I Tried 100 Wedding Dresses

a few years ago Garrett proposed to me in a very extravagant and unexpected way and now that we are starting to plan our wedding I have felt that choosing a wedding dress is my chance to finally surprise him back because Garrett won't see the dress until the day of the wedding and so I have recruited my friends and family to help me find the perfect dress to impress a portion of this video is have I ever been married no does it matter no I did a music video where I actually got to wear a bunch of different bridal gowns from India and this one was my favorite oh it's a two-piece open bag really pretty it's like an off-white but still has like the beating and a traditional gold work and so on yeah definitely my goal is to take the traditional western wedding dress and the traditional Indian lenga and smash them together to try and find the perfect midpoint of the two to represent and honor both sides of my family oh my God you had one behind the counter like ready this piece actually just came in um it's absolutely stunning stunning work on it it's in an off-white base yeah oh my God this is so crazy what are your expectations for this dress mom for her to look gorgeous my name is Laura and I'm Michelle's mom I'm here today to help her decide on a dress or just partake in the fun oh my God gosh oh my gosh how beautiful is just so beautiful Michelle do a little spin oh my gosh can I do the thing that they do in the bridal shows where they're like you know they like do this thing it's so weird to see myself in a wedding dress yeah I don't know the ring feel a little heavier right now it Sparkles though seem to check all the boxes but for some reason I wasn't wowed oh that is so gorgeous Michelle oh my gosh [Music] wow it's a little easier to move around in you want to do a dance test Bring It Around Town and this the Pata is also really pretty because it's really it's like a heavier the puta too and has really nice tassels with it a traditional Indian linga consists of three parts the langa a long embroidered skirt the choli a midriff bearing blouse cut to fit tightly to the body and the dupata a pleated shawl that can be worn in a variety of ways including as a veil Indian bridal lingas are traditionally red to represent New Beginnings love passion and prosperity however I've been trying on white lingas as a way to incorporate the western style personally I prefer their organza and I like the sparkle on the other dress I don't know there's something about I love the sparkly on them yeah I would say most of the brides that we work with are pretty stressed out this is such an important day for them they're not okay with settling for something really small or settling for something that's nice they want the perfect thing for them so that poses to be a really stressful situation because how do you find the perfect outfit wow [Music] [Music] this is my favorite one I like really love the color I love all of the work on this first organza yeah yeah I keep looking at it I really feel like this is like the midpoint of Western and Indian this was my favorite lenga thus far but I still wasn't fully sold so we decided to continue the search by heading to lovella Bridal a more traditionally western dress shop to see if we could find that perfect midpoint dress what makes lavella so unique is our over 6 000 square foot space we feature a really really large selection of designers so Brides travel from all over to see everything Under One Roof wow yeah she's confused confused wasn't understatement because this was the First dress I tried on that had been completely different from what I originally imagined you look like what a whole woman so what do we love about it what do we hate about it or do we love everything about it I love that it hugs me and that it's like fitted at the waist I'm just like in awe of how well you carry Sparkle because like not everyone I love Sparkle I don't think I'm a huge fan of the collar I kind of agree the neckline feels a little like Victorian in a way almost not even Victoria it just feels a little like heavy um I'm thinking of October what the weather's gonna be like are you gonna be a little cold I'm not worried about Sunset I'm worried about how I'm gonna look Mom yes I often find that Brides actually end up picking the complete opposite of what they came in showing me that they wanted I would say like one out of ten Brides actually ends up buying what she came in thinking she wanted seeing the potential benefits of being more open-minded I decided to try on a few wild cards oh my God I think I might need a strap because I'm not Genetically Enhanced in this area enough I don't think at the end of the first day I had determined that from the Western shopping experience I loved the fitted mermaid look deep V and classic white and from the Indian designers I liked the multi-piece langa and of course Sparkle okay Mom what do you think bedazzled nipples are they bedazzled I still had not found the dress So channeling my inner Leo instead of sitting