It Lurks Below - Crafting Building Survival RPG!

what's up guys and gals and welcome back to the nerd castle today we're checking out it lurks below an action-rpg that was created by the guy that made diablo if that doesn't get you like properly titillated i don't really know what will in the world of gaming that's like the ultimate hype right there like you don't really have like a thing he made a legendary game that everybody has played and knows about a huge part of my childhood so I figured now that it's out on Steam we'll give it a swing and we'll kind of like see what happens with it all right let's do this thing let's play the game we'll create a new character we can go with our hairstyle our head our character class okay let's maybe do I don't know I'm fine with having like a shaved head or whatever we got like a little mohawk action right there that seems alright kind of run through these and see what we got available I'll probably go with like the shaved buzz head that looks good as far as our heads concerned we can have like one eye missing okay what's haven't I missing that sounds good I'm gonna have like an eye that's gone we've had some kind of accident I don't know what's occurred but along the way somehow we've ended up with like a missing ocular we've got our skin colour which I feel like is more or less okay okö we can have like a cool beard yeah let's have let's have that right there we gotta have the handlebar moustache and as far as our chest goes we can have boobage or no boobage and then our character class okay we can be an enchanter we can use the power of the mind to stop and destroy our enemies I'm gonna have a necromancer that plays with life and death and creative and malicious ways we've got a paladin with the power of the ancient gods you know that's the one I'm gonna pick I'm a big paladin guy we've got rogues warriors wizards bards clerics okay well now we've got cleric versus pallid I'm gonna go cleric let's do cleric that sounds awesome I'm down with clerics it's gonna be splat the cleric because that's what we're gonna make the enemies of our God do just splat take care of them with that Warhammer we're on survival mode for those that are up to the challenge of surviving hordes of monsters while simultaneously dealing with hunger and fatigue farm crafted cooked to stay alive long enough to clear the dungeon of demonic infestation okay wake up wake up so I guess here we are starting off right we got to make some weapons so pick up some sticks from the ground and craft a starting weapon with the crafting panel all right apparently I could throw a punch out there's a stick over there what is that a cabbage yeah let's go ahead and take that we're gonna take the cabbage I'm gonna need that in my life right now I'm gonna need that we've got a ripe carrot right here all right I'll take that there's one of our sticks that they were talking about we've got some grain and some berries yeah let's get some berries over here we've got some wheat that sounds good yeah we've got a new recipe discovered all right we're moving on up in the world we've got new recipes I don't want to fall in that pit right there because I got a feeling we're not gonna be able to get out of it once I'm in that pit so there's our crafting weapon right there and what kind of weapons can I make so as far as weapons go we've got a wand of magic spark we've got a mace and a shield well there you go we've got a mace in a shield and we can just wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah-wah we can go ahead and just like chop our way through the enemies right there if we really need to sounds good and what is that some giant rats do i level up or anything else like that I would assume that I do it said action-rpg let's go ahead oh we want that dude apparently there's a rock right there yeah let's grab a couple of those our objective is complete good survival of the fittest we need to gather some food and eat it okay where's our food at we got like berries or anything around yeah there we go got like berries on our four key go ahead and eat those perfect and then we got a rest to regain our energy so we can just like sleep on the ground as much as we want also got a new recipe right there we got tools for the job so we need a simple pickaxe and an axe how hard is that to make so with these simple pickaxe we're gonna need three sticks four rocks and some tough grass then we're gonna need okay so just tough grass and a bunch of other stuff do I want the grass over here how do I get a rock there we go let's get the carrot I don't like carrots that's probably why my eyesight is so bad is because I didn't eat enough carrots when I was a kid but like carrots they make your eyesight better who knew that carrots were the real world cyberpunk version of cyber eyes they just make you see better isn't that the grass right there it is okay so we've got our grasses now I just need like sticks and some others and we'll be able to mash out forward so let's keep an eye out for the grasses that we need I think we've actually more or less picked up enough grass for one of the tools I think sticks are gonna be the big thing that are eluding us right now I want that you know give that to me let me have it I have desire it so that I can chop down trees and I can become stronger and sexier at my job I'm gonna kill this rat right here too because he's like in my way there's no particular beef that I have with the rats right now it's just that like I get tunnel vision when I see things that Armour durable we have anymore sticks okay so let's focus on sticks for right now I'm still gonna pick up all the other like gubbins that we're gonna need in order to survive but sticks are like our main priority right now that's what we're trying to lock down the hardest is just sticks there's one right there and another carry nice okay so I think we might have enough sticks at the moment to do what I want to do these rats are running from us but that's right run from me and terror rats run from me and terror none shall save you I kill you in the glorious gathering of XP I don't even really want you dead I just want XP that's all that I really want so our hunger right now is at 85 let's go ahead and fill that up I'm gonna relax for a second and get some of my stamina back because it looks like it's getting kind of low it's 4:15 p.m. do you like bad things