Mark Rober just passed 50 million subscribers while dangling over a bridge that's crazy but if he's anything like these guys YouTube might not give him a 50 million play button I'm a 3D artist so I decided to design him one myself that ended up being the most overthought feature dense play button I think anyone has ever designed and it all starts with squirrels the best play buttons are highly personal in my opinion so I started by mapping out anything and everything that could be even slightly relevant to his channel his weird obsession with squirrels his TED Talks I know what I'm talking about I watched all the interviews I'm hearing his music in my head while I'm trying to fall asleep I even played his Roblox game where you build Rockets out of mud and sell Moon crystals to forest animals if this isn't sheer commitment I don't know what is out of all this iconography the obvious focal point is the logo but compared to other logos it's not as obvious how to make a full structure with this one in particular look at Mr Beast logo boom make it 3D anyway you can imagine it looks great I'm no engineer but we're talking about a guy who spent 7 years putting a Rover on Mars that's longer than my core audience has been alive so I don't think he's going to be impressed if we just super glue his logo to a cube if YouTube does make Mark Rober a play button it would probably be comparable comparable comparable comparable to one of the play buttons YouTube already made the only real requirement for these play buttons is that there's a logo and a base so I guess the squirrels are going to have to wait while I figure out how to make can you guys calm down thank you I tried this three-sided 3D version to give it a more unique shape maybe the M could be floating in the middle somehow actually I changed my mind it's way better if it has four set sides actually I ended up trying 12 separate variations and combining them with a bunch of Base variations just kind of hoping one of them's going to jump out and really speak to me so the voices won't have to anymore most of them still feature the logo front and center don't ask about the light bulb it was worth trying okay I I'll stand by that but in a tragic Twist of events the one I like the most ended up just being the original logo with slightly varied thickness for such a small change it makes a huge difference however to say it's good enough would be a fatal mistake the first thing you realize about Mark Rober not to be presumptuous but he's kind of a science fan like if he turned evil the world would be in shambles glitter bomb 7.0 now with a durable titanium frame and Greek fire so maybe the play button could be impressive not from the complexity of the design but from how the design actually works it's pretty simple actually there's more of them I was researching Popular Science decor items Tesla coils ferrofluid uh whatever this thing is thinking maybe there's a gimmick or science concept that I could incorporate into the design itself there's got to be some way for this bird to be useful any second now looking at the design of the logo there is one concept that I think we could use perfectly here and that of course is Tegrity for those uninformed tensegrity is a structural principle based on a system of isolated components under compression which are arranged from this is why Mark makes the science videos and I watch them it's honestly not that complicated though basically you combine stretchy parts and solid parts to add stability to a structure simple enough I ended up with three pieces the top the bottom and the M now the smart thing to do would be to drive 10 minutes to the store and actually build this thing on a popsicle sticks and fishing line but who needs real world physics when you have blender physics which is famous for its accuracy and ease of use notice how accurately the Apple collides with the floor yeah so what it didn't work on the first try but I eventually got are you serious eventually got a system down and I can definitely use this to validate my own structures for some weird reason there's more to it than just scking things together with strings but I ended up locking down pretty good stability with a total of seven connective pieces and that's good enough for me but I realized if I'm going to impress someone who at this point may as well have invented tensity I needed something more I didn't need a gimmick what I needed was more gimmicks and just as luck would have it as I was researching I came across something called an infinity mirror and well I'd say this pretty much changed everything none of this would be possible without blender but there's definitely a learning Cliff curve they've got more nodes now than there are games on the PS5 like a 100 times more honestly it'd be pretty overwhelming but thankfully this video is partnered with skillshare the biggest online learning community where you've got industry experts teaching thousands of classes on just about any topic you can imagine a lot of my favorite projects were actually based on things I learned on skillshare in fact I actually taught classes on skillshare before I even made YouTube videos let's face it eventually you're going to want to animate something so let's do that right now sure I sound a bit depressed but