hey hey what's good everyone my name is Jim Judah future you know what I'm about thank you for joining me on my channel today today I'll be taking a look at the brand new isotope Neutron 3 so I want to show you how to use this in a typical hip-hop urban track mix and I'm going to show you the differences on how to set it up because it may be confusing at first if you've never used anything that's kind of like automated like this and basically the whole premise of this plug-in is that which takes feedback from all your mixer channels and kind of sets the levels for you so it was a perfect way to start a mix especially if you don't have a whole lot of time or if you're beginner and you kind of look and see things better than you can actually hear them and I think it's a lot of fun so I'm going to show you what this is about and we want to make this beat sound like magic let's get first things first isotope neutron 3 the biggest question that people are gonna have is like how much does it cost well for Vance is gonna be $299 I have a few guys have previous versions like Neutron 2 standard or advanced your prices can vary from 99 dollar upgrade from standard to standard so 2 standard 3 standard or it's a hundred and 99 no actually let me take that back 149 if you're going from advanced to advanced and I think the biggest difference between the standard and an advanced version of the isotope series is usually the plugins um advanced allows the plugins to be standalone so like if you just like the EQ a lot you can use it by itself when certain tracks versus having to load the entire Neutron bundle so I'll show you what that looks like in my plugin lists in studio one alright so I'm in studio one version 4.5 as you can see with my isotope bundle here I have Neutron 3 and all the neutron 3 modules separate that's a side effect of good advanced version if you didn't have the advanced version you'll just have neutron 3 by itself which is just as good so in this particular track there's really nothing going on on the mixer itself though I do use through your ones gain staging however when using this plug-in you really don't need to do that but what happens is the studio one we hit this gear icon you have these input controls and what input controls allow you to do a set of pre fader gain stage that's very similar to how isotope really would work if you look at some of my previous mixing videos I would use relay to do so ironically if you're using visual mixer neutrons three you could just use relate to do this if you know going into the beat that you're going to use it or if it's in your template in my case I just turned all these tracks down for whatever reason the vsts and drums I use are very loud but anyway so my problem is everything is not really balanced I haven't paid anything and it sounds cool you know from a production standpoint like why making the beat but it's not mixed by any stretch of the imagination so what I would want to do is so my fingers to unity and then I wanna set the buses like I have so all of my instrument tracks which are four of them you know a synth pad up Reggio and a flute all these are going to a keys bus I want to repeat that same fashion for my drum buss and then the only thing that's kind of free or naked is this little fire effects which I think it's pretty cool for ambience I'll use that for the intro of my track now what you want to do to get this visual mixer to communicate properly is use neutrons visual mixer that's this plug-in here so I want to start with it on the master Channel let's bring it in and what's going to happen is it's going to talk to the other tracks and assign them to this particular grid this is like 3d space so when things go vertical to get louder when they go down to get lower left right and diagonal this is pretty impressive and what's going to happen is all your tracks gonna show up here but in order to communicate that to the visual mixer you don't either need a relay instance on all the tracks or Neutron instance and the reason why there's two different options is because maybe you don't use Neutron as your channel strip I know like when I do underground hip hop or boom-bap I might be more fond of the need for the SSL colors for a channel strip however for everything else I can use Neutron so there's a few tracks right off the gate I know I'm gonna use Neutron and that's gonna be all my instruments I'm not gonna do anything to these tracks yet I'm just gonna duplicate it now you do use CPU by using these this way I'm gonna be okay for this video but if you look at the bottom left corner of my screen my performance is already increased I'm also going to use neutron itself on the base insert because it has a pretty cool feature that allows you to sculpt the sound when you look at it there's a new plugin they have called sculptor and it has a bunch of different targets they can use base being very useful especially sub-base and it just works for magic I would lie to you and pretend like I know what's going on but then I'll end up sounding like I said our base is a parametric EQ now everything else which in this case is just my drums of my effects sweet it's gonna be relay and basically relay is kind of like your pre fader effects so you can do a stereo with hair panning and volume and that's a replacement for mix to love you studio one or the utility plugin if you Mableton live and I'm pretty sure fruity loops Pro Tools and Cubase may have similar but I used to use this just for gain staging I'll turn everything down negative 9 or negative 12 before I start mixing your track nowadays I don't have to do that because now we have this pre fader built in the studio one however we still need relay for every track we're not using Neutron on that we still want to show up in the visual mixer so now that that's all set and all my channels are back to zero we're gonna go back into this visual mixer and now you see the names of all your tracks this is very useful but in order for it to kick in for what we actually want to do we wanna turn on the mix assistant and you get two options it's going to tell you how to use it and then it's gonna tell you what it does and it's telling you to reset your track volume and pan and make sure you put in a relay Lutron on all the tracks I'm gonna go back real quick and I'll show you what I mean so now says select the focus for your mix do you see how it has the relays in green and the neutrons in orange go ahead and assist everything that's compatible you see what I mean so it's actually pretty intuitive it shows you what it's gonna do prior to me clicking in these it was just going to do to relay tracks of course but I wanted to do all of them including my base and now I wants to know what the focus of my track is this is tricky because you think what trap you won't want it to be base but I only see two options here either it's going to be my base and you put a star next to it or it's gonna be my flute in fact let's see what happens if we put the focus on both of them I'm going click on begin listening and all you have to do is play your track to it little results now it gives us some control here the focus is balanced air and these are basically like a macro of buses and what they do is it groups the tracks together that it thinks belong together like in this case percussion is probably all my drums musical is probably the sense and the focus is data weight in the food and you can turn