okay so the Venture resolve studio is 295 right and the Blackmagic design speed editor is 395 But it includes the vure resolve Studio I mean that kind of sounds like one of the best deals in the world right but is it well I've been using the speed Editor to edit my videos for a few weeks now before that I was using just my keyboard and mouse and so the big question now is is this thing any good is it worth spending an extra hundred bucks to get the Vinci resolve studio and the speed editor I'll also show you what my work FL looks like now and I'll tell you what you can and can do with a speed editor but first let's take but first let's take a look at this thing it's very sturdy apparently oops sorry black magic design it's totally fine okay let's take a look at this thing so it is very sturdy and it looks nice it feels nice I think that it's all plastic but it definitely doesn't feel cheap at all it's also a mechanical keyboard now I've always been a bit skeptical about mechanical keyboards and well mainly about the people who love them a bit too much sometimes if you know what I mean but actually I do like the mechanical Keys too not that I prefer them over membrane keys but they do feel nice yeah just remember that if like me you also have a membrane keyboard and you use it in combination with a speed editor it will feel a little bit different because that's the first important thing you should know you can't edit a whole video with just the speed editor you have to combine it with a normal keyboard and if you don't like that well maybe you should get the DaVinci Resolve editor keyboard but I really don't mind the combination also both my keyboard and the speed editor have wireless connection so switching between them is easy and comfortable but the big question and what you're all here for probably is does this thing make your editing go faster because it is called the speed editor after all well first things first look even though you can use the speed editor in the edit page it's actually designed to be used in the cut page and if like me you're not used to the cut page it's going to take a few weeks to find your way around then learn how it works but that's normal and you know the more I use it the more I appreciate it the more I like it for certain parts of my editing workflow and it's mainly because of one thing this thing here the jog wheel just that thing makes the speed editor worth it for me I love the jog wheel I mean scrolling through the timeline using the jog wheel in the cut page it just feels smoother and more accurate and more enjoyable but you know what I'll show you what my workflow looks like now for a video like this so a talking head video with lots of a roll and then some b roll on top and remember I used to do everything in the edit page but now I've moved a part of my workflow to the cut page the first part where I remove all the parts that I don't need so I dropped my a-roll on the timeline and I use the wheel to scroll or jog through the timeline jog means that you can go slower and more accurate and then I split Clips with a split key and used Ripple elit to easily remove Parts I don't need and once I have my rough Cuts I can find you in the cuts using the wheel and Trim in and trim out keys but am I editing faster now than before well no actually now it's definitely not going slower and my muscle memory is still reprogramming itself you know so I'm pretty sure that the more I use it the more videos I edit the smoother and the faster it'll go but you know what the speed is actually not what makes the speed editor worth it for me no they should rename it to the Comfort editor or something like that because it makes editing more comfortable and more enjoyable and maybe that's even more important wait wait wait before we go on guys I just know that some of you are still looking for great music well say no more and check out audio the sponsor of this video great music super nice people what more do you want right they have acoustic electronic hip hop Soul Rock and oh yeah of course cinematic you name it they have it you can also add songs to your favorites browse through playlists huh Beast beats that sounds interesting or just make your own playlists and right now you can still get a lifetime subscription so unlimited downloads literally until you die for $199 until the end of February just use my link and code in the description okay and now back to the speed editor there's something about editing with the jog wheel and and then those mechanical Keys scrolling through the timeline is also a lot smoother and more accurate in the cut page like I don't know I feel like it doesn't skip as many frames when you scroll fast for example and you don't have to zoom in and out constantly like in the edit page it just works it feels good it makes sense in here does that make sense and then for my b-roll I have my b-roll ready in a media pool and then with the source key the wheel and in andout keys I can set in andout points for each Boll click clip then drop them on the timeline and even slide them to the correct position and then when I'm done in the cut page I just go to the edit page and add my text animate the titles animations do some finetuning and then color grading of course in the color page so all the different parts of my workflow now each have their own page in Dent resolve and it all makes sense I understand now why the cut page is there and why it's the first page or the second page it's because that's the V resolve workflow they show it at the bottom First Media pool then cut page then edit page fusion color Fair light and Export and I'm pretty sure that you know again by spending more time in the cut page with the speed editor figuring out how everything works eventually everything will go faster so if you get one make sure that you force yourself to use it in the beginning because if you already have a workflow with shortcuts and everything it will take a while to reprogram everything in here so give yourself some time it'll take a few weeks to really understand and appreciate this thing don't give up too soon that's a mistake that I've also made a lot of times in the past now all that being said there are also a few small problems and the first one is that well I don't know if it really is like that or if I've missed something but it seems like there's no Ripple trim to playhead key and well that's a shortcut that I normally use hundreds of times every day so in the beginning I was struggling a bit with that because my brain and my my hands kept looking for for the Ripple trim to play Ahad key and it's not there but I've gotten used to it now and I've just accepted that I have to keep that shortcut for the edit page where I use my normal keyboard you know it's also not slowing me down at all once you get used to the wheel and the keys that are available it's totally fine and then another problem or well it's not really a problem but you see that middle section here the whole section as you can see is designed for multicam editing and well I almost never do multicam editing so it feels like a lot of wasted space they could have used that space for a big Ripple trim to playhead button maybe but yeah so I mean it's not really a problem just an observation and it might give you the impression that it's designed purely for multicam editors but that's not true I recommend it to everyone beginners multicam editors but also content creators like me who don't edit multicam and again all because of one thing the jog wheel that thing makes it worth it so if you were already planning to buy a studio license and you have an extra hundred bucks go for it it really is a great deal now if you already have a studio license well I still recommend it especially if you edit a lot of videos and then I don't know maybe you can sell the license but if you can't afford it guys remember it's not a necessity to make great videos it won't make your videos 10 times better all of a sudden so definitely don't spend money on this money that you need for other things like food or beer you know the bare necessities um but yeah it just makes your workflow more efficient and more enjoyable that's it thank you so much for watching and see you in the next one
