any longer to review idiocracy it might be too late and people won't remember that it wasn't always like this ad Agra see of course is a cult hit science fiction movie written and directed by Mike judge not like it could have done much better anyway considering Fox pulled the plans for the initial release due to the test audiences not liking the movie much at all trying to save face and not have to worry about this turd marring their good image Fox waited a year before releasing idiocracy - very few theaters with a next to non-existent marketing campaign and it turned out people thought it was [ __ ] wonderful it very quickly turned into one of those greatest movies you never heard of I wonder who the hell they pick for test audiences for these things uh maybe the ones they did felt a little hostility during the movies from eyes as science fiction movies go idiocracy doesn't just take place in the future with higher technology they actually explore the consequences of de-evolution the idea goes that natural selection favors progress when you need to be strong or smart to survive however in the modern world that's not a situation at all so rival is so easy any idiot can do it therefore the genes passed on to the next generation are simply the genes of those who do the most [ __ ] that being the drooling idiots and after enough generations of this the whole of society dumbs down more and more creating an idea cracy and why am i bringing this up now of all times because the climate on YouTube all these rules in place to prevent the infringement of copyright being used to carpet-bomb any and all creators and force ads on other people's work that they actually on the crapper right so so it's actually literally infringing on their copyright when you do this and everyone knows the system is [ __ ] but just continue on with it anyway in each year just gets worse and worse worse so be this a wake-up call or a swan song I present to you Adia cracy the movie opens up with a booming narration by Earl Mann covering the basics of the concept of the evolution in human society it began to simply reward those who reproduce the most and left the intelligent to become an endangered species something I'm sure quite a few people talk about on their own and it has been used in science fiction quite a lot in the past the time machine in 1895 the last and first man in 1930 and the marching morons in 1951 of course in that last one the heads of society the politicians and the like were still smarts just the rest of the population was dumb that's not quite the case in idiocracy as we see with the examples of the smart couple carefully planning their family while at the same time are a stereotypical trailer-trash can't seem to stop pumping out kids thought she was on the pills and [ __ ] listen lady I don't know why you would think that even at least she wasn't on the pill either as we follow the two potential families we find the smart couple wait too long to start then have problems getting the piping to work and at the same time the morons are coming out babies like false copyright claims at least that explains how the hell they can afford them now that we've set up the setting now it's time to meet our protagonist for this adventure Joe Powers played by Luke Wilson he's a military librarian or was but he's just been reassigned I don't want to know a summon I tell sergeant Messer that every time I'm good at this could it what sitting on ass no it's what I do for a living that's job I ever had shouldn't I train this guy I think he can figure out how to sit on his ass and watch TV all day hey this is a lot harder than it looks sometimes I have to watch a silo movies their fourth legitimate job hashtag words of fair use we then jump over to a meeting with a higher-ups talk amongst themselves as a means to in effect lecture to the audience exactly what this new assignment is for Joe and why he was selected they're working on freezing soldiers in suspended animation until they need them and needed to be sure on average it worked luckily for them joe baugher's is quite possibly the most average guy in history positively prosaic in every way still this is an important project so they can't just use the average Joe we had a little less luck in finding a female researchers dream within our ranks and we're forced to look into the private sector they have to use the average Jane as well which they can't find in the military because I guess they are all above average examples in there so who pray tell is the embodiment of the normal everyday woman this is Rita it all makes sense now that's what I've been doing on all these years being broke as [ __ ] though perhaps is not just the average nature of the participants but the fact that they're looking for people with no family who won't come snooping around if the experiment goes bad and the stereotypical prostitute is a woman with no family or friends to fall back on introducing Rita played by Maya Rudolph of course to secure her officer Collins had to acquire her from her pimp upgrade played by the rapper Scarface first however there was a difficult challenge of gaining his trust Collins we skipped the technicals please sure you know there's a lot of exposition to go through but just getting this part of the sentence already taken up out of the court of the time of the review I'm talking really fast to do this never mind his illicit lifestyle to acquire Rita then on to the experiment they intend to freeze the participants in pods for one year if they die well I gotta fix the bugs but if they survive then Collins believes this technology may be able to play subjects and suspended animation indefinitely