in today's tutorial I'll be using Inkscape version 48 to show you how to create a vector style wineglass similar to what you see here and at any point in the tutorial you can look down at this bottom left portion of my screen to see what kind of clicks and keys I'm using so I'm gonna go ahead and open up a new document and get started okay so the first thing we'll do we'll open up our align and distribute menu by clicking that button on this drop down menu you want to choose last selected then we'll come up here to where it says edit objects colors gratings and Stroke we'll open that up and then we'll go to view make sure you have custom selected and then we'll go to zoom and we're gonna zoom in one two one and then we'll go to file document properties uncheck these two boxes and then close that out so the first thing we're gonna do is create an oval so come over here to this side of the tool bar that says create circles ellipses and arcs we're gonna click on that and we're gonna click and drag on the canvas to make a nice oval kind of like that now we're gonna turn that red and come over here to where it says opacity we'll slide the opacity in half and it will come back to our arrow and let's right-click this and go to duplicate and we'll turn that blue and take this bottom arrow right here and click and drag that up all the way up to about up to about there and then while holding ctrl on the keyboard let's click and drag this down so I'd say about right about there about a third of the way through that oval kind of like that and then we're to come over here to our magnifying glass click on that and we're gonna click and drag over this left intersection right here so we can see what we're doing and then we'll go back to our arrow and we're gonna hold ctrl and shift in the keyboard and grab this left arrow right here and click and drag this in so it's out to about right about there you want this blue oval I'll show you what I did here you want this blue oval sticking out over that red oval just a little bit in order for what we're going to do to take effect okay so once you've done that you press one on the keyboard to zoom back out and we'll right-click on this oval we'll duplicate it and then hold shift and click on the red oval and let's go to path difference and then path break apart now let's click off of the graphic to deselect everything and click on this top piece this top red piece of the oval and let's press Delete on the keyboard to get rid of that and then we'll click and drag over both of these we'll right click it and go to duplicate and go to path Union and we'll turn that black and we'll come up here to where it says lower selection to the bottom we'll click that and come over here to stroke paint click on that tab and we're going to click the blue button to turn that on and then come over to stroke style we're gonna give that a 20 point stroke and then hit enter and where it says join give that around to join by clicking this box right here and then we'll do path stroke the path path break apart and path Union okay so the next thing we'll do is we'll click on this red this red object right here and it will right click that and go to duplicate and we'll turn that green and while holding ctrl on the keyboard click and drag this over to the right a little bit just to about there just a little bit and then we'll click on this black object in the background we'll right click and go to duplicate and while holding ctrl on the keyboard let's click and drag this over here so it's about that far away from the green object and then while holding ctrl grab this arrow on the right and click and drag that out to about now to about there and then while holding shift in the keyboard we'll click on the green object and we'll go to path difference and what we'll do next is we're gonna click on this blue oval right here then we're gonna right click that and go to duplicate and we're gonna out set that we're gonna do that by pressing ctrl + 0 we're gonna do that 5 times so you hold ctrl and then press 0 5 times so there's 1 2 3 4 5 and then while holding shift click on that green object and let's go to path difference so we end up with something like that now the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna click on this red object and we're gonna raise this to the top by clicking this button right here that says raise selection to the top raise that to the top and then we'll right-click go to duplicate and we'll turn that blue for now now let's come over here to the Bezier pen and click on that and let's bring this right right about up here just on the outside of this black object right here we'll click and while holding ctrl on the keyboard drag this line straight across like this to the other side and then click and let go of control and hit enter on your keyboard and that's going to create a line so what we're gonna do now is we're going to take our magnifying glass we're gonna click on that and we're gonna click and drag over this line to zoom in on that now let's come up here to where it says edit pads by nodes we can click on that and on though I'd say the left third of this line just click and drag that line up to about there somewhere around here and when you can do now is you come over to this node on the right let's click on that it's gonna bring up these little handles right here so let's take this handle on the bottom and let's click and drag this down kind of like that see down to about there you want this line to have a nice dip going down from the edge of this blue object kind of like that and it'll take this one up top and we'll bring this up to about here we want a nice fluid curve going up and then going down kind of like that then we can go back to our arrow and let's go to path stroke the path and we can right-click this and go to duplicate and then we're gonna flip this horizontally by clicking this button right here and then while holding shift on your keyboard click on that blue object right there and let's go to path difference and then we'll go to path break apart and click off of the graphic to deselect everything now click the top half of this blue of this blue object right here and press Delete on your keyboard to get rid of that and then we're gonna take this line right here while holding ctrl on the keyboard we're gonna click and drag this down a little bit we want to bring this down to about let's say about there and then while holding shift click on the red object and let's go to path difference and then we'll go