepping on the brakes my brakes is just sliding too like I'm like [ __ ] like how am I gonna get through this luckily I it was like a movie literally got to the curb and my [ __ ] just stopped yeah yeah that's always and bro I was just like in a car like what the hell just happened nobody is gonna believe this [ __ ] what I just went through bro I get to the I pull up as a practice bro I'm sweating oh man I know if everybody saw me they was like bro look how you seen a ghost right now bro but you did you you ain't have no like you ever have yeah no moments like that for sure the first moment being I'm Different I didn't want to spend the money on winter tires so I said [ __ ] it we're going oh my gosh don't let people fool you don't mean I'm spending that thing I got a story though about how we knowing each other how y'all man everything I got a story about when I when I actually I say I met Carl yeah and thanks to Pete okay you know so I probably met you a couple more times but really thanks to people when we went to P's wedding in Italy is when our first great drunk festivities Carl really where I really got the bun with him yeah I say this is a cool dude and I see why you mess with him yeah I see why because he's like a big kid big kid fun all day he he he he he literally just has a ball he can drink yeah I'll do yeah but it was it was something you know I'm Dominican like you said Dominican starting pitcher we're getting to it but I've seen something interesting in it when we was out there in Italy out of all the things even though he was drunk he was taking pictures yeah and he was taking some nice pictures I want to know is you still taking the pictures oh yeah I just wanting to have those moments you know for myself one two so I could always look back and be like man my bro really did die something special and we all could remember that but two is like I took some photos just for him like I know he you know he got all the money he got all these photographers and stuff but there's something special when you have Polaroids that's something cool I took pictures of the kids I took pictures of him yeah no he did family everything it was just little things you know it's like it's like a cool little party thing you know set the vibe yeah like setting The Vibes you know what I'm trying to say like man it's cool I definitely appreciate you that uh for that because like all my family was like that the same they left away with that same takeaway like damn car was fun as hell he was cool as [ __ ] and I was there for you yeah yeah it was awesome it was awesome that like literally like I kid you not every family member was like man Carl was like so personable he had fun he was taking pictures with us like he's taking pictures for us your auntie came up she was like Hey can you can you get a Polaroid of me right here show thing mama don't worry about it I got you it's cool he was literally cool with ever yeah free body no Italy was blind I'm about my people for sure I saw your ass off I remember we was in the town and I had took like a little early walk and we was in Italy and I'm walking to town I see this big [ __ ] ordering ice cream yeah gelato gelato expert bro me and wifey just taking a stroll like out of nowhere you just see Carl big ass like random as hell ice cream and [ __ ] bro let me tell you Sorrento I could tell you everywhere to go for ice cream now boy best ice cream and pasta it was multiple times I mean we before we got on the boat this [ __ ] window I remember coming back from the Welcome dinner and I was like and everyone we just all drunk as hell yeah it was drunk as [ __ ] and we like they're like Carl where you going I said [ __ ] that I gotta go get some ice cream it's two in the morning I'm like [ __ ] that we gonna go get some everyone's there they're like is that like you could tell my girl was like they all know it's you and I'm like [ __ ] that I'm getting all this little whiz that's trying to tell you whatever the hell they call it I'm getting whatever ice cream they got Franz like espresso or whatever the ice cream yeah all that ice cream bro well there's no secret so cats like Dairy if you can remember all the ice cream if you can remember all the ice cream and all that right yeah tell me that when the first time y'all ever played against each other tell me about that ice cream first time ice cream about that ice I'll remember that one they got they got 29 flavors hello the first time I really remember playing him in a shooting game I busted his ass too but I remember it was me him I don't know it was me you and Martin level looks like when you're at the top like this is what he's Mark was still in high school at the time right he was going to do he wasn't I don't think he was at Duke yeah he was going to do I thought he was getting into the drive no there's no way no he was he was he was he was in high school he was in high school yeah yeah he was boy that boy could jump yeah hell oh my God he was like we're gonna stick to the shooting games over here all right it's not I definitely remember our first time y'all came y'all came to Indy I remember the first game tell us more came to Indy it was a long time ago I actually had like flavors was it 29 flavors different flavors did you have 29 Points some of them were two some were threes some free throws and one couple and ones if you had a good game then shout out to you yeah I just I just care about did we win or lose that's all I care y'all lost got lost or we lost y'all lost that was my rookie year right yeah that was with me first time we played I don't know I didn't know if we were actually did you play that year like against us I played y'all team y'all had y'all wig Zack kg y'all had it shout out recipes Adrian Andre Miller Andre Miller taishan Prince tayshawn was on that team yeah Kevin Martin Kevin Martin was on that team y'all had a squad we got it going at the end too that's when we beat the Warriors when we had to get um we were blown we were actually blowing y'all out that game and then four no late it happens nah we were we were up by like 20 something for real later this game now we were up like 20 something late in the third so when I go to your house just because I have no idea I remember it we went on a drought and we had a tough time scoring and y'all brought it all the way back y'all were down by one point like last minute or so y'all were down like one point and Monte put the game away for us he got he I think he got like a layup you did have Montez yeah we got like a layup and then he got a block on Andre what the Mississippi bullet huh I have the best record my first couple years speaking of all that man look y'all ever talked about playing together [Laughter] yeah [Laughter] and the world wanted that to happen hey anything can happen but right now he's a Clipper I'm a wolf boy so you guys have had a couple of the same teammates and I got two of your teammates that I'd like to talk about the first one is Pat Bev talk a little bit about that Pat Bev effect and what it's like playing with them we've heard it from p uh and just from your experience with him how how have you enjoyed patbeb as a teammate man he's special he's special as a player as a person you know just he's a winner and um he breathes winning you know and it's great that his competitive juices fly that much because in practice and stuff it pushes you to another level um I I like I he's one of those guys of course I've always seen him from afar like you hate to play against him but then you would love if he was your teammate and I I couldn't have been more right you know love playing with him you hate seeing him on the court against