um one of the most terrifying statistics I ever came across was one detailing out the rationale of the United States Armed Forces for not allowing the inductor you can't induct anyone into the Armed Forces in the US if they have an IQ of less than 83 okay so let's just take that apart for a minute because it's a horrifying thing so the US Armed Forces has been in the forefront of intelligence research since World War one because they were onboard early with the idea that especially during wartime when you're ramping up quickly that you need to sort people effectively and essentially without prejudice so that you can build up the officer corps so you don't lose the damn war okay so there's real motivation to get it right right because it's life and death issue so they used IQ they did a lot of the early psychometric work on IQ okay so that's the first thing they're motivated to find an accurate predictor so they settled on IQ the second thing was the United States Armed Forces also really motivated to get people into the Armed Forces peacetime or wartime wartime well for obvious reasons peacetime because well first of all you've got to keep the Armed Forces going and second you can use the Armed Forces during peacetime as a way of taking people out of the underclass and moving them up into the working class or the middle class right you can use it as a training mechanism and and so there's and left and right can agree on that you know it's it's a reasonable way of promoting social mobility so again the Armed Forces even in peacetime is very motivated to get as many people in as they possibly can and it's difficult as well.you it's not that easy to recruit people so you don't want to throw people out if you don't have to so what's the upshot of all that well after a hundred years essentially of statistic careful statistical analysis the Armed Forces concluded that if you had an IQ of 83 or less there wasn't anything you could possibly be trained to do in the military at any level of the organization that wasn't positively counterproductive okay you think well so what 83 okay yeah one in ten one in ten that's one in ten people and that what that really means that as far as I can tell is if you imagine that the military is approximately as complex as the broader society which i think is a reasonable proposition then there's no place in our cognitively complex society for one in ten people so what are we going to do about that the answer is no one knows say well shovel money down the hierarchy it's like the problem isn't lack of money means sometimes that's the problem but the problem is rarely absolute poverty it's rarely that it is sometimes but rarely it's not that easy to move money down the hierarchy so first of all it's not that easy to manage money so it's a vicious problem man and so it's hard to train people to become creative adaptive problem solvers possible you can't do it you can't do it you put a mighty responsibility but but you can't you can't do that it's training doesn't work it's working six months but it could work in six years now it doesn't work sorry it doesn't work like the dado and that's crystal clear is what

It's incredible how he starts with a random fact and then makes a huge number of assumptions that are absolutely non sequitur and ends with a social hierarchy that has a bottom 10% of people who are useless to a society. My favourite was his claim that the US military is actually designed to promote social mobility and get people out of poverty. "Left and right can agree on that", what a fucking tool.

Peterson promotes race science in an sneaky, dog-whistly way.

Here he's referencing a study by the race realist Linda Gottfredson (the military IQ stuff), who has dedicated articles to Arthur Jensen and J Philippe Rushton, both psychologists, the former who used race science to support segregation and sat on the editorial board of a German neo-Nazi academic journal, the latter who headed the eugenicist Pioneer Fund and wrote racist crap about black dudes. He's also cited Henry Harpending (https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/individual/henry-harpending) when discussing "Jewish Intelligence", and Gregory Cochran, a guy who thinks "homosexuality is not genetic but caused by an infection".

Elsewhere he retweets and interviews white nationalists like Stefan Molyneux, Lindsay Shepherd (who appears on white supremacist podcasts), defends pundits who spread the "white genocide myth" and "the great replacement theory", hangs out with wackos like Mike Cernovich and Steve Sailer, is paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by racist, Islamophobic organizations (Ezra Levant and company), and allies with Doug Ford, a politician with connections to alt right and white nationalists. He's also come to the defense of Caylan Ford, a woman who is saddened by the demographic replacement of white people from their homelands and who thinks western civilization collapses unless run by white dudes.

He's also plugged into the whole Charles Murray/Richard Herrnstein movement (and has retweeted/mentioned Murray several times), who try to argue that social welfare is a waste of time because low IQ is caused by genetics and "poverty is caused by low IQ" and "some people" (non whites) are innately "less competent" and by extension "doomed to poverty" and "we don't know what to do about that!". Such thinking has itself always had creepy overlaps with libertarianism.

Beyond this he also promotes a form of social Darwinism in which Judeo-Christian values - and so implicitly "white, western culture" - are innately evolutionary superior to other cultures. He's also said Palestinian Arabs suffer resentment ideology because they're jealous of Jewish competence (a modern version of "Africa is poor because the black man is lazy"), and when talking about the third world constantly downplays Imperialism, exploitation etc, whilst simultaneously boosting the idea that these are places suffering cultural/corruption/spiritual problems. The end result is a schema which resurrects old racist arguments, but with all mentions of race removed.

With regards to his thoughts in this video, it's amazing how twisted his concerns are. He's worried about "the economy of the future being too smart for poor people" because "poor people are poor because they are dumb" (he reverses causation; capitalism breeds and needs an under-educated, impoverished underclass, which in turn suffers mental/physical abuses which entrenches certain problems further).

He also thinks we live in a meritocratic world which selects for usefulness, competency and value. But we have studies by the New Economic Foundation (the Social Return on Investment Analysis) showing that pay tends to inversely correlate with socially valuable work (the more useful you are to society, the less you are paid, the more you harm the environment/society, the more you're rewarded), and other studies showing how luck and a bevy of other historical factors play a larger part in success/pay than IQ, diligence, hard work, intelligence, culture etc. The issue is not that we can't find socially useful work for poor people, because they're too dumb, it's that we're overpaying socially useless work, dumb people, and parasiting off whole chunks of the planet and calling them stupid.

First of all, yeah, the claim that the army is in place to contribute to social mobility is dumb. Secondly, you can't extrapolate recruitment conditions to society at large. The unemployment in e.g. the US, is around 3,5%, i.e way below 10%. Further, even though IQ-rate isn't all that malleable for the individual across that person life, but it is malleable across generations. We e.g. know that average intelligence has risen a lot just since the 50's.

But yeah, regardless, this is a dog whistle.

Also, the fact that IQ isn't individually malleable, is an argument in favour of certain social programs, not against them. If you believe a person is stuck being down on his luck through no fault of his own, with no chance of his prospects changing, that counts in favour of this person needing some assistance of some kind. It would be a down right injustice not to help such people.

It ain't subtle. Peterson had an hour-long, chummy discussion with white nationalist Stefan Molyneux about how stupid and genetically inferior minorities and poor people are. They discussed how Jewish people have elevated "verbal IQ" (implying that Jews are manipulative sophists) but deficient "spatial IQ." Peterson seriously entertains the "Jewish question" Nazi conspiracy theory and ties it into race and IQ pseudoscience. He humanizes and psychologizes Nazism in a way that he would never do for communism or socialism. He parrots the ideas of fascist mystics like Eliade, Evola and Campbell.

I wouldn't go so far as to say Peterson is a closet Nazi, but he obviously has sympathy for a large chunk of Nazi ideology.
