INSANE OVERNIGHTER on an ISLAND in Japan

here we're going to go on a smaller boat and then go hop onto a rock um and it was a little bit rough out on the way over so we're hoping we can get onto the rock we'll see we'll find out um we should be okay though we got the captain with us and he says should be no problem look at this water just inside this Harbor it's beautiful oh man I'm so stoked stick around this is going to be a good one okay guys we have ausa from fishing gang cameraman and we have the captain for today and tomorrow he's going to drop us off on a rock hopefully and this is all our stuff that we got to take with us and get onto the Rock and hopefully stay there overnight [Music] okay guys we're trying to figure out where we can get onto this rock here it's a bit surgy it's going to be difficult [Music] okay so I don't think that first spot is going to work so we're going to try a different [Music] spot we're trying to get on this one this one's also a little surgy as well this one's okay may be doable but uh the fishing spot is not as good since this one is you know kind of blocking the open ocean so the captain's saying the wind is going to change tomorrow as well so there is a chance that if we go on now we might not be able to get off tomorrow uh it's just going to be I don't know it's just might be too impossible to pick us up and uh the day after that it's supposed to rain so we'll definitely want to get off by tomorrow okay guys we made a run about 20 minutes uh onto a different Island to see if it's any better and I think it's looking a little bit better okay okay back okay okay back anyway so we just got to I think I'll toss it one by one okay might be easier nice catch you're going to wear a spike put my spikes on my ice cleats oh my gosh it's so spiky this is necessary for here we go Safety First all right I'm clipped in okay nothing yet I swapped out to the chieftain I really like this color got one on this in s oh guys it's noon it's lunchtime I got some Oni I always look forward to buying Oni so much of it when I come back to Japan every time and this is actually uh my first time in Okinawa in 4 and 1/2 years that's the last time I came back and I did a collab with isusa back then caught some uh mahi mahi from Shore that was amazing um and did yeah did a couple other things too on the boat and I think this one is going to be even more epic m I love the E one this is on let's check it out nice a c nice yeah first fish oh on The Jig nice perfect perfect tpol we got our Live Well keep them fresh perfect nice Joba woo I was just switching over to very light tackle see uh if we could produce I was going to try to get you know something for us to eat but there you go this a got one so that's pretty good let's see if I can get anything on this oh that's very light W I just I got another one but bigger oh let's go check this out hey that one looks cool I think that's a coral Coral trout W wo wo wo wo nice size that's a good one that's nice size oh po that's nice one thank you got dinner okay oh yeah okay oh nice all right try The Jig oh this one is too light heavy there Sean fish off a little guy I think oh yeah let's go got a fish what is it what is it oh it looks red oh big wave coming let's see bring him up with the wave oh shoot there we go oh it's a freaking trigger fish trigger fish oh my gosh nice look at this guy holy cow nice hooking yeah perfect perfect hook set oh perfect right on the lip I can't believe I hooked them cook no don't throw this one I'll throw this one back all right first fish for me little trigger fish cool looking guy see you later nice yeah on the board well guys it's a little slow at the moment so uh while we're waiting for the tide to change uh I'm going to start prepping our dinner uh cuz we already have the fish anyways so might as well we got some downtime uh because later on you know during sunset and after the tide changes uh it's going to be we're going to be busy so I'm just going to get it started all right so we brought a cooler inside the cooler wait hold on no way why does everything in Japan open both ways like the refrigerators at homes they open both directions so do the coolers so cool okay well we got some beers that's for later I got some veggies and I'm going to prep that now this a goii nice and I just asked ausa if he likes Goya which is bitter melon in hinala bitter melon is very popular like one of the main uh main vegetables here in okaa and uh I love it too it's very bitter but it's delicious deliciously bitter so for this guy you just cut it long waists like this and then you basically scoop out the inside it's got a bunch of seeds in it and it's like a piff uh so you scoop that scoop that out and uh sauté the rest you slice it up like a bell pepper you can eat it raw like this too and it's uh it's actually not that bitter at least this one I'll cut it slightly thick maybe like a/ inch I have some inoi mush rooms this I already prepped I I cut the bottom off and then I wrapped a piece of paper with just a little slight dampness and this next one this is a Lotus rout looks like that you guys are probably familiar with this it's really good and this I'll slice up into about qu inch sizes and uh you guys know Nappa cabbage and then I have a little piece of ginger now I have these green onion what I'm going to do is cut it right here slice this small and this white part just going to cut the tip off cut it into half like that that's all the ingredients I have to