[Music] hi everyone welcome back today is a little bit more of a serious video and i mean like a little bit like really lightly it's just a little bit more serious because it's getting down to crunch time of me getting married and i don't have a wedding dress yet so it's kind of important that i sew one and finish one before i get married be really awkward i showed up on the day and i didn't have a wedding dress so i think we can make a wedding dress in one or two days so let's see how that goes i got some fabric benson is laying on you gotta get off i got all of this fabric from the thrift store and i'm gonna try to cut it and sew it nicely together to make a pretty wedding dress at least that's the goal i have good positivity going into this that i'm gonna create a sick dress a jenna dress and hopefully it's appropriate for a wedding day so for my sketch of the dress here it is here's a sketch of the dress that i'm going to be making today i don't know if it's going to turn out like this obviously this is the goal i want it to be somewhat similar to this it usually changes a little bit once i start drafting the pattern on my mannequin i want to start with the bottom or the top okay i decided we're gonna start with the top so first step first step is i need to make a pattern so what i'm doing is i have this skinny electrical tape that i got off amazon for a stellar deal and i am taping it to my dress form and i'm pretty much just sketching out my sketch with tape until i got it pretty much looking like my sketch i got all the seams in there and then once i had this i was pretty much good to go to make my pattern so next step is we need to make the pattern pieces now so i just have this fabric right here and we're just going to cut some shapes so it fits in all these puzzle pieces that i just napped out so i don't really know how to explain this you know because i didn't really go to fashion school but i'm going to explain this in a simple form so what i'm doing here is i'm taking fabric i'm putting it on my mannequin and then i'm tracing the black tape lines that i already made and that's how i got my pattern piece the bodice is finally very roughly drafted now so now i'm going to transfer these to a pattern so now we're going to officially make the pattern piece so what i did was i took this really fun tracing tool again from amazon and i traced over those fabric pieces that i made onto this cheap i think it's shipping supply paper i don't know i got a lot of paper for like really cheap so if you're looking for big paper get shipping supply paper and then you can also use it for your shipping if you do ship but anyways um i traced it onto there and then i traced it onto fabric and then i cut it out tada that that's all i had to say for those who ask where my sewing machine is it's under here it's always so hard to get out though and it's also like 100 pounds my next step is i want to just sew together a draft of the top first just to make sure that it fits all correctly especially on me because my mannequin has bigger boobs than me what a surprise i'm just going to sew this together quickly just because i'll show you actually how i put together the real dress this is just a sample right now so bye fits perfectly this fits pretty good the boobs are just a tiny bit big but i could always add a little bit of padding to you know make it work so i'm i'm not i'm not i'm not gonna complain i make my boobs a little bigger my wedding day but other than that i think it looks good so i'm going to go forth with this pattern and i'm actually going to just start on the actual dress because i want to see how fast i can make this i think i can make it pretty fast so we're just going to move on to the other fabric which i'm a little nervous because this obviously is a really easy fabric to work with and i'm not sure how the other fabric is going to be my absolute favorite thing about this fabric is that it does not wrinkle you know how convenient that is with the dress i do not want to be steaming my dress or you know when you sit down and then you get up and then you have wrinkles over everything you know you dress i hate that and i hate ironing so this fabric is actually going to be perfect like this is straight out of the dryer and there is no wrinkles and it sat in the dryer overnight and you can i just didn't take care of this fabric and look how beautiful it is okay but next i'm gonna cut out some pieces and yeah i'm gonna cut out some fabric now so our first pro tip of this video or more like unprofessional pro tip um this is the first one if you don't have the weights that the professional designers have or you're too lazy like me and you don't want to pin down your pattern every time just use some candle holders they work well for me but next i am actually sewing my wedding dress yep i didn't even make a draft like the professionals do nope i jumped right into my fabric and i started sewing my wedding dress and it looked a little funky at first i gotta admit it looked a little funky my wedding dress is starting to look like lingerie now that wasn't really my intentions either i have the top close to being looking like a top yeah like i have a top bodice kinda i have the front of it and then i have this liner here but i realize um i forgot to cut out another liner because otherwise my dress is going to look like this inside and we we don't want it looking like that inside so i need to cut another liner sew it together and then i also i also need to go to the fabric store because i'm realizing now this definitely needs some interfacing to make it a bit more stiffer so i am going to cut out another bodice piece with my liner and then i'm gonna switch it out for this one and i'm gonna put some interfacing on that so the dress should be a little stiffer and if it's not then we're just gonna add some boning and then we'll do what's next bits and that's not a bed that's gonna be my wedding dress i'm definitely not gonna have enough for the skirt now so off i went to the fabric store because i didn't think the thrift store would have my fabric and i was like hey most of the fabric is thrifted i can splurge a little bit on the liner so i went to fabricant and just just because um it's way cheaper there too so here we are so i found a liner here it's only 3.98 and it looks like it's pretty similar color it's like an eggshell just like an ivory color so i'm gonna get a few yards of this for the liner of the dress and i think it's gonna match pretty perfectly because this is it next to white and you can see that it's more like an off-white so immediately when i got home i went ahead and i sewed one more liner of the top bodice except this one had the cotton interfacing that i purchased and it looks a lot better