you know this review is a little late to be completely honest but have a good reason that reason is because every time I recorded it something changed first I ended up testing on Windows 10 and I had some weird issues that is going to lead to another driver fix video I had some issues with Windows 10 and I ended up switching to Windows 11 as part of my troubleshooting well in the process of doing so I accidentally kind of locked my PC into Windows 11 with the downgrade process not really being worth my time also it gave a perfect opportunity for me to actually test Windows 11 and to make sure that the performance doesn't change then the second time I recorded this I tested my VR games as per my usual GP review and unfortunately well let's just say I changed headsets in the middle of that and now I have a valve index which is harder to run than the old headset that was on there which was a rift s so I had to redo that so let's just say I've had to do this a couple times now and yeah it's a little late to be reviewing the 6800 XT but if this is a GPU you are looking at specifically second hand on eBay or if you can somehow find it firsthand like a Micro Center or even a Best Buy well let's just say this is definitely one to look out for so without further Ado let's get right into it foreign [Music] and you are watching greater than Pi so the 6800 XT it's actually been my daily driver GPU right now in my gaming system for feels like six months somewhere around there and I've actually been loving it now the card we have today is the MSI gaming Trio 6800 XT this bad boy has three eight pin pcie connectors pcie 4.0 16 gigabytes of gddr6 and a triple slot triple wide three fan cooler that actually keeps things relatively under control our Max Junction temperature when benchmarking was somewhere around 92 degrees but when gaming it dropped to a more reasonable 70 degrees that being said you will want to have a little bit of additional cooling inside your case when dealing with this GPU as it will kick out a lot of hot air that will just stagnate around and this can cause problems for your other components that could just as easily overheat around it all of our benchmarks today are going to be on the exact same system it's all housed inside a Corsair 5000d and it's actually maxed out with a bunch of EK vardar fan the platform in question is an x570 motherboard with a ryzen 7 5800x we have 32 gigabytes of trident Z Neo memory running at 3600 Mega transfers a second loading all of our games is off of a Western Digital black two terabyte hard drive which is a sort of sshd hybrid we are loading our operating system off of an SSD as well we will be running both windows 11 and pop OS during these tests pop is up to date with its most recent version and this is going to be running exclusively off of an SSD and the cooler CPU we are running a 360 millimeter EK all-in-one liquid cooler and to power the entire thing we have a 1000 watt NZXT power supply but that's enough about the system let's actually talk about the numbers so VR this time was a bit different because well we've changed VR headsets now I have a valve index which means I now have the ability to run games at 144 frames per second as opposed to the 80 frames per second at the rift s required and I'm happy to say that this GPU took care of it pretty well running games like VR chat beat Sara Zenith Half-Life Alex and threaters pistol whip all went really really well all were able to hit 144 frames per second at Max settings pretty regularly the other one that really dipped a lot was VR chat and that's more optimization than it is anything else overall a great experience in VR and the synthetic benchmarks for VR actually do show a very similar result with our cyan room Benchmark being a 14438 our cyan room Benchmark being a 19690 and our Blue Room Benchmark being a 5630 so you can confidently say that you'll be able to run something like a valve index quite easily speaking of benchmarks let's talk about our 3D Mark benchmarks we actually have a new 3dmark Benchmark that we get to throw into the mix here we've got three Mark Speedway which seems to be the hardest one to run yet which comes at a 3543 Port Royal came to a 9709 Times by came to a 20 369 and fire strike coming at a 55 151. now these are the graphic scores I did not include the CPU score because we're not testing this as a whole system we're only checking for graphic power here for unigen heaven we got a 6940 and for superposition we got a 10 848. all right let's go ahead and start with the Borderlands Series games we actually have both tiny teams Wonderland and Borderlands 3 in here since they're the same engine now you'll find something very interesting about Tiny Tina's Wonderland actually that's a higher frames per second on average than Borderlands 3. in fact Ultra 1440p lands us around 130 frames per second if you want to turn on FSR and switch it to the balanced mode which still looks pretty dang good you're going to net around 172 almost 173 frames per second on average as compared to Borderlands 3 which doesn't have FSR built into it which will run around 105 frames per second or if you want to enable Cas which is a feature that can be turned on you can get it to around 111 frames per second this is actually nearly identical to dropping it down to 1080p by the way so CIS does actually improve the quality as compared to running it at 1080p if you're trying to hit 1440p on Linux we actually see on average slightly better performance might just be something with this title and windows but on Linux pop OS we were able to run in at 1440p at its highest settings for 106 frames per second which is almost parody to Windows but turning it on to Cas actually ran us at 132 frames per second in which the 1080p numbers do actually mirror which is a very interesting showing for Linux here we did also test our 6700 XT in both Linux and windows just to add some numbers for comparison and we were able to get 85 and 62 frames per second respectively at 1440p so for some reason it's just the 6800 XT and Linux that had this unusual showing cyberpunk 2077 is a good game for us to test because it has a lot of features including Ray tracing FSR 2.0 it has dlss so it's a really good game to kind of meld together all of the testing methodologies and well with ultra Ray tracing we're seeing a nice cinematic 49.18 which isn't great but you just turn off Ray tracing and you can get up to 106 frames per second with FSR enabled does run closer to 88 frames per second on Ultra without FSR but if you enable able FSR Auto which is my preferred way to play you get a nice 121 frames per second 1080p really doesn't save you very much from the dreaded Ray tracing will get you close pretty close to 60 frames per second though and of course if you wanted to just run it on Ultra you can actually hit that nice crisp 144 frames per second now if you are running on Linux you'll actually see pretty similar performance across the board Ultra FSR Auto does 125 frames per second which is only a small dip from the windows numbers of course the 6700 XT will still be with 80 frames per