hi this is David barcode look and I'm Janet Bartos alert with had the experience students you know we're excited to be here today to actually share quite a few things about a very important series that we're going to discuss and that series is going to start off with helping you knowing why we left Mormonism and what we have learned now leaving Mormonism coming to a true relationship refusing Christ with biblical Christianity but the series is going to start off with this idea if we only knew we would have never joined the Mormon faith exactly and that's basically what we're going to talk about but first we want to talk about is how we came about why we became interested in the Mormon faith we were we were really not you know connected to many religions beforehand I joined I went on a mission I went to BYU went on a mission came back and I married my lovely wife who was not a Mormon I taught her actually about the Mormon faith and she was very very intrigued with it and joined I think there were other reasons why you joined too but you know she did join and so why don't you share what happened from after you joined why we joined Janet and and I'd love to interject some other ideas about that here as well well I think we were really attracted to the kindness of the people the lifestyle that they led both of us had some experiences in our extended families with alcoholism and the ugliness that that can bring into your life at times and we didn't want that to be part of our future going forward and the people were very well dressed for the most part seemed to be successful and it was attracted to us that we would have a wholesome lifestyle and and we thought the people we found them to be very inviting and they drew us in know do is that's what happens many times you have you might have people out there who want something better and what happens is that if they don't know the Word of God and they feel the attraction of of the this religion of this phase of good people and I want to share that with with you Mormons really personify this goodness and morality and it's just it's very inviting as a matter of fact is very inviting for for a lot of people's attractive and that's what it happened to me because I wanted something better than what I had and I and I believe it happened to you you wanted something better than what you had it well and so we got involved on this for about 25 years a long time very long times yeah we lived it very well as a matter of fact we were temple going type paying you know Mormons going painting from alcohol not drinking coffee not smoking coloring all of them the word of wisdom it was it was really more of a way of life that we were intrigued with because you know we had children we and we were talking about having children so we were interested in wanting to you know bring up our children a face that was moral and safe and and those are some of the things that that we really really desired and that that is what we really fulfilled in our lives for for 25 years and and so things started you know we have your life we you know we're happy we are happy people we weren't like really disgruntled people I felt like we did know the work God we knew Mormonism that that village that that lifestyle very well but in essence what was going on with me I was born again at the age of 19 and I became a Mormon at the age of 24 and went on a mission at the use of 25 and so for me I was always born again with the Spirit of God and I'll never forget there are so many times as I was in the face with my wife we would sit at usually the front of the front row I'm you know the pews were and in the wards and and I was always look at my wife and what would I usually say to you you know would trouble me so many times why don't we think about Jesus who missed church yeah really troubled me like it was bothering me that that we consistently talked about Joseph Smith or the prophets the living prophets and and you know it was really kind of strange I started examining it and understanding it for what it was and it really triggered something in me that I wanted to investigate and look in question and see possibly what was the issue that I was dealing with and trying to actually trying to go out and see what other churches thought about Jesus in Christianity so what happened is I started doing it right I started going to the churches and I started reading the Word of God and and I remember you came to me and you said to me you know do you believe that there is one God or do you believe that there can be many gods and and I remember saying you know why are you looking for other truth when we already have the truth you know why are you looking outside of that when we've got it all no and and he was questioning the nature of God as it was defined in Mormonism oh no and it kind of made me think ooh you know if he keeps going along this path what's going to happen but he said oh no no I'm not leaving Mormon faith I'm just trying to figure things out yeah for myself good and that's actually what what occurred during that period of time I was really interested in wanting to know who God was in the Mormon faith they they really believed that God got the father that they call Heavenly Father they believed that he was an exalted man and that Jesus was one of his spiritual offsprings that if you will right you he was his son spiritually the first one created and it really concerned me because I started reading the Word of God I remember reading John 1:1 and in the beginning was the word and the Word was with God and the Word was God and the word came down in flesh and I was like whoa that started triggering me of questioning why that was the case it's Jesus was God remember I was saying abuse was God how was he created because it is it like a spiritual brother to me can you sense it kind of really worried me and I was I remember very well then I started learning about Hakeem Follett discourse where do you remember when I in them it was in Arizona we were in Scottsdale and and I read the King Follett discourse and I don't know many of you even know that came to follow up this course is or was it was it was a actual sermon that Joseph Smith gave about four or five months before he was killed it was a funeral cast it was a funeral breath at this man his name was King Fahd thank you follow and it was a discussion that he has this premonition and I'm going to read everything that you know of God I'm going to actually change that and rebuke what you know and I'm going to show it to you in the Bible I remember and and he described a God and I remember sitting there I said do you really believe it was a guy that that really was a boy that was raised on another planet and he went through you know following laws and oranges and he became they got himself and he met with a council of gods do you remember that any member I don't think you told me all of this at the time but that's one of the things I wish I'd known before I joined I wish I had known about this King solid discourse in the way that Joseph Smith defined the nature of God because I don't know that I would have joined inside on how he defined the nature of God because it's very different than how God describes himself in the Bible