prep I think that's about it besides the fish I was thinking I want to keep it fresh but I have this cooler and there's space in there for the filets so I can slice it up I think the fish heard me because started going crazy trying to get out of the typol kind of beached himself look how pretty this fish is come on buddy C going take him out of his misery thank you buddy thank you so much we going to bleed him out in this tide pool here wow so pretty CH I like the tail yeah tail is cool it's long that's why nagu me like a long tail yeah yeah me means go long tail go okay let's filet this guy first I'm going to take his head off there you go I'm going to save his head for the gshi stock make a hole there pop your knife through and then you just run it down the spine cutting all the uh rib cage bones like that now you can cut the tail off got nice fill there with the rib cage on so we'll still take that off this knife is called a deba deba is what uh the Japanese people use to filet that's a our filet knife which is completely opposite from the Western filet knife because this has the thickest backbone out of any knife it is super thick and durable um but that this is what we use I normally go for a chef knife to filet fish but deba is always a good one there you go nice clean filet take the pin bones out okay I think I'm going to start casting again uh fish is pretty much ready I just have to slice it and depl plate it I was hoping to find some palm trees to make like the plates and stuff all the all the knowledge that I learned in the in Samoa and new way uh just to you you know make the plates that's what I wanted to do but no palm trees around here on the other side there's quite a bit of trees but it's all like small Bush um yeah nothing I can use as plates but that's all right um yeah I'll just get back to fishing for a freaking lure come on what was that what was that it freaking just jumped right next to my lure looked like it Tred to attack it we're kind of chilling at the moment we're waiting for this current to pick up which is starting right now actually you can start seeing that water move to the left earlier it was moving to the right now during incoming it goes this way during outgoing it goes that way so once this really starts picking up that's when the GTS and all the fish all the activity all the bait fish get pushed out of the Bay right here and then in through between this small Channel and GTS hopefully will cruising be cruising around okay guys guys I think this is a good time to start casting we'll give it a shot let's do this okay need my safety just in case I hook a big one tries to pull me in got all right all right we're clipped in let's do this here comes a big wave a little big all right we're safe I got to keep looking towards my left making sure I don't get taken out by a huge swell all right come on oh oh fish there's a fish I thought I saw a fish right below my lure didn't really go for it but I thought I saw a big silver thing there's this sea turtle that just keeps swimming back and forth right in front of me it's right there surfacing now you can tell that it's starting to flow a bit more cuz you can see well I don't know if you can see on the GoPro but the water is starting to get bit choppier the wind is going this way and the tide and current going this way so it makes a bit more of a chop that's how you can kind of tell um that it's flowing flowing that way if you have the wind going this way and the current going this way at the same time it'll actually look a bit more flat but when the wind and current is going the opposite direction it's actually doing going this way it creates that Chop on the water oh that was a good cast when that lure just goes straight so a good cast cuts through the wind nothing yet though nothing yet I think uh think I need a little water stay hydrated no waves coming yep we moved all our stuff up here cuz TI's going to be coming up now hard time yeah usually GT is always hard time look at the cameraman got a nice mattress I'm going to sleep you're going to sleep now [Music] oh this would be a nice spot we'll cook over here later on okay guys okay this is what we're talking about this current is ripping now watch I'm going to cast my flu that way and then by the time I'll probably get it back it's going to be kind of over to the left yeah look how it's just drifting left probably can't tell but see instead of coming back here it came back over here now it's flowing this is current ripping come on GT and it's just a little bit before Sunset probably still hour and a half before sunset oh fish oh GT GT [Music] GT oh fish holy crap they hit it like crazy I tried to let him eat it but big one too that was was massive dude what the heck just missed it just right here make sure they guy make sure they goty holy crap guys what did we just say oh my God oh my gosh that was crazy that was crazy oh I can't believe it didn't hook up shoot I got a little wind knot far out that was such an aggressive aggressive take an almost take it just missed that was my chance guys that was my chance all right it's getting a little sketchy at this spot some big swells coming in so we're going to get the safety he didn't tug it at all it just oh that was big one I'm going to try to cast from back here um I was standing right there if I hook one though I do have to run out I wouldn't be able to fight it from here see what we can do W yeah that was a good decision to come over here that one was gnarly