I Found a $1 Bill Worth $150,000...Sort of.

do not turn off this video this is not clickbait there is no catch whatsoever but there is a potential for you to find a dollar bill worth upwards of a hundred thousand dollars hiding in your wallet i'm gonna show you what to look for [Music] hell everybody silver picker here and welcome to the silver picker squad now today's video is a doozy and i am not exaggerating when i tell you that this video this project that i'm about to tell you about is literally the most insane coolest numismatic project that i have ever been a part of in my entire life let's start here this is a one dollar bill from 2013. on its own it's worth literally one dollar however if i get one other specific banknote another one dollar bill it would make the pair worth between 50 and 150 000 or more now i know what you guys must be saying to yourselves this guy is insane how could a dollar bill be worth one dollar on its own and then you take a second dollar bill and put it right next to it and all of a sudden it's worth more than 50 ounces of gold more than 4 000 ounces of silver or more than a freaking tesla model s well let me tell you most collectible banknotes are valuable because they're either rare or even unique the irony of this situation is that this bill might be worth 150 thousand dollars because it's not unique in the united states and well in pretty much every country around the world every single banknote printed has a unique serial number on it to identify it as a single bill unique from the rest and that number can never be reprinted on another bill you may remember that little factoid from a video i did on star notes which you can see right over here in that video i explained that when a bill is damaged during the production process not even the replacement note can have the same serial number as the damaged and destroyed bill and instead they print a serial number with a little star at the end of it well the irony of the whole situation is that not only was there a scenario where serial numbers were indeed duplicated but they were actually duplicated on star notes and i have one such example right here so i'm guessing you've started to figure out what's going on here there are bank notes floating around out there with matching serial numbers alone they're worth a buck but together they are worth an absolute fortune now in the rest of this video i'm gonna explain how on earth this actually came about how you can identify the particular bills and how you can find its potential match now as you can imagine finding matching banknotes out of the literally billions of one dollar bills floating around the world right now is a monumental task and i want to help blow this project up and really kick start it and the way that you guys can help is by making can hit the subscribe button that won't help the project out that one's just for me so how did something like this actually end up happening well back in november of 2014 the bureau of engraving and printing sent a request to its washington dc printing facility to print 6.4 million star notes now that's a normal request it happens all the time and they printed the notes and put them out into circulation most stories about banknote printing ends there but not our story fast forward to july of 2016 due to a clerical error the bureau of engraving and printing sent a request this time to its fort worth facility and had them print the exact same banknotes the error was not caught in time and the banknotes were put out into circulation and that's how we ended up with two sets of banknotes with the same exact serial numbers now given that the bureau of engraving and printing technically just counterfeited 6.4 million one dollar bills they weren't exactly forthcoming with the information about their error that is of course until one banknote collector a very sharp guy was perusing some of the bep's public documents and noticed an anomaly he ended up using the freedom of information act to file a request with the government to get more details on this particular error and guess what the government fessed up and admitted to it and that's how we know that these bills are indeed legit and were indeed printed by the bureau of engraving and printing so what this means is that there are 6.4 million pairs or 12.8 million bills floating around for us to find now that may sound like a lot but given that there are actually 11.7 billion one dollar bills out there in circulation right now that means that the bills that we're talking about only account for one tenth of one percent of all the bills out there in existence but in any case i'm gonna tell you exactly how you can identify the bills that we're talking about and i'll even show you a sneak peek of what some of the currently matched pairs look like there are just three things you need to look out for one is the series date two is the federal reserve seal and three is the serial number itself so the specific bills that we're looking for are series 2013 new york federal reserve notes that means that the seal over here has a big b in it and we're looking for notes between the serial numbers b 1 to b 250 000 and then also b 3.2 million and 1 to be 9.6 million so again we're just talking about one dollar bills not fives not tens nothing just one dollar bills from series 2013 with that big old b right over here from new york between the serial numbers that i have printed on the screen now you're gonna want to save this video to your favorites or bookmark the video so that you can come back to it when you're searching through your banknote collection as you can see identifying these banknotes is exceedingly easy so if you have a collection of star notes at home it's time to crack open that album and go through them that's what i did and just by chance i found one i actually found one this one that i'm holding right now so let's say you're like me and you actually found one you had one hiding in your collection or you had one hiding in your wallet and now you've got one you're smart enough to know that you're not just going to stumble over its pair in the wild that would be absurd right so how do you actually find the match well that's where the zegger's winograd project comes in now i want to say a huge huge thank you to one of my patrons who goes by the handle of snoopy doo for introducing me to this entire project in this entire world of numismatics so thank you so much and in the comments below thank him as well because without him you wouldn't be seeing this video right now essentially a gentleman by the name of ed zegers and carol weinergrad along with several other volunteers maintain a comprehensive list of every single banknote that has been identified that fall within the serial numbers that comprise this project and they also note who owns the bill and where it's located this way if you have one of these banknotes you can submit the serial number to them and if it's on the list they will match you up and actually facilitate a buy seller trade to make those bills end up in the hands of one owner and of course if your bill is not already on the list they'll add it to the list so that when somebody does identify its match they'll be able to connect you and facilitate that same sale and you may end up with both bills in your collection now what's really unfortunate is that most banknote collectors don't even know that this project exists and unfortunately there's only about 11 000 banknotes that have been added to the list so far and that's why this video is so important if all of you watching go through your banknote collection or look at your change and actually find a bunch of these we could end up submitting thousands more bank notes to this list and creating more pairs to date only nine pairs have actually been successfully matched and because it is so exceedingly rare not a single one of the collectors who owns those pairs has been willing to sell them so not a single sale has actually happened but experts estimate that these pairs if matched and graded would sell for between twenty thousand and a hundred and fifty thousand dollars but hey if you found the pair of b00001 you may be looking at a one million dollar sale no joke that's why it's so important to blow this video up and get people out there looking for these banknotes so like this video share it on social media and blow up the comments section to get this video out into the world so how do you get in on the action well it's easy as pie first you're gonna search through all your banknotes you're gonna check your collection you're gonna check your wallet you're gonna check the change you get you're gonna check every single bill that comes through your fill out with all the information necessary to add your bill to the list and to see if you already have a match or put yourself in a position so that when somebody else finds the matching bill you can get in contact with them and end up facilitating a buy seller trade in one direction or another where you can end up standing to make a ton of money or own one of the most unique and rare pieces of numismatic items in history now remember these bills were printed in 2014 and 2016 and the average lifespan of a one dollar bill is only 5.8 years so these bills while already exceedingly rare are going to get rarer and rarer by the day time is running out on this project so it's time to get searching start looking through your wallet start looking through your collection i told you nine pairs I literally just got a 2013 star note today. Pretty low serial too but not in the best of condition. I’ll have to check this later. I watched this video before but I honestly forgot about it!

Edit: I don’t think mine is in the duplicate run, but I did discover my bill is still from a fairly rare print run! B00112532*

I guess it was from a low print run of only 250,000 when modern reprints are usually within a run of 640,000. Cool!