and in particular in the book of John yeah exactly that's why we you know we love to have people who don't know much about who God is to read the book of John because you really see the divinity of Jesus in in the book of John but I remember you know going in and seeing the King Follett discourse right and it was it was like he meant with a counsel of God he proved himself on on this earth and and this counsel of God gave him the right to to actually be given this earth that we are in right now that we reside right and as I was learning about this I was like what and this is the belief that Joseph Smith had and it also says that he had to work out his own salvation God and I think the missus really makes that much sense and it really started troubling me when I started seeing that he had to work out his own salvation and then it was more of like a regional manager god it wasn't like the God when I was reading in Isaiah you remember in isaiah 43:10 and it says there's no other gods before me or any say here i know no other ya know after me yeah form right and i was like what and because we started understanding what was going on a lot of that we were understanding who i was understanding who God was and I was burying my head in the sand you were buried right for a long time and and I didn't really pay much attention after that first initial you know what is he doing kind of thing I was just I kind of just ignored that and went on with life as we had known it and he was continuing to investigate and explore and read the Bible and I was just pushing along with my shoulder to the wheel and you know and then it was a big surprise about five six years later when he finally came to the conclusion that he wasn't buying it anymore yeah it doesn't make sense to me how would you have well it started making more and more sense of Mormonism because they ultimately believed that they could become God and it started making sense because I started questioning asking people and they would say they would say yes we can become gods and Heavenly Father had a father and and his father had a father and his father had a father and I started investigating I'm realizing oh my god this is really more of a polytheistic right a very polytheistic they never saw it that way I thought that you know I mean we weren't trying to usurp the god of the universe that we could become like God little G but not you know that we were going to take his place or anything that I mean that was something I was aware of but that I never really got caught up in too much because it didn't didn't concern me a lot and was one of those things I put on the Shelf I think exactly so one of the things that that really started concerning me was this whole idea of becoming awed and realizing that Mormonism really believed in a god that was in essence created if you will and then became a God of this earth by a Council of gods and it started really concerning the night and I councilís idea I was like you know that that reminds me of a Regional Manager God theory you know that I started as we started learning more about the Word of God what what started changing our lives is that we start really realizing who God was and how much bigger he's with us hey he wasn't really just a God of a region of the universe he was the God of all the you know the God who created all the glories not just a little area in the universe and I think what started changing for me when I started to listen a little bit to what he had to say and and he brought John 1:1 to my attention and at first it didn't make any sense at all but what started niggling in my mind was do I believe the urban legends that are out there oh god do I believe in God or do I believe God do I believe who God says he is because in the book of John he declares himself to be I am he declares himself to be God and so that was a big epiphany for me and that's one of the things I really wish I had known before I joined them women to know is the true nature of God yeah because then we started where you're right in John 4 that God is spirit right and we were like wow that's that's good I thought he was an exalted man look at it so we started learning the Bible and as we start to learn the Bible we came to fully understand that thank God the God that Mormons believe in is really not the God of the Bible and it concerns me quite a bit and because I I was getting born again and I was born and filled his as Ephesians I believe it's Ephesians 3:14 talks about Mikey 1:14 I'm not sure but the thing was is that I would feel his by the Holy Spirit of promise and I knew that and so for being in 25 years I think this was always like godless Jesus was trying to say yeah you're happy you're you've done a lot of good stuff you're you've done good things with your family but I'm going to teach you who I really am now and I I think that started changing a lot so I think you and I as we said it from the very beginning if we only knew the true nature of God's Word as he defines himself in the Word of God in the Bible we would never have joined the Mormon faith yeah so we're sharing this with you we hope this has helped you to understand a little bit more read the book of John Mormonism has a tendency to want to really you know give you the bookworm and let you read it like you pray about late you you know they challenge you to get baptized very very quickly and by doing that you don't have a chance to really explore the Word of God right you don't have a chance to really really like read the word go to Bible studies and so what and what happens when this occurs when they trying to to challenge you and trying to to you know commit you to Baptist and so quickly because of the lifestyle because of all the different things they believe in in essence what happens is that you get sort of sucked in very quickly you don't want to give you a lot of time to investigate in to compare and contrast and and questions and they only give you very limited information at first and then you find out about the deeper doctrines later and so it is kind of a bait-and-switch it really is but we hope that you enjoyed the first part of the series will be sharing many many more and we just want you to know that we love Mormon we absolutely adore Mormon people yeah I need very sick people there neighbor there are neighbors we love them to death they're really good at helping out and that attracted you know a great deal of our love and our belief in Mormonism because of this but we we started reading the Word of God and we started realizing that the Word of God really is very very very different from for Mormonism and we started realizing that it's either two ways right either it's the gospel of the Bible really or it's the gospel of Mormonism and if you look at those two you got to ask yourself what started first and we believe that the gospel of Jesus Christ is pulling them in the Bible now and we love it when we adoring you're almost finished with the Bible reading it for the pathnames that's awesome so we hope you enjoyed this series if you want to actually say anything please you're right below I'm where on YouTube so just right below your comments we'd love to talk to you about it thanks again for watching in devilish you