okay we're going to switch it up we got this OTL try it out these are brand new I bought them just before I left uh New Zealand nice oh these casts pretty good oh wow that's a bomb I felt something but I just got caught on myself where the lure got caught on it itself I just to let me borrow this glove and then I just noticed it says from born till bone that's a good slogan come on fish we've been casting non-stop it is almost Sunset just about but uh nothing else since and I'm getting hungry man but uh this is our chance here so we're going to just be cooking in the dark that's all right we got some flashlight so let's get back to the MOSI to finish it off for the evening it's not a good time to get soaking wet I got freaking blasted with the wave it's going to be a cold night if I get too too wet it's not very hot here it's actually like very uh cool pretty cool temperatures well the sun has set and it's getting pretty dark now but uh good thing about that is that GT like to feed in low light so you never know if could happen right now too you just never know it's hard to stop fishing cuz you just never know oh man that was a tough day oh had one strike oh there's hope though there's hope we're going to get up early tomorrow morning uh I was going to cook tonight but I think we're all pretty beat and uh I also wanted to take some nice photos of the um of the dish for the thumbnail and stuff and I can can't do that in the dark so I think I'll just we're going to have it for lunch tomorrow instead as a you know a hurrah for the end of the uh this trip after this fishing trip uh my sister and my dad are coming over from kagoshima and we're going to meet up with them and hopefully we get to do some fishing the weather's uh might be iffy but we might have a window but for now we have plenty of onig left so we have to eat those anyways or otherwise they'll likely go bad and uh yeah so we'll have those for dinner tonight I'm starving though all right it's time for beer oh yeah this is the Okinawa beer yes oh the best San Francisco oh that's good ah all right guys we are sleeping under the stars tonight uh we just woke up about 5:00 a.m. and uh going to make some breakfast got Nat and bread and some boiled eggs got my kelp chili crisp there as well and just going to make a Nat egg Sund this is not beer I put hot water in here I don't I didn't bring any tea or coffee but got the hot water those to volume what is it guys last night was actually so cold I just slipped in what I have and the wind was crazy I was not expecting it to be that cold cuz we're in okina and then it said like the low was going to be like 60° I was like oh no problem we've been sleeping in the van and around 45° lately and been kind of used to that kind of cold but man sleeping out here on the rock with about 20 5 mph wind that took the heat right out of me and actually during the night I woke up around 1:30 and then I made some hot water and I filled the water bottle with the hot water and put it inside my sweater cuz I was like Chang man would be pretty embarrassing to get hypothermia in Oka this is really freaking good okay guys not much light out yet but uh we're going to give it a go here we go first cast going with the popper scary stuff right here current is really fast just like yesterday when we were when I had that strike this is scary scary stuff guys let me show you uh the popper I'm using I'm going with the malossi popper this thing is beautiful this is actually my first time using it if you can tell it's brand spanking new okay switch it up once again pretty nice looking lure first time using this one too let's give it a go I like standing right here okay I'm back to the one that I actually got that strike on malosi uh Chieftain big turtle right there fish fish fish on fish on big guy they got it so big oh my God oh my God far out oh my God that's too big this too big come on holy oh my God oh my God so big oh my God oh my God oh my God please please budge far out dude this guy is not going anywhere oh he's taking so much line no no no no no no no no this is too big oh my gosh Jesus oh how is it oh teamw workk teamwork te got to do a teamw workk dude this freaking fish is so big I can't my hands are cramped up so hard bro I need water okay it's so big it doesn't come in yeah I can't bring it in quiet quiet quiet quiet GT come Monster GT moner GT monster it's been 9 and 1/2 minutes that's a long fight for GT thinks it's [Applause] GT so freaking strong all right all right here we go oh my God what a wake up what a freaking wake up okay I don't couldn't even grip the water bottle it was the same [Applause] lure nice nice oh made GT oh GT oh my God that thing is huge huge it's huge it's huge oh my God I didn't see it oh my gosh H that's huge man you oh my gosh gu that's huge guy tug team TG team okay perfect let's go to the right we're going to land him over here ohly hell oh shoot he just went around this rock here oh shoot hope we got to hope he swims out of there he's trying to free spool it to try to swim it out he's swimming straight into these rocks right here it's very dangerous if he not above the rocks okay he's swimming oh okay okay he's good he's out he's out yes yes yes [Applause] you oh my God it's so massive oh we're around the rock here wrapped around the Rock oh my gosh he's around the Rock Dam I thought we had him so line is a little damag now so we got to take it easy it's been a 15 and 1/2 minute fight thus far oh man we're stuck in the