you because you know he's just a pest and he's annoying as hell but but he's just he's one of those dudes that like whatever you say he lacks in size or he he lacks in skill whatever he makes it up totally judges by being himself yeah and being like that kind of that energy you need as leader to yeah that that is Pat all the way and that that is very because Pat is a he's a winner like he's a winner that [ __ ] wants to win he's about to write [ __ ] at all times I've seen this man play video games that he has no idea what the controls are talking about I'm gonna beat the [ __ ] out of you yeah bro don't worry about it gotta [ __ ] press the controller right now I figured this [ __ ] don't wear a gang I'll figure this [ __ ] out he put money on it too he'd be like yeah I'll whip your ass in this 100 that man picking up the controller what the [ __ ] is this and [ __ ] no Pat is ultra competitive I remember uh we were playing Dallas and this [ __ ] had his own like uh basically like game plan or scouting report so on Dallas and he sent it to me like he sent me like uh Tim Hardaway Junior like look look gang this is uh he don't like doing this he don't like doing that like just just crowded that [ __ ] with us too that's how locked in Pat B like Pat's really beats that is one person I say like I heard him say it he probably like in a one percentile two percentile cast that's locked in no he's locked in for sure I mean Pat is well we spent all this time we made this game plan we're gonna follow this and if you know things change in the game where that's not right coach but you the coach so I hey get mad you know he's you know he got his brain his dreads be all good you just walk away who else funny ass mom I think it was we was playing Phoenix and we talking matchups and they go book I got that [ __ ] out of nowhere he'd be that tight yeah yeah like I got that [ __ ] and he just had the whole game plan like yeah forced that [ __ ] right he don't like to go left two dribble pull-ups he gonna pump fake try to step through I'm gonna stay down I'm gonna stay down gang cause I ain't trying to get like he just went through a whole checklist before we even played this [ __ ] up how he's gonna play I want to go back to when y'all was talking about gaming because you know we all Gamers show up here for sure but I want to know because y'all talk a lot of smack cause y'all like brothers and all this type of stuff I won't I want the same question for both of y'all what game would you what pee ass in no matter what the same for you people gang with you whip Carl add something no matter what hands down I can't hear this wait he wouldn't be me in any uh that is a big cow cat no maybe 2K oh that's I don't play a lot I don't play that much I play it here and there against friends and stuff but then I'm not like dedicated to playing it like every moment of my day I don't think he could [ __ ] with me in Call of Duty I don't think I'm I'm in Madden cat we played together you know we played we might have who's Mike wasn't working the whole time that don't have nothing to do you mind you're not even working that has nothing to do with you first of all first of all do not talk about that when we got YT in the [ __ ] room not talk about that white cheater I would say I would say 2K he got me I think he'll have me in 2K 2K 2K Call of Duty baseball hey you Dominican so you might have a uh translate to the last time you played mad [Laughter] we got a lot of guys like I don't want to name any names but I think they're just in the league for fellowship and so we're trying to elevate just the overall it started right okay we we want to talk about young cat I know when like for me that Tipping Point for me when I knew I had a chance to make it to the league yeah I just knew I was different like I was tall but I had like guard skills I was able to dribble the ball you got taller and then and then I started to stretch out but but I knew I was different from I didn't say nothing bro that was him what what you mean you was the only one boy hahaha I was I got I got I got it I got no trust me it gets really bad in here I felt the presence but no for me I knew I was like different amongst all the other kids because of my my height yeah my skill set it was very different and so I would from there it was just like all right I just need to run with this like that was like my opening yeah just to run with this like what was that what was that moment for you where you where you realize NBA might be a it might be a chance for me I think for me it was when I was um a freshman in high school and I was playing against the Dream Team V2 with Kobe and all of them and I played them in Vegas actually and when I played that game you know you're a young kid you're playing against literally the best players in the world and you know everyone's in their Prime Bronze in his prime Kobe's still in his like Prime Deron Williams is on the team who you know was regarded as the number one point guard in the NBA and Kevin Love was on the Minnesota Timberwolves in his prime Tyson Chandler just won a championship with Dallas like you know we could keep going Squad you know Anthony Davis just got drafted number one so like I remember that moment I had a whole summer of playing against like you know this is people we back in the day we talk about Grievous Vasquez and yeah um all the uh Andre karilinko Timothy mozgov and all these players and I was on the bench the whole most of the summer but just watching these guys play and stuff I was like man I I could bust that ass I ain't gonna lie to you I I could do that if they give me a chance to go on the court I could do something and I remember when I played that game against um in Vegas and it was not like I went out there and had like 20 points 10 rebounds like I had like five points I think I had like five points and like two assists three six I only played the fourth quarter but like the fact that I was when I got on the court how comfortable I felt making behind the back passes against the best players in the world shooting threes you know feeling confident in my skills out there and stuff and and producing some sort of stats and feeling like I I looked apart like I looked like I was supposed to feel like you belong yeah so I was like when I had that I was like nah when I get to the NBA I'm gonna be a problem it wasn't even about making it anymore it was about when I get there you know I was a freshman so like what I had sophomore I skipped my junior year I reclassified to be a senior so I had three years where I was like bro I got three to four years of more like seasoning before I get to the NBA like that's some great experience right there that's what I'm saying I was like when I got to the NBA I was the already my freshman year I was like they can't [ __ ] with me when I get there yeah I already knew when I got you go back to school though like damn that's right that's Swag like I'll go back to school like yeah yeah I just had a little open run with you know but you know people it's so funny yeah play a little balls yeah y'all [ __ ] here I'm playing a little Bobby from a little Easter I'm thinking little Bobby five eight and [ __ ] I was always very confident myself I never felt like yeah I just boosted my confidence I knew I had like my mindset went from like making the college anymore and now my whole mindset was like this is the this is the training camp I have till I'm in the NBA so I got three to four years I gotta be sold locked then because when my time comes I want to make the most of it and I thought about that for three to four years about how when it's my moment I'm gonna be ready you know