In search of a facetable gem stone (garnet).

hello everyone here we are on big Silver Creek up behind uh Harrison Lake I'm doing some gem Civic today to try to find myself a nice big Garnet one big enough that we can uh fast it so the first thing I'm doing is just uh get some material in my gym soon all the stuff that's way too big then I've got two different classifiers in here on top of the gemstone one taking out everything bigger than a quarter inch next taking out everything bigger than an eighth of an inch anything smaller than an eighth of an inch is falling down into the gem suit you gotta do that again it's not quite enough material this is where I hope to find a good job is in the quarter Plus we found a few already in the eighth plus and they're close but yeah not quite and then the eighth minus there's a lot for Gem Civics rocking back and forth pulsing in the water rotating it rocking back and forth pole seating back and forth and pulsating rotating rocking back and forth and pulsating I could already see this could be a good one lift it up and drain all the water out [Applause] okay here we go one two three and slip I knew that'd be a big one usually you see a little round spot in the middle of all the Heavies but I had so many Heavies in that one that it just sort of made a cake over the whole top those are all garnets and it's not just a little bit too that's an inch deep in garnet that's important we found in any of the other ones so hopefully the bigger stuff will have some good stuff in it okay here's the 1 8 plus stuff a really nice one in here would be good enough to use let's see see if this black ring around here those are all garnets most of them are a very black Garnet uh there's only a few that are Jimmy in there there's a beautiful Jimmy garnet and that's a good full 1 8 inch garnet so there's a few here a few real nice ones we could make small gemstones out of really I want the good ones in that next one quarter Plus here okay here's where we want the gem to be this is the everything between one quarter and one half inch [Applause] and what do I see I don't see a gemstone I see lots of garnets there's garnets in here but they're just black and brown garnets we want that translucent transparent red and I don't see one in this load oh back for another load Dan's found a good spot for garnets although it's very very far away I don't know why we don't move our equipment right here he's coming back right here okay here's the eighth plus again let's see what we find beautiful Stones it's really nice ones let's go over here there's so many Heavies here it's hard to just Center them all in one spot so that's why like here we got the pretty much this whole band right there is Heavies but there's some nice red stones in there I probably should have moved my whole operation down to the good hole rather than moving the good hole to my operation oh that's hard in the arms foreign well we had fun today gem Civic and we got a whole bucket full of uh 1 8 minus garnets it'll be great for my prospecting class at school to show kids what garnets are and show them how to gem sieve and whatnot but coming out with a facetable gemstone on today I don't think we did we got a whole lot of big ones that aren't really Jimmy nice and red but aren't really Gemmy nice big garnets and we have a whole lot of garnets that are between uh eighth and a quarter inch but not quite big enough to facet I might send a couple away and get a little tiny fasted Stones anyways just so we have them from our trip but not the big fashionable so we're looking for today though some of these are nice some of them are beautiful Little Gems well this is um big Silver Creek behind uh Harrison Lake it's at about the 34 kilometer Mark we're at right now um and it's a beautiful looking Spot Great spot to come and have a pleasant day with the family learn how to gems if lots of garnets here I don't think there's anything other than garnets but we have lots of garnets here something from three quarters of an inch down to microscopic Little Things well I brought the gems back and I'm using the light table right now let's fill up your car to the camera using the light table here to uh check them all out and separate out all the the stones um now kind of what I found is what I was expecting there's nothing really fastable in there the big ones are all fractured and dull and whatnot the little guys are just too small there's some beautiful ones in there but just too small so so my hunt for a festival Garnet continues I'll try to get some good pictures of these let's go in the sun they should be gorgeous well that was the day Jim sipping until the next one bye