down to pause and reflect on everything I took the approach up more is better over the next year I tried on an estimated 100 bridal gowns and with our wedding date continually being pushed because of the pandemic I had plenty of time to think procrastinate and backtrack what do you do with a leg slit do you just like yeah you hold yourself up I'm getting like nightgown Vibes almost haunting haunted I could be haunting you I can make decisions I'm proud are you indecisive well Garrett's really helpful okay there's no Gareth here today so far have you gotten any like strong sure you know like any spiritual experiences yet we'll keep going we're getting closer though yeah I feel it next they all just kind of like blend together does anyone else feel that way these are all the choices for fabric just a few okay we need a little luck here okay she looks expensive you know what I mean you look like gowns I still felt no closer to finding that perfect midpoint dress mostly because I was so committed to finding a hybrid white Indian inspired gown that was until I visited shyamal and bhumika a very entertain the idea of a traditional red dress it's so sparkly I love the Sparkles I love the Sparkles it's honestly just kind of weird to see myself in red dress and like in a dress that is similar to the one mom wore at your wedding I can't decide if I'm if I should wear a white or a red gown now you know yeah can you imagine this in white I don't know that it would have the same effect it's two totally different effects yeah white is meant to be humble and pure and this is like power well I do like looking powerful I don't mind that but this is still a really emotional experience it feels really connected to like dadima and and you and what you were at your wedding yeah you do look a lot like Mom like seeing myself as as all of these other powerful women in my family being mixed race I have consistently existed in a strange liminal space as the intersection of my family's two cultures not wide enough to be considered white and not Indian enough to be fully Indian seeing myself in the traditional red attire made me feel like I was a part of something I had always existed awkwardly on the outskirts of at my wedding I had wanted to incorporate the culture of my soon-to-be husband and then I also wanted to bring my own personal culture into his life so we had two separate weddings I knew I didn't want to do two full separate ceremonies and so I started looking into the Modern Trend of brides having two outfits one for the ceremony and one for the reception now typically the second outfit is a bit more casual or easier to dance in but I thought what if I wore a white Western gown for the ceremony and then as a complete surprise to the guests revealed a second outfit a fully blinged out red Indian linga for the reception this would allow me to fully honor each side of my family and give each culture the space to shine individually by rather than trying to force them into one like I feel like I have my whole life so I went back to the stores I visited a year and a half prior to make my final decisions for the Indian linga I loved the color of the last red dress I tried on but wanted to change the cut and so I found what I believed to be the dress but in purple oh man oh very beautiful oh my gosh oh my God yeah oh I'm obsessed with the way that looks that's so cool this is gonna be the dress right this is what it feels like but just like red I maybe I think maybe maybe maybe maybe it's tough to beat yeah and because you can also have like like jewels and these Sparkle Town Sparkle town please dance hey Mom you're here with Daniel and everyone we're filming right now and I wanted to show you um what I think is a really incredible dress now there's a disclaimer it's purple but you have to imagine it in red imagine it in red imagine it in this color okay oh my Lord oh my God okay ready that is so beautiful wow it's so classic you know me I just love classic things it's just gorgeous look at this legit princess [Music] how exciting this is so cool I think Garrett's gonna really love it oh he's gonna lose it this is it this is this is it yeah I am going to have to do something I never thought it was gonna have to do which is pick a dress and order it without seeing it in the color and though I am incredibly nervous just hoping that the dress will look good with all of the modifications including the color being completely different I had to trust this was the right choice and would turn out okay when I will receive the dress in a few months and as far as the Western gown because I was finally able to allow myself the freedom to explore the classic white western style I quickly zeroed in on what I wanted and our reaction says it all sorry I'm screaming this is I don't even want to touch it oh and it's so sparkly Michelle like you want it no yeah and the only thing left was to wait for the wedding day itself to surprise Garrett with not one but two wedding dresses if you want to see how the final dresses and our full