and I yeah I did what I was I did what I needed to do that's awesome you that's awesome you said that like because if you can see it happening yeah and then when you're prepared and ready for that moment like because I went through the same thing not in high school playing against you know great and [ __ ] like that but the point of me my early years in the league like after you know going through my my you know preseason there you go great job you're back going through preseason going through preseason what the [ __ ] is that drawing blanks going through preseason that's when I came up with like damn I could be a [ __ ] All-Star give me like two years I've been All-Star in this league like that's the way I felt just because it felt so natural out there I felt like I was myself I still had a ton of room to improve but I look I loved where I was at already so I remember telling the team and I told you all this I think like two three years in I was like yeah I'm gonna be an All-Star in the league whole Locker Room bust out laughing and [ __ ] at me all right watch they did whole locker room bro like for real like tears bro Tears like on the ground stomach holding knee slapping like nah not the knee slap me slapping like they slapping me slapping they took it back to the days bro bro back of the head grabbing bro they was dying in there stupid deal if anyone started coughing laughing so much then we got a problem it probably was but yeah no that's that's awesome to hear that's awesome here damn 15. so when you came to Minnesota did you feel any pressure um and kind of almost following Kevin Garnett's Legacy and how much did uh kg kind of speak to you I assume he did when you came over there talk about that experience yeah I mean obviously there's pressure you're the first number one pick ever in the organization's history so you know like they really said you're supposed to be the guy for us you know and like I said I had I'm so confident myself and I knew before I I knew I was gonna exceed expectations so I wasn't really worried about that but then when you have kg there you know it's like you said I'm following kg said but kg's there so I get to really like work with him every day and like know where he may have made a mistake and where I could not make the same mistake and what maybe he wish he knew when he was coming into the league and stuff like that so I felt very prepared I felt ready for the moment um I felt like I said I took three years just uh such a a single Focus that when I get to this moment which I knew was coming I'm gonna be ready for this moment I'm gonna seize the moment and I think my rookie year I did I definitely did that yeah no you definitely Rose to the occasion I felt like I did what I was supposed to do I think PG saw it too like the look in my eyes for every workout was like pure like it was this is the this is the this is the workout of my life this is the workout for my resume that will change the game did you have like a moment where like he was like God damn I'm being like mentored by kg for sure I for sure I really wanted to bust his ass every day in basketball so I was really excited that you know a guy who's known as the greatest power forward of our time I get to go out there and and show how uh yeah yeah the new generations here yeah yeah so I thought that was cool but like one thing that uh I know one thing that that I took away from being around kg he was with y'all for a little bit too with the Clippers he was working around like the facility and stuff like that this was like all me being teammates with an All-Star uh weekend but one thing I took away from him and I always from this point on like I'm strong on this [ __ ] I remember all-star weekend you know they set up food for us and [ __ ] after and the media ship was in the coaches and everybody started digging in the food players first bro he went crazy at All-Star he was calling no no Y'all [ __ ] y'all [ __ ] y'all better put that [ __ ] food that [ __ ] goes to us first that [ __ ] hey Lord hey Lord Lord who the [ __ ] are you before Lord bro he went crazy like he's tripping like that no [ __ ] kg went off he tripping bro everybody dropped they plates they dropped the food bro like everybody ran out of there it's like yeah [ __ ] don't deserve to eat before us we put our goddamn bodies on the line they ain't eating about that [ __ ] no he was serious about very serious about that and to this day bro like that I carry that [ __ ] with me like nah like he damn right we put our body like we playing hard for the show for sure because we would like get to the food and it's gone bro we be hungry like food gone like everybody but us people in that every little I know I don't go there well thank god YT wasn't there because that would have been damn why you didn't get to a therapist bro so we talked about it a couple episodes ago ago about just like trash Talkers in the NBA and so do you have any you know we hear some of the stories that have been out about kg and being a trash talk or do you have any good stories you remember as a rookie you're playing with them a little bit of him just going off on somebody and could you share that with us like what's the most disrespectful I've seen you've seen it it's a viral video he's like trash I heard him say it clear as hell video I'll tell you that it was better in person I mean there's a lot of good ones I mean but that one I think that one's that one's a good one that was a funny one that was funny I think he's talking to EG I think he was yeah he was in Minnesota he was talking yeah he was in a goddamn sport coat talking [ __ ] like boiling somebody that's okay I wish I could be a fly on the wall like when they played in the 90s because social media now we can catch all that [ __ ] I know they were saying some crazy I'm gonna tell you the funniest thing playing video games with kg and in a Call of Duty Lobby that is the best thing I got a story about that oh that [ __ ] is the funniest thing I've ever seen the funniest part about kg is wait he talked to me he'd be like Lord you know he always say look Lord let me tell you something I always got some ginger ale next to me because [ __ ] be moving too [ __ ] fast he told me that [ __ ] at practice one day at the practice silly I started busting out laughing I said no this man he got ginger ale because the game moved too fast [Laughter] so me and him had to do a 2K uh we had to do a 2K My Player little promo [ __ ] with Ronnie right so me him teammates and I think Ronnie was our third oh my God not Ronnie first of all it took us like 30 minutes just to start playing because kg didn't know how the hell to work this [ __ ] he know how to log in like how to get on the game 2K do make EVS every technical difficulty he went through right so y'all was online playing each other yeah we was on the part oh yeah I was on a park with kg no they should have had a representative there and it took like no lie 30 minutes for him to like actually get set up so we waiting on him the whole time we're like yo can you hear me can y'all hear me so we finally started playing now we're in the game and he he still don't know like he don't know what to do now yg yg he calls me yg yg yo YG because I'll call him OG so he's like yo YG I don't know I don't know how I don't know what I'm doing [Laughter] I'm mixing though I'm getting my bag oh it was just funny because he didn't know like he didn't know what the hell to do but you had that experience imagine being in a Call of Duty Lobby and no one knows it's him yeah I want all y'all podcast camera look think about this Kevin Garnett one of the greatest trash talkers of all time is in a