crazy go crazy go crazy we love you all we celebrate you all we're so proud of you all listen graduates from my heart to your heart so I want to tell you again I could not be more proud of you I always get excited around graduation season because of this one simple word commencement and a lot of times at these graduations we go in there and cut up and scream as loud as we can because we feel like something is coming to an end but it's not called a combination is called a commencement that very word means to begin and so I don't know what season you're walking into for some of you all you're headed into a season that's unknown for some of you all you know the next school the next degree the next opportunity that you're working on but whatever you're doing next I want to congratulate you on your new beginning don't look at this as him is over now no is just getting started you haven't seen anything yet so let me drop three simple ideas in your pocket that I wish someone had told me especially when I was coming out of high school in and an undergraduate number one this is what I want you to always remember from my heart to your heart just put it in the freezer you may not need it now you might need it later at number one don't live your life trying to please other people don't live your life trying to please other people the only person the only person that matters whose opinion matters more than anyone elses is God's opinion you might have to leave you might go to a school and need to transfer you might have to take a break your route your role may look different than other people don't let your grandma name your mama name bad email friends mentors anybody tell you what you ought to do I'm talking to high school graduates in college now if you and pre-k in middle you better listen to everything they tell you to do if you want to eat and keep them shoes on your feet and keep texting and your phone you do everything they tell you to do I'm talking to my older people who are becoming adults because adults Inge is real out here in these streets you cannot live your life for other people make sure you discern what God wants you to know number to know who you are you can't live your life comparing yourself to everybody social media is doing a disservice to so many folks because we compare ourselves to other people you're looking at their pictures and looking at how many likes they get in looking at them post there Luke are looking at them post a new house and you feel like you're behind the only time you feel like you're behind is when you're comparing yourself to somebody else if you're not racing nobody can beat you you're not in a race you got to run your race you got to live your life you have to accomplish your dreams stop looking over and everybody else's Lane and let them drive how God has led them to drive but the only thing you can do is control your life control your destiny control your actions your habits your work ethic but don't spend your life comparing yourself to other people let me tell you a secret a lot of people are filter do you know what that means they've put filters on their life to show their best self nobody posed ugly selfies nobody posts the pictures that they took they took 30 pictures and only one made it because the other 30 they were looking cross-eyed and their hair wasn't in place and they had the lady eyebrows back down lick the tongue and lamb back down there to make sure that lipstick went on their teeth you don't see the real person I woke up like this that's fake don't nobody wake up on fleek we wake up with crusts in our eyes and our breath smells stop comparing yourself to other people and live your life come on touch yourself say I gotta live my life I gotta live my life don't live your life worried about what other people think about you know who you are for yourself and then thirdly and finally don't be afraid to fail don't be afraid to fail there is a book called The Alchemist and my favorite quote in that book says this the only thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve is the fear of failure you cannot walk around your whole life saying I will it but I don't want them to reject me or I would apply but I don't want them to discount me I would sing or I would try out but I don't want them to judge me it's okay the greatest people in the world have failed at something I don't care if you name Oprah Winfrey I don't care if you name Steve Harvey I don't care if you name Kanye West I don't care if you name cardi B I don't care what name you name every person that is successful has not been successful at everything but what they have been successful at is getting back up after life knocks them down and I want to tell you don't be afraid to fail gone and fail your way to your next victory fail your way to your next opportunity fail your way to your next triumph and then when you get up and shake the dust off your feet people gonna be wondering how did you do it how did you make it tell them off every time I fell down I got back up again your testimony is like Maya Angelou still I rise that's my gift to you today I want you to listen to the words of the legend everybody's grandmama the words of that great famous poet dr. Maya Angelou still I rise everyone in the world has gone to bed one night her mother with fear or pain or loss or disappointment and he had each of us has awakened arisen somehow made our ablutions seen other human beings and said morning I want you fine thanks in you it's amazing wherever that abides in the human being there is the nobleness of the human spirit despite it all black and white Asian Spanish Native American pretty plain then fat Valda celibate we rise you may write me down in history with your bitter twisted lies you may chide me in the very dirt but still like dust arise does my sassiness upset you why