I Went to a Maid Cafe (Akihabara) 🇯🇵 Tokyo, Japan

oh it's really good oh it's too it's super good yeah this is underneath the metro station [Music] oh look at this look at this you 've bins of old games like this is a Nintendo 64 game part of the history of Japan is that it was isolationist for many years meaning that it was very hard in fact almost impossible to immigrate to Japan and equally as hard to get visas now that situation has changed I wouldn't call immigrating to Japan today easy but it's much easier than before and there are options the Visa situation is very convenient and easy for me as an American it was very easy for me to hop off a plane and get 90 days here however I bring this up because part of this history that Japan has in being very isolated and going through that kind of period of time is that it has led to a very unique culture in fact there is no other culture like Japanese culture and a big part of that culture is Anime and video games and so today I'm going to akihabra which is Japan's anime and electronics Center so join me as we go there I'm very excited now I'm if you can see here I'm wearing my special uh devil Hunter oversized t-shirt that I bought from uh Uniqlo in Taipei now one of the other interesting things about Akihabara is there are places called maid cafes now this is not a place where anything like nefarious happens but rather it is a place where you can sit down and have a meal and basically a maid serves you a very attractive woman in a Maids outfit serves you so that's basically what a maid Cafe is it's overpriced the food is mediocre but you're paying for the experience of being served and waited on by a maid so I'm sure we'll see some Maids here so when I see one I will Point them out to you now I'm staying at an Airbnb in taito city which is it's about an 18 minute walk 15 depending on where you want to place yourself in Akihabara but it's right it sits right above Akihabara and very affordable price I think I'm paying somewhere around 70 a night for the room which for Japan is very affordable and yes actually it might be a little bit less my total nightly stay on average is 79 here in Japan so I I was pretty happy that I was able to keep that at that price now the room I'm staying in is very small very very small but it has everything I need and I could have taken the Metro here instead of walking 15 20 minutes but I prefer to walk when I can though I am getting kind of like to the main stretch here in fact I'm on the main stretch here in Akihabara ooh Japanese local Fried Chicken that looks good oh you can see the bins of resume used vintage cameras here this one is uh 14 000 Yen which is like less without I'm sure some of these work some of them need work my Nikon over here wow in the case I'm sure in the shop it's even cooler it seems like Sony camcorder here Sony Handycam these are old old school so gives you an idea of it's a quick glimpse of what you can maybe find here in uh like a hopper oh my God I'm gonna have so much fun I'm gonna come here another day when I'm not filming but we're gonna get into a lot in this video don't worry don't you worry so right down there was that camera shop which was very cool by the way I just I don't need a camera I have one but you walk just a little bit here and then you've got uh sandisks and I think inside they're like hired tier Electronics oh like here's a MacBook Air right earbuds or airpods iPhones yeah so this is uh we're kind of like okay so there's a maid by the way so we've got a probably a maid cafe around here somewhere uh yeah like right here St Universe Cafe and bar Starry Sky Sparkle you can see and uh yeah so so yeah this is like uh it's like obviously the anime cultural center of Japan but it's also electric town which is down here a bit we're gonna go down there I'm very excited for that which is where you can find Electronics used uh 8-bit video games like old school systems here you can get a look at like figurines for sale anime figurines is one piece Dragon Ball Z stretching my knowledge he has Demon Slayer maybe I don't know I'm stretching my knowledge but then there's like Pokemon stuff I think I can film in here here's Hunter Hunter this is my favorite anime of all time and my favorite character but you can see oh I'm tempted I just don't have the bag space spy family which is very popular so yeah here is chainsaw man which is the shirt that I'm wearing if there's chainsaw man um one of my favorites demons layer as well Pokemon vending machines so cool so cool so cool I'm really just a gen 1 and 2 Pokemon guy because I'm 30 at this point three years old so I haven't kept up with the Pokemon stuff but anyway okay and so I've walked onto my first place here so look at this guys so on the rack you've got a PlayStation one PlayStation two a super famicom a GameCube I forget what this one is that was before my time but I remember I was seven years old playing a PlayStation one and look at this you've just got bins of old games like this is a Nintendo 64 game for 200 yen again that's like a dollar or just over a dollar I mean you could just sit through here and sort through all of this like you've got these old school Game Boy games for probably not much okay this is like just over a dollar this