[Music] hi guys i would like to tell you about my overall impressions from different neighborhoods in guatemala city and also what i think about the safety in that city because a lot of people ask me on the radio is it safe to travel is it safe to walk around the city there and in terms of safety there are two aspects of that first is covet 19 obviously and second is crime in terms of code 19 people seem to follow all the safety measures although there is a high rate of cases in guatemala people wear masks everywhere they give you sanitizer on the entrance to every store or every cafe but stores in cafes and restaurants are open so you can visit them at any time with no limitations you just have to wear masks everywhere and in terms of crying i didn't encounter crying myself but i would say that uh central areas in the city are not they don't feel very dangerous uh so those are zona ones on a four zone on 14 which is near the airport and zona 10 part of the netherlands they are the main areas which you want to visit they have the most of the places you would like to see like a historic architecture walk fast or something like that in parks and you don't need to visit all the other areas on the outskirts of the city which are usually um referred to as the most dangerous in the city where you can meet gangster and so on so if you stick to the central areas of the city it's pretty safe but you can also refer to department of state rating system of safety for each country and they have four levels of safety first is the safest one the first one is the most dangerous one and they rate guatemala is level two due to crime and level four due to call it 19 because obviously they because they have a lot of cases right now and in terms of crime they are they rated as exercise extreme caution which means that you can travel but you should keep aware of your surroundings and so on i would say that my favorite neighborhood was arizona 14 which is near the airport although i stayed in zona one uh which is historic center zone thunder 14 uh seemed to me very uh interesting they had a lot of uh cool cafes and uh all the streets looked like uh look like you would wanna work on them even at the night and you should not think that it is uh very noisy near the airport it is actually noisy everywhere so i stayed at zone 1 which is uh relatively far from the airport but airplanes come to the airport port from the north part of the city so they are already pretty low even in the zona one which is uh the farthest from the airport you can also visit the so-called neighborhood kayala ciudad kayala it is a new upscale area which was fully rebuilt in a single consistent design they have a lot of very expensive restaurants shops and so on uh locals uh tend to speak about it as it was built on top of natural resorts so uh they say that uh owners of this area they uh purchased the right to build their uh via some corruption schemes i don't know and uh they built and built it on top of natural resorts and um that area doesn't even have police they have a private security guards and um yeah it is very different also locals refer to it as escape guatemala because it is so different from the rest of the city i would not say that it is cool to live there because it is quite far away for from the rest of the city but it is nice to visit because they have pretty nice catfish there it takes about 20 minutes ride on taxi to get there from this city center [Music] zona1 which is also called as centro historico it is historic center of guatemala city where you can find lots of old architecture and important sites like national palace national library theaters and so on i lived there and it felt pretty safe to walk through but you can often find lots of harmless people laying on the streets which is not cool in terms of entertainment this neighborhood is not really developed but you can find a few bars here and there and they all look pretty nice but it is mainly should be visited just to see like historic sites and museums [Music] [Music] zona 4 i would call this neighborhood as a hipster island because you can find lots of fancy cafes and bars and coffee houses and so on streets there are tiny and there have this colorful design which looks really nice you can also see a lot of modern offices and apartment buildings in the modern modern design there [Music] uh i would like to mention separately coffee district which is a very nice coffee house i would say it is the best in that area they also have very relaxed and very beautiful design inside and they are located inside a separate area a two-story area that has other cafes and bars which also should be visited if you want to just grab a cocktail and have a good time there [Music] uh [Music] uh [Music] uh [Music] oh [Music] you [Music] zona 10 and 14 are the next on my list and i would say that all the international hotel chains are located in zona 10 and you can find lots of bars and cafes in there but they mostly looked like they are oriented on one time tourists and they didn't seem like a quality place to have a good time so i would recommend to go to zana ford which is not that far away from all the hotels if you stare there you can also find lots of high quality malls especially in zone 14 with modern shops uh tech shops and stuff so if you are desperately in need of some organic stuff and so on you can walk there and drive there with an uber and get this stuff in one of the fancy [Music] malls [Music] oh [Music] i would like specifically to mention elle inheritor coffee shop which is located in zone 14 to my impression it was the best coffee shop i visited in guatemala city they have their self-roasting machine they brew me a very very nice flat wide and they also have a very interesting design so tables are covered in coffee beans and they also have very friendly stuff and i would say that friendly staff is actually a usual situation for guatemala city but this place impressed me the most they also have another terrace with a outside view where you can also enjoy their coffee so this place has pretty much big area and if you go to guatemala city i would say it is the first place to visit in the city [Music] oh [Music] so [Music] oh [Music] and the last one is ciudad kayala which as i said is a newly built neighborhood which is on outskirts of the city you can drive there on uber it takes like 20 minutes to get there you can find lots of expensive shops restaurants apartment buildings all in the same consistent design also the place which i visited the most there is family bus cafe uh they have very tasty coffee and uh even bought some beans in there they have a huge space so you can comfortably sit there with a laptop because you have plenty of space there and you don't occupy uh the last table with your laptop if you want to learn more about that neighborhood you can watch my other video which i should specifically about that neighborhood yeah it is nice to walk there sometimes but it doesn't look like guatemala at all it has all this modern i would say general latin america design in fancy style okay so these are four areas i would like to recommend uh to explore if you visit guatemala city and as a final word i would like to add that you should not uh make an expectation from what you read on the internet about the city because oftentimes it is uh much different from what you see i saw that people tend to describe guaramala city on the internet as a place not worth visiting because it has nothing to see and so on but um as i lived there for four months i don't regret anything uh i saw lots of interesting architecture i saw lots of uh interesting people you can actually find very very high quality bars and cafes which i love so yeah thank you for your attention and i see you in the next one you