Call of Duty Lobby arguing with a nine-year-old the greatest [ __ ] thing you've ever seen I wish I had content to show y'all they ain't nothing [ __ ] better bro and he in game chat back him up [ __ ] too I'm like little little Tommy out here gonna cry to his parents man kg over here going nuts cussing his ass off oh my God I want to play with uh we gotta get him in the league I told the guys my my welcome to the NBA moment right we was playing Celtics and they had the monster lineup oh they had everybody everybody yeah the [ __ ] Shaq kg Paul Pierce Ray Allen uh Nate Robinson Rondo and like they had the monster lineup the shortest guy on that team he said the little point guard what was what was your like welcome to the NBA moment personally for me it was when I walked in the locker room I was like halfway during my rookie year and I looked at my jersey and we were playing the Memphis Grizzlies and I was like wow like I don't know why it hit me then but it was like wow like my name's on the back of an NBA jersey yeah and like you get so I don't know if I was just so caught up in it being my rookie year and I was like I got to keep my head down just keep working and I finally I think for that moment Rose my head up and was like wow like look look where I'm at like you know what I'm trying to say like yeah so I think it was like that I think in the in the basketball game I don't know it was it was one of those moments where it was like I'm playing Marc Gasol Zach Randolph Tony like it was like something special but I don't know I just think that I for the first time I Rose my head up and I was in a great mental space and I was bawling and I was on a good run and I feel like I just Rose my head up for the first time yeah and was like wow like I'm really here kg walks in what's up Lloyd like gives me a high five and like a handshake whatever adapt and everything and I'm like I'm really getting like adapt from kg who's my locker locker neighbor and my name is on the back of the NBA jersey on the Wolves Jersey yeah so I was kind of like I don't know I think I always remember that moment because I just stood there for a little bit I was like wow like I really did this like I really manifested this I said I was gonna do it and I did it and now we get to go out here and play against at the time was one of the best teams in the west yeah and it's Marc Gasol who was known as the defensive player of the year one of the best centers in NBA and I can do out there and compete against him and then you know when I'm not against him I'm against Zach Randolph who I grew up and who's been a monster so I was just like I don't know I just felt like I was like man this is crazy like that this is my life I I don't think it was like a moment in the game where I was like wow like that I just too confident too much in the game blocked in but I never really like took a time to take a step back and be like wow I'm in the NBA even when like you know you get drafted number one you have that moment it's great you're on TV but it feels like a whirlwind because like you you go that finisher or after draft party and then next you know I'm on a PJ going to Minnesota to do the press conference and then everything just moves full circle you do finish press conference then you're going right to working out to go to summer league you know so right I never really I don't think I really ever like got a chance to soak that [ __ ] yeah like soak it in so it's like what 20 something games in you're finally like you're in the midst of it now you know there's no more like the start of the season's over you know so you don't all the attention's on you and stuff now it's like you know 25 games 30 games in where it's like the media attention is not as hot you know I'm trying to say everyone knows you're the number one pick everyone knows all right I've already shown I've already had these amazing games where people was like all right he's already solidified so now it's like you're just going through the the moment you know the movements and I think at that moment when I got in the comfortable Rhythm I was like yeah damn like this [ __ ] I like that response because I think just from a friend's perspective seeing just the schedules and how busy like I can't imagine being in the NBA and all the emotions that just come with that like your dream to get there but then then when you get there it's not just basketball anymore yeah that's what makes it it's like a job you finally got a job and like start working right away people always like oh it must be nice making and I'm like bro you don't realize like they have to do a lot time management and stuff on their bodies what you also understand too like I don't think fans understand like they look at it from a Google aspect but they're not looking at like a logistical aspect of like this right so um you play an NBA yes we've earned the checks we get because of our talent and because we're one of a kind and their main it will probably never be another PG it'll never be another me so we get these super max is a Maxis because we're something that you can never duplicate you can never get us you can't make it up even with two people three people's reduction you know three people maybe you could do a week ago as one person so you know what I'm trying to say yes no I get it that's being real and then on the flip side too it's like let's look at the more Logistics like you know NBA player we we play an NBA you know we we put our bodies on the line every day so when we have kids and stuff we sometimes just can't even fathom hanging out with the kids because we're so beat up banged up or even mentally we're just exhausted like we can't I can't even you can't even think for yourself you know so it's like on that spot you know you give up a lot of your legs you know so we know after this basketball shit's over it's like a lot of us gonna have trouble walking around and doing stuff to live a normal day life so in a way it's like what a settlement in a way yeah like we all get enlarged Hearts so the what's the first thing they all tell us say oh you know most likely you'll die from heart disease or something that's the first thing they tell you so it's like all right well at least yeah I got this money right now I guess you know I'm trying to say [ __ ] and like there's so many things you give up you know you give up you know I think both of us know like family time like you're really like a 24 7 worker for the NBA like you give up your life to protect that logo and brand and build that brand logo so I mean I mean are we really getting paid enough it's one of those things like like I said the money is amazing I don't want to ever get that misconstrued I don't want everything that changes generational you know generations of families but you know really it takes one of us to go out there and really one you got to put the work in so when you're not seeing us on the court the the mental grind and the work needed just to play well at seven o'clock you know it's a lot and I think that's what people don't understand like for any other job uh you can kind of like what you do like yeah you have to literally love to hoop every single day you gotta love it going to a game like I just don't feel like it today oh your job's on the line your job's on the line like you're you're there to produce and perform we love the who yeah so we always are trying to play like you know there's days where you just we physically can't like they're like why is PG not playing PG got we got maybe a bone spur a torn tender they don't know about what they're not talking about it you know we just don't talk about it so you don't hear it on