second and 55 frames per second depending on the operating system that you want to use do maternal though represents our absolutely perfectly optimized game and because of that well we've got numbers that are rather high if you want to run at 1440p Ultra nightmare you can get 352 frames per second on average and 407 frames per second at 1080p running it on pop OS will set you very similar results with 330 frames per second on average and 380 frames per second on average and even if you wanted to step down to a 6700 XT you could actually still run this game at above 144 frames per second at 1440p in fact it runs at 230 frames per second does take a bit more of a hit on Linux for some reason but that only drops you down to a measly 120 frames per second now a favorite of mine PSO2 new genesis so we decided to change up our testing for this one because it's very difficult to test this game there are four regions in the game at the moment and between Elio retem and oh God coveris cavaris and the new one that I haven't actually played yet shame on me here but point is there are four different regions with very different demands when it comes to your GPU and your CPU and we actually have a weird bottleneck that we are still occurring in this game specifically in the a Leo region so when you're in the a Leo region there's a lot of grass and trees fauna Wildlife everywhere and no matter what we did Ultra would not go above 100 frames per second doing FSR Ultra quality only took us to 105 and adding in just quality only took us to 115 frames per second 1080p was around 102 frames per second which drops us below FSR quality despite it taking a severe hit in quality now interestingly enough if you go to the retem region which is a desert area with less things to load in you can get around 130 frames per second with the FSR Ultra quality Ultra has 120 and Ultra with just quality FSR is 140 and 1080p goes up to 155 frames per second very weird game you could easily run it above 100 frames per second on Ultra consistently but it might be a game where a faster CPU is warranted for the actual processing of the game since it only runs on around like two to four cores if I'm not mistaken now we do have a nice big game breakdown for you guys right here which includes games like Forza Horizon 5 which generally speaking doesn't run below 120 frames per second Witcher which is actually the updated version in here actually we got Witcher Ultra Ray tracing which was a cinematic 33 frames per second turning it off immediately boosts the game up to 130 frames per second though as of this GPU handle 1440p con Stant frame per second most of the time and if you're willing to Tinker with quality settings FSR or well even just turning it down to 1080p you can easily get it to 144 frames per second rather easily on average it seems that FSR in its quality state is about a boost of 10 frames per second and on its balance State up to 20 frames per second but we're going to be doing a much deeper dive on FSR 2.0 coming up as it's rapidly changing my perspective on FSR in general but here's where things are a little weird this GPU is actually very impressive and at the price that you can currently buy it at which is around 450 to like 550 dollars currently when you look at the cost of a new Nvidia GPU that has the exact same performance you're going to be looking at seven to eight hundred dollars and well realistically the videos eating their own tail a little bit because they have their newest GPU which also is supposed to be around 800 so points is the GPU Market's a little weird right now but if you can get this one second hand or even first hand I do recommend picking it up hope temperature ended up being a not an issue and I'm really surprised about that and this is a good tinkering GPU that being said there is a downside that I unfortunately ran into and I've run into it now twice with the same Manufacturing website requires you to use their software for RGB control and right now this thing is going rainbow because their RGB control keeps crashing not only does it keep crashing but it crashes on the acceptance screen it crashes when it's open and the one time I actually got everything working right after I restarted it it completely like disabled itself again so MSI I really wish that you guys would do some work on getting Mystic light actually working properly again it used to work perfectly but you switched it to a Windows app out of nowhere instead of an application and now it doesn't work now I did mention that there also was some interesting discrepancies in performance and there does seem to be something weird going on with this GPU and I'm unsure what's causing it the GPU can actually fluctuate in performance quite a lot depending on the day and what settings are enabled now turning on rage mode seems to fix most of them but not having smart Access Memory can easily take away another 10 to 20 frames per second depending on the situation that being said amd's software does make it easy for you to toggle smart access memory on and off after you've done the steps in your bios to make it enabled we will be doing a video in a little bit so that is actually going to be how to gain more performance in a GPU like this when you have an AMD system with both a CPU and GPU that are in sync the one thing that this GPU does not have going forth though is its raytrace performance it's very much a first generation product and I'm pretty sure that that has been said over and over again can do it any cases where the ray tracing implementation is done in a way that is not done in a biased manner using the tools that Nvidia created it works perfectly Forza Horizon 5 is a game that can easily sit around 120 to 140 frames per second despite having a ray tracing implementation now Microsoft did have a hand in making that game they may have done something to make sure that AMD gpus weren't as negatively affected by the inclusion of Ray Trace that or they're using some other form of Ray tracing that isn't real time and can be done rasterized overall I'm very happy with my purchase and despite me getting it at its MSRP and it being much cheaper now I've actually really enjoyed the GPU in general so if you have an option to pick it up I would recommend doing so particularly while we wait for other gpus from this current generation to actually release I think overall the biggest disappointment of this generation is the fact that because of scalpers this amazing GPU was out of everybody's hands for almost a whole year and looking back that is probably the biggest disappointment here but that's where we're gonna end today guys thank you so much for watching if you enjoyed watching this video give it a like maybe comment subscribe even because we've got more GPU content coming soon I'm going to be getting a hold of a 7900 XTX at some point this year and I don't know what PC it's going to get shoved into but uh I did unbox a really cute case recently that might end up having that GPU in it depending on the situation but that's enough for that I will see you in the next video Wolfie out [Music] [Music]