are you beset with gloom just because I walked as if I have oil wells pumping in my living room just like sons and like moons with the certainty of tides just like hope springing I still I rise did you want to see me broken bowed head and lowered eyes shoulders falling down my tear drops weakened by my soulful cries does my sassiness upset you don't take it so hard just as I laugh as if I have gold mines digging in my own backyard you can shoot me with your words you can cut me with your lives you can kill me with your hatefulness but just like life arise does my sexiness offend you Oh does it come as a surprise that I dance as if I have diamonds at the meeting of my thighs out of the huts of history's shame I rise up from a past rooted in pain I rise a black ocean leaping and wide Welling and swelling I bear in the tide leaving behind nights of terror and fear I rise into a daybreak miraculously clear I rise bringing the gifts that my ancestors gave I am the hope and the dream of the slave and so naturally the anko rise hey family thank you for tuning in again we're so grateful to have this opportunity to share God's Word and I am really excited today because there's a whole different set up going on up here and I am seated with my bride seated with Lady breeze you all know her who I know is Breanna Jame Sullivan Sharpe we would have been married in December we will be married five years and so we've been walking together on this journey in marriage five years but I've known her since 2010 and I'm just so excited because last Monday on her birthday her single drunk and it even shocked her she came running down the hall screaming about it and I said what's going on and she said it dropped it dropped my single dropped she had no expectation for it to fall on her birthday and so we are first of all just excited and we celebrate with you all that God is doing in this next level of your life so fellowship family helped me salute our own lady breed and celebrate her single she just celebrated a birthday and we are so so proud of you we're just elated and excited over your now in your next I really do believe that this is just the beginning just like I told the graduates a minute ago it's a commencement it's just getting started so I'm gonna hush a little bit and we're gonna hear from God to date through what God has done with this single and our first lady today so brie tell us about the story behind this song what why is this song hidden like this listen first of all thank you Pastor aka my booth thank you for you know taking this time to share this beautiful platform to allow me to share my song and share my story to the world I just want to thank you and thank thanks to my fellowship family I love love so much like words cannot express how much I love y'all so let's get into it the story right so I wrote it free last year of August it came from a very deep personal place I was very low in my spirit you know he had just moved to Chicago in March and we were we have been transitioning and now it's the summer time and you would think you know I kept hearing all these stories about wait till summertime shot hits there's nothing like the summertime shy so I was excited about summer time hitting Chicago but I was so depressed and down in my personal you know spirit him in my you know personal space and so I remember it was in August where it was one of my lowest days I just couldn't get out of the bed I didn't have any energy I didn't have any Drive and these words beginning to come to my mind you know it's all in my head you're not good enough you don't have a chance and what's so crazy is the words that began to come to my spirit are words that I have told myself through you know these years you know I'm 33 now praise the Lord just under 30 30 Amen yeah no but you know for 33 years I would wrestle with myself and you know just very I dealt with insecurities and just didn't think I was good enough and people would affirm me and tell me oh you have an amazing voice you have an amazing gift but I didn't believe it and so that's when the guy begins to drop the words in my spirit now next thing I know there's a song birthing out of me and so I wrote the words wrote the song and I remember coming up to the church and I saw Willie and I said Willie I got this song but I need you to hurt you and put some music to it before we lose it because I felt the urgency that it needed to be done and so we began he began to put some music to it and like maybe the next week we began recording it and so I recorded the vocals I laid the vocals down Willie began to get some musicians together and laid the track down and that was that so we recorded the song but we didn't do nothing with it and so the year you know transition on out and I knew that this song needed to be heard but I was terrified because the song is so vulnerable it's my personal story it comes from a deep place but I didn't know how people were going to accept it so even after writing a song about freedom I still wasn't free and I mean just wrestling with myself well I don't sound like you know the artists that they hear on the radio and so I kept pushing myself back no don't put it out there you know just just have it as a some material on the side but the top of the year here in Willy I thank God for our MD musical director Willie Jones can we give it up for him that's a really really stayed on me at the top of the year he said lady breathe you know we got this song well we gonna do it we're gonna do I'm like okay Willie you know we gonna put it out we gonna put it out and then of course March came around the pandemic kid and Willie came to me he said Lady Braves no excuse now everybody is at home we have nothing to do let's get this song done what is your potential date so he literally shift my mindset and that's why it's important you