are gonna happen when night gets here huh the sky is all wushi and disgusting right now it is a color that definitely says good things are not about to happen let's open up the crafting menu we've got our ax right there okay I'm gonna put that on my two slot we've got our pickaxe right there put that on my three slot and we're done congratulations we've gained a level we've got to spend a point on our attributes all right let's do it we can go with attack power we can go with vitality man go with mana points or we can go with vigor damage damage sounds pretty cool I like damage alright so we've got an axe right now I want to chop down a tree how do I kill a tree it's an empty berry bush I will take that let's go find like some trees it looks like we actually don't have a whole lot of roughage around with which to interact I do like how the world in the foreground is 3d but then your character is 2d that's an aesthetic that I've always liked what's our next objective by the way oh cool we got a learning potion alright so it wants us to take the learning potion and put it in our slots over here I'm gonna resist the call to fiddle with trees or whatever we're gonna put this like right there and we're gonna drink it nice so we've got the diviner what is the diviner it's an ancient item place them in your main bar and then you use them like instant items okay diviner would you like to be over here we've got thirty seconds so that can be utilized we also have activate my ancient I okay I'll activate it in a minute I will activate that momentarily but for right now I wanted to kill some trees and get some woods so that maybe I can build a house like somewhere in which to hide for when this inevitably goes wrong because I could kind of smell something going wrong very soon yay we can do Diggy's now diggy diggy hole diggy diggy ho imma diggy diggy diggy with my Diggy so there we go so our our hole is I'm trying to flatten this area out so that I can build a house over here okay that's the goal what does the diviner do activate our ancient item how do I use it it's on my quick salat right now so place them in there and use them like instant items you can rank them up by spending gold I'm pressing the four key let's see here items can only be activated from ancient slots Oh okay so like it needs to be like over here okay so it'll be our cue key then hey nice I don't know what that did what did that do it maybe healed me get your class or your next ancient class item at level five so we can cook food right now we can craft a place a campfire and cook any recipe yeah that sounds like a decent plan let's do that can I also place these wooden blocks right here is that possible so if I have these oh I can nice okay so let's like get ready and like lay down a floor oh there's an eyeball over there eyeball what do you want right now did you just fire an eyeball missile at me dude you don't understand like I'm acrobatic out here we're gonna handle this oh I've taken some damage that's unfortunate but I can heal myself and it's no biggie so I would like that to be right there let's get started building like a little home over here that's what we need is we need to have ourselves like a have ourselves a wondrous little death Hut build it out that's what we need to do sorry I went all Michael Buble on you I didn't mean to I didn't mean to it just happens to the best of us from time samel you ever wake up in the morning and all of a sudden you're Michael Buble I don't know man it happens to me from time to time it's not something that I'm like proud of or excited about but it is something that I personally deal with and I think that we should start a Kickstarter or maybe like a charity fund or something for people that wake up Michael Buble that wasn't really what I wanted right there that wasn't really the plan so like let's say that I wanted to have like a door in the middle of this can I do that oh there's another bad guy over here dude don't be like this like you actually actively don't have to be like this right now like you could just do you and nobody would be the wiser I wonder if this stuff like regenerates oh there we go all right looks good yeah that'll be our house right there we're just gonna make a square for right now all right and then we've got like a little pet critter right there that we've trapped underground because you know gotta catch em all that's what Pokemon taught me is that you got to put critters underground I'll put my campfire inside I don't want to do that part of the quest just yet until I've actually got myself some shelter I feel like shelter is very very important right now and it's something that we should be like actively moving towards there we go there's like 30 more wood I do like that we start the game out with a double jump that makes me really really happy this game is definitely invoking kind of terraria or terraria elements right now and I think that's a good thing if you're going to invoke a game you might as well invoke a game that's super rad this man listen do I block does the shield actually do anything or is the shield just kind of like it's oh we got a pushing a minor healing hell yeah that sounds good I like potions potions are good yeah I need you to like drag that down this way perfect all right so let's go to the crafting menu let's look around let's see what's available we've got ourselves fresh-baked bread that we can make if we had a campfire in oven so let's maybe get that started there's our campfire so kind of just drop that right there can I kill things in the background is that possible like how do I kill things in the background ah you hold down shift gosh oh did that guy just try to puke on me yo don't puke on me man oh that guy's got a gun oh my god I wasn't expecting him to have like a magical gat we've got a cup of coffee right there feeling a little sleepy right now let's go ahead and like we're gonna chillax for a little bit and get some stamina back I think obviously this is probably gonna negatively affect our health levels or I'm sorry it's probably gonna negatively affect like our stomach levels oh there's another zombie coming luckily we've got like a sixth sense for when zombies are about to show up don't bug me while I'm trying to sleep next to my campfire bro I'm just trying to chillax right now and you're making this hard what is this that's my survival XP oh cool so