Hey everyone, I'm The Canadian
Lad and today I'm gonna jump the bandwagon and give you some details
from HBO's The Last of Us Episode 5. Now, this is not a complete breakdown,
for that, you go to my friend Paul's channel where he is doing an amazing
job breaking down the whole episode. But in this video, I'm gonna give you 5 details
that you probably haven't noticed and haven't been found by other creators either.
So, without any further ado, let's begin! Number 1: When Henry peaks through the glass
window and sees Joel shooting down some soldiers, there he almost makes eye-contact with Joel.
But there's one incredible detail in this scene and you're only gonna catch it
if you notice very very carefully. Do you see it?
Well, it's this orange reflection on Henry's eyes. Because just moments earlier, Henry had
painted an orange superhero mask around Sam’s eyes, turning his brother into Super Sam.
So the next scene having this orange reflection on Henry's face has to be intentional.
It now paints him as the superhero his brother thinks him to be.
And if you think about it, there's something very poetic about this as well.
While Henry made his brother a superhero, Fate made Henry a superhero!
I think the cinematographer for this episode aka Eben Bolter has done something
incredible with this very subtle hidden detail! Number 2: In the last episode Joel told
Elli that she's not family, she is cargo! But in this episode when Ellie was being chased by the infected, Joel literally had
a telepathic connection with Ellie. He looks at Ellie's eyes and knows immediately
that Ellie is gonna try to get inside this Van. And when this infected managed to get into
the van, notice how scared Joel got for Ellie! You don't do that for cargo,
you do that for family! He was perfectly safe in the building away from
all this chaos, but the expression on his face clearly says he now has the fear of losing Ellie!
And this brings back what Bill said to Frank in episode 3:
-CUT SCENE- "I was never afraid before you showed up"
So now Joel feels afraid now that he has Ellie. That's why he doesn't even sleep at
night and stays up watching the perimeter. Number 3: Before Joel and Henry teamed up,
Joel asked him "Why do you wanna help us?" And that's when Henry said this: So the deal was Henry will show
the way while Joel will clear it. Now if you think about it, Joel
did exactly that in this episode but not for Henry or Sam, but for Ellie!
He shot every infected that came in Ellie's way and cleared them! He didn't even attempt to
shoot down the infected attacking Henry or Sam! His entire focus was only on Ellie!
So this was a nice little foreshadowing there! Number 4: At this point, almost everyone one
of us choked up seeing this note that Ellie left at Sam's grave.
It says "I'm sorry". But what's more upsetting for me is that
Ellie got to say her goodbye but Henry didn't. They could've told Joel and Henry
that Sam was bitten and at least Henry could've made a thought out decision.
He could've talked to his brother one last time. But I of course understand why Ellie didn't do it, she thought in her innocent mind that
her blood would be enough to save Sam. But now that even Henry is dead, Ellie
would only have herself to blame for that. She will keep thinking about this and regret
that she couldn't save at least one of them. Number 5: After the group came out of the tunnel safely and made it to the residential
area, they got spotted by a sniper! Now notice they used the same sound
effect here from the video game! Number 6: And this is a bonus point
but I think it needs to be said. I'm seeing a lot of people who played
both parts of the game complain that there aren't many infected or clickers in the show.
Now I have one thing to say about this: The climax of this episode wouldn’t have had as much
weight if we had been getting them more often. And the fact that Henry was literally impressed
hearing that Ellie and Joel survived two clickers, goes to show that the infected are much more
dangerous in the show than they're in the game. In the game they appear more often
because the game isn't just the story, it has to let you interact and play in between. So far I'm absolutely loving this
show, especially everyone's acting! The way Pedro Pascal was shaking as he
held the rifle while shooting to protect Ellie was...was one of the best things for me!
And the fact every actor is doing an incredible job in their respective roles means the
directors, the showrunner and the writers know exactly what they're doing!
Overall, I'm just happy this show exists and can't wait to make myself
sad again watching the next episode! Lemme know which was your favorite detail out
of these 5 and of course comment down below if you think I should know about a detail you found.