the ticker you may be like PG moving a little step slower yeah because PG was not even supposed to play today right PG really wanted the hoop for the little kid that was coming in spending the 20 or having that gift of a ticket that right he may never come to another game and I feel the same way like I'm gonna try to play like I always said I wouldn't play if I couldn't walk that's the only way I could not I would not play is if I couldn't walk I tore my cat I couldn't yeah but just from like a mental space like because every like literally every day is basketball you're playing basketball every day every day practice games off days like you're doing you're going in for treatment you're like you're doing something involved around basketball like just talked about this on episode nine I'm lost I'm lost right now but just but just from the from the mental the mental capacity that it takes just athletes in general like again you have to literally think about you like if you act every day it'd be days where you just be like damn like who am I like exactly I'm a whole nother person right now you know I mean you just get drained from doing that like in with sports you have to love you have to love that [ __ ] every single day get lost in the job it's my fourth day of not working and I feel lost yeah I feel like what a rocket like I'm feeling like I got to play basketball there's a game coming you know we in LA right now and like I'm feeling like oh well you know I gotta probably play the Lakers or the Clippers tomorrow like for real talk like but then you realize when you wake up in the morning like there's no seven in the morning wake up six in the morning wait for me I would do a six or seven in the morning wake up lift workout shoot around shoot around back to the crib tape tape back to going back to the gym to go get ready for the game so it's like I woke up this morning and I was like man and you know uh I think I got a game later today it's off season and then I want to work out the first thing all the people say is like you know hey you got to relax you got to give your body injuries from the playoffs that I gotta let heal up and stuff and then like you got to relax you can't go out there just start running everywhere and doing stuff because you know it's not going to give a chance for it to heal so it's like you really lose yourself in this job you feel lost without it I was explaining to someone I said this is the best way to explain like me and PG's job it's like imagine you worked your whole life for this dream job you finally get your dream job and not only do you get the dream job but you're one of the best at it you're really good at it like not okay not well I just got the job I'm talking about you're great you're like you're the best and you do it for six months and it feels like a whirlwind of six months of just doing what you love and then at the six month mark it was six seven eight whatever it is they go well you gotta retire no questions you got to retire and you're like retire this is what I do and then they're like nope you gotta go you're retired and then they come back to you whatever is six five four months later another job for you yeah and they're like do you wanna do you do you wanna take your position from before again like do you want to do that and then you really make a choice of like do I want to do this anymore do I want to be putting my body of mine through all this like you know and that's when people make that retirement judgment like do you really want to do it like so imagine like I know people don't understand like what we go through they think it's just like sports fans they think it's just like sports or nothing but like you know you really lose part of yourself because you're forced to retire you're forced not to do what you do every day and find something else to do you know how people how many people you all know that retire and then they take like five four years to figure out who they are yeah before they actually live out their retirement yeah I mean I can't imagine I think Drew just came out and said um he plans on like it could possibly like he might not resign after this next two years of his contractor up and I've talked to him about it a little bit just you know he's thinking of retire yeah yeah yeah and so I just can't imagine with the schedule that you guys have going from that then just flipping a switch and you know you it can be a little scary losing yourself and I know Paul talks a lot about the mental health stuff uh during the bubble and whatnot and I think that's an important that's crazy I couldn't imagine that the bubble was I couldn't imagine now that's a whole nother topic that's like discussion right there the bubble was the prison the bubble was prison that was prison but everyone but everyone was cool with each other the no yeah facts that was that was the issue no Shanks no gangs that was the issue they sold us all this [ __ ] before we got to the bubble we're gonna have you know the park amenities Disneyland's gonna be available the golf courses the the [ __ ] uh fishing the like ponds the law you needed when I heard fishing I said PG set he's good but that was like All Phases like we had to like damn near wait time and time for them to like slowly start to open [ __ ] up for us I ain't gonna lie to you Disneyland would because it doesn't it's world world it's Florida's Disney World Disney World right yeah so Disney World I'm there for like six hours I'm done yeah I'm not gonna imagine being there two months every day two months did they let you do the roller coasters and all that stuff right now oh none no so what the hell was you doing just walking taking a stroll basically uh we were just living like in jail bro we were just in jail we're watching we'll watch mother I I open my window bro I used to just watch like cars drive cause it's like a highway and [ __ ] on a it's like a highway next to the the hotel and [ __ ] price is just watching Cars Go by like this free me bro I used to just watch Cars Go by bro like real talk and you would just watch like people run around the Border because you couldn't cross outside that border or you would get flagged like you had to go in uh isolation and isolation him don't worry about it man came down full speed I said let me take this charge real quick that was probably the worst thing I ever could have done that man fell right over in school you know you ever seen that just like a train I was like oh my God I was like why did I do that my dumb ass over here trying to take a charge of Demarcus stop shout out to Marcus man he's hell yeah I don't think he is but he's I'll tell you one thing for a lot of the [ __ ] he gets as a as a player he's a hell of a person man hell of a person he was a great great player great team he was with us right the reaction videos on YouTube and he has developed some relationships uh with some YouTubers so there's this guy that calls himself DeMarcus Cousins the third he was a dude remember he uh you saw someone getting a haircut Courtside uh what's his name shout out did you know that he was going to do that that's what I wanted to know did he tell you that he was going to get a haircut oh I know it happened yeah yeah yeah okay okay all right he's hella talented at that content creation is a thing I talk to him a lot um we're good we're really good friends and he was just and he tells me like he really wakes up and is super excited to shoot like the content his fancy and like yeah he calls me he's like bro like I'm gonna do this I'm gonna do that like I'm super excited like is there any suggestions maybe I do something else I think and I was like you know