rock yeah y y I think that rock right there you can see right here or one of those Yeah by oh oh he's out oh my gosh did he come out is he out [Music] oh that was a long fight oh it was so close we saw it [Laughter] oh my God that was insane right when I switched to that same exact lure that I got the bite on yesterday freaking hit it and that thing hit it like a freight train and just took off and it was able to take off so much cuz it caught the current that current as you seen is really fast and as soon as catches the current it just I couldn't bring it back from there and it was out like 100 yards it was gone and I was like there's no way I could bring this back in right now and I'm already I was already winded so I tagged in ausa and he was able to manage to bring it all the way up and we saw it we saw we 100% confirm to you that it was a GT and I just said saying that's over 30 kilos easily so that's uh like 70 lb that's a 70 lb fish and yeah there's no way I could have brought that in my by myself I I wanted to do it but I was like no I I cannot just physically cannot do it so uh and we had it close man and it got wrapped up on the right side and then he was able to free it and he was like all right and he he said oh I got it now as soon as you know he he that crossed his mind the GT turned caught the current again and then wrapped around that rock with that little bit of bow in the line and then that the line was just caught in the Rock and couldn't get free that was a tough break but that's one of the reasons why I love GT fishing this stuff is not easy somebody uh explained to me how GT fishing it's kind of like a UFC fight you got to beat up the fish before it can beat you up so it was two against one and we still got our butts kicked but I'm so happy that was so fun so fun oh that was insane that reel when that fish was taken off it was getting so hot but uh I mean it stood up kind of barely but that was crazy well I got to reti my leader I don't even know if even if I hook another one I don't know how much I can fight it my groin hurts so bad right where the rod sits it hurts so bad right before I came on this strip I went to a tackle shop and I was holding one of these like little gimbals that you put put on the end um it's not a gimbal but it's kind of like this cushion thing that's shaped like a light bulb and and um I was like looking at it I was about to buy it and I was like I don't need it I should have bought it oh I'm just really happy that I got to see the fish you know we have a definite conclusion that it was a GT and it was massive it would have been like literally like it would have just been ridiculous what a fish what a fish dude this um this style of fishing although like I'm pretty new to it I've only done it you know been on a few trips going for GTS uh maybe four trips actually it's really fun and addicting I want to get the uh boys back in the bay Adam and Nick and nay to come out and do one of these GT fishing I think it would be so much fun it's so different than anything else man I swear this type of fishing it's not the same people always leave comments on my past GT videos that you got to fight it and you got to let him run and all this stuff no no no no no that's completely wrong landbased GT if you let him run you're you're it's over it's already over you really have to try to beat it up I mean that one ran regardless but that was a long GT5 20 minutes is a long one like I said like a UFC fight you got to beat it up before it beats you up oh oh that was so fun though uh okay I'm going to retie and um it's still early so still early there's another chance Aus is um trying now so uh he's going to yeah he's hopefully he hooks up man hopefully hooks up so we can lift one up and show you guys I don't know I just still can't even though we didn't land it like I can't stop smiling cuz of how fun and intense that was I was just sitting here reing I'm glad all my knots held up all my gear held up FG knot this is 80 lb braid going to 200 lb liter uh about 10 ft of uh liter and yeah all everything held up so I was pretty happy with that and I have here a this swivel is like also rated 200 lb or 250 or something like that and then same with the uh the split ring as well and now I'm trying to decide which lure to use so I got it on the bigger size of this same color but a little bit bigger but this is a little small to cast with the setup I can go with a similar color pattern but a different shape different style but I do like this kind of the colors this one's the blue and white I really like that I don't know this one it I caught many fish on the one I just hooked uh um that's the same one that I caught the fish in uh Samoa as well this I really like this hard line right here of blue and white the fish seem to like it too so this one's like a green green and white so it's pretty similar might go with this one yeah I think I will go with this one I also have the otls I pretty much thrown everything I got all actually except for I haven't thrown one of the one of the other ones but I have this one as well so the split ring that just goes right onto the lure so if you want to switch out you can just switch out with the split ring and not have to retie much quicker this way and you don't lose any leader line there you go and the reason why you need a 200 lb ler it's super heavy you see how Rocky this is and we try to make it as long as possible so if it freas if it if the fish is fighting against us and if we