do sometimes those with the most talent don't even know they've got it [Music] i've spent half my life around dirt bike races i know the difference between those who look fast and those that are fast last year i met jackson mcgrath at a glance your token motocross rider on a yz-250 he's not even set up for off-road and basically smoking everyone just a happy humble dude who knows how to hold it on he hits me up for advice says he's going to race fink slow down buddy you don't just rock up to think you need to be prepared so after plenty of conversations and the natural gravitation of support from others here we are at the gascoigne dash jacko's first experience of desert [Music] racing [Music] a little wild a little loose jaco sets the second fastest time in prologue [Music] desert racing is a sporting culture like no other it's deadly serious on the bike far from serious off the bike if you don't have any support your fellow riders become your crew it's just how it is in the desert race day and jacko's as ready as he'll ever be i've played the desert racing game for a few years so offering my experience is the least i can do before jacko goes into battle [Music] just like that the front runner explodes his engine and jaco takes the lead leading a race is one thing but spearheading a high-speed charge through the desert is something a rare few will ever know this is jacko's first time racing a machine built for high speed his first time racing at high speed and i think he's hooked [Music] now [Music] by the time you hit the road point you're in first what happened there yeah so obviously um cody's bike must have broke down and i seen him on the side of the track waving me through so no injury obviously yeah i'm unfortunate for him so you could have a good battle on your hands yeah oh well you latched on to hewitt eh yeah got to his back we all crossed the finish line with him so oh first stop tomorrow it's going to be on he's not going to sleep well tonight how'd you go mate you're looking pretty settled when you come through not bad mate she's pretty rough that's probably the hardest thing i've ever done in my life you reckon you've ridden a bit of now you reckon that's it but she's hot she's cooking out of here fast rough i just pulled out the limiter 15 minutes down the road yeah i heard there was a flat out straight what's that all about wedge yeah just flat out man have you ever held a dirt bike that flat for that long nah i felt bad for the bombing did y'all put some fresh oil in it tonight go on give it to it yeah no good stuff mate oh well halfway great to see you out here brother the halfway point of a desert race is no man's land nothing is what it seems and the leaderboard is simply a tally of those who are still in the race more riders will fail more engines will explode and your best intentions may never be enough to get you across the finish line so so [Music] [Music] to this point jaco has had a dream run but the desert always has the final say [Music] the anticipation of an approaching rider elevates your heart rate and sets off anxiety [Music] in the desert there's nothing more distressing than when your rider doesn't arrive at the refuel especially when their fiancee is standing by your side there are only two outcomes the bike has stopped or the rider is injured thankfully jacko is fine [Music] and just as it did yesterday the lead position is taken by the next rider go get it brady black [Music] i feel jacko's gained years of experience in the last few days and something tells me his desert racing story has just begun [Music] you
