Jennifer Lawrence Honors Orville Peck at the GLAAD Media Awards

please welcome Academy Award winning actress Jennifer Lawrence hi Gay I love seeing so many humans who can top their field while still being power bottoms [Applause] not to mention what it feels like to be in a room with this many men and not need mace I love the gay community in fact I was in love with a homosexual it was my first love I tried to convert him for years but now I know conversion therapy doesn't work did you hear me Mike Pence I said conversion therapy isn't real even though I know you think it worked on you you know he's in New York tonight I know I know he's receiving a Kid's Choice Award for weirdest dick I didn't write that [Laughter] one I'm here tonight because my favorite musician and good friend Orville peek is receiving The veto Russo award which is given to an artist who has made a significant difference in accelerating lgbtq acceptance Orville is the definition of a Trailblazer he's a self- toop musician whose lical power and unbelievable voice are all packed into one smok and hot body Orville's capacity to be his own creative director reminds me of dare I say [Music] [Applause] beyon what if I said me I discovered Orville peek through his music video for dead of night I was Spellbound and and only took three whole days for me to binge his album Pony then go back to his earlier work with Bronco oh what was that yesterday he released volume one of his duet's album Stampede which I hear is aw just kidding oral and I met one night at a party he wasn't wearing a mask so I was just enjoying speaking to this Chic smart lovely man I can't remember exactly what he said probably telling me he's a huge fan or something but suddenly I recognized that velvet voice and I stopped and like choked out like are you Orville PE and in my memories he winked at me but now that I know him he definitely didn't do that he probably just said yeah anyway one thing led to another and a girl from the south of America and a boy from the south of Africa talked country mu music and growing up country all night long after swapping numbers and live texting during Housewives soon we took it to the next level and he invited me over for the best short rib I've ever had in my life he's also a full-blown Chef I keep telling him you are hot do less like me what I noticed in my friendship with Orville is that I and everyone around him feels completely free to be themselves there is a solidness and a self-respect and love that Orville has for himself that he effortlessly casts on to other people when I knew I would be presenting this award to Orville I called his partner Billy who's also hot and Billy grew up in a religious household and struggled with accepting his sexuality for a long time when he met Orville he described falling in love with him as healing Orville had a different upbringing his mom loved him and accepted him and because of that she made a Boy Who Loved himself and could listen to himself sorry [Applause] aama um he's a he's a transmitter of love and goodness in the world and is the amazing human we know and love today today Orville you are a Pioneer in music and fashion you are a compelling Storyteller who uses your platform to speak up for everyone and you're changing the game for the lgbtq community and country music I am so proud to call you my friend glads VTO Russo award is presented to an lgbtq media professional who has made a significant difference in accelerating lgbtq acceptance and tonight I'm thrilled to present this award to my dear friend oracal peek [Applause] I [Applause] thank you so much uh thank you to Sarah Kate Ellis and Anthony Ellen Ros and the Glad staff uh Jen thank you for that beautiful introduction I love you um I've never understood why country music has historically been a place that hasn't felt welcoming to the lgbtq plus people the kind of country songs I grew up loving were often about heartbreak heartache loss Solitude disappointment and longing feelings that can at times be big parts of our experiences growing up queer so you'd think would be a natural fit there's also a mutual love of drama flare adventure and I see a lot of rhinestones sparkling in both communities that's the world that Drew me in with its Vivid storytelling that's the country I always saw and maybe the reason it was so clear for me that I belonged there whether that meant being invited to the table or walking up and grabbing a seat myself it was often the latter I am just one of many of us here that have at one time or another felt excluded or held back because of who we are whether that be a genre a culture a sport a job a school a friendship or even our own families but we as a community have always had the incredible power to take our heart and our tragedies and turn them around into art humor and culture for those of us in this room with a platform that is not just our ability it is also our responsibility to be strong enough to provide the incredibly important task of visibility to allow some kid in a small town who loves country music to see themselves in me or Mickey gon or TJ J Osborne a responsibility to protect and encourage them into a world where they believe that they do belong at any seat at any table while I feel extremely grateful to be part of the current Reclamation of country music that is happening there are a lot of folks who also helped to move the dial allies and friends like Shania Twain Tanya Tucker Willie Nelson Mickey gon Marin MO Midland I am so proud to work with glad in making country music more diverse and the World At Large more diverse and more of an understanding and loving place in closing I would also like to thank my beautiful encouraging family friends and my incredible partner Billy thank you for encouraging me to be myself and which is a skill that I hope I can pass on to others thank you again
