know it's really bad wow my my career might be over can't you can't you glue it together well I tried that but it's it's past the point of saving you know what I mean you know it's like hair though it'll grow back no dad that's not the point let's call my sister Wow sister I have some really bad news what are you ready are you sitting down yes okay good I broke my nail I don't care I tried to see for weeks now it's not happening so I just feel like I have to accept it so it's really tough time for me I was hoping you could lend some support I just want to know that you're there for me how did you break it that's none of your business that is none of your concern I just want your emotional support I'm gonna have to trim all my nails down to about your length so it's gonna be pretty my nail oh I know like I don't really know what to do at this point I thought I could save it but I can't well once you cut all your nails you can actually start things like cooking or gardening so what I was asking for advice like what should I do how did you do that well um I don't really want to talk about it you know the point is I'm broken yes yeah anyway nose deadlifting wait wait how did today because I have friended I have some really bad news why are you smiling good okay you're both sitting down that's good I'm just gonna come out and say it I broke my nail oh I know right like it's I don't know what to do well I think last time you broke your nails you did I made a video yeah well it's a long story did you bend it back see it bent it like a month ago and then I tried to grow it out I tried to save it I did everything I could I put a bunch of glue on it so now I'm going to have to face the unfortunate reality of just trimming them all down so you yeah but I didn't want to address the reality of my situation so I put it off until today that's why today I'm telling you guys is my friend the bad news I'm sorry it's late are you now short now let me see there okay I keep my nails short now they looking pretty good you look good thank you I just wax my mustache specifically for this coal really appreciate you having friends like you guys during this time thank now let's zoom in and take a closer look here's what my nail looks like right now and there's a big chunk out of it and a mini here and at this point I've decided it's beyond repair it's on its last legs and it does need to be chopped down unfortunately now that the split has finally grown out past my fingertip but before we do that let's take a quick look back at how the heck this happened and what I did to get my nail from the unspeakable incident to today while still somewhat hanging on back in March yes March after quarantine had begun I was doing a home workout and normally I am very careful with my nails and I have never previously had an incident working out but on this day I guess I wasn't paying attention enough and no I did not smash my nails with a weight or anything I was doing what I thought was just a simple single leg RDL which means pulling a dumbbell up my leg as I hinge forward and my nail caught on to my pants and bent backwards at the time it looked like my nail didn't snap and only my pili did but it was really painful so at first I thought it was just a really bad nail Bend break a nail then upon closer investigation we determined that there was actually a side fracture in the nail bed lower than my fingertip and you know if this has happened to you that this part is painful to be honest it wasn't the working out at home that I blame or the working out in general it was the fact that I let my nails get so long in the first place I find personally I have a safe length or a nail length range in which I can do things safely and whenever I grow past that I always seem to be asking for a nail break so basically I am guilty of being reckless and irresponsible I know the truth is I was purposely growing them out longer than normal for a reason because of a new product demo that I'll share later so of course life just isn't going to be fair in 2020 and nothing is going to plan as I've shown in previous videos where I broke my nails my first piece of advice for breaks in the nail bed is to try and repair it with glue so you can throw it out without pain so I added a ton of nail glue which is essentially cosmetic grade superglue just be very careful with this stuff so you don't stick your fingers together then to try to minimize the risk of bending again I knew I had to partially file down my nails so they weren't so ridiculously long so I did that as a preventative measure for future destruction and gave myself a nice sponged on unicorn skin manicure to feel better about myself the glue held up between a couple of nail polish changes and I even managed to do another nail art in-between but then it got to a point about a month in where the glue had disintegrated and I had to keep adding more to hold it together it became more and more obvious that there was some kind of deformity going on in my nail because of all the glue and and not holding the brake on straight every time I showered or wet my nails it made the situation worse because what happens is water absorbs into your nails and expands them pushing the glue out and the break apart a little further and all that extra frequent hand-washing kind of did make it worse it looks like a mutation at this point okay I am x-men I ended up wearing the same