is less than a dollar whatever games look at this now here's the thing who knows if any of these work there's thrown into a game they might not work oh it's possible that none of these games work okay especially because they're like a dollar or a dollar fifty to buy these but it's cool it is so cool here are the games that I'm sure do work because they're in the case and they're a bit more expensive oh look and then okay look no operation guaranteed okay so these are as is items so this is seven dollars but again it's not guaranteed to work foreign now if you're somebody who's very good at soldering or fixing things up you could come in here and make quite a bit of money because these sell for a lot on uh at least eBay in the United States now let's see like how much is this okay so like these seem to be games that are operational and clean and working I don't know they don't have prices on them so I don't know if I really want to find out you can see just how cool this shop is all the games like a wall okay so like here are operational games I'm assuming these are much more expensive and again I do not play video games anymore so I don't know what the going rate is for any of this stuff I played as a kid I know I can't tell you if this is overpriced or not but 1500 yen is ten dollars so you can get the idea here these are all going to be Japanese games course oh which console is a region like we tell you this means you can play Anywhere that's very helpful so yeah if you want to buy this a working copy and you want to make sure that it's working uh less than ten dollars for that so very cool controllers on the wall oh my gosh this is so cool yes this is so cool and then you've even got the box here even got the box ones here that's feels like it's not a bad price I don't know again I have no idea I don't I'm not in this world anymore I was very much in this world as a kid but no no more but I'm going to really enjoy this day reliving my childhood here that is for sure so this store has a very cool walkway so as you walk up here there's all this like fan or no like memorabilia old school memorabilia on the wall well there's Mortal Kombat foreign workstation here so nice so nice it looks like you can play here if you want or maybe not I don't know but wow you can see it's a very Foreigner friendly place right many people here from all over the world come to Akihabara to experience this okay let me tell you something guys I'm very lucky I did not come here as a kid and by a kid I mean in my 20s because I would have spent all my money here in Akihabara that is for sure but Time Marches on and so does this video so guys you can see it's not just video games and Anime there's also like used uh iPad Pros here but you can see there's just so many different versions of the iPad Pros you've got used iPhones as well the percentage is the battery percentage that has 60 or 86 left on battery which is seen as a good sign and yeah okay you can even see they give it a ranking here d-rank okay so you probably don't want to buy d-rank I don't know but that would bring the price down considerably I assume you can see the price marked on it so 2500 is around 170 or 25 000 yen is around 170 so that's a pretty good price for an iPhone right here's a rank so that's considerably more double the price but again 170 dollars for an iPhone that's pretty darn good so for example here there are a few phones that are very cheap like this these iPhone 8s are like 75 to 80 dollars uh for for a phone so and even cheaper if you want a seven those are pretty old phones at this point but if you need it it's available well we're here look so many cafes all over the place we are in the hearts of akihabra of electric down here I'm getting so hungry guys hope I don't uh resort to a maid Cafe but who knows anyway there's also like literal places where you can play video games here I think these are like um uh Korean games yeah crane games but I think if you go up a floor something here fascinating culture there's no culture like Japanese culture none this is unique that's what I was saying in the beginning of this video for playing the games here okay let's take a look at the floor guide okay claw games Network games you can play PC games play music games to play retro games oh you can play with other people it's on like a land yeah okay it's on a land so you can play with other people so like these these two play together I can't read Japanese so the games I'm gonna skip that because copyright like dancing it's Revolution like that here's the Retro yeah so you've got all these really cool uh nostalgic games here like Sega outrun oh no uh you can even order a cup noodles area so this is sick it was on the last floor oh it's empty okay High School is empty staff owner it seems like the land the network game seemed to be the most popular apparently from what I've read they're like a ton of ton of shops all over akihabra so yeah there was the sixth floor Game Center I just went to and then you walk just a little bit and here is hey hi Rose entertainment yard same idea I believe hope we got another vlogger here and I think there's another oh there's something else here as well and then you just walk a little bit more and here's another geeko I guess