that looks so much nicer with interfacing like it actually looks like a boob i just finished sewing the liner here with the interfacing and i just put them together i just pinned it together really quickly but it looks so good doesn't this top look so cute i am very impressed with it i still have to sew them together so the next step is i'm just going to sew this top thin fabric to to this one here and then i have my liner piece here but um that's the last step because i also do have to attach the straps which i need to make first so i'm going to sew this together i'm going to sew this together and then i'll worry about the straps after so now i'm going to make some thin straps which i absolutely hate doing because they are so tricky to turn right side out but the first thing i did was i cut some long pieces of fabric and i usually like to fold the fabric a few times so i can just kind of cut it straight and then i take it i fold it in half and make a long hot dog until it looks like this the straps and then once i have it looking like that i take my strap turner even though it doesn't really work or i just can never get the trick it just takes forever and yeah i hate turning straps like usually make them pretty thin so it's very difficult to kind of you know turn them right side out if you have a good method for turning straps right side out leave me a comment because every single time i try to turn a strap right side out i struggle and waste a lot of time it took me 20 minutes for one strap and i'm not even exaggerating i finally got one strap turned right side out and it took me like 20 minutes to do i have the strap turner here but for some reason even with this i still struggle majorly and before anyone leaves a comment saying just google it jenna to learn how to turn strap right side out trust me i have i watched half hour of videos of how to do it and it did not help that legit took me over an hour to flip both of those straps i never want to turn another freaking strap inside out or right side out ever again anyways now i can actually start to sew the whole top together so i'm gonna cut little pieces off the strap because they're pretty long and i need little loops so i can have a little swish back thing on the back so i'm gonna cut for them that look like this off the straps and make sure they're still even we're ready to start sewing this bodice together finally it's like 9 30 at night i've been doing this all day it's gonna be worth it it's gonna be worth it we're almost done the top okay and in order to finish the bodice we have to sew the liner and the front of the bodice together before i did that i sewed on those little strappy things that i cut from the straps and i'm sewing them onto the sides so my straps can loop through them and i'm just sewing them like so to the front of the dress just to keep them in place before i sew the liner together but once i was done that i put right sides together of the liner and the front of the bodice and i also tucked the straps in there and then i sewed all the way around i did the side and the top so the two sides and the top and i left the bottom not sewed because we need to flip it right side out after and then the next step was to trim it a little bit just because the seam is quite big and we don't want it bunching up at the top of this bodice of course it's not a corset the top bodice part and then i also put all these little snip snips on any curved portion in order to keep it from bunching up and wrinkling up at the top of the top okay next day good morning i am up bright and early it's 8 30 in the morning and i am just pumped hump for today last night i stayed up late i stayed up to 10 30 so it's not really that late and i finished the top i'm so happy i'm so happy i did it this is the hardest part the skirt should be a lot easier she's beautiful before we start today i just realized i haven't washed my face i haven't brushed my teeth i literally haven't done anything i just got really excited so i'm gonna go get ready and then we can work on that that's as good as we're gonna get today after about 30 minutes of watching youtube videos and looking at random blog websites and getting spammed by them i'm gonna come to the conclusion i'm just gonna try to drape it i feel so bad for doing this but i need my fabric now i'm sorry baby you need to lay right here so for some draping this part is actually really fun just because you get to really make the dress and you get to see what it actually looks like so for draping i just have this on the bias tier 45 degree angle so it blows nice and flowy and then i just cut it at the bottom for the length and then i just kept taking a whole bunch of pieces and kept doing it around my mannequin until i got it looking like i wanted it instead of doing you know it for both sides what i did after i cut out the side here i took that piece and i just cut it out another piece of this on my fabric so i didn't have to redrape it because both side hips are the same so i did that but the front and the back are different so for the booty part and i say booty because my mannequin has a pretty good booty but other than my mannequin having a good booty i wanted a really nice train for the back of my dress because when else are you ever gonna wear a train definitely not to the grocery store that'd be kind of inconvenient so i'm just realizing now uh i did not get enough fabric for the liner i got three yards and i definitely needed at least probably six so i think we're gonna have to take a trip to the fabric store soon again but anyways i am just gonna cut out as much as i can with this one and then we'll go to the fabric store okay let's ditch this popsicle stand let's go to the fabric store we are here found my fabric i just got it cut and ended up getting like six yards just because i i do not want to go short and have to come back so before i cut all my liner pieces i did want to mention that you guys are making your own dress your own prom dress or any type of dress and you want it to be nice and flowy like you saw on my mannequin when i was draping it i was draping it on the bias so the 45 degree angle of the fabric this is how the fabric comes and then this is how it hangs on the bias cut your fabric on the bias if you want it to look nice and pretty you'll thank me later but for now i'm just gonna cut out the last two pieces with this big chunk of fabric i just bought so after i was done cutting it out i cut out that clip because no one wants to see me cut fabric like that's kind of boring like it's so much more entertaining to watch me sew the pieces together right so you guys can watch me soak the pieces together i'm just sewing them side by side i'm not sewing the top yet and then something bad