have to have people in your circle that's gonna push you and get you to where you need to be when you don't feel the energy of the shrimp to get yourself where you need to be so it really got on me I said okay let's get it done I told him my potential date which was June 8th and lo and behold the song drops on my birthday which was a surprise as you just said and it literally was one of the best gifts that I receive and it's just amazing well I think that's it's ironic that you say was the best gift you'd receive because I think a lot of people felt like it was a gift that you gave on your birthday and so you've received a lot of feedback the song is entitled free for those of you who have not heard anything about this I'm rocking this word because there is a deep spiritual meaning behind this and with the context I believe everything is sacred ly synchronized like we're celebrating our graduate today we're still in the midst of two pandemics covert and overt racism in this country and covet 19 we're still wrestling all of this and then here comes this angelic drop of goodness and delightfulness out of nowhere they just reminds people free in a world where we're not free we're literally quarantine so what does this why do you think it hit because there were people messaging you and and and writing you on Instagram and Facebook and in boxing you tell us some of the things you heard from people and then tell us why you think this song is hitting right now in our culture well some of the feedback that I received was this is my devotional every morning this is my anthem this is a song of affirmation this song has saved my life I mean it's just mind-blowing what people are you know telling me and I think the song is resonating with everyone because in a time where we are sheltered in and we're quarantined God is allowing us to still be free you can still be free while you're quarantined while your shelter in even in the middle of a pandemic even through racism you have to make up in your mind that yes even though the system does not look at me as a human being I look at myself as a human being and I am free so you can't allow people to put their filthy mouth on you you can't allow that because you you are bigger than them so it I think it comes with mindset and and this song dropping in the middle of a pandemic I really believe is a source of healing that's something else I've heard that this song represents healing is is motivation is empowering it's inspiring and so I mean all praises go to guys seriously well you know it's amazing to me because I've known you for 10 years now may of 2010 is when we met yeah I've known you for 10 years I've been getting on your nerves for 10 years it's official now it's beautiful and and so you know tell us a little bit about the background of your life these lyrics come out of a story these lyrics come out of an experience and there's somebody out there ray now listening today somebody in fellowship a family or friend or someone listening who they don't even feel any kind of freedom they feel like they're trapped by their past or they're trapped by low self-esteem or they feel like bondage you know maybe because if something didn't go the way they wanted it to go resentment or regret or anything tell us a little bit about some of the experiences where you had to work through to get to this free place and then as you said earlier when we were talking earlier this week it's not a destination right it's a journey so tell us about this journey that you've been on and you're still oh yes so I grew up in a pastor's home my dad was a pastor my mom was the first lady in the minister of music so my brother and I we grew up as preachers kids and that is not the most glamorous life to be in to grow up as a passive child because so many people have a magnifying glass on you so instead of having the magnifying glass on themselves they put it on my mom or they put it on the preacher's kid or they put it on the first family and so just personally I felt that pressure that you know I used to hear things when you go out in public you represent your father you represent the church so you make sure that you're on your best behavior and then I also had to fight against the stereotype that preacher kids are the worst kids I was determined not to come out and be one of the bad kids and and this stereotype was formed but people don't understand why the stereotype is formed you know being a preacher's child or preacher's kid is it's it's very I don't know it's just hard because you have to share your parents with like depending on how big you know your your parents ministry is maybe with the world with the church family and sometimes you don't get to see your parents all the time or share that intimate something because they're always serving they're always on the go and so that was something that I had to deal with so I was living towards the expectations of people because I wanted to please people and I didn't want to be the bad child I had to be the good child and I'm gonna prove everybody wrong and as I kept telling myself I was telling myself that I was digging a deeper hole of bondage because I'm living for people instead of myself and so I'm going through the years you know middle school everybody knew that my dad was a pastor go through high school everybody knew my dad was a pastor now I'm in college everybody knows that he's a pastor I'm I graduated from college and then 2010 I meet a preacher Lord I thought I was gonna be staying free and then what did your mama tell you my mom told me stay away from the preach is free she says stay away from him I don't just stay away but you you were different you know you weren't like the typical I guess the typical preacher and and I had to tell my mom that before she met you and when she met you for herself she saw that nah