interestingly enough when getting ready they actually allow Joe and Rita to talk letting us know about their life outside of military experimentation so uh you an artist or something uh yeah you do paintings or yeah paintings it's kind of abstract art but really high-class you can only see it in the dark when you bring a black light out before long they are packed in frozen and left to wait one year before they are reanimated promise all that elicits Chet Collins in to acquire Rita it kind of got up with him resulting in his arrest considering the secretive nature of this project when the base closed down shortly after nobody know about the experiment or people trapped in the coffins it wasn't helping this also coincided with the turning point in civilization when the dumbing down of the population started causing severe problems that nobody could solve because they had other [ __ ] on the agenda the greatest minds and resources were focused on conquering hair loss and erections so if we actually go even further into the future in this movie does and the plan of the Apes does happen it'll be pretty much the same only the Apes will have fabulous hair and raging boners the world continued to go to [ __ ] until a year 2505 rather it's still going to [ __ ] but we've stopped fast-forwarding through everything as this is the point when Joe rejoins the events going on thanks to one small event due to the world forgetting how to properly dispose of trash a cataclysmic garbage avalanched his through the landfill dislodging the coffin of course the coffin was disposed of back in 2005 which is back when they still knew how to do landfills properly so it should have been underground and therefore wouldn't have been affected by the Avalanche but you know never mind it jets got to get back in the story somehow thus Joe's coffin gets to slosh in the crap slide and flung back into the new society slamming it to the apartment window of freedo played by da shepherd who is enjoying some primetime television it all knew how much and no kicked in the nuts comm was not real it was a satire poking fun at things like scare tactics of course the fact that a lot of the people out there seem to think it was real and still liked it that is still kind of scary the drawing of his pot releases Joe from a suspended animation problem is free dough doesn't give it em about Joe's confusion in this situation and just gets more and more pissed off at Joe keeps interrupting out my balls thus he tosses him out the window this gives us our first big look at the dystopian future of dumbassery where language itself has devolved into slang grunts and confused looks Joe was able to understand them but when he spoke in an ordinary voice he sounded pompous and [ __ ] to them it's pretty much like trying to have a conversation about quantum mechanics and how it relates to chaos theory over twitter continuing to be confused at every turn Joe decides to check in at the local hospital and figure out what's causing the weird hallucinations he's in good hands though with dr. Justin Long taking care of him says in your chart you [ __ ] up you talked like a [ __ ] and your shits all [ __ ] it's worse than we thought he's got a nice yawn influenzae doctor long doesn't have too much advice for Joe outside oh stop being such a [ __ ] however they did all the magazine and the bill matching up is enough to make Joe realize what happened he spent way more than a year in suspended animation Justin on the other hand is freaked out because Joe doesn't have an identity tattoo to scan and this results in alarms screaming and confusion on the plus side with everyone afraid he can just leave without paying the bill this time when wandering outside though he starts taking in that this is all real and this is how the world changed in 500 years and the number one movie in the country was called ass and that's all it was well at least there's still work for guys like me who must be there to let people know about both the objective and subjective qualities of the ass as the night wears on Joe finds himself trying to procure some food from a Carl's jr. vending machine but it's quickly surrounded by police seeing he is unscannable they arrest him find out he's the guy who left the hospital without paying the bill and send his ass to court it's not all that different though look they know he's broke said they provided a court-appointed attorney frito pendejo says here you are robbed the hospital why'd you do that yeah I'm not guilty that's not what the other lawyer said welcome to the YouTube copyright dispute process guilty line up on the right and on the left please line up the guilty Joe disputes their claim but as the scoops are rejected and claims reinstated it doesn't help that his own attorney spends his time not defending Joe but complaining about how he interrupted for you and the man was trying to watch the latest episode of how my balls thus Joe is incarcerated Rita on the other hand is doing a tad better she may have no idea what's going on and what year it is but what matters to her is that she finds her pimp and paid the money she owes him there are nine thousand seven hundred and twenty-six listings for the grade please deposit two thousand dollars to begin connection two problems though that name isn't nearly as rare in the Year 2505 and it looks like she's going to have a hell of a lot of interest to pay him back fortunately she figures out that the population is so dim-witted they will gladly pay her today for a [ __ ] tomorrow they heard 10 million goddamn dollars Joe on the other hand is getting his hand jammed into a machine to have his identity properly tattooed