Please note that this website is currently a work in progress! Lots of interesting data and statistics to come.
This was super, super fun and painted such a realistic picture of what figure skating is and can be for people (especially adults) starting out in the sport! Just awesome all around, and Marsha won my heart over c:
Michelle's tweet about the project, please share it!Edit: Waking up and finding out what a predatory person Eisler is from this video is a disappointment. I removed the tweet to share it but i'm leaving the post up since this is a place that shines a light on the problematic nature of Lloyd Eisler and his participation in the video.
I just started watching but I had to comment.... why didnβt they get her proper skates to start with????
Also Iβm just gonna put this here because itβs funny... (I canβt believe I have to say this but donβt read the comments on the video I liked. Apparently James Woods of all people made some anti trans comments and linked the video at one time.. like WTF. Iβm not taking the link off because the video is funny and bigots shouldnβt ruin the fun.)

Edit after watching the whole thing: I was actually really impressed with what she managed to learn in 6 weeks! I know skating several times a week and her current athletic ability helped her out but even with that in consideration, she learned so much in 6 weeks. I hope she keeps skating!
The coach who appears in the video was suspended by the canadian fed because he exhibited predatory behaviour towards one of his 15 year old students. Allegedly he sent her some emails with very inappropriate contents. After that, he moved to the United States, who allowed him to keep practicing as a coach despite the allegations. He's a fervent Coughlin supporter, obviously and a Kavanaugh sympathizer as well. I don't think it's right to support this video, at all.
I've been waiting for this video to be released since it finished filming in the summer (apparently there was a lot of editing to be done since there was more footage then other episodes).
I'm glad she took the challenge and succeeded. Really shows the struggle with the sport and how much outside help is needed. However, it shows that it is possible to improve and start late. The ballet video really helped since she's got good habits in eating and already been working on flexibility.
I do like the fact they didn't hide the pain, falls, and frustrations that come with the sport.
first she did ballet, glad she's now trying figure skating :)
This is so cool!!!! She really learned a lot in 8 weeks too. And it already has 100k views in like 5 hours, wow.
I'm guessing Lloyd has more time on his hands to be able to commit to the project π
I'm watching this now. She's really good, but it's breaking my heart the way she talks about being too old. If she doesn't mention it by the end I'm just going to spam "ADULT SKATING IS GREAT" in the comments.
Since its already lost in the sea of youtube comments, this is what I posted:
"You definitely have an athletic or ballet or skating background, most ordinary people will not make that much progress in only 8 weeks. I'm also wondering just how many hours per day you trained for those 8 weeks.Someone doing 30-40 hours a week will improve much faster than someone only training 10 hours a week."
I did watch her ballet video, but I think that is "easier" to pick up certain things quicker because it's not the same as trying to balance on a blade on ice. AKA she wasn't doing pointe work, AND they had her dancing with an experienced partner in the ballet video, which will always make a beginner look better than they are.
In both videos, a lot of it is smoke and mirrors. They focused only on the elements they were going to put in her program. In an actual scenario, you would have far more to learn before they let you do all of the things she did. Obvious example: all of the spins, jumps, MIF, etc you learn before you even start attempting a flip jump. If all you work on is flip jump, then yeah, you can have a super-awful flip jump and nothing else, just like she did.
But it's still very clear she's already very fit and has good body awareness to pick up even an awful flip jump in only 8 weeks. That is not a normal result for ordinary people.
So I don't know how I feel about her videos. On the one hand, she may encourage a ton of people to start skating or dancing and that's great. On the other hand, it's still not a very truthful representation of just how slow progress is for most people. She makes it look easier than it is.... because she's "cheating" by skipping everything else and only working on what she needs for her video.