have it high enough to where just the fluorocarbon that's in the Rock it's very um abrasion resistant so it'll hold up much better than the braid and the reason why we don't use all of this like you can't use all fluorocarbon or all mono cuz then you won't really be able to cast 200 lb mono can't cast that um so yeah we just use about 10 ft of this okay now we're back in it can we get another one am I even ready for another one current's still flowing pretty good Adusa has been hard at it while I've been resting a bit and uh retiring all right I'm off the light tackle for a little bit we're at the tide change it's high tide now when I did the Samoa trip last month with uh Johnny from L SE lures uh he gave me a bunch of his gave me a bunch of his lures and um he was like yeah you don't need to say anything about him I don't want your videos to seem like an ad or anything and um he's like I'm just happy if you use them I was like oh sweet man thank you so much and then I got to give him plug just cuz they they work so well man so beautifully crafted and these are like pieces of art just on their own you saw me throw a variety of them today and you saw the only thing that worked was the chieftain one of those those are my favorite I lost the one that I obviously lost the the one that I hooked them on but it was this one it's this style right here this is just the smaller version and uh honestly I don't mind plugging my friends you know they're amazing awesome awesome guys and uh they make you good stuff amazing lures so if you guys want fishing uh for now and I'm going to start cooking we're going to make that uh make the lunch and yeah let's get to it but first of all before we get started check out these shorts they look familiar to you at all they're kelp chili crisp shorts um they haven't been released yet uh but I think soon Barnacle is uh going to release them so yeah it's pretty cool so I did a lot of the prep yesterday so I don't have too much left to do got my fish here in the Ziploc was on ice overnight got my knife here I'll leave a link uh in the description for these as well okay and all we need to do is slice these we're going to do Shabu Shabu Style with this fish I'm going to leave the skin on because uh once we hit it with the hot water skin should be nice so we're basically cutting like nice kind of thick Sashimi slices maybe maybe regular thickness shimi what about this uh the office today huh this view is insane this Cliff side catch and cook GT fishing and hard to get better than is I'm so sad this is just a quick trip I kind of I I actually do want to live in Okinawa for a month or two that would be pretty sweet the beaches here are incredible on the other side of this literally a cliff that's a 30t cliff and uh yeah so I can't drop anything on the other side otherwise it's gone so the way to get the these professionally very nice looking Cuts you see how all of them have an edge so you go you slice down and then at the end you angle your knife down and follow that last uh last stroke you took so it's nice and straight got a perfect Edge to it and that's how you slice the shimi it's not that's not just it there's a little bit more to it as well but that's it for now I'm hoping the skin is not too chewy counting on it this is not even a Sashimi knife it just works as uh I mean all around the blade is pretty thin the tip like this this tip here is pretty thin so I wouldn't use it to fillet fish like you you wouldn't want to cut through bones with it you know um so I would I would avoid that but um for vegetable prep and all kinds of like stuff you use a GTO for just a chef knife you know there regular stuff uh it's perfect and you can use it for sushimi too obviously like I'm doing here oh I didn't even realize my GoPro was recording the whole time I was just going to surprise you guys but heck man I was thinking man I should have recorded it but I did sweet yeah bro yeah bro yeah that's what I'm talking abouto all right now I just need to make a little uh Dashi little boiled water and then we're good okay just boiling up some water now I'm going to add some d here this is AO Dashi which is a flying fish flying fish Dashi it's pretty good all right guys the dish is all finished uh we're going to have it like shab Shabu pick it up you dip it in the hot broth and then you eat it I have some ponu as well and I chopped up some ginger too we could throw some ginger in the Dashi and make it more flavorful too woo that's right that's why they call me Outdoor Chef don't you ever forget it m hey that this one is good all right let's eat okay guys what a what an adventure this trip has been oh so close so close it was so good um okay so let me tell you guys what we have here got some Nappa cabbage I think I already said it when I was prepping it but Nappa cabbage I got the inoi this is a Goya or bitter melon just dump it all in there and this is a Lotus root we'll just Chuck it all in and it'll cook oh P I did so shaba sh you just kind of cook it and then you just add keep adding stuff cooking it and then you take a piece of fish like this and it should cook fairly quickly so it just go like that and I mean this fish you can eat pretty raw too we just want to cook the skin here so there you go there we go that should be good little bit of uh ponu on there [Music] I'll put some ginger in there too flavor the broth oh here we go there gole okay guys well this it's so good uh we're going to get picked up in about an hour or so so