to path break apart and we'll click off of the graphic to deselect everything and then click on this top red object right here and press Delete on the keyboard to get rid of that now let's press the 1 key on the keyboard to zoom back out so we can see what we got here now let's click on this this blue object right here and let's come over to the opacity let's turn that all the way up and then we're gonna make this a shade of red something like this I'd say they're gonna click on this red piece behind it I'm gonna turn the opacity all the way up and we're gonna make that the same shade of red same shade of red but then come over to the fill tab and make sure you have the HSL tab selected and come down to the line that says L and we're gonna slide this over to the left to darken that a little bit we want that to be slightly darker than the object above it let's say about that much then let's take this green object right here click on that and let's raise this to the top by pressing that button and then we're going to click on this black object and then hold shift and click on the blue oval and come over to where it says well pasty and let's slide that all the way to the right and we're gonna turn that 10% gray so come down here to the colors and hover the cursor over it's gonna tell you what percentage of gray it is you're gonna find 10% great turn that 10% great now let's click off of the graph you could deselect everything and let's go back to this little oval in the middle and let's come over to the L row and let's slide this over to the left to darken that up a little bit okay this is a little too dark maybe maybe we'll do that okay so let's go over to the magnifying glass and click on that and click and drag over this oval so we can zoom in on that and let's go back to the arrow and then right-click this and go to duplicate and we'll turn that white and then we'll duplicate it again right-click duplicate and we'll turn that black and while holding ctrl grab this bottom arrow right here and let's click and drag this into about into about there and then hold shift and click on that white oval and let's go to path difference and then while holding shift click on that darker gray oval and with them both selected hold the ctrl key and let's drag this up to about right about there I'd say and then you can press 1 on the keyboard and zoom out and what we'll do now is we'll click on this green object and we're gonna turn this white and we'll give this we'll make the opacity on this lets try 50 we'll just type in just type in 50 here and hit enter and we end up with something like that now let's come over to create rectangles and squares we'll click on that now let's make a nice pretty thick oval rectangle going over the bottom here kind of like that alright what we're gonna do is we're gonna turn this blue and come up to this stroked paint tab and let's click the X button to turn that off and get that out of the way and then come up here to the arrow let's click on that and let's hold the shift key and click on this gray object in the background and let's Center that up on the vertical axis by clicking that button right there and that's gonna Center that up so what you do now is you can click off of the graphic to deselect everything and we're going to come over to the oval the create circles and you look is right here and we're gonna create an oval going kind of like this something like that let's turn that green and let's come over to the arrow and let's take this and let's move this down actually when I move this down to about there let's say right about there that's maybe a little too wide I'm gonna narrow that up a little bit you can just click and drag that arrow you want to make it about that narrow we're gonna bring this right here just to give you a reference point of what I did I made it so that the green is overlapping the blue and the gray right there and then down below it is going over the corner you don't want it outside of the corner like that you want it overlapping that corner right there all right press one the keyboard to zoom out and we want to do is I'm going to right click this and go to duplicate and I'm gonna hold ctrl and I'm gonna slide this over to the right to about the same position right about what about there I'm actually gonna take this and bring this in a little closer like that you could hold ctrl and click and drag this blue this blue section between these green shapes right here is going to be the the stem of the glass so you want it you want to make sure it's the right size you don't want it too thick then you don't want it too thin I'd say that thickness right there is pretty good and you can hold shift on the keyboard and click on that green oval so you have both of those ovals selected and then we'll go to path Union and then hold shift and click on that blue rectangle and let's Center that up on the vertical axis and then we'll go to path difference so we end up with something like that now what we could do now is we could hold shift and let's click on this light grey object in the background and let's go to path Union and then we'll take this dark grey oval right here click on that let's right click that and go to duplicate and let's click and drag this down to about right about there and let's hold ctrl and shift on the keyboard and let's grab this arrow and click and drag this and we want to make this a little bit smaller kind of like that right about there and what we could do now is we could right-click this and go to duplicate and press f7 on the keyboard to bring up the dropper tool and click on that grey area to make that the same color grey and then come over back over to the arrow over here and actually let's go to the magnifying glass and let's zoom in on this so we can see what we're doing we'll come back to the arrow and hold ctrl on the keyboard and click and drag this up a little bit kind of like that and then once you've done that just hold ctrl on the keyboard and grab this bottom arrow right here and let's bring that in a little bit so you end up with something like that and then you get press 1 on the keyboard to zoom back out and we can click and drag over this whole thing and we can group it together with this button right here that says group and then you could hold ctrl and shift in the keyboard and grab one of these arrows to shrink or enlarge it however you want and as you can see we have created our vector wine glass so if you have any questions just let me know and thank you for watching
