actually i was already working as a project manager in a company but i'd been stuck in the same position for a few years and seeing no growth prospects in the near future so i decided to look for a new job now here's the thing my mom is a ceo in a company that was passed down to her by her family she had always wanted me to join her company and then eventually replace her as ceo but i wanted to climb the ranks based on my merit and not through connections that's why i was working in a different company now that i was looking for a new job i decided to check out for vacancies in my mom's company there were some job openings so i decided to apply i wasn't going to let my mom know about it though i gave an interview and thankfully no one recognized me as a ceo's son a few days later i was informed that i'd been selected for the job i sighed in relief and started my preparation to work in a new company there was no chance that i would ever run into my mom because her office was situated in a different branch and as long as i wouldn't tell her she wasn't going to find out so i started working without any kind of worry but there was one slight problem the atmosphere in the new office made me a bit uncomfortable all my female colleagues always used to hover around me asking me personal questions and stuff i didn't want to make things awkward that's why i refused them politely but it seemed like they couldn't take a hint i would often come to work every morning to find gifts and notes placed on my desk i mean sure i was thankful for all the love and affection but things were starting to get uncomfortable for others too my male coworkers started ignoring me and maintained their distance i had no idea what was going on while i was still trying to find a solution to the problem a bigger problem came up in the form of my ex phoebe and i used to date when we were in college but eventually we started falling apart and then some things happened that caused us to break up it was an ugly breakup and both of us resented each other i mean at least phoebe did i'd moved on from that phase a long time ago the smirk on phoebe's face when she saw me at the office was terrifying to say the least she had just joined a new employee too and my luck couldn't be any worse than this i thought that you were working somewhere else she said didn't you say that no matter what you would never join your mom's phoebe please i cut her off before she could reveal anything in front of the others i pulled her to the side and almost begged her to keep her mouth shut no one here knows about my mom and my mom isn't even aware of this i told her please don't say anything or it will cause a huge problem she just laughed in response we'll see she said cryptically and left i got back to my seat to find the other female employees glaring at phoebe whoa what happened all of a sudden excuse me are you dating her one of them asked me directly um no i answered hesitantly the two of you seem pretty close she pointed out and that's none of your business i said as calmly as i could she left but i didn't miss the pointed glares that the others were shooting at me over the lunch break phoebe asked me to meet her outside the office building what's up i asked after spotting her in a corner she gave me an incredulous look are you really going to ask me that it's just my first day at work and your fan girls have already made my life miserable i frowned what do you mean she scoffed don't play dumb now all the female employees in this office are crazy after you they practically worship the ground you walk on i guess they got jealous to see you talking to me so irritating i'm sorry i quickly apologized i had no idea that they would i don't need your story she intervened just stay away from me from now on with that she walked away wow it's not like i was very keen on talking to her and how was it my fault that these women got the wrong idea i let out a tired breath and walked inside a few weeks passed with a lot of tension in the atmosphere my colleagues still used to hit on me every chance they got and phoebe was still salty about the whole thing i was still managing somehow though but everything came crashing down one day i walked inside the office to find everyone pointing at me and whispering behind my back now what ethan erica one of my colleagues walked up with a smile how are you feeling today should i get you something to drink how does coffee sound um no thanks i said walking past her at least five of my colleagues stopped on my way asking if they could do something for me what the hell was going on why were they so eager to do me such favors good morning ethan phoebe came to my desk grinning at my nervousness how does it feel to have everyone at your disposal what's going on i almost yelled do you have something to do with this me she started laughing how could someone insignificant like me do anything you're already quite popular here if you didn't know i just added to your popularity by accidentally disclosing a little piece of information my eyes widened did you did you tell them about my mom it wasn't me i swear she made an upset face your fangirls cornered me and started demanding answers i just told them the truth you know after all i needed to shift their attention somewhere else what the hell phoebe i fumed are you out of your mind i clearly told you not to do that why you don't like the attention she mocked or maybe you think that now everyone will treat you nicely just because you're the ceo's son that's sad but i'm sure you can deal with it she left before i could say anything else erica appeared in front of me with coffee and some snacks here you must be hungry she said with a smile please have these snacks don't you have work today i asked her she shook her head i already finished my work i'm here to help you with yours what erica move aside you're blocking the way two other girls said shoving erica out of the way ethan tell me what i have to do i can do all your work one of them said i'm even ready to do your household chores the other one said ethan i can cook for you daily if you want erica jumped in let me know where you live i'll be at your place in no time my head started spinning from all the things they were saying please stop i yelled at them i don't need your help leave me alone please they were quiet for a moment and i almost started feeling bad when erica suddenly started laughing it's okay i'll get you something for your headache you should go and rest i'll take care of all your work whoa what the hell why are you doing all this i said i don't need anything i said in frustration is this because my mom is the ceo are you all trying to impress me what no of course not erica replied i don't know about the others but i really care about you ethan oh please stop lying the other girl said to erica you developed a sudden interest in him while i've been here since day one i've always liked ethan and after that they started arguing the situation was getting worse by the minute and i was losing my sanity what did phoebe gain by doing this i got out of the office to get some fresh air i needed to think of something in fast i wouldn't be able to focus on work like this my phone was blowing up with messages from my colleagues the gist of all the messages was the same they wanted to be my servant in the end i had no option but to dial my mom's number i told her everything from the beginning she didn't say anything for a few minutes i almost thought that she'd hung up mom are you listening i asked yes yes i am she replied i'm just wondering isn't phoebe the girl who was incredibly rude and often ticked me off yep she's that girl i answered but mom don't let your personal feelings come into this i just need your help with my situation fine i will have you transferred to a different branch and as for these girls don't worry i'll take care of them she hung up before i could ask her what she was planning as promised i was transferred elsewhere and i finally found peace it was only weeks later that i heard about what had happened in my previous office somehow word got spread that phoebe was like a daughter to my mom mommy even visited the office to meet her specially at times and this turned the tables no one was interested in me as the ceo's son anymore phoebe was the new hot topic and i even heard that she was getting a lot of attention from her male colleagues while the others had completely isolated her well all i can say is what goes around comes around