now maybe you do do this maybe I think you're perfectly fine the way you're doing it maybe I would be like sometimes I just calm them down grown women or some [ __ ] like that he said some wild [ __ ] so funny as hell so I want to revisit uh and talk a little bit about Jimmy Butler he's carrying the Miami Heat right now playing fantastic really knocked out talking trash to Drew but there's a Infamous story is that the right word and famous Infamous and famous and famous the iPhone ain't correct in yours but there's a there's a great okay there's a great story that is circulated it around the league about Jimmy Butler yeah kind of going off uh during that practice when you guys were both in Minnesota like going off on like I just know that he was coming on on the coaches and stuff I I don't really know the whole you gotta walk us through it we were upset that scene for us because outside looking in like we was like damn it's total chaos right now for sure it was like Jimmy verse Minnesota like that's what that's what like I took away from it like I mean much respect to Jimmy let me tell you that before I start anything like I needed the help to get to the first playoffs it's a team game and you know I we both did a lot of work to get us there so you know shout out to him I don't ever want to disrespect no I'm not a man I don't know what the world is right now but I wasn't raised to disrespect nobody I'm not a disrespectful kind of man so I that anyone I disrespect I obviously let them anger me who he who angers owns them so I'm not owned by anybody right so um I give him the flowers I'm a person I give them flowers so I give them his flowers for sure you know we did something special to get them back to the playoffs that that year but right that practice but I remember I mean everyone got so many everyone saw what Derrick Rose said he wrote a whole book about it you know he wrote a book with a big part of it in it I guess Jeff Teague just talked about it someone told me yeah it got brought up I just kind of just and downloaded social media and if you guys didn't tell me I would have not known so no yeah do you need some some some no it was the story of what Jeff said I re I mean I'm gonna keep it simple I'm not I'm here to really talk about that story all the time but like I do remember this we we had practice we had that game it was the four starters and uh another player I don't I don't remember sorry if I don't remember and it was Jimmy his boy from Marquette Odom and three other guys who ended up I think one of them actually ended up being a starter for us so they we played and uh I was balling he was passing a lot he got one free throw and then um I know we had a moment where we was what we was arguing with each other he said some [ __ ] I said some [ __ ] back I wasn't going for that and then tips you know tips like boy so I remember we was arguing I know Taj was like Taj Gibson was was at the free throw line that's when we started arguing back and forth with each other because we right next to each other so it wasn't like either of us was like opposite sides we were just right next to each other arguing and um I remember he I I remember who he was talking about too he was talking about like a preseason game right before we played the Bucks and he was talking about that to me and I was like I said what I said yeah I love what I said too and um and then um they ended up winning the game I think they got a a last second shot to go in I think they made a I think what it was it was I think it was a free throw they made a free throw late and it's like running time five minutes so it was like a quick like little scrimmage whatever and then I remember the whole thing happened when he's screaming at the people and everything I need me walks off games I guess practice is over and we're in the preseason so we needed the practice so whatever happens happens I know that next day we had a meeting team meeting and I remember the day after that we had practice we had practice again now and then I remember it was all five of us it was the starters all the starters you saw me Taj wig Jeff and Jimmy verse second unit this I think it was the third unit third unit the third unit I believe and we lost by like ten third unit beat yo yeah with Jimmy yeah yeah yeah so that so that so that practice meant nothing in basically I'm I'm guessing not your third string is really good we need to play them [ __ ] God damn right [ __ ] with Jimmy without Jimmy that third string was just what it was you know it's preseason you've been in preseason I've seen a lot you always try to win but everyone's trying to really like work on that team that's that's like they got something to prove yeah I mean whatever I I it's whatever I just know that I've been around long enough maybe for us it's just like I've seen a lot of teams where you play in the preseason and you're doing training camp whatever and it's like you ain't winning every game you know you're all working on something you're trying to figure out plays there's maybe a miscommunication that's the time to have it because it's the preseason training camp but I do remember that fact I remember that that whole practice happened the way it happened we had the team meeting the next day I had I pulled Jimmy this side we talked um told him what I'm about I'm about winning and I'm not here for all that so if we about winning then I don't really care about anything else that happened the day before I'll let all that [ __ ] slide all the rumors and [ __ ] in the summer I don't really care as long as I could come to work and we could win games that's all I care about and then the next day we did our starters versus them and we lost boy 10 or 8 or something like that so that's what I remember from that day so I mean there's I feel like everyone's giving an account I don't want to give an account but yeah there's there's that so we want it from the source so that I mean Jimmy that [ __ ] and just for like and just for the public the fans to know that [ __ ] happens like yeah it did just because of the situation it got broadcasting and it got publicized and blown out of proportion that [ __ ] happens like teammates get into it that is I've been in locker rooms I've been in practices where guys literally was grabbing each other by the neck no for sure no [ __ ] I've seen people punching each other and stuff but like like I said like we had an argument we had an argue yeah right [Laughter] things happen the way they happen it is what it is um could I have said more when I was younger at that point I could but I really cared about the organization I cared about that Shield that logo we all wear in the NBA put them in the NBA logo and I just was only about being a professional you know so I could I probably have said something could I had said my truth and probably saved me a lot of stigmas and narratives and stuff people paint on me for sure I took the but I took the approach the wise man you know wise man says nothing at all right at the high road and just worried about playing basketball and stuff um obviously social media took it a whole another way but I could say from then on we you know we had our difference we had our differences but we've seen each other All-Stars and you know we've talked and I've asked how his family was and that's how my family was and um I think we got a cool spot yeah so I I that's what you get that's what you get and I think that's healthy when you get two guys you can't I can't hold grudges I ain't got no time for that [ __ ] yeah but that's it's at the end of the day it's also healthy like that [ __ ] you got two guys that want to get to the same place