happened i always thought that if i got injured from my sun machine it would be that i put a needle through my finger but no my sewing machine smoked me in the head so i have my skirts here but i need to gather them because they're too big so when i'm doing this basting stitch i am just stitching not doing a back stitch and just stitching the whole way through no back stitches and then we're gonna pull the string and then it's gonna make it nice and gathered well that was that was a great explanation jenna wasn't it um you guys probably didn't even know what i was saying there but i'm doing a basting stitch which is pretty much just a stitch you start from one end to the other and you don't do any back stitches and you also do it with a really wide stitch length so i did it at a four stitch length and i did that for each piece and then i also had a little bit of thread hanging off on each side so i could pull them and then it would gather the fabric in between and then you can also adjust it to what kind of gather you want if you want it super gathered or just get a little bit and you can see i'm playing around with it right here and then i went ahead and i just put it on my mannequin and got what i wanted gathered i just played around with it until i had a nice skirt okay i just had to show you guys what it looks like with the layover top it looks so pretty the two layers and then you can see there's a there's a long train but um it's long still but that's the last thing when i hem it but oh it's looking so good and then once i got my desired gather i went ahead and i just stitched it with the normal stitch i think it's like two lengths if you're if you're curious if you want to know the nitty gritty i stitched it down with a two stitch length and i did that for both the liner and the top line not liner and top lace of the dress i don't know the top fabric of the dress i did that for both pieces and then once i had them both done i went ahead and i sewed them together with right sides together so i was able to flip them you know right side out and you wouldn't see the seam and it was just kind of like invisible i don't i don't know that's really a trick it's just you always sew right sides together when you're sewing so you hide the seam so now that i have the skirt all done i have the liner and then the top together i need to figure out how to attach it to my top now which is quite tricky because i wanted an open back that does not connect to the bottom of the dress i think the only way it's going to work is if i tuck the skirt into the top here and then do a top stitch all the way around to the sides and then open up the sides here so it can go out the sides a little bit yeah and then attach a zipper right i was i was kind of close on the explanation but let me tell you how i actually did it so the first thing i did was i took my top bodice and i took the front of the top bodice so i did not include the liner and i pinned that to the bottom of the skirt right sides together like this the next thing i did was i did a straight stitch along the top there and i kept it pretty close to the top i usually do about a one quarter seam allowance so i just did that with a back stitch then once i was done that i took it to my iron and i sewed i didn't sew i ironed the seam upright towards the top of the dress and then i folded the top liner over top of it so it would hide the seam and then i went to my sewing machine and i did a top stitch to finish it off so there's that top stitch i was talking about i wasn't crazy i just missed a step before okay oh my goodness i am so so excited we have a dress that is incomplete but it's getting close this is the dress so far i want to show you guys the liner because i am so proud and impressed with myself look at the inside of the dress this looks so professional there is no seams there is nothing that you can see it just looks it looks amazing so i'm pumped i'm so pumped i'm like just so happy with the inside here's the outside this is probably what you guys care about but this is what it's looking like so far this is what my dress looks like so far but it's not not done yet we have to put a zipper in next and then close it and then hem it which is honestly the worst part because it takes forever and it's just really boring but next we are going to put a zipper in yay i just got a little excited i tried on the dress it fits great and i'm ready to finally sew the zipper but no one really wants to see me so zipper so how about we just skip to what the dress looks like i think that'd be more fun okay so the dress is behind me now it's on my mannequin there and i'm going to show you guys the dress but i'm not going to show you it on me just because i kind of want to save that surprise for my wedding and show you guys all my wedding photos and video in the summertime so i'm gonna wait until i show you guys it on me but i am gonna show you guys the actual dress and i just gotta say i love it i'm so proud of it i'm definitely gonna be wearing it on my wedding day this summer which i was really hoping to say to the end of the video that it was gonna be my wedding dress and it is i'm so excited so here i'll give you guys a full tour now here is my wedding dress i love it i am blown away by it i honestly am just speechless that i even made this this is way way way better than i thought it would turn out i am just i you can tell i'm just speechless like look at this look at this dress and it's mine but i haven't showed you the best part yet look at the back of the dress here i love the back of the dress oh my goodness my favorite part i think about the back of the dress is this low kind of back here i wasn't even anticipating doing a low back like that but it just kind of worked out i was just putting it on my mannequin and it was a little loose and i was like i really love that so i went with it and just kept it and i just think it works so perfectly with the kind of strappy back here and then of course as we go down we have the big train or the little train it's not crazy big but it's a you know decent train also it's very kind of rough edges just because i want to buy my shoes first before i go ahead and hem the dress i want to make sure it's the perfect length so i'm waiting to do that last but everything else with the dress is completely done like look at that look at that top everything about it i don't know what else to say i am just so happy and i can't believe i did this in two days what the heck i made my wedding dress in two days okay well that's it next time you see it it will be on me in the summertime anyways that is it for today's video i hope you guys enjoyed me creating my wedding dress which is so surreal to say that i actually made my wedding dress which