we got survival XP and we've got like real-world XP okay I would like this to go away maybe I could put wood blocks in the background too it's probably gonna get pricey doing that but I think I can live with it I'm gonna dig my pit down into the dungeon right here if you're wondering like why I'm doing this so we've got this on this side what kind of foods can I make let's make something delicious out here so we've got some cooked meat yeah bang those out hell yeah we've got bread so we can put that in right there I've also got sauerkraut which can be made out of cabbage I guess alright so Germans rejoice we have the ability to make sauerkraut I personally have never had sauerkraut I have no idea what even goes into it you are going to need a base of operations find a location and fill it with devices so dig up some cobblestone craft and place a forge and then make a workbench okay the guts doable I don't I don't think that's gonna be a challenge at all I think we can make that happen let's go ahead and dig deep deep down say dig dig say down down say deep down in the ground you're all perfect I think we also have another level up available it's just what I'm thinking for right now so there's our cobbles what does it want me to do so it wants me to craft in place a forge let's go ahead and add a little bit more HP - oh wow you get a bunch of HP from that okay you get like agrippa HP from doing that that's the plan right there I'll probably explore over this way and see if I can get a little bit more wood to to kind of like fill out my house and make it a little bit more like liveable and beautiful and wonderfully kind I probably need to eat some food - oh wow bread took care of business right there that's all you need bread is all you need what you need is bread bread bread is what you need what is this right here I want to know what this is what is this just like or well I think it's just like buried rocks I think that's all it is is like subterranean Rock okay so Rock is treated like an ore in this game I can live with that it sounds cool all right well let's go grab some berries I guess I mean food is food we've got a little bit of extra grain it's probably a decent idea to sleep it off for a minute Wow your stamina comes back way faster when you have a full stomach okay so we learn a new thing that's something to note for later let's go ahead and there we go throw some of that meat down our gullet real fast I can I make doors or anything else right now let me look at my crafting menu so we have access to doors but we need to be near a handy-dandy workbench in order to do that so to make a handy-dandy workbench we're gonna need two iron bars which means that I think the Forge is going to be needed first and we need like a metric a stun a stone for that so let's just like dig away over on this side eventually I'll build like a scaffolding over here we'll kind of make it easier for us to get down into like the subterranean depths but for now we're just gonna build a giant disgusting pit over here and hope that it doesn't come back and backfire on us later and as soon as our Forge thing lights up we'll know that we're done on this side come on all right so we have enough stuff for our Forge let's go ahead and see how much space this is gonna take up perfect so our Forge is done we can also do a comfy bed over here I don't think that's a bad idea but we have to make iron bars I don't think I have any iron right now oh I do have iron okay well apparently I have iron I don't even know what I have in my inventory right now apparently I have things all right so we finished off the handy-dandy workbench does offer us we are the best we've got some free carrot seeds as a payment I don't know who I am or what I'm doing getting paid with carrot seeds but you know what no question it's probably not gonna line us up that badly well become hungry as you adventure craft a planter box blueprint clear an area and place the planter box in the world plant any seed in the dirt mound okay now do I have anything like a scaffold so there's the planter box we have that so we can kind of like make this thing I guess over here well we would have to fill in the ground right there though I think like I think it's doable like I think I just need to expand out my little runway right here there we go so now that we have our blueprint let's take that down and after I get a nasty allergy season sneeze out of the way we'll put that right there so there's our planter box and I assume that we need to take seeds and like plant these over here oh I can't get out of my house now damn it I'm trapped cool well that seems alright I don't know what kind of seed I'm planting right now but consider it planted hopefully that'll grow something nice in the near future I need more wood I want to build my base up and make it sexier like I would like for my base to be more awesome if we can make that occur I would have no complaints so let's go scour the land for more tree edge to murder well also pickle I get any doodads and googas and things like that around that we can get underhand perfect a little bit more food in our belly keep ourselves nice and fed up that's a ridiculously oversized ax right there I'd like to think we're not compensating oh it's another laser gun storm trooper and so I'll kill him off real quick what are those I think those are just particle effects I don't think those are anything that has like a function dude I just jumped over a bullet I've got to be the dopest cleric in the history of the world if I have the ability to jump over bullets fast enough where they won't collide with my body they won't go ahead with my bed don't puke on me I don't want to be puked on not today not now not ever our next one is our survival panel will open with V oh we actually level up trees over here okay so apparently I can make a copper pickaxe we can mine faster that sounds pretty sexy how many of these do I get I get four points okay what other pages are there's farming and cooking alright we've also got crop seeds and forging foraging sorry I missed a letter in there you can make health potions that seems pretty useful a large mug we've also got a chicken coop we've got a barn and we've got a beehive sounds good let's get it killed that guy he didn't have a chance I do got laid out on the quick 'ti quick so we've got a noose of crap iron armor make an improved