nail polish for about three weeks just to grow it out but I had to shower before filming this video so I added a nice thick actually added tube Ness that coats a glossy taco just to temporarily protect the break from splitting apart while I showered I then took off my polish carefully so we could get a good look at today's situation don't mind my pink domestic goddess gloves that I'm wearing I just didn't want to ruin my lovely relaxing scratch art manicure on my other hand we had to be really careful with this polish remover because we didn't want it to snag on the broken part of the nail and you don't rip it further and the glue was tricky to get off because you know it was stuck this it's glue so I had to dunk my nail in acetone for a couple minutes to help dissolve it further after a bit of surgery there was a huge chunk of my nail missing holy crap II she is not in good shape she is not doing well she ain't throbbin a quick rehydration with nail oil please and okay then we are most certainly beyond repair in my professionally unprofessional opinion apart from the obvious giant chunk missing on one side there's also a split on the other side and it's just asking twofold right in the center if I do anything I just don't want to keep filling it up with glue and I'm not trying to patch it with acrylic build or gel at this point personally I like to keep things simple and for me this is a sign that it's just time to take that big step that I've been putting off for a month and filed down my name's Meredith we're gonna have to amputate it's the only option we have everyone wash your hands put your scrubs on let's go normally if you want to significantly reduce your nail length I would recommend filing only and not using these scary Clippers because Clippers may snap the nail further down than intended however filing this down was just too painful and it wasn't exactly effective with a weakened face of my nail so I brought out the Clippers and gently chopped off a part of me into pieces I am literally cutting off a part of myself oh my god there it is it's done that's what's left of 20/20 simply just sad stained little bits of nail I could leave my nails like this and call the short one and accent now what I'm trying to look for the good in this and my nails have been through some rough stuff lately so much watching and testing so you know what maybe it's not such a bad thing and I am gonna file all my nails down to the same length to even out my nails at my new length I'm using my glass nail file here for a more effective filing and cleaner edge [Music] and now we got to file down the other nails who did absolutely nothing to deserve this I'm sorry ladies it just it had to be done and while we're here alright that's enough of that I don't want everyone to click off the video but finish the deed on all the nails and here we are what it is to be young and fresh again and now it's time for a manicure to start feeling like the new me the new simply I wash my hands of all the dusties and I'm starting off with a coat of smoothing base because my nails are so uneven and ready right now from their recent life experiences so they need some extra help ah she looks a little better a little more refreshed like she'd been to the salon except they're all clothed so we did it at home now I'm going in for two coats of royalty blue as my base color [Music] and how about some Aurora unicorn skin yes and flaky hollow taco because I deserve it add a nice thick coat of glass of taco to seal it all in and you know what it doesn't look so bad it's not so bad it looks good if you're wondering how I'm gonna grow my nails now and what my secret is I do have a video with some great helpful tips on how to grow your nails on my channel i rewatch that video and all of my tips still apply today so I do encourage you to go watch that video for more but on a very high level in this video I'll just say that I will be doing lots of nail oiling and most importantly I am going to be more careful with my hands from now on especially when doing home workouts new nails who dis you know it feels kind of like a fresh start a fresh new simply the rest of 2020 is gonna be great right it is a strange feeling curling up my fingers and actually feeling my fingertips on my palm whereas before and just feel the nails dig into my skin and what's even weirder is that the nails on both of my hands are now the same length is this what it's like to be normal person if you see any pictures of my nails soon maybe in some rainbow swatches don't be surprised if my nails are short cuz I got work to do long or short nails it's still me please accept me maybe short nails will make me more relatable I don't know you know when I famously broke my nail several years ago I kind of had a sense of relief that fell over me because it was after that moment where I felt some freedom to make any kinds of videos that I wanted to and it wasn't just about making nail art videos in a weird way it gave me a license to start making different types of content and I wasn't just chained down to like you have to paint your nails now because I suffered a break and I couldn't paint my nails for some time but lately and an ironic twist of simply illogical I've been enjoying making more nail videos and I make all the hollow taco videos myself so whether they're or on this channel you may be seeing more of my nails and not club all right