he's different he's definitely your mother yes she loves you too but I mean after you know going through the years of just being living in a home where my father was a pastor and being a part of a first family the last thing on my mind was to meet a preacher and then we ended we started dating and then we get married so it's like I for a second I felt like I'm never going to be set free from this world where I have to be perfectly stereotyped yeah box that you got to live in yes and so I felt like that for a long long time and I believe it wasn't until last year once we transition from home to come to Chicago and it's amazing how you know you when you leave home and you go into a new land in place come on guy things be God begins to break things off of you and so you know just transition into Chicago and you know get into know this brand-new place and this brand-new church family that's when I begin to wrestle with myself and said hey need to change some habits and I need to start living for me and then of course that's when the song began to birth and like you said this is a life process this is not something where you can just arrive to freedom okay talk about it no no it's a it's a mindset change and you have to continually do things that are gonna help you and heal you yeah so yes I do want to be free but I had to do some things that will help me get to the place I'm that I'm in today I really want to share a very vulnerable story come on come on I think you need to tell the people I want y'all to hear by Charles first lady yes yeah no you know we were new to the city but this is this is so beautiful at the same time we transition to Chicago and now we're here at fellowship Chicago and I this coming to the church I noticed something about the women here at fellowship Chicago and something I had never seen before from Atlanta because you know the cultures are different I know this that a lot of women have nose-rings Church and I thought it was so beautiful to see because where I'm from the women didn't wear nose rings like that was a big no-no and so I started to see that and I'm like oh this is so cute like I get a little one and before I remember before I even like mention it to you I wrestled with it so bad because I knew that that's something that I didn't think he was gonna prove that you know just from the context that we come from and I mean I would see older women with no strings here at fellowship Chicago not find me your roles right okay but maybe like forties fifties like it was just liberating for me to see beautiful black women rocking their nose rings and rocking it with confidence and for some reason I think the culture has kind of stereotype nose-rings as if it was as if it's something negative or bad but it Knight is a form of art it's beautiful and so I decided to say hey I want a nose ring too but then how dare you want a nose ringing you're about to become the first lady of fellowship Chicago it just didn't go together and so that was one of the things that I wrestle with and I remember talking to you about it and I'm like I want a nose ring so remember last year for my birthday I got a fake nose ring you sure do and I put it in my nose and I took a picture and the Saints went in on me some of the older women and some oh the first ladies now what are you doing why do you have that you know you and your nose you know you got to be your first lady she went in on me I don't want you to get on up then get wild and buck wild in Chicago don't lose yourself your grandmother was the first lady yes this is Bree is the third generation of being a first lady so this is a this generational print so do you remember what I said at first about that yes I remember you you know you really were not 40 you know you were you were totally against there I mean you cool with the fake one because you could take that out it wasn't permanent um but I'll never forget that day that you came to me at the house earlier this year and you told me you said breathe I got something to tell you it was the discussion at a donkey day preached about that donkey getting free come on and then the Lord freed you come on and the Lord said you told me that God told you to let Bree be free and and let her just be her authentic self so if you want to get a nose ring come on to get a nose ring and I couldn't believe he was telling me that I'm like is this a joke like come on don't play with me and you were so serious and I could tell that you were serious because this big white smile came across your face and it looks so genuine and you really the energy I felt from you was I want what's best for you and so if you want to go out there and get a nose get you a nose ring if that's gonna make you happy and you know and it was even deeper than that it's like whatever you need to do to be free in your humanity that's what God was like you your position as the husband which which literally means you know in the biblical sense a house band the keeper of the house like a gardener so if I am your husband it is not my job to make you grow like I want you to grow my job is to make sure the atmosphere stays you know in a conducive way for growth I'm trying to help somebody our relationship it's not your job to tell somebody how to be and who to be but just make sure that in your atmosphere they are free to become what God wants them to be so it's deeper than a nose ring right because every time we stand on this stage or approach leadership eyes are watching and it's thousands of eyes watching I can't even shot without going viral I I can't give a church announcement without going viral because people are watching and just like they're watching me they'll watch even breathe and so God released me of feeling the need to to to worry about what people would think about you because it's like oh now I don't want them