paw no allergies nothing you just stay there learn about this planet and that's it yeah i got this no problem so where are we going again exactly planet nine it's a hypothetical planet in the far reaches of our solar system hypothetical what's that mean duh andy hypothetical it means you're really hyper what and you [Music] have a lot of hypotheticals what i'm really good at math that's not even a math question you're not even a math question i'm really good at comebacks so what does hypothetical even mean well it sort of means that it's not exactly proven but that it's totally possible huh kind of like bigfoot well bigfoot's not exactly hyper and he doesn't even have a lot of veticles so you are both way off here let me explain [Music] planet nine is a potential super earth orbiting the sun in the far reaches of our solar system twenty times further away from the sun than neptune about 56 billion miles away from the sun a super earth is a planet with a mass greater than earth but less than that of uranus and neptune and if this planet is real it is likely ten times the mass of earth and up to four times bigger than earth as well since planet nine is so far away a year on it is incredibly long if one year on earth is equal to 365 days a year on planet nine is equal to up to 20 000 years but it wasn't always known as planet nine and it might not be known by that in the future in the past this planet was referred to as planet x but recently it was nicknamed planet nine but the actual naming rights of this object will go to the person who discovers it if this planet is ever found the name would then have to be approved by the international astronomical union but most planets are traditionally named for roman gods oh i got the perfect name for this planet if it ever gets discovered what's that bigfoot andy she just said it would likely be named after a roman god i know and bigfoot is the roman god of uh large sneakers wait a second if this planet hasn't even been seen how do we expect to even find it yeah if it's anything like bigfoot we'll just tie a banana to a string and wait for it to show up what andy that's ridiculous that idea would never work prove it no because it wouldn't even revert it's impossible and i don't even think we have okay fine crusty face can you do me a favor and release a banana on a string andy seems to think it's gonna bring planet nine out no problem guy see i told you the banana on a string wouldn't work it was worth a shot the only thing that lured in was this giant mysterious planet in front of our face oh my gosh you're bigfoot being that i was the first one to discover you i get to name you yeah really of all the names you could come up with you name me bigfoot i don't even have feet well you are big at least you meet half of the criteria he's got a point but hey people have spent years trying to find you how do we even know you're real there's a good amount of evidence to prove i'm a real thing just listen many of the theories surrounding the existence of planet nine come from two caltech astronomers constantine bategan and michael brown whose 2016 paper described hints as to my existence within the paper they speak of something called ethnos it stands for extreme trans-neptunian objects or objects beyond neptune that still orbit our sun there are quite a few of these but for now let's focus on sedna sedna is a possible dwarf planet that is ridiculously far away from us and has a strange orbital path around the sun the orbit of sedna is so weird that it almost doesn't make sense experts are baffled how cedna could reach such a huge detached orbit without getting completely ejected from the solar system altogether that's when experts began to think maybe there's something out there keeping sedna on a leash more recently some other strange ethnos were discovered and these objects also had a strange path of orbit but something had to be causing it and the best explanation for these strange paths was a new planet planet nine although the planet has yet to be actually seen experts believe there's enough proof to know it's there and astronomers calculate that it should be possible to see it using existing telescopes one such telescope is the subaru telescope in hawaii's monokia observatory which is the best tool for picking out dim extremely distant objects lost in huge parts of the sky [Music] so there's the proof do you believe me now not exactly you see there are no pictures of you but there is one a bigfoot roberta show him oh no that's not a sorry wrong picture that's bigfoot it's not exactly what i imagined you can't even see his feet yeah you got a point but at least it's something yeah we know he's big and hairy we don't even know what you look like well i'll tell you what experts think no one is exactly sure what i look like but there are some theories one theory is that i'm not a planet at all but rather a small ancient primordial black hole but this is highly unlikely others suggest that i may be the rocky core of an ancient gas giant that was thrown out of the solar system during its earliest days but if i do exist i'll most likely be a very cold gas giant kind of like neptune so there you have it that's all the information i have yeah i was kind of hoping we'd get a really good look at you all we got was that picture of bigfoot i'm not even convinced that's bigfoot is there any chance you can clear that picture up a bit here let me try hey roberta can you clear up that picture of bigfoot a little bit i want to see what he
