Antigua Guatemala city tour | What Antigua looks like in 2021

[Music] hi guys i'm in antigua guatemala a small town located near guatemala city where i state for last month and we drove here on uber it took us like one hour to get here this is a tiny cozy town it is located between the mountains and it has lots of lots of old architecture so it was very beautiful to walk here [Music] this town is also a very popular tourist destination so it has lots of modern cafes and coffee shops and i'll probably show you the coffee shops which i enjoy here the most because the city has a very impressive coffee scene and today i would like to show you the city itself because last time i showed you the place where i stayed if you haven't seen it i'll link the video up on the screen and yeah let's see how this city looks like [Music] the city itself is very small i think it takes like 15 to 20 minutes to walk through from one side to the other [Music] do antigua guatemala was once a capital of kingdom of guatemala and what i didn't know is that kindergarten guatemala actually included the whole territory of the modern central america so states like belize honduras and so on they were the part of kingdom of guatemala and also what i didn't know is that antigua is actually translated from spanish to english as ancient or old so the city is called old guatemala before that i thought that antigua is like a name of their city and guatemala is like a name of the states so it's like houston texas but forgiving my ignorance it is actually translated as ancient guatemala [Music] everyone here is wearing a face mask by the way and i don't see what the point of wearing masks outside to be honest but i have to obey the rules in 1700 there was a series of very heavy earthquakes so they considered of moving the capital city to guatemala city several times and finally in the late 1700s they did it and so guatemala city is the capital to these days antigua guatemala is actually an official unesco world heritage site and i can see for myself why it looks very gorgeous the city is just amazing i recently had a thought that antigua guatemala is like a valley of central america because it has this relaxed vibe and it has lots of hipster cafes and coffee shops and lots of motorbikes and lots of beautiful nature surrounding the city i read on the internet that the city has pretty large retirement community so lots of people from europe and u.s come here for retirement [Music] i have to find streets where to speak on the camera because most of the streets are very noisy because of lots of old cars and motorbikes which are seen there last days and the main highlight of the city is actually a viewing point on top of the hill behind me it has perfect view on the city and on the volcano on the other side of the city but today the volcano is hidden so i'll show you the next day when the volcano will be visible from that point [Music] now [Music] so [Music] [Applause] foreign foreign today is a rare opportunity to see a volcano which appeared between the clouds so what i'm going to do now is i'm going to climb up the hill which is next to the city and show you the view in the city and the volcano which is behind that city it is very beautiful view it is the beginning of the rainy season right now so it was almost always hidden between the clouds especially for the last week a couple of days ago it appeared from the class right in the middle of the day and i was almost going to go and shoot it for the vlog but just in 10 minutes it disappeared again okay so [Music] uh [Music] [Music] look at this view guys it is so amazing and you can see that the actual city is very small so right behind the hill is one side of the city and right up there is the other and it takes like 15 or maybe 20 minutes to go from one side to the other and our home is right right here yeah so it took us like 15 minutes to get here from our house [Music] as you can see it is actually very popular tourist spot and here are some kind of a garden and there is a cross a monument um and you can see that right in the middle there are no trees you probably don't see it but there are a lot of stumps right here so lots of trees were cut to allow obviously for this perfect view on the city and i think it is a great point to end the video so let me know what you think about this video in the comments uh next video will be probably about the coffee shops because this city has lots of very very beautiful cafes and thank you guys for watching and i'll see you in the next video bye put the trash in its place