saying this about my wife I don't want them thinking this about my wife or I don't want them thinking this about me because a lot of times we project our own bondage on to other people and because I wasn't free enough to be who I'm supposed to be all the way without worrying about what people thinking all of that you know I was trying I was almost keeping you kind of keeping a lid on you but that day I think we both got free along with that donkey we did how did it feel you know cuz because I'm gonna ask another question in a minute but tell me how freedom feels what does it feel like to get free cuz somebody's gonna get free today I believe by faith and I want you to be able to express to them what did it feel like when you walked into this freedom and the moments of freedom along your journey because it's deeper than a nose ring y'all ain't no only thing we talking about but but what what does freedom feel like you know freedom is it's no feeling it the feeling that you get is so liberating because I look at it like this it's like you're climbing up Mountain right and when you climb up the rough side of the mountain it gets very hard it gets very difficult but when you get to the top of that mountain you feel the victory because the work that you put in to get to the top it is it's like it's an accomplishment that you feel and so freedom it's it's it's beautiful that's what it is it's beautiful because now you have gotten to a place where you are pleased with yourself and you don't care what nobody else thinks yeah and nobody can take that joy from you nobody can take that feeling from you home the Sun sets it's free indeed yes well would you also say to I want to just add in here freedom is scary too very freedom is scary you think about the slaves that were free a lot of them chose to stay because freedom comes with responsibility freedom comes with the unknown because a lot of us stay in bondage because it's comfortable you think about that don't care we did not intend to come here to talk about this donkey did baby okey-dokey then don't keep that Jesus rolled in on on Palm Sunday at least he knew where he was you know he knew those change he knew that stable he knew the keeper of that stable but what happens when God calls you to a free place anything it's not comfortable and you don't feel the joy yet you feel absolute fear because you've been so comfortable for so long and that job in that relationship with those happen with that addiction with that relationship with those people with those with those proclivities and now God is trying to release you but you're like well I like it over here ain't where I'm supposed to be but at least I'm comfortable at least I know it is over here so what do you say for people who are feeling that freedom cuz you you you were with me you with not made some hard decisions where I got free and it cost me everything I wouldn't be here we wouldn't be here if I didn't get free free enough to to say God said it's time to leave or it's time to move or it's time to transition and it's not always fun and game so what do you say to the people who are feeling that scariness of that that Tim it kind of nerve yeah I would say I think your inner circle is so important having people surround you that support you and they may see you in bondage and they may see you unhappy and they see that you're on this journey trying to be free but their job is to push you and I keep thinking about the midwives come on come on Midwife so you're you're pregnant with free right and it's time for you to birth free but you need some midwives to help you push this baby out and you need midwives that are willing to see you win not being wise they're gonna try to steal your baby once you birth the baby no midwives that are gonna help you push this baby out and and and see the gift because they understand the gift or the baby that you're about to burn they understand the baby's purpose they understand the baby's power that they have and so you got to have some people in your corner pushing you saying come on come on you got this I know your days are low you feeling really low you feel like you don't have the drive to do this but you got this people that's gonna pray for you like people they're not gonna talk about themselves all the time people that are interested in your well-being because they want to see the best out of you they want to see you birth this baby because this baby may save your life and other's lives so you got to you got to surround yourself with some people who authenticates not because of who you are and your status hmm come on know you genuinely care for me you genuine yeah and then it takes a special person to help you birth something that that has nothing to do in them you know it's like I'm with you and I'm caring for your dreams I'm caring for your destiny I'm caring for your work you're next and it and that's not even my baby like I can't put my name on this I can't take credit for this but you ought to be around people who don't need any credit they just want to see you in you win see I see you know when I think about your story Willie like like Willie IMD if it wasn't for him if God didn't use him to keep pushing you like he didn't you know his face is not on the album it's not on the single cover but you need somebody who said yeah just put my name on the back of that or just know where I am because when we get ready to do the next one I'll still be here ready to push you again and I think that's major we need to stop right there I think there's a preaching point that then some of us need to get some squares out our circles a lot of us need to make sure we're not are surround it with people who are leeches because some folks have a leech spirit and Alisha scientifically is a parasite and they add no value all they do is take from you they are takers