that's only cuz I didn't learn how to use audio effects yet which you can also thank skillshare for by the way you can take take a lot of classes in a few hours or follow the new learning paths to get more out of a specific skill they've got music game development pixel art I don't need to take that one my pixel art is just fine whatever you want to learn this summer skillshare does it all the first 500 people to use my link in the description will receive a 1 month free trial of skillshare to start exploring your creativity today but that's enough of that let's get back to the video so the play button coming along nicely but if there's one thing that will make or break it it's the materials Society Awards is the company that makes YouTube play buttons and in terms of materials let's just say they get a little oh no but the play buttons themselves are usually metal or some kind of resin for my design I tested out a few starter options aluminum gold missing asset it would probably be helpful if I spent more than 10 seconds on these connection pieces so I did a bunch of vertex surgery and even added these pockets in the middle just to make the shape a bit more obvious it seems like a small thing but the biggest issue here is actually these sharp Corners besides Lego pieces nothing in real life is perfectly sharp like this so it makes it look really unrealistic unfortunately this model is made of spaghetti geometry that was generated from stupid curves so it might not bevel perfectly on the first try let's see yep I'm losing sleep tonight Mark why can't you just be normal oh thanks man if only there was like a node that just bevels it for you or something what oh hey it looks pretty good I started testing different material combinations maybe we can go half and half like this uh maybe the front part can be glowing crystallized titanium kind of looks like glitter I guess that's a cool reference for putting so much work into ability I sure did completely miss the fact that it's just floating there attached to nothing so I should probably do something about that normally this would be the part where I make some weird thing to fill the space like a chain or a optic nerve but what if the blank space was the interesting part I found something interesting while I was researching floating tensity stuff and that's actual floating stuff there's a specific type of display that uses magnetic fields to suspend an object in the air it's the same technology used in magb trains just at a smaller scale I'm oversimplifying it a lot but you can use this to make floating plants floating shoes floating play buttons I slotted in a magnet Puck at the bottom and assuming the center of gravity could be centered properly there shouldn't be any issues it's not like things go wrong that you don't expect but it does introduce a couple of problems for one you can't just levitate a $4,000 cube of tungsten as I would be inclined to do for most levitating modules of this size you're working with less than 2 lb a loaf of bread a smartphone a banana no so far the logo pieces measure out at 20 C in in volume which is a little less than 2 lb of aluminum technically this would work but there's also ways to make it lighter you could reduce the volume by carving out the middle parts or you could use a lighter material and electroplate it wood plastic foam make it out of Cheeto dust with enough copper paint anything's possible don't get me wrong the levitation does add to the evil scientist Vibe but it does leave us with one specific blind spot this is supposed to be the world's most complicated play button so what is this paper weight looking Bas even doing here sure usually it does end up being a cube or a cylinder or a record player but I've got one more idea I want to try before I just give up like that Infinity mirrors I've seen them around before but you would not believe how many different types there are these days they've got Infinity cubes Infinity costumes right now you can go buy a $6,000 Infinity Tesseract with custom RGB gamer lighting it looks extremely complicated but the concept behind it is actually pretty simple basically you've got two mirrors but one of them is a oneway mirror the same kind they have in interrogation rooms we can simulate this and blender by choosing the number of light bounces and that indirectly controls how far the effect will go we can even see what it would look like inside of an infinity mirror or maybe if the walls were also mirrors or if the mirrors were also meor so what happens if we put an infinity mirror on top of the base this is so much better than the squirrels the best part is it's simple enough that it only takes a tiny portion of the space so with the right materials it shouldn't affect the levitation at least in theory it'll probably break everything in reality with that I slapped the congratulations on the front and cooked up a box real quick with some foam cutouts for the different pieces that's it for me couldn't be happier with the design personally if you're a fan of marks I hope you agree and without further Ado this is Mark Rover's custom 50 million play [Music] button see yeah squirrels are just just they're just kind of ugly glad we didn't end up using one for the I'd like to apologize for my previous statement [Music]
