What're people's expectations from Windows 11?
Iโve used Windows since โ95, and while itโs not a โbadโ operating system in the way Vista or 8 were, I personally find Windows 10 to be the most boring and stale OS Iโve ever used.
Hard to pinpoint exactly why, but I really dislike using it as my main OS. I enjoyed using all of the other versions of Windows, even Vista. Probably in the minority, but I have fond memories from that Vista era.
Iโm ready for MS to move on from 10. This whole โthe last version of Windows everโ was always a stupid gimmick.
Is it me or UE5 dropping raytracing is pretty damn huge?
Not only does that cut a potential big chunk of future games from using RT, but it might also push other devs to look for similar solutions.
RT is supposedly easy to use and actually makes devs' lives easier but the issue is, right now and for the foreseeable future it's so demanding (and unusable on mainstream hardware like a 1060) that no studio will go for raytracing only because that would drastically cut the consumer base of the game. As such while adding RT is supposedly easier, using it still means they have to do both regular raster based lighting and RT. So more work in the end.
Using Lumen (and potential similar future lighting tech) on the other hand would replace the current lighting setup workload instead of adding to it.
i mean lumen does look pretty fucking great.