them up and down a few months oh I'm gonna play this track and turn it down so you can hear a change [Music] now everything's been turned down and that's just a starting point that's just to get your mind into the to the matrix so to speak if I didn't choose myself as the focus it would show up on base and if you have vocals which is probably with this really prolific four voice would show up is literally a mix assistant like allow your prolific mix engineers have a guy who color coaster tracks names and sets up two groups and busses and does the preliminary fader moves this is attempting to be that so I can imagine a few more updates it might be mixing everything for us which is what I predicted a few years ago but that's none of my business one last thing while we're on the screen you can edit classification so any of these sounds like my drums for instance if they showed up on anything else I can move them to the correct track type in this case my rimshot got shuffled in the musical let's go ahead and put that in percussion boom I hit accept what's gonna happen is all these tracks show up in their perspective level that relay in the visual mixer decided they should go and now you can start moving them left to right to pan them and this is where it gets kind of trippy so let me rewind and play it that I move the bass to the focus by itself I have my rimshot again and you'll notice when you look at my faders now all the levels got turned down drastically and I'm not peeking no more now what I want to do is actually mix it like move things around so I set up my buses earlier I want to mute my drums and just focus on instruments and I will take my drums out of focus by clicking on this eye icon now should only see my instruments and matter of fact let's take my bass outside don't accidentally delete it this needs us fire for now you see as I move the flute to left that goes left as competing with this plucks out perfect so what I'm listening for is just to see that they're compatible with each other I heard the plug I heard a flute I hear my arp at the bottom that's like a trance gate then i hear the little sparkles the clouds at the top now i can go to the respective neutrons and then use the actual mix assistant and you see that it set the level for us so when play this track one instrument at a time and let's see what happens let's do tracking hands this is one of the arms so still has the great features that the previous one had i want to say the GUI looks a lot better let's turn a piece off for now or actually not it's gonna new trying on our base necks let's see if it guesses the correct instrument on it to actually know let's make this up front high-intensity I want this to break your phone speaker house rumbling now this sculptor thing they put it first to shape your base and it's pretty cool let's see if we can solo that and hear what it's doing you see the shape start to change it's almost like that a plugin that they had was that plug-in called not the transient shaper who's the other one thing spectral shaper is almost like it's a built-in spectral shaper it's like it looks like it's moving so it's like multiband I know what this is iZotope you Eisley this may or may not be like go false EQ but that's not my business anyway anyway anyway sounds great so make sure everything is really crisp and clear and that's what you want when you're mixing your metals so we got the bass we got our first art figured out the flute is not gonna be up front in my mix but I wanted to be a higher intensity for sure and basically I have all my because there's only four elements I kind of made it like a box or a cross in terms of the panning and leveling and like I said it makes so much more sense when you see it so tone adds more frequencies here if it's goal is positive and it ducks them almost like a low-pass filter if you bring it down so I guess you keep this at a hundred percent and then figure out its own right it sounds like trash there's almost like the harmonics exciter but in the night in terms of function but in terms of how you use it you know a/b you go all 100% mix figure out your harmonics and then bring the mix down same thing with the tone in the level of sculpting we're Goodman all right and then the last part is just don't the set of drums which I don't have a lot but those are set to relay right so let's go ahead and worry about that let's meet the instruments this time in the bass and do the drums by itself I'll turn the fire off to visual mixer let's disable this those tracks that we did already so I don't have them in these rooms but as you can see the rim shot is to focus that's gonna be closer to where my 808 was for sure my base is way up here let's bring my rimshot closer you can adjust spread these paws open I had a chill out but when you move it down it's actually behind the the hats no triplets that is cool nice yo se now at least I could turn its actual fader down so when you're done with the visual mixer you can go back to your dos faders and then rebalance things especially to do automation or if you had effects after the fact so imma turn this bass down and blend it back in with these two so my sneakers hit around negative six sometimes this is around negative 15 to 24 I'll bring my basis over [Music] boom not peeking no more and everything has his own space so that's the way I like it it's almost a period I feel like I'm missing some rare maybe that's the fire right let's see what the fire and it like if you forgot or you go later on the track and you add something else will it put it individual mixer automatically there's a relay here now if you don't want it to say relay double click on the relay track and mean it so this is effects fire and then we go back to the visual mixer should be called fix fire so that's gonna be on my right we'll make it more stereo so the last thing of course is going to be your final level because it turned everything down for us which is useful and that level looks really good so if you want to bring it back to life that's when you use ozone so I'm bring a zone in after the visual mixer and just tell it to automatically mix the track for us and we'll do that by not Mix Master you know what I'm trying to say let's focus on that hook region we're gonna hit play I'm gonna turn that mastering assistant on and let's see what happens I'm actually used target streaming alright let's see what it found it except Maximizer is set to negative one negative fourteen lufs streaming cool let's start from the top let's feed in this fire effect clean mixers in texture so not going into the raid there's a nice clean mix then I spend that much time warning maybe maybe 15 minutes maybe like a couple minutes on the beat itself couple minutes on the mix put ozone on then at the end that takes two minutes yeah you get a lot done in our man especially my people out there who make beats on the weekends getting a let's on your time mix [Music] [Music] beats fire but yeah man it seems you the future you know what I'm about that's isotope neutron advanced and that's how you visually mix a trap record listen joy go play God needs a little super clean super easy to use as always link will be in the description of the video if you got comments questions or concerns let me know um if you want to see me use the visual mixer more definitely check me out on twitch TV for size into the future thank you guys for your support until next time peace you