on his wrist like it's supposed to be I'm not sure you have entered the name not sure is this correct not sure no it's not thank you not is correct see it's just like the voice recognition robots on the phone they'll understand you perfectly up until I have a problem with my account then it's I'm sorry can you repeat that I have a problem sucks therefore Joe quickly deducts a way to avoid his sentence um I'm actually supposed to be getting out of prison today sure you're in the wrong line dumbass over there I'm sorry I'm in a big dumb ass sorry it's like a microcosm of every stealth game made since 2008 this allows Joe to slip out but when they can't find his records on the computer he asked them to check in the back giving him the chance to escape of course escape doesn't mean too much considering he's still stuck in the air 2505 and a nightmare of idiocy that it is however remembering where it is he woke up in the first place he managed to get back in contact with frito and drill him for information easier said than done but according to frito there is a time machine Joe can use can you get me back to 2005 oh yeah but it's like really expensive and it breaks all the time cuz some smart guy made it a long time I don't care just get me there okay not sure how great of a solution that is though I mean yeah you go back and live your life in a more stable time period and your offspring is still kind of screwed frito does agree to help though after Joe slowly explains how interest works and that he could put money in a savings account so it'll be worth an ass load today unfortunately they can't calmly plan the trip to the time machine as the police have come to arrest not sure for escaping from prison on the plus side the brand new back doors still wide open allowing the two of them to escape and coincidentally enough run into Rita they pick her up and Joe explains the terrifying truth that they wound up 500 years in the future oh wait you're gonna kill me yes ma'am I'm a day late we have money so yo your boyfriend money well yeah he's sort of my manager to the subplot of Rita being afraid to run into upgrade place through most of the film and it doesn't really affect the plot in any major way but it is a nice reminder that while Joe is certainly smarter than everyone else on the planet at this time he's still pretty dumb considering Rita can convince him that she's actually a painter before long a random scan picks up on Jo's whereabouts and they must ditch the car and proceed on foot so as soon as they can get free to stop gawking at the base plosion that is the time machine is down at the local Costco which just so happens to be the size of a city itself still we've had quite a bit of movie of left so they can't just reach the time machine and be done with it therefore Rita has to slip from the group to use the bathroom and then while free to express this to Joe just how much you'd like to [ __ ] the [ __ ] out of her but consider the time machine cost money to use and they perform transactions by scanning the barcode anyway how exactly was he supposed to avoid this eventualities whatever the case Joe frito and Rita wind up completely separated as frito takes a shuttle Joe gets arrested yet again and Rita just avoids this entire situation however instead of going to prison this time Joe is brought to the White House turns out when he took the prison aptitude test he scored the highest of anyone in history and is therefore the smartest man in the world and it was requested that he be brought to the White House to meet president Camacho played by Terry [ __ ] Cruz so you smart huh no I thought you here would be bigger sorry the budget wasn't big enough to have everyone in the future walking around tiny heads also it made Joe looking around and seeing everyone with small heads but not figuring out exactly what's wrong right away a lot harder to swallow and it would make all the sexual advertising going on in the whole city really [ __ ] deserving President Cruz takes Joe to the house of representing for a State of the Union address it turns out they are facing many problems in the year 2505 the crops won't grow the economy is in the [ __ ] and everyone is too stupid to fix it until now with Joe here to help them he's sure that the things will be back on track in no time ah he's [ __ ] Joe's not letting the fact that he's never going to solve these problems fast enough get him down though with the powers he has as the Secretary of the Interior he manages to get back in contact with frito revealing his plan to not actually solve anything just get to the time machine and get the [ __ ] out of there before the week is up of course he has to look busy so they do go out to one of the crop fields so he can pretend to look for a solution uh yeah that sucks pretty bad Frida won't you come over here and take a load of this after all two heads are better than one even if one of them is Hollow obviously Joe doesn't actually want his advice with a map that frito has drawn to lead into the time machine soon after Rita arrives having been sent for by Joe he hopes to escape with her to the time machine so getting some alone time by pretending to be taking on other activities they check the map unfortunately as it was drawn by frito it's [ __ ] useless thing is on the way back to the group the sprinkler kicks on and reveals that the people have been watering the crops with Brando that's described as future gatorade the narrator pops in to explain the rest Rondo corporation simply bought the FDA and the FCC enabling them to say do and sell anything they wanted besides the general dumbing down of the population there's also the extreme