hey i'm alec from matter hackers and this is heaviest Tinkercad when teachers and educators ask us what do I do with the 3d printer that I have in my classroom we usually recommend they use Tinkercad Tinkercad is a free and easy 3d modeling software that requires no prior modeling experience it's something that is anyone can pick up and immediately get to modeling it's also really nice to be able to print something that's a helpful visual or tactile aid like in this case we have these Braille fraction pieces or a Braille US map or this example of Native American home so this is just some different ways you can actually use Tinkercad and the 3d printer you have in your classroom now that you kind of have an idea of how to utilize it let's get into how to actually use Tinkercad start off by heading to Tinkercad calm in the upper right hand corner and click sign in or sign up I have an account so I'm gonna sign in once you're signed in click create new design [Music] this is your workspace and this is your work plane this is where you're gonna be doing all of your work it's essentially z0 or the build plate of your printer on the right here you have work plane or you can make additional work planes to base modeling off oh and the ruler to modify the shape size volume of your objects to create a box click move over into the work plane and click again to create it in the top left you have the copy tool click that and then click paste and you'll paste the same object slightly offset from the original you click duplicate you'll paste it directly on top of the same object there's also delete which will delete the selected object or objects and undo which will undo the last step in this case delete and redo to redo the last action or delete it again if we hide the object by clicking the little lightbulb on the menu it'll hide the object it's gone but if we click this lightbulb it'll bring all of the objects that are hidden back if you select multiple objects and then click group in the upper right you'll group them and be able to move and manipulate them together you can also group a single object and another group together and manipulate them all as well but then if you ungroup them it will sequentially ungroup them so the first box will be removed from the group if we go and select the two and under begin we will ungroup those separately as well [Music] you can also align two objects in this case by clicking this dot over here and then this over here it'll align those two faces the demonstration purposes I'm going to drag in this pyramid [Music] if we group together these two boxes in the pyramid and then go in upper right and click flip we can pick an access to flip along and by clicking there we've now flipped it and mirrored it along that axis on the left side you have the view queue so if you click front it will give you a front view of your objects or click that arrow you will get the right view click this arrow or this corner or this edge and you get different views of your objects or you can right click and move the right mouse around to get different angles there's also home view click this and it'll bring you back to the point between front and top view fit all in view will zoom in on all of the objects in your build area there's also zoom in and zoom out you can also use the scroll wheel to do that switch to orthographic view we'll change the angle so there's no perspective when you look here each of these lines are exactly the same length but if you were to switch to perspective they're all going to skewed towards a center focal point it depends on how you're trying to model things to get the right angle sometimes orthographic is better than perspective sometimes perspectives better than orthographic in this case will stay with perspective in the upper right you have basic shapes texts symbols connectors like ball and socket joints you have a lot of different tools to pick from but we're gonna stick with basic shapes let's create another box to show some other tools and a cylinder show off some various ones as well now if you click on the box you have these squares white squares will change to edges at once but lock the opposite corner in its place black squares drag edges the white square in the top face will pull the top face only and each arrow will rotate along certain axes if you click and hold and drag outside the circle you can rotate at one degree at a time but if you drag inside the circle you lock it every 22 and 1/2 degrees each shape has its own set of tools in this case the box is radius steps length width and height height change the height you can either use the slider or manually type it in you can modify the width you can modify the length and you can change the radius of how round the edges are [Music] if you put the steps at one you had a chamfer so instead of a rounded edge it is a sharp cut off of all the edges or you've raised the steps up it really smooths out the edges increasing the radius will increase how round the edges are as well the black arrow on the top face will change the Z height of your object so we can drag over the cylinder select the other red object and group them and now we have one solid object that's sort of key shape let's undo that to show some other tools with the cylinder you get some different options besides bevel segments the sides will chain how smooth the side of the cylinder it is and bevel will change how much the edge is rounded segments will make it really smooth bevel will make it really sharp [Music] if instead of solid you select hole it will cut out from other objects when you group them together by grouping them we now have a slight divot in the top of our original object you can also click the lock to lock editing I can't change the size I can't change where it is this object will stay right here without anything changing until I click that lock again let's create a box to show how the ruler works we add a ruler to the corner of the box it'll show us the height the width and the depth which you can also manually change by clicking on those numbers this is really handy when you want precise movements of your objects this will even work on objects that are irregular like this one [Music] now that we're done here we can export our model go on the top right and click export and you can either select just the shape that's selected or everything so this would be the original object and the box you can export as an STL for 3d printing an obj for additional 3d modeling or an SVG for laser cutting but we only need an STL right now now I don't like the name dazzling Bojo that's just what Tinkercad auto-generated so I'm gonna change that by clicking the name in the upper left I can delete that and I'm gonna change that to Tinkercad test now I can export it as an STL so now we're just gonna save it to the desktop click Save and there we go I've just created my first model to take your cat there you have it now you have an introductory understanding of Tinkercad and you're ready to use your 3d printer to its fullest capabilities by designing your own 3d models if you have any questions about Tinkercad feel free to leave a comment down below or go to mater hackers com I'm out for mana hackers thanks for watching thank you for watching if you