weapon kill commander vile on the surface that's commander vile right there is he hard yeah I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that commander vile is kind of a douchebag I'm gonna need that right there and you're just gonna need to do that for me like I know I'm getting like stomped right now there you go commander vilas down what did he drop a projectile fire wand oh that's so awesome oh my god I've got a laser cannon well what do I need guns for if I've got a laser cannon dude like why are we even bothering with like maces and shields if we've got access it says it's a wand but this is clearly an assault rifle oh dude this is what's up that's a muffle oh definitely not a cow apparently it said mooo at me I think they're referencing the cow level right now we're gonna need to get some sleep too I'm gonna eat some food and let's get back inside and maybe just like crash for a minute well I gotta clear this guy out of my face though yeah that was pretty effective that was pretty ridiculously effective I think I'm okay with the way that that transpired I think that the new weapon systems that we've brought into our newly founded Imperium are going to serve us well in the searching out and unrooted of heretics can I get a little stamina back I would love to have some stamina back I want my stamina stamina stamina I want my stamina all right I also wanted to see if there was the possibility of like scaffoldings or whatever so we have horizontal beams we've got bricks what else do we have in here we're having a good fight now apparently I have fertilized that soil with the blood of mine enemies so that is a ladder step platform that's exactly what I'm looking for right there that's perfect yeah make a bunch of those we're absolutely gonna need those so like with our laser gun I want this to be where'd my laser gun go I want that to be right there so we'll keep that on the one slot now I've got my platforms how do I do the ladders oh it needs to have a background in front of it gotcha so I think our search for woods still continues I think we got to run around and find a few more trees I don't think we have an option there it's gonna be something that has to take place I don't know if maybe I should be planting acorns or anything - I play acorn seeds we got berry seeds got a couple little things around but none of it is like what I'm looking for that looks like a drop right there - maybe that'll take us down into the dungeon possibly oh dude I mined so much faster I'm so happy about this right now my mining speed is definitely way more satisfactory than it was previously yup get it done perfect so we should be able to dig through the soil a little bit faster in cobblestone should be no rival to our prowess at this point there's our trees I'm trying to find like a forest area that'll make this a little bit easier but it's not a lot of trees around hey you know their survival record I am nor more proficient at survival apparently we've got more surface iron right there to which I am kind of interested in gathering for myself I think what's up with this corrupted area can I kill those eyeballs I can't kill the eyeballs unfortunately I wanted to kill the eyeballs but the game was like near you can't kill my Abo's these eyeballs are sacred trees you're around I think we could definitely use a bit more trees like on the map right now but frankly I'm pretty pleased with the game like it's got that terraria like gameplay loop that I think is gonna draw you in that never-ending desire to gather more gear more equipment move yourself up the tech tree and it's also it's also kind of invoking a game called crea I don't know if you ever played the game crea but it was similar to this so like it's an RPG set in a terraria world where you level up and you get more stuff and so this game is very very similar to Korea and I think that Korea deserves a nod while we're going to be playing this game like yes this game is super cool and everything but like Korea I don't know which game started development first but they're both working kind of on the same elements and like the same things apparently I have carrots for days now cuz off for me and my newly found proficiency at having a ton of carrots I have more iron it might be worthwhile to go back in and get myself some iron armor like some gear something to make me a little bit sexier I think but for now I think we're just gonna relax and focus on getting a little bit more wood giggity-giggity you perfect alright let's go ahead and draw back over to the left and I'm gonna try and get this place kind of sealed off from the enemy so a 38 wood we're not gonna be able to complete the whole task just yet but we can't take this over to here and we can't bump that up to there let me get a couple more doorways in here perfect and then we'll just kind of jump up to here and then we'll run this back this direction I honestly don't know how this is all gonna work but there you go we can actually put in walls now too which are pretty sweet in my opinion can I not put anything in right there I would like to apparently I can get all that stuff out of the background now - okay so there's three layers behind you shift we'll get the layer that's directly behind you and then holding down control we'll get the one that's two cells behind you makes sense I'm alright with it if I have to tear out these work benches or whatever in order to get this placed so that everything works out okay I probably will but let's dive on into the crafting menu real fast and let me see what kind of walls I can make out of so I can make shape stone bricks dark stone bricks oh wow those don't convert very readily okay so it's gonna take us a lot of work to kind of get the background filled in on our base that's what we learned here today I kind of want this to go somewhere else how do I tear this out there we go so what I'd like to do is I want this to be outside like I don't really care if it's safe or protected from the enemy like it's cool and everything but it's not that helpful to me where it is right now like I need more real estate to fiddle around with so there we go we can actually put that right there and use it as a bit of a stopgap against our enemies I don't like how it has a rise right there I think what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna iron this out down here perfect my name is flattered