but each guy is getting there differently you know what I mean and so that's just being expressed on how do we get there together you know what I mean yeah I mean like I said I'm not here to disrespect I don't disrespect nobody that's not who I am I'm not I'm not here on some disrespectful [ __ ] yeah that's not like how I was raised I wasn't raised the season myself because of the injury not being able to finish the Finish Line with my guys being nasty it was tough it was nasty I remember calling you insane so I guess we're playing a lot of Call of Duty yeah yeah [Laughter] first thing I called him I said I said wow that didn't look good guess what's like a lot of Call of Duty from now on huh oh man I think wifey heard it too she was like oh boy the funny part was I wasn't even like I wasn't even trying to get like info or anything I was just actually calling some brother [ __ ] but I was like I can't be real like I don't want people to think I'm over here bullying PG and [ __ ] I low-key am but I'm not I just be on some like I just talked to him like a little bro like just on some funny [ __ ] yeah I just can't believe like I saw that I remember I got a call from it my girl hit me up she was like yo PG got hurt I said what the [ __ ] you do she was like oh he got hurt in the game he hurt his leg I said his leg which leg I said Okay okay so I looked at it I was like damn yeah you know you've seen the song you've seen uh The Boondocks damn guys [ __ ] God damn yeah no that's that's just that's just that's how he'll beat my want to I want to hear your take though on on our season your season your highs wow where do I start let's give it give us the highs what was the positives positives was we made the playoffs won't fought through a lot of adversity had a lot of injuries including myself and we still found a way to get it done um give ourselves a chance um I'm really proud of our guys you know we had a lot of guys because of the injuries I got to step up show their game and I think they're going to get paid this summer for it so it's a blessing it was a blessing for some families who that's all you could ask for right yeah what's the lows injuries again um we didn't meet the expectations that was set for us um it took us a lot longer to gel because of pre-season Rudy was hurt from the France team and then I got sick and then he then we finally got in the season and we started you know finally figuring things out then I got hurt so now it's a whole nother thing now we had to change and then when I finally come back it's like seven six games left in the season and it was a lot of um there was never like an actual flow you know I feel like for yeah yeah like was trying to figure it out but y'all had an actual flow like things was working out so like we never had a chance to really get a flow it was like kind of just every day we stepped out there with the talent we had and tried to make the most of it you know but I think that for me the low will be like not making the second or third round at least you know because I thought that we had that kind of talent we had that kind of team we had that kind of character absolutely I think like making the first round and not making it out was disappointing to say yes have you heard giannis's failure comment yes I have so and I'm not I'm not saying I didn't see it social media but my girl showed this man I think it's the right one I'm talking about the one where he got mad at the reporter correct yeah okay but so I viewed our season as a failure just because of you know the roster we had and this is going on our fourth year like we've had all and everything that we needed to to be one of the last team and and ultimately the only team standing injuries obviously played a part in that so yeah for you you guys have the roster yes but everything is fresh for y'all it was aggressive yeah [Laughter] you guys got the roster but getting tired I'm picking the energy let's let's you know be honest about it this is your first go-around yeah Mike being there yeah trading season something we'd even get to talk about right point guard and then you trade an All-Star for another All-Star now you got to figure out a whole another game a whole another game right so do you with all of that do you do you guys view or do you view this this season as a failure for you guys yes how how so break that down I only say it's a fail because we made these big trades and stuff to succeed in the playoffs and the fact that we didn't make it out the first round I feel like obviously it's a failure for us because we want to win a championship we want to have a chance you know I think that you know he's right and what he says that you know you never fail like you you know we the fact that we went out there and gave it all we had and things didn't work out doesn't mean you're a failure it just wasn't your year like there's always going to be 29 teams that's not their year right so right oh that's me personally I just had goals that were set like you know I I had set that I wanted us to at minimum that men a bare minimum make the second round go to six or seven games and just you know get beat by a team that was just better than us that route or that those night you know that night [Music] um not saying I would like it but I'm saying like that's a a goal that was something I wanted to get second round you know third round stuff like that um but we didn't make it so you know obviously it hurts and that's uh something I'll I'll live with but that's why I'm saying it's a failure I don't think it was a failure for us getting people paid and doing what I do as a leader making people better men and also getting their families taken care of I think I accomplished that goal but as a team I feel like you know I wanted us to do more do better got you so Kat you talked about you know adding Rudy over the summer and that was a big trade uh and there was a lot of talk about you know his position and now you guys were gonna have you know two big guys over in Minnesota so talk a little bit about just the adjustment uh that that took and kind of just the team Dynamic of adding another big man it was definitely something I wasn't ready for I remember being in London and getting that call so I didn't actually have no idea that that was happening uh just kind of I was I was told by social media like everybody else so that was something but um it was definitely an adjustment because you know um I I had played for my career uh with gorgi Zhang playing the five so I was kind of prepared for it in college when I was coming up I was actually the four Willie cauley-stein was the five so I had idea of what to do but you know someone someone like Rudy I didn't play with someone like that Tyler Rudy has so I was kind of thrown off because I was also the five so it made me of course I had to move instead of four so um it kind of changed how my off season was going to be approached because you know you when Rudy got traded it was like July yeah so so you know July I'm already started my my off season workouts as a five and preparing for the five watching film the beat of five and then all of a sudden halfway there in the off season it's like throw all that [ __ ] out the window now you're the four so I definitely was a it was a it was a change for me because I didn't ever know I was not gonna be the five again so it kind of was different but I made the most of it and I was ready for the challenge I love challenges I love competing at the highest level and that was something a challenge that I don't think a lot of us expected and need to succeed at so I love that uh there was a there is a that doubt that made it fun so