commercialization of everything in the future entire branches of government are just owned by corporations which is totally different from the way it is in present day sighs I swear I hope point is this gives Joe the idea that he could actually solve this crisis very easily by changing the sprinkler system to spray water instead of rondo like out the toilet well I mean it doesn't have to be out of the toilet but but yeah that's the idea but Brando's got what plants crave it's got electrolytes which is a very difficult sell to make when the people you're talking to you don't actually think about what they're saying to you they just regurgitate slogans back and forth again totally totally unlike today eventually they do go through with Joe's plan changing out all the sprinklers from Bronto to toilet water problem is by the next day they're ready to kill Joe to the fact that decrease in the demand for Bronto so much caused half the country to lose their jobs another court case later and Joe has been sentenced to one night of rehabilitation unfortunately for him in the year 2505 Monday night rehabilitation is less public service and more Smash TV Joe's gonna have to go up against two giant monster trucks with friggin drills and jackhammers I found him to [ __ ] as well as one gigantic massive eyes okay just the two giant monster trucks while he has a considerably less impressive ride when joining a competitive free-to-play multiplayer gaming being like oh yeah I don't think I really need to spend money back at the White House really can't bear to watch Joe be rehabilitated into sloppy joe but what is this somehow a plant has grown and flowered like within 24 hours no [ __ ] idea how but this gives Rita a chance to save Joe can you get me over there [ __ ] mom for the rehabilitation wait promise she also has to count on frito for this as well therefore Joe has to hold his own against the monster trucks for a while especially considering when Rita gets there she tries to tell president Camacho about the crops growing but he didn't see them so he doesn't care what she says he's trying to watch Monday night rehabilitation thus she must come up with a new plan have frito take a cameraman back to the growing crops while she hijacks the control room and they don't need you outside immediately think about your horrors in the hallway hey therefore barring a few minor issues along the way Rita is able to prove to everyone watching that there are crops growing there's crops growing everywhere I have no idea what the hell they put in the toilet water in the future but I suggest we start using it now cuz damn fortunately Joe managed to survive long enough that Terry Crews jumps down there just in time to give him a presidential pardon meaning we go from everyone trying to kill him to everyone celebrating his ingenuity in solving the food crisis he still wants to go home but people still can't figure out how to solve the other problems the best idea to fix the economy is put toilet water on it therefore Joe decides he's going to stay here and forget about the time machine sucks anyways ride turns out he was actually never able to go back in time anyway because the thing was no more than a carnival attraction and I'm personally pretty sure we're never gonna be able to go back in time at any point in the future anyway is just never gonna invent it well how can I be so sure of this how many [ __ ] from the future do you know nevertheless happy ending Joe becomes the new President of the United States Rita becomes the first lady and together they have three averagely smart kids only problem is Frida had like four score from seven different hoes and in the depths of the after credit scene we learn the horrifying truth but upgrade has come to the Future and we'll be trying to collect his money for amorita not that it really matters it's not like it's gonna be a sequel to this anyway it's unfortunate but true anyway that was idiocracy and it's pretty funny when it's not scary as [ __ ] idiocracy is an often-quoted science fiction story as it presents a more dystopian future but not in the dreary dark sense of 1984 but more lighthearted tones it's a fun movie to laugh at for how silly a lot of it is but at the same time you can understand how things got to where they are and understand that while comedic the film doesn't depict the future in a positive light as science fiction goes though I have to commend idiocracy for doing what a lot of low-budget sci-fi flicks failed to do or completely forget to even try to accomplish that being creating a complete believable world yes the backdrops obviously not really effects leave a lot to be desired but they are consistent on how they present the setting and best of all it does not look like downtown Los Angeles even the clothes while very simple and very low-budget say a lot about the setting and culture of the future and the present everything is disposable shiny fabric and while work clothes just list your job on the chest casual clothes are loaded with advertisements idiocracy does extremely well for itself as a social commentary as a science fiction film and a comedy and simply is an entertaining movie in general there are parts that could be better like the quality of the special effects and the crops growing in 24 hours after being watered but honestly I feel the lower budget hurt the movie more than the questionable fertilizer power and overall I feel it's a solid for full body lattes out of 5 it's just a shame it wasn't marketed better and released to more theaters my [ __ ] Fox didn't even release a goddamn blu-ray of this movie you think it's popular enough yet guys gone anyway thank you
