in the country and being one I mean two two three years being top 10 pick I mean it's up to him though he's so gifted man like it's just it's all you know I mean it's all it's the country man this is what you get you ain't say anything yeah wait until we so watch you gotta pay real close attention to like the sign to tell you where you gotta turn no GPS you can use them four days to come with me it'll be hard to um blow up because we're in the middle of nowhere I had to grow up on my own man I see my family as much not being around my moms people from Alabama was just right there yeah so I can get my mom know he's come up a lot so now they working I'm working so now I have to grow up on my own got it try to do a lot of stuff on my own like early in the seasons or it's a little bit shaky now now in the season I can see myself all grown up bam being pro being a pro honestly that's it my heart quit one two three hey go straight up now let's go come on shot there it is one two three left hand he missed the dump [Music] all those points said he still should have been responsible even though he missed him how does it made me feel like when he got to see your mom go to work like right after your game uh it motivated me like even more like puts a whole another like fire in my body if I'm like seeing her coming to my game and how to go to work feed me put clothes in my back and all that I was like once I see that I can like we get in the gym I'm gonna do that and do that so when once I like go make them M's like they had to quit her job man do it finish real go get up one coming to it [Applause] man listen somebody wrote around who were on Flat Tire Man oh we just work out twice a day once in the morning and once in the afternoon every day no days we had no gym accent the court caught the street from uh let's go love you guys outside we had no answer to the gym why you always jump you know your wife yeah people know you're horrible but he's driving home because he don't like him and Debbie bragging like he know you're good but he don't like just brag about it don't double team cheats you know in jail I'm a junior on Calhoun basketball team you know JD my partner said Elementary School we go way back we go way back like backpacking me was he always quiet you're saying that typical JD humble goofy can't remember nobody all he do is like play joke laugh every time you see him he always on the same thing shoot most most of our training what happened outside like all our workout we used to do outside at the court in the yard all the redness though we never had like no track no inside jail nothing that we always been outside we used to like work out like twice a day like we'll wake up early in the morning workout then we'll go work out again in the afternoon and dude he used to like be on he used to be on us like so hard we used to be out like random getting in shape and stuff we used to be like so tired about 10 Deep air training house wake up going to work out come home go to sleep get up play the game work out again same routine every day you know we got to have that super food plate 290s got to have that bread for now people I live myself at the game for one particular reason because I was going like just Tatum and yeah Jayden Brown and I finally got caught in the post I got hit but but just tell them show them out here I can't take that like not right now so I'm like almost just live like three to four times a week to to get up back up even though they might not be the biggest is the NBA strength is different yeah is way different they're seeing them they live after every game did they tell you why like is it is it to maintain or is it to gain uh I really don't know they don't they don't say anything they just go there wow after every game it can be like is it like heavy lifting yeah so you just add you that's one thing you add into your routine yeah definitely it ain't like he in one word you're like you're tired we're just still still get through it ahead of time we're doing ball handling because he was smaller oh God and a few finishing they ain't really done they just ain't nobody knew him for real and when we come from like like that to meet up here one day did he put a gym around one day what do you call this place Court everybody he broke it yeah that's how we went to South Carolina he said they're gonna be turned South Carolina so we're coming up there in South Carolina now you feel me wait a minute it's on camera bro yeah you noted that bro we don't put we don't have a t-shirt on he go county is uh probably the second poorest county in Alabama it's very rural so agricultural jobs are probably what you're gonna find around here for the most part anything else you're probably gonna have to go outside the county you know any and that's hard on kids because if you have to go outside the county to work you know growing up you probably don't have that that Mom and Dad at home because like again they're going to work and you know and then you have a lot of you of our kids in a situation where they're in a single parent home or they don't have a parent at all they either all right Uncle you know grandmother you know Granddad you know everything is different here you know everything that you see is in a typical uh town or whatever you think is normal normal is not what you got to get here you know you expect unexpected and it's not in a bad and bad way that I say these things it's just different and our kids grow up hard you know and that's why I think a lot of our kids are you know they like to joke around you know because every situation is not happy so they find ways to joke and make each other laugh and make each other happy and that's why they're such a close-knit or a group of guys because again you know the struggles here in Miles County it's hard three oh [Applause] my God gonna make that they hit me he do that my mom you got more in the bag okay so funny story um the way I got in touch with him I got down in Luverne Ro Harris had me come train his high school team in uh Laverne so he told me hey man I got this guy I want you to meet and at that time uh it was torn Jerome Harrison JD older brother so he got us in contact with each other I remember the first time we talked on the phone we talked about a little 45 minutes just about