they suck life out of you they suck energy out of you some people every time you get off the fool with them you're more tired than when you were before you answer the phone that's a leech spirit they won't know can I borrow something can I get and it is always about them but but when you really are about to get free you don't need leeches you need some leaders you need some dreamers you need some reaches and some workers and some folk who can say hey you may not be there yet but i'ma walk with you t we get there I think that Jesus had an inner circle didn't yet 12 but he didn't go everywhere with all to 12 he went with the two or three come on you know James Peter John and he went to the garden with them he went into the house to heal that look girl with the three my grandma used to say if all you got is 30 friends you're doing pretty good if you've got two or three real friends so I mean you know I get so happy I don't care whether I'm standing a sitting like it's happy but but but here's this piece what's keeping us bondage what's keeping us in bondage that's that's not final question before I share that what the revelation we had together this week what's keeping people in bondage man some things we need to look out for I think for me what kept me in bondage so long was my inner thoughts inner thoughts you know in the song I said I say that my inner me was my enemy yeah you know you wrestling with yourself because yourself is you you're telling yourself that you're not good enough you know years have gone by I haven't scratched the surface of plans for my life that's foolishness that that's like that is a spirit the spirit that you do not need to allow to overtake your mindset so I really believe that us being in our heads especially you know I love the man but you know I have special love for the women come on we know women we are good for overthinking and being in our hair all of the time instead of processing it and right and get out in a journal or talking it with somebody and their piss or somebody but we have to get a get out of our heads get out of that mindset get those evil inner thoughts out of out of your mind so you can push through you need to delete some people out of your phone mm-hmm get rid of the people they are not helping you get to the place where you need to be they just bag it come on heavy baggage and it costs to fly with extra baggage can you just talk about it for it's a cause unless you got to pay your fees I got to pay you gonna pay for it now you can carry much as you want to but you're gonna pay for it yeah and you able to get through you're able to get through security quicker with less you able to move faster when you don't have so much on you so you have to get rid of that seriously so get rid getting rid of those negative thoughts that changing your mindset getting rid of people they are not supporting you and and most of all if anything your prayer life needs to increase you know that were that is my relationship with God it needs to increase because see when people see you on this journey being free some people can take that they cannot understand this vibe this mood that you carrying and they start hating on you and they're upset because God has grace you for this journey and and and they waiting on their time to come but they're not ready you got to get out of Bundy's first so you can be in this flow that I'm in you know freedom looks good on you come on so so you have to increase that intimate time with God and be be be real with God be honest and say now Lord look cuz he god is the homie for me yes so you have to let him know I am not feeling my business what do I do need to do percent some people my way that will help me come out of this low place this pits then I'm in and I believe that that that the journey of freedom that goal that where you trying to get will happen it's gonna happen that's that's so powerful I really appreciate you coming and just talking with me today and talking to fellowship and all of the ship ice today because I I have been blessed by your song you know I'm not wearing this for promotional things I'm wearing this because I really am free I mean I you know better than anybody else that the journey of walking right here fellowship as the associate pastor to the senior pastor position it has been a wrestle of identity you know who do I do I do i do I act like Reverend Evans do I act like pastor Jenkins or am i unapologetically unashamedly in due to belief fully holy Reginald Wayne Sharpe jr. and when you come into a new space you don't know how people gonna receive you I mean the truth is now you know six we're bout six months into the new past all of this has happened in six months I've been through more in six months than some preachers been through in forty years six months but now it's like okay I'm finally finding my groove you know and I'm like all right I can flow and be me but it ain't always been like that and so I had to get over myself you remember that day last year we were at Hampton and you tripped over yourself Bri was walking we trying to get to the okay I can't let it go cuz the Saints need to know this hey Bri was walking are we trying to get to lunch I was walking ahead of her cuz you know where the preachers conference everybody want to talk hey they hit that back package bunny is Bugs Bunny comfort hey doc doc doc and I was knocked out it's off was a head of Brie I said breathe Lizzy you gonna talk and do what you got to do and all of a sudden I heard do - - do I look back and Bree is laughing I'm like what just happened she said I just tripped over myself I said Wow and that's something how many of us trip over ourselves it ain't the devil is not our family it's not a friend we trippin over I said I was tripping over me and I think that what a lot wouldn't work in kept me or disabled me to get