thank God during the 80s and early 90s there were always two major players in the console Wars on one side we had Nintendo with the NES and Super NES and on the other side we had service games otherwise known as Sega although it didn't sell as well as the NES in America the Master System was a great success in Europe securing Sega as a major competitor to Nintendo however their biggest success would come in the form of their next console in 1988 Sega would release the mega drive or if you come from America the Genesis I honestly didn't realize the world began with 16 bits Sega would go on to sell around 30 million units globally nearly tripled that of the Master System sadly though it wasn't enough to beat Nintendo who would sell nearly 50 million snez consoles Sega would never reach the same level of success that they had with the Mega Drive their next console the Sega Saturn would launch in 1994 and would unfortunately be a commercial failure only selling around 9 million units before being discontinued in 1998. its downfall would be due to a combination of bad Management on sega's end as well as the Master System being harder to develop for when compared to other systems such as the original Sony PlayStation which would end up selling over a hundred million units the last console Sega would ever produce would be the Dreamcast in 1998 however like the Saturn it would only ever sell around 9 million units before being discontinued in 2001. after this Sega wouldn't make any more consoles and would have said focus on developing games for other consoles and PC they did however produce a mini version of the mega drive with 40 games pre-installed to cash in on the mini classic console phase division recently made a Mega Drive model 2 mini honestly this thing looks really good wait that's a Raspberry Pi honestly this thing looks really good so much detail and attention put into its design it even comes with the original Mega Drive game pads other than a few mini consoles though Sega haven't produced any new Hardware in over two decades however for the sake of this video I would like to pause reality for just a moment and ask this question what if Sega made a console today now obviously the model I'm going to make is just the concept I don't know what a console made by Sega would actually look like today my design is just an educated guess however I do want to include some characteristics from previous Sega consoles as well as adding a few minor features of my own to give it some additional character for starters I would like my machine to fit the modern design aesthetic of current Generation video game consoles although they look completely different both the Xbox series exit S as well as the PS5 have a very clean design doing a good job at hiding any ugly edges between their panels I will try to incorporate this into my design but also retain some of the key characteristics Sega used with past consoles back in the 80s and 90s Seiko were known for being more edgy and grown up when compared to their main rival Nintendo and I think that is perfectly personified by the Mega Drive its iconic black paint job the enormous Dome was 16-bit displayed proudly in full view the site events which go nowhere it's such a Timeless design I would like to take some of the edginess that the Mega Drive and other classic consoles had and bring it into the 21st century if this console were to exist in 2022 it would need to stand out when compared to the rest of the competition an example of this would be the PlayStation and Nintendo having many exclusive titles that could only be played on their systems this thing would go to Xbox if they actually used any of them this could potentially imply that if Sega continued to make consoles they probably would have made their most popular franchises exclusives another thing console manufacturers use to draw potential players in are special Hardware features for Nintendo its portability with the switch for PlayStation it's their VR headsets and specialized controllers for Xbox it's um Game Pass Preparatory SSD expansion maybe anyways for the Sega console I'll try to include a special feature or two that other systems are lacking since this is a modern console it should be equipped with all the features that modern systems usually have this would include a slot loading Blu-ray Drive as opposed to a top loader like on the Dreamcast USB ANC HDMI output and online connectivity when it comes to the overall specs of the console I'll imagine that it has similar power when compared to the PS5 and series X so let's say that it can output at 4K with Ray tracing and a high frame rate finally the console news have a good name otherwise you are left with the original Xbox I've seen a lot of people asking for a Dreamcast too but I don't think Sega would call their modern console that in the past Sega had used the planets in our solar system to name their consoles either for project code names or for full-blown releases like the Sega Saturn I'm gonna take that space and expand upon that idea space is often seen as the final frontier being Grand and alluring and that is something I would like people to think about when seeing this new console anyway I've talked long enough here is my take on a modern Sega console [Music] [Laughter] foreign [Music] [Music] [Laughter] [Music] foreign [Music] [Music] foreign [Music] take on a Sega console first let's take a look at its overall shape I have taken a few design cues from the Mega Drive namely the Dome that displays the name logo of the console as well as the large vents at the front of the system the actual shape of the upper vent was partially inspired by the shape of the Dreamcast controller where the bottom rectangular section connects to the sphere in the center around the front we see the Blu-ray Drive the power button as well as two USB ports speaking of ports around the back we get an additional two USB type A's and ethernet port HDMI and a power supply port with a little Easter egg of everyone's favorite needle Mouse at the back there is also a special feature namely an m.2 SSD expansion Port like on the PS5 enabling users to easily upgrade their overall storage you may have noticed that the console is quite large truth be told I don't really have an excuse for this other than the PS5 exists anyway the Sega Cosmos can be operated in both a horizontal position or a vertical position thanks to the stand that comes as standard with the system all you need to do is slide it into the slots located on the left side of the system software wise the cosmos can play not only modern AAA titles but can also play classic titles from older systems like the Master System the Mega Drive the Saturn and the Dreamcast all available for everyone to play still doing what nintend don't this also includes backwards compatibility with physical media including CDs from the Dreamcast the Saturn and the Sega CD add-on but not Night Trap another special feature comes in the form of the controller around the back of the hand grips there are two sets of haptic plates which move quickly backwards and forwards one example of them being used would be in a game where you are firing a weapon both the haptic Motors and the haptic plates would move accordingly making it feel more like you are holding an actual gun and feeling The Recoil the controller also comes with removable batteries which can either be charged during gameplay via the type C port or be swapped out for a fresh pair of batteries finally there is one last topic that I would like to cover console manufacturers often release special editions of their systems and the Sega Cosmos is no exception first we have the all-white aesthetic it's certainly a very modern and clean look perfect for showing any dust but perhaps you're not a fan of the modern look and prefer a more retro aesthetic then I present to you the Retro Cosmos inspired by the mega drive it comes with additional markings around certain parts of the machine either describing their function or displaying the console's special features maybe though you might want a space theme to match the name of the cosmos Sega have you covered with the Galaxy Edition covered in stars and a spiral galaxy Atop The the Dome or maybe you're just a fan of the Blue Devil introducing the Sonic Cosmos Dr robotnik's worst nightmare [Music] so this is my take on a modern Sega console I'll admit that there are a few flaws with design but overall I'm happy with the outcome however there is one major issue that no Sega console could ever resolve it cannot play Forza Horizon 3. and on that sad note it is time to end the video thank you all very much for watching and until next time it's goodbye
