[Music] so oh so foreign [Music] you [Music] [Music] so so [Laughter] so oh two so [Applause] [Music] [Laughter] so do [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause] okay uh you you foreign [Music] and [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] okay you [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] so you so [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] um [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Laughter] [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] you yes you okay [Music] so foreign so so so ah [Applause] um [Music] [Music] so uh [Music] so so [Applause] [Music] [Applause] so so [Music] so [Music] okay [Music] okay you before we cut the cheese i need to talk for a moment about why this is called a computing cheese cutter and not just your regular everyday cheese cutter this thing was way more complex than i originally thought and it's actually incredibly genius so now that i fully understand the relationship between these two levers i can tell you what they do this scale here from 15 to 36 represents the original weight of your wheel of cheese if you begin with the full wheel or if you're using a smaller chunk you need to set it to that original size so you set that let's say 30 for whatever reason and then you can select the appropriate price sheet for that specific type of cheese that you're about to sell and then the numbers here go all the way up to one pound and these are ounces i believe so four ounce eight ounce twelve ounce and zero ounces here you can set that selection and if i do just four ounces there this thing has now moved exactly four ounces worth of cheese and if i wanted all the way to one pound it would know that it's one pound just through the relationship the mathematical relationship of the levers underneath this machine so it knows in the sense that math exists in this universe it's incredibly incredibly cool and i could not wait to cut cheese with it so i have here a wheel of asiago cheese that was originally uh nine kilograms so almost 20 pounds so i'm gonna set this to 20 pounds maybe a little bit less to see if we can get a little more accurate and then i'm going to cut a slice and see if it actually weighs the appropriate amount now i'm going to line this up accordingly nice against the blade there i am going to set this i guess at zero when that blade was down and now i will take a eight ounce cut out of this wheel of cheese and let's see if it does it i'm gonna hold this down because i'm not entirely sure if my fingers are gonna die oh i let this sit out on the counter a bit so it's softer than it needs to be i guess oh let's take the cheese very nice very wedge shaped excellently cut i have my scale here is it what it needs to be amazing amazing you

FYI if you happen to see similar when wandering antique or junk stores and ponder buying one, be sure and check diligently.

Certain countries seem to have expert counterfeiters of antiques. One can often spot these because suddenly, several stores seem to magically have one or more of the item where they were rare or even non-existent before--they may possibly be darned good copies and usually presented as the real deal, not reproductions.

After virtually never seeing a cheese cutter like this except extremely rarely, I suddenly saw 3 of them in 2 different antique stores in the same week. Might be coincidence, might be repros disguised as the real thing.

So...look twice before plonking your money down if one of these appeals to you.

Another common one that is faked overseas are carbide miner's lamps.

We have a show in the Uk called Repair Shop which focuses on the loving restoration of items like this along with a touching story usually about its connections to the people that once owned them. Total sucker for this kind of thing.