basketball and he was like man I want you to come down uh work my brother out you know just see you know see what you think so on the first time I came in here um quiet kid man even to the day don't don't really don't really say much he didn't say anything to me when we worked out at all uh he just listened to everything I said and he went and did it it was it was funny because he wasn't real person when I understood that coming from where we come from you know you kind of reluctant to you know not know people that you've been around just know I met him at a camp it wasn't like that we were the best friend or anything like that but you know he remembered me but at the end of the day he was quiet but the first thing I saw was the athleticism and I think he did it between the legs don't one time and I was like I've never seen that of this nature before um you know at that time you know he's gotten better at shooting the basketball but you could see he was kind of a little raw but um you know you saw the upside that this kid had so that was the first time like you know I got the the meeting to be around you've been around JD long enough even when you first met um I just think you know he he tries to fill people out and I think that that goes for you know that's you know his family you know make sure you feel people out um you know he just was quiet man he just went about his business um you know I tell him and do a certain drill he'll do it uh he wouldn't say how he felt the whole workout he just you know he just was quiet man so um that's probably like the biggest thing you know he was a fire kid first time I ever seen him play in the game I came down worked out with him it was an away game against Greenville uh it was probably one of the package gyms I ever seen I didn't know it get that packed in Greenville before so it was standing room only just to see just to see the kids play limes outside the door I got another story for that one but uh it was you know when I walked in with so many people and I remember uh just seeing them Glide up and down the floor um you know you only see those from guys I've been able to work with a lot of top guys a lot of you know I've been working with NBA guys before and to see his movement see up and down how fast he is up and down the floor gliding and being able to get his teammates involved he threw like a number of no little passes and I remember he came down and he did a rock the cradle dunk and I never forget when I seen that I was like man this this kid this kid could be real special um he had a couple jump shots that night too so that was my first time and then actually I didn't know how big that he actually like how I was because me being from Alabama you know I've seen some top players come through here but not the Fanfare that he had um you know I remember going to Carver for their uh tournament and the line was outside the door to try to get in to see him the only way what was funny was my guy at Carver Cole Jackson That's the only way I got in I got to the game late so I called him I was like hey coach could you let me in I had my daughter with me at the time and Coach like yeah bro you know I let you in so I got in stay in the room only um I think they played against I forgot the name of the team they played against and I think that night uh I had a coach from Texas called assistant coach and Chester come watch him play for the first time and he ended up having I think it was 50 he had over 50 points that game and I remember going outside because I left the game a little early in the third quarter and I remember leaving outside it was people all the way on the street trying to get in the game and it was the second half and I remember telling people man y'all might as well go home because y'all ain't gonna get in the game so just to see the impact that he's had in this state um it's it's crazy and they see the potential he has it's crazy is it away none of them are really that close so there's nobody can you know you can say okay I'll walk yeah we'll see you tomorrow then you're gonna be walking the rest of the night because it may you may live 20 miles from the school so yeah when they say you know coach I don't have a ride most of the time they tell them the truth sometimes you know they may be a little tired they may feel baby once in a while but for the most part yeah you know and I feel for him you know especially because you know if I'm if I can't get to them they really don't have a ride so it's rough and but you know you adjust to it you know this being my fourth year I've adjusted to it and now that I know that hey I may have to get you know from my house to here usually it's gonna take me about 40 minutes I may have to leave you know two hours earlier because I may have to go around and round some guys up and drop them off and then go this way and pick somebody up and drop them off you know just to make let me get that people don't really get to see when they keep saying that you're just like a doctor and so that you feel like you've displayed in the season mostly in my past like that's my biggest asset of my game but I can't you let me do all that because they have to score the ball and do all that yeah so when people say there's a donkey and a score I just look crazy on some crazy type you feel and don't have won that game but when I when I started got hurt like like two days and then at that practice he got hurt for that game I was the last person to walk out the gym and I looked up at um then I was it was from Alabama University of Alabama so they weren't even looking for it not at first no you've been the life every game for all his games and his three other brothers games for his high school yes I might have missed one or two AAU games out of his whole career yeah when JD was like five six seven when you're playing Mr Jerome Harris they told us then that he was going to be special I'm like okay I still didn't I don't know if I'm still am I at reality yet but they want this I mean we had a zoom like every other hour every two hours we had a different school doing a zoom and it was just like oh my goodness I gotta do a zoom and then I'm trying to get sleep I work at night but 12th grade really really really really got crazy and that was really really crazy because they told me
