I Tricked a Nigerian Scammer into FaceTiming Me

save four point five million dollars as a loyal viewer to trilogy media thankfully john was already privy to these kinds of online scams and thankfully did not fall for their tricks but he did send us the email to see if we could take it a step further let's take a closer look at this email and see if we can track down the criminal behind the keyboard brother are you ready i'm ready let's do it [Music] subject line your urgent reply is needed looks like very origin capital origin and everything and it came from western union email contact western.union.money.transfer11 outlook.com email reads welcome to western union uae address dubai fast easy reliable moneygram fast dot is moneygram a different company why would they put money gram in their western union description doesn't make any sense it's like it's already fishing it's like uber and leaves right uber sending you but they said hey your sketch line is fast easy reliable lift lift dear beneficiary i have sent you several notices concerning the claim of your benefit that was paid to you as compensation from the united nations board following my petition my petition against the government as a human right human rights activist he's not right he only actually won the right he's only an activist for one right uh to compensate you with the sum of 4.5 million usd go to any nearest western union or moneygram money transfer outlet nearest to you and send the fee to enable you to have full access over your fund note that 99 is the only fee you will pay to start receiving your fund be rest assured that you will receive your first payment today if you make the payment today let's talk about the red flags because even before we've done anything with this we already can spot that this is a scam right off the bat in many different shapes and forms first of all the urgency that's a big red flag for them to push you to act fast you you you owe me um second is the email address this is a dead giveaway and you should always anytime you get an email that you think may possibly not be legitimate is don't take their word for it when they put like this right here says western union uh is the name but anyone can put whatever name of their of their sender right what you always want to do is make sure you expand all the information and see the actual email address it's coming from is in this case it's it's not western union at all it's something at outlook anybody can open outlook anyone can open gmail so they're posing as another company so that's another big red flag most importantly is the fact that you're being promised money um and that they're asking you for money to receive that money so always be on the lookout give me your money before i'm gonna give my money so i sent a reply from my ryan benson email account um very very short just inquiring so i emailed to perfect example you can see my from is ryan benson but i can change this to be anything i want but then this is my gmail ryan b so i can't change that so you always want to do the drop down arrow and see who is sending you an email what the actual email address is so anyway i sent an email to western.union blah blah blah blah outlook.com i love them very simple hi there how long will it take to get my payment so we gotta reply welcome again welcome to western union uae in dubai in dubai is the western union even located in dubai uh where is actually what you say what is headquarters of western union uh denver colorado so they're not in dubai so that's another dead giveaway is that american company yeah that's what i thought before we proceed you are required to send us your information to enable you start receiving your payments immediately space period when you see this many grammatical errors in an email from official company look nothing against anyone it isn't english their first language but if they're claiming to be a company that you're very familiar with in the united states and their grammar is this bad um red flag be very careful so be advised to send us your full information now to avoid wrong transfer of your fund such as so many things wrong with that sentence who's wrong so they want my name address country phone number occupation and a lot of times they do this because they want to make it feel legitimate and then also the more information they have about you the more social they can you remember uh i said please send me a text message at the earliest convenience so we can settle this up from a 606 number hi ryan benton good morning to you this is dr robson walton from western union head office the text now subscriber you are trying to reach is not available another thing to mention um text now it's something very much uh worth explaining text now is a very legitimate app it's a free app that you can use for sending text messages uh from a different phone number however text now is used by scammers all the time so if you're calling a phone number and they're claiming to be like a legitimate company and you get a voicemail that says the text now number is not it's not available huge red flags nothing against the company no but it's good it's just but they are somehow not doing a good enough job about mitigating and keeping track of who's actually using their service because scammers use this all the time it was later that night that dr robson reached out to me via text message it's very common for them to communicate late at night because oftentimes they're overseas this one felt a little bit different however as dr robson was very patient and very willing to put in the time to actually get to know me we can already tell that this guy has been scamming for a long time he's got charm charisma and works very hard to earn my trust in order for this scam bait to work i have to match his patience and keep him on the hook so that he fully believes that i'm ready to pay up for my winnings i can also make in the meantime a tracking link a little ip grabber and then he wants itunes cards maybe i tell him i got the apple card yeah we'll see let's just leave it at that and see what he says and then okay got his attention i will show you come uh talk to me here zoom link so i can show you in person the back of the card let's proceed immediately before our office close that's another red flag they always always want you to act fast okay i'm a text that says click to expand yeah it's linked to the ip grabber hopefully he won't think about it he'll just click it and that way we'll know his ip and where he actually is okay so i'm going to first add a little blur and then i'm going to make it much smaller like 10 i'm gonna drag it into the email and we're gonna make this real tiny photo um click to enlarge and we're going to link it to game it's always like this it's always come with jerry a lot of back and forth a lot of just what seems like nothing happening until you get it and then it's like it's worth it did you get it i need your location i have your face i have everything about you we got millions of people that have watched us and we're going to show all of them who you are what do you think about that i'm not i'm i and dreams and they will put in as much work as it possibly takes to keep you on the hook and eventually get what they want from you if you ever receive a suspicious email like this one from western union here is what you need to look out for promise of money large amount of money huge red flag anyone that says that you're a beneficiary to uh you know a donation a lottery a scam reimbursement even we've seen they always want to play on your hopes and dreams and it'll just be a small fee that they want from you to activate the transfer big red flag source email make sure you check in the email anytime you receive an email there's a little drop down next to the name of the sender that'll actually tell you the exact email address it came from and here's the thing to remember anybody can put whatever name they want as the sender in this case he put western union or director of western union anything that they want to put you want to make sure you hit the drop down button to see the actual email address that the email came from in this case we can see it came from an outlook.com email definitely a big red flag showing that that is not indeed western union headquarters no it's not urgency if somebody gonna let you know that you have to make decision right here right now time is now you're gonna get arrested or you have to something happen to you this is huge red flag take a pause step back talk to your friend friends brothers sisters your family your neighbors anybody scammers want you to to act fast they don't want you to think clearly they don't want you to think rational they don't want other parties coming in and intervening and stopping them from getting what they want from you so take a moment stop breathe and if they're rushing you big red flag i'm ashton