is how it's pronounced jijo I don't know but wow this is fascinating and I've only walked this side of Aki Abra also this side and there's like a million other side streets here as well oh we've got small you know what I did read that like under maybe this is the ad this is the area okay maybe this is it under the Metro there are old school shops here which you can see and yes I watched this other YouTuber called Tokyo lens yes I do think this is where he goes so I've seen him uh highlight or display this area here in Tokyo yeah it's like these are smaller older shops mom and pop shops have been around for a long time and this is right under the Metro from what I understand yeah I definitely highly recommend Tokyo Wednesday's Channel he does really good he does really good stuff he actually preserved one of these shops I think this is where it is so yeah it just was over here you saw me and then you can see they're just rows and rows of these amazing shops here I think maybe there's even a bigger one over here looks like we've got like a Pokemon or a card center or something like this I guess there's a one piece card game now really into collectibles but all this Pokemon memorabilia there are even Pokemon vending machines or card vending machines here really cool and juxtaposed we have a KFC another probably the same video game story but yeah if you need some late night Fried Chicken you can pick it up right there from all that gaming so yeah this is just insanely fascinating yeah so this is where I politely ask you to hit got like cards here and stuff oh like different cars things like that anime memorabilia but look so this is cool it's underneath the Metro I think this is what I was referring to earlier yeah this is underneath the metro station [Music] look at this oh I don't know if you could hear that but the train tracks just or the train just went by so a mix of old school Electronics anime figures Pokemon cards even walkie-talkies yes old school Electronics wow okay guys well this one made dreaming I think that's it this I'm allowed to take photo videos of myself so I think double check to make sure I'm in the same I'm in the right place I think I will indeed go to a maid Cafe I was going to maybe do a separate video on this but yeah maybe we'll go so six uh I think this is where it is [Music] okay okay [Applause] foreign [Music] [Applause] I'm really glad I did that because there's nothing like uh there's nothing like that you will ever experience in your life a maid Cafe so I would say do it okay there's nothing nefarious obviously it's not like uh I think foreigners would probably think of something bad but it's just what you see it what you think it is which is being served decent food by very attractive women and you can do extras like you can get a photo taken and it was really fun I would definitely recommend it I was not sure how to handle it because it was I was a bit uncomfortable because like when you order you say meow meow so that was probably the most uncomfortable thing for me which is like they're like when they give you a drink you have to like do a whole ritual like I'd like clap my hands and like say meow meow to drink before I could drink the drink so that was a very interesting experience but yeah I was I was a bit uncomfortable but the whole thing cost me 32 dollars so I would say definitely definitely 32 well spent I will say the the chicken katsu it was pretty good it was pretty good I have to tell you guys there's a serious Work Hard Play Hard culture here in uh Tokyo not just in Akihabara but certainly in Shinjuku but you can see there's like literally a beer pong bar here which looks really fun you can throw darts I've noticed that darts is very popular here um and there's also like a casino over there air quotes Casino I don't think foreigners are allowed in and I don't know how to speak Japanese but I would love to play some 21 so blackjack right now I just don't think I could get in there I gotta be careful about filming I feel bad because some people are like seeing me with the camera and putting like this on their face I don't know okay so this I was really not expecting but the unassuming anime shop turned into a sixth floor porn store so yeah I was not I was not ready for that okay let's go for one of these crepes I'm not trying to figure out how to eat this but uh I think you just go in for it oh it's so sweet definitely custardy definitely lots of whipped cream definitely what I needed take a look at this vending machine here King's treasure I don't know vending machine that makes streams come true 1000 yen gotcha gotcha so it's uh you can gamble for seven dollars I'm good I don't have the bag space but in theory you could win a uh Playstation 2. this is um interesting guys I've never experienced anything like akihabra where one minute you're digging through crates looking at uh childhood memories the video games you used to play another minute you're being enticed to go into a maid Cafe and a third minute you're randomly walking into full stop porn stores yeah this is why I said at the beginning of this video there's no culture like Japanese culture it's Unique you can't find this anywhere in the world so yeah definitely recommend you put this on your Japan list