uh until like I heard I felt I was playing really well I was playing some of the best basketball in my career and obviously got hurt came back I felt like I picked up where I left off and you know uh Seasons just didn't go the way we want it so you're talking about injuries and this guy's gone through a few crazy injuries but just talk about you know this year being injured and the rehab process the mental aspect of it too not being able to go out there and support your team talk about you know coming back from injury and how that season of Life worked out for you yeah first of all he's been through was I don't know how that because I did the rehab with the calf and I felt like what the hell is this no that [ __ ] that should I couldn't imagine I I got so much more respect for people like PG who went through like way worse injuries and like come back and play at that level again like because I did my Cav and I was I was stunned because I never first of all I never thought in my career I would have a calf injury I thought it would be something totally different than anything you know obviously so it was difficult because it's such a fragile thing like it you feel good you're feeling great and then when you're feeling good they try to push you a little more and then all of a sudden boom something happens now you have a step back so it was um it was one of those injuries you don't ever really you feel like I could just out I could do the Bo Jackson you know my hip [ __ ] up I fixed my hip and I could work really hard and I'm back in it like it wasn't one of those things it was actually like uh you really have a certain limit you should be doing every day and if you pass that threshold you really could re-injure yourself and start back at square one as what happened with me was I got out the boot finally feeling good yeah back in the boot all the fans like what the hell happened yeah because that's the toughest part about it is yours was a soft tissue injury yeah and what people don't realize that's like one of the toughest injuries is a soft tissue injury because of you know the time that it takes for that yeah they didn't know if I was going to come back this year so I was I was I was fighting to get back this season because I knew if I could get help us in the end you know maybe I could help us win some games that really were meaningful get us in the playoffs slippery slope for me it was it was frustrating because time of the year that I got injured I mean what were you gonna do like I don't even know what to tell you uh it was just like hope for the best and Just Praise did you honestly think you were gonna come back and be this good again after I broke it after I broke my leg I kind of I kind of had to like I kind of had to psych myself out to to that you would that I would be like the same like I had to be in that mindset I'm not gonna lie because in the summer when this past summer when I saw you do the 360 windmill I said you still could do that he was like yeah I could do that I was like I'm just asking [ __ ] what the [ __ ] don't be so hurt by that [ __ ] I thought it was the age I don't know it was just oh no no I was offended by the age you calling me oh yeah I mean we both are old we're there no I had my old I got kids you got like actual not kid kids kids plural yeah I mean [ __ ] oh well my the this past injury what was tough about it just because the one that you just had with your knee with my knee okay the time of it and like literally I'm working my ass off I'm just saying from a recovery and Rehab standpoint like I'm working my ass off the top back people don't realize how much like they think recovery like remember people when they think about our rehab they think it's they think it's their if they think it's their rehab they're doing yeah like fans think like where it's like 30 minutes right a little cold ice pack from Walgreens it's an all-day process eight in the morning to 11 right eat lunch then it's like this we have people coming in because we were shooting podcasts we had people continent commenting like oh why aren't you training right now why you should do podcasting right now before I came like am I supposed to am I supposed to be rehabbing 10 hours straight like no 24 hours sorry 24 hours that's what they expect they want you to be doing 24 do they count sleep as rehab that's what I want to know they don't know they don't know that's part of the recovery yeah I don't even worry about that the people are saying that too these people were saying that [ __ ] to me they like I'm your biggest fan in all my twitch streams and then they go why the [ __ ] are you not in the gym working out [ __ ] dude you not see me tearing my [ __ ] [ __ ] in half oh but you're a big fan of mine though yeah they don't they really kept up with me they don't understand that part and what it takes the recovery to rehab but I appreciate that 9.99 subscription him and he's been able to uh give him some big contributions when he could and he's done a great job of um just staying ready for the moment and obviously like game six you know he went crazy he went crazy crazy he started doing the here I there's there's levels of Dilo when Dilo start hitting this that means like he's at level one that's like the signature then when he started hitting this that's two okay and then we start here like that that means he's like like level three yeah okay definitely at level three on that night he he was balling I talked to him after the game told him how proud I am of him and I'm just happy look all I want to see for your own peoples and partners is just like I just want to see him like just be appreciated yeah right and to feel that he he's his worth is being recognized that's all I care for especially for them to take them back because he he went through that rough patch in his first stint with the whole Nick Young situation and he was kind of like doing how am I getting everyone involved like my mind's always spinning so I'm not really thinking about like taking the time to watch Jaden do these moves and stuff like I'm already thinking about the next play to play after so when I'm sitting on the sideline I'm watching Jaden I'm like man this boy got game like and it's a different type of game it's like a game you can't teach he just got any defend that well like yeah I would say him if I had to say someone I would say him just because I actually took the time to watch like I'm really was a fan I was sitting on the sideline couldn't do anything and I'm watching this game and at a closer level yeah and I was like I gotta I got a big appreciation for the guys that are just smooth like that's the way I played the game that's how I the league I think with some right training he could put some muscle on and stuff that could help him a lot but I feel like um don't give me Twisted I I I I think he's gonna be really good but I think he him and Chet are very similar and what they provide with that that lankiness you know uh their ability to do guard stuff at a at a tall height so um I'm excited I wanna I'm ready to play against him and compete and you know just see him blossom into his career yeah I think he's gonna be special really tells me a lot of high things about him as like as a uh as a character like just as his personality and stuff that he's very uh he's a very good kid so that helps a lot when you're expected to be a generational Talent yeah so I got uh Nico you know my teammate obviously Nico's from France as well and um you know we talking USA French uh France basketball like we're just talking about all of that and he's like P a couple years we got some comp for you guys I love how you gave him