to this free spot is I had to get me out the way and let God work and do what God wants to do so listen y'all I'm about to share a revelation that then I pray blessing somebody can I share your permission yes all right listen you know we had a revelation we're in the kitchen eating shrimp and grits one day this week and I just we start talking about what it means to be free it's an identity issue freedom requires us to know who we are somebody say identity if you don't know who you are and I just said this to the Graduate if you don't know who you are you're gonna spend your whole life letting the voices of other people try to try to make you who you're supposed to be and what gave me freedom this week is that we discover Jesus even wrestle with his identity there is a moment in Matthew chapter 16 where Jesus asked the disciples who do people say that I am if you know who you are fully why would you ask or care what are they saying about me even Jesus had a moment where he needed more freedom in his humanity now in his divinity I'm sure he knew who he was because the Bible says in John before Abraham was I am which means his eminence I was before Abraham was this or is this you know it's because he's the I am his eminence preceded a perhaps isness and Apryl him is over in the book of Genesis and Jesus says before Abraham was I am so he knew who he was but there were still moments and I think this is powerful because even the greatest of us even the most confident of us will still have these secret moments where you have to wrestle with your own identity Jesus knowing who he was I am the bread of life I am the resurrection and the life I am the door he says who do men say that I am who do people say that I am and then a disciples respond what some people say you are you are the recapitulation of Elijah are you one of the prophets or your John the Baptist some people are confused if John the Baptist was you or if you were John the Baptist he said okay okay I heard on like I heard about all what's going on on Facebook and on Instagram and on Twitter he says but who do you say that I am and the only person that spoke up was who hey Peter Peter said thou art the Christ the Son of the Living God and you know what's so beautiful Jesus responds and he says flesh and blood didn't reveal that to you but only my father which is in heaven meaning you gotta have some people in your life who have heard from God about you cuz when you get low somebody needs to be able to speak as a huh no you're the head and not the tail no you're not gonna keep working at that same job you weren't called to be there you know you're supposed to be a minister you know you're supposed to move you know you're supposed to start that business what you you make all that good cakes on them cookies and you don't have a business yet somebody has to be able to hear from God even when you can't hear from God I know I'm about to get a little happy but for that I began wait don't do it I'm having um I'm being Oprah and dr. field today I'm trying to contain myself so so Jesus wrestles with his identity who's the only person that tells him who he is Peter right so watch this later on who's gonna deny Jesus three times and the issue is an identity issue because they say hold on Pete weren't you the one that was traveling with Jesus at naw naw that wasn't me he was scared for his life because sometimes you've been so close to Jesus it's gonna get you in trouble that's a whole nother sermon sometimes you're so close to God that you won't have to pay for that closeness cuz other people don't understand that closeness and they want so they asked him weren't you the one that was with Jesus aren't you his homeboy and he denies Jesus three times what was he denying his identity but on Sunday morning when when when when when Jesus gets about the grain he says tell my disciples and Peter to meet me in Galilee and Jesus restores Peter because watch this when Jesus was wrestling with his identity Peter restored him so later on when Peter wrestles with his identity is Jesus that restores all feeling me here it's reverse it's a reciprocity it's a reciprocal restoration here because their moments were you on it and I got to lift you up in their moments where I'm on it and and I got to lift you up we gotta work in this thing together and we can't dismiss anybody because all of us have been there when we forgot who we were in God but the good news is that when Peter on pentecost sunday morning preached one sermon 3,000 people got saved I'm so glad God doesn't throw us away somebody yell free to the top of your lungs Peter free Jesus Jesus free Peter and and when he freedom he said do you love me he said feed my sheep do you love me he said feed my sheep he said do you love me Peter and Peter answer yes Lord I love he said go feed my sheep and I speak over anybody's life watching today thank you later Bri Thank You Bree for doing this with us today I speak over your life today that God has not created you to stay stuck in the mud of your life God has not created you to live small God has not created you to lay there in the darkness get up put your feet on the floor try again dream again breathe again laugh again reach for it again and I speak freedom over your life whether Spirit of the Lord is there is Liberty I don't want anybody to get off of this service today and fill as low as you were when you came on here somebody shot Humphrey and you gotta say it so loud that hell shakes you gotta say it so loud that the devil gets nervous you gotta say it so loud that your inner voice here's your mind and your mouth because there is life and death in the power of your tongue I am free I may be sick but I'm free I may be divorced but I'm free I may be an unknown season but I'm free bring what you want to tell the people about freedom listen I keep