Jon Lovitz On Patrice O'Neal: The Best Of The Best Of The Best

I was telling Mark I used to write jokes for Patrice O'Neal and i' go to his apartment in Brooklyn and he had a tiny little dog with long hair I don't know what kind of dog it was and he would pet it like a bond villain while I pitch jokes to him it's like uh was it you know everyone says he was brilliant I never knew the guy and then I met him sadly like three weeks before he passed away and it was at the Charlie Sheen roast and so I didn't know who he I mean I obviously knew he was you know some comic but I'd never met him I didn't I really didn't know know him at all and and um but anyway we're walking up the stage to to do the roast and he's behind me he goes so how does this work again and I said well just I go they introduce you and then you just basically do you know you make fun a little and do your act they go it's I go it's no different than stand up but you're making fun you know fun of somebody okay so anyway he we're all doing the roast and then I I used to do the frier roast at the at the frier club and you really only made fun of the guy that was being honored you know that was the point but these things you know they make fun of everybody which I didn't really like I go I'm not there to be roasted I'm here to roast but anyway so people were making fun of them and saying you know you're so fat you have diabetes which was sadly was true but anyway it was they're you know they're all doing it so he's looking around and then he he was sitting next to William Shatner they were sitting in front of me and then Patrice just he didn't do his actor anything he threw away whatever he had prepared he went okay okay he goes I think I understand what this thing is and then he he basically summed up the whole night so far and everyone's thing and then making jokes I mean it was really something else it was and then and then they he finished and then I said William Shatner goes Patrice that was brilliant my God you just summed up the whole night in I go oh my God that was amazing but it was he I mean he was so funny