thinking about we're at the airport right and we're walking on the mocking movement I think is a walking walkway I believe is that Midway and you're walking on the Midway but you have two options you can stand there as the walkway is moving or you can keep walking I don't want you to be that person that's stuck on a place where you supposed to be moving come on I need you to keep moving so you can get to where you need to be so you can get to your freedom that's all I got to say you know I ain't like you be trying to hoop and get loud but that's it you got to keep moving keep pushing because you need your freedom listen God has not given us a spirit of fear but of love of power and a sound mind I'm gonna ask lady Bri to pray for you and then she's gonna bless us with her song and I'll be right back to offer Christ to you but I want I want you to pray for us today I need prayer the ship needs prayer the people of God need prayer somebody's in bondage this morning somebody's in a stuck place somebody's on a moving escalator and they're standing still somebody's in a season where the pain is just too traumatic to try again to love again because they feel like you know if I if I do that again I'm gonna be hurt again or somebody knows that that one season one chapters past and they can't leave because they're too comfortable or because they're too scared they don't know how they're gonna make it by themselves and I want you to pray for freedom today let's pray God how we come to you this morning just want to tell you thank you that you are a loving and an amazing God you are incredible and we just take this time we what a privilege and an honor it is a come in your present sky our prayer today is freedom that we are praying for people that are tuning in right now that wants to be set free God they are on this journey guys some of us are stuck we're stuck in a pit we're stuck in that same place that we've been in for years but God we're claiming today that we want to be free and so god I'm asking right now in the name of Jesus that you step in that room step into the hearts of your people step into their minds step into their thoughts God and begin to change the atmosphere in the name of Jesus God I'm I'm believing that healing will take place God I'm believing that deliverance will take place God I'm believing that you will set your people free and God we know that this is a journey but the good news is that we know that you will forever be with us on the journey and so even if it when it gets low God or when it gets dark and when it gets heavier and we know that that baby that we're carrying is heavier we're right at the end where we wanna birth god be with us give us the peace that surpasses all understanding god have your way in our lives God we thank you for this word today god I thank you for this song that you have birth to me God that you have blessed the whole world to hear God we thank you never want to go back to being bound bound by people's expectations bound by sin bound by past mistakes you never want to go back when God brings you out of Egypt don't go back to Egypt your promised land is too great your promised land has too much fruit and and too much flavor and too much goodness and it go forward and God has sent His Son Jesus to create for us the ability to move forward and to live free whom the Sun sets free the Sun s Oh in not s UN who Jesus sets free is free indeed and I speak over your life today that if you just say yes to Jesus that if you start walking with him if you allow him in your life you will never ever ever be the same again it does not mean you won't have anymore storms but it means in the middle of your storm you'll have a storm partner you have somebody to hold an umbrella over your life over your children I pray in the name of Jesus that if somebody today needs to be free you've lived in the same old same old same old thinking the same ol same ol why not try Jesus I tried him for myself and I I accepted Christ at the age of seven or eight years old and it's been the best thing that's ever happened to me when the storms came I knew I was gonna survive when the waves came in rushing against my body I knew I had a lifesaver when he turned up I knew that I had a God who could take the heat out of fire and in every transition and in every failure and in every moment of weakness and in every mistake God looked down and said you steal my child and I can still use you yeah don't be caught up in the yoke of bondage but rather peace peace another incredible message by my brother I think it's really interesting it's an honor for me to be here with you guys you know in the church house in the sanctuary amongst like-minded people but I want you to know that a lot of my music kind of took me in to different venues took me into different places and sometimes we be it like a club and somebody in the back would say chomp and good luck when you go out there you know I always want to tell him you know I don't need luck right you know I'm up here on something even better than luck something more unconditional and that's the love of God so I need you just to say to yourself if you might not have a neighbor sitting next to you just say I'm not lucky I'm loved [Music] maybe I'll succeed jumped up from the floor to the middle you think I won't credit I don't a maid for me but I know who sits on the throne who makes the stage advise the son Oh she's a complain I've seen Boston shopping rain my lucky stars but that's not whatever Mother sings I'm no Pig as far as hi the sky [Music] [Music] - this [Music] [Music] beginning his life [Music] my lucky stars cuz that's not where my blessings are no they come from the fibers ha the sky [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] one lucky stop cuz that's not my blessings